With World's Toughest Mudder coming up soon and it being both the first time the event is taking place in Europe as well as Katelyn's first time tackling the event herself, we figured it would be a good time to both selflessly and selfishly have an episode focused on first timer questions! Josh Fiore had been answering first timer questions on the WTM First Timer facebook group so we figured that he would be a great guest due to him being knowledgeable and has shown to take time out of his day to try to help those who are preparing to take on this ultra OCR! Josh shares his experinces and insights about training, race preparation, and how to stay positive during all 25.5 hours of World's Toughest Mudder! The primary focus of our discussion centers on the intriguing phenomenon of synesthesia and its relationship to musical perception and experience. We delve into how musicians often engage in a premeditated thought process prior to playing, which enhances their performance and confidence. Throughout the episode, we explore the interplay between various sensory experiences, particularly how colors are associated with different musical notes and scales, and how these associations can evolve over time. We also examine the potential effects of substances like psychedelics on synesthetic experiences, considering whether they might amplify or alter the perception of music. Ultimately, our conversation reveals the profound connections between music, perception, and the unique ways individuals experience and interpret sound.Takeaways: The act of playing music is significantly enhanced when one has a premeditated thought regarding the notes to be played, leading to a more confident performance. The perception of color associated with musical notes can vary based on personal experiences and the frequency with which one engages with particular musical scales. Substances such as alcohol or psychedelics may alter sensory perceptions, potentially amplifying experiences of synesthesia during musical performance. Stress and unfamiliar musical genres can diminish the vividness of synesthetic experiences, impacting one's ability to connect color and sound. The exploration of different musical styles can lead to unexpected sensory experiences, akin to tasting new and exotic cuisines for the first time. The relationship between food and music highlights the layering of flavors and sounds, suggesting a cultural interconnection that enriches both experiences.
Joining the Exchange are Dr. Jerron Jorgensen, Director of the Rogue Valley Chorale, and Maestro Murry Sidlin, Founder and President of The Defiant Requiem Foundation.

I have been wanting to do this for a while ... even though I'm not sure him or the others in The OCR Report believed me! It's Jack Goras, the guy behind the camera at pretty much every major OCR that has happened in Europe or North America in the past 5 or so years! We haven't had much time to talk in the past when covering events since we are usually busy doing interviews while he is taking pictures and editing. However we did get to hang out more at World's Toughest Mudder last year since it was a 24+ hour event, we shared a room at the air bnb, and he hung out at the bar crawl. This was my way of getting to know more about him, so now you can also get to know him! We talk about photography, his favorite places that he has been, how he ended up being the photographer for The OCR Report, some travel nightmares, how he is going back to Ukraine to help yet again, and much more! 0:00 – 3:25 – Intro 3:25 – 7:46 – Quick News 7:46 – 8:11 – Content Preface 8:11 - 1:02:15 - Jack Goras Interview 1:02:15 - End – Outro Next weekend we will hopefully have another athlete on to talk about OCRWC and Spartan's Short Course Championship in Croatia or a member of my local running club who ran every street in Boston! ____ News Stories: Logan Nagel Married Tough Mudder Course of Legos Deejay Fox Running for Tourette Syndrome Awareness Spartan Bear Fired Ally Tippetts Baby Hannibal Race Postponed Leon Skin Cancer Removed Spartan Dallas Ultra Podiums Spartan Dallas Beast Podiums Spartan Dallas Super Podiums Hair Kombat Secret Link Muscle Deception Secret Link Northeast Hiking Secret Link Suit Marathon Secret Link Water Dive Secret Link ____ Related Episodes: 359. On this episode of WSEG, we watch how the DNC attempts to divert attention away from their lack of policy and terrible track record of the last 3.5 years by toting out musical performances by John Legend, Lil Jon, Stevie Wonder, and many more stars. The Dems reduced themselves to lying about the appearance of Beyoncé to swindle more eyes on their unabashed hatred for Trump. It leaves one to question if the office of president harkens to the role of the UK's monarchy. Video Version: https://youtu.be/TQCpgZG9xUQ

The discussion highlights David Cameron's earlier attempts to position the Conservative Party as leaders in climate action, the feasibility of the UK's 2050 net zero emissions target, and Labour's policy proposals including GB Energy and potential carbon taxes. Featuring perspectives on regional economic disparities, business innovation, and public sentiment, the conversation includes reactions from our friends in Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Greens and climate activists to the exit polls. The Labour Party's strong performance sparks varied opinions on their environmental policies, the potential right-wing populist backlash, and Labour's capacity to meet climate promises. Additionally, the role of comedy in political discourse and anticipated shifts in climate policy under new governance are discussed, culminating in a musical guest performance.0:00 How Did David Cameron's Polar Pledges Pan Out-00:05 David Cameron's Green Vision00:42 Announcing Net Zero by 205001:55 Debating the Net Zero Target02:27 Conservative Party's Climate Stance03:11 Public and Personal Perspectives on Climate03:29 Controversies and Policy Shifts05:12 Technical Difficulties and Guest Introductions05:49 Election Day Insights06:02 Campaign Reflections and Future Policies07:12 Dissonance Between Narrative and Reality08:41 Climate Politics and Election Predictions24:10 Regional Impacts and Industrial Policy25:44 Northern Ireland's Climate Challenges29:27 Policy Consistency and Business Collaboration37:53 Carbon Markets and Regenerative Agriculture44:49 UK's Leadership in Carbon Policy46:04 Challenges for Startups in the UK48:28 Introducing Andy Williams from Penta Group49:35 Labour Party's Unity and Policy Challenges50:34 Labour's Approach to Industrial Action52:12 GB Energy and Labour's Economic Policies54:17 Rupert Reed's Election Predictions55:55 Labour's Tax Policies and Carbon Tax Discussion57:11 Climate Tech and Public Finance58:02 Exit Poll Results and Political Reactions01:06:18 Lib Dems' Environmental Policies01:09:27 Labour's Majority and Future Challenges01:21:59 International Perspectives on UK Elections01:23:05 European Climate Politics and Populism01:24:00 Challenges in Climate Policy Implementation01:26:28 The Role of Labour and Greens in Climate Action01:30:22 US Climate Policy and State-Level Initiatives01:33:26 Comedy and Climate Change01:35:00 Local Political Engagement and Progressive Alliances01:36:22 The Future of Climate Policy and Political Satire01:47:25 Closing Thoughts and Reflections01:53:08 Musical Performance by Sunsharmer Hosted on Acast. In the culminating fifth lecture of the Sophia Lecture series, Professor Douglas Hedley culminates his exploration by delving into play's theological dimension, engaging with Marsilio Ficino, Desiderius Erasmus, and Plotinus to dissect 'serious play', a pivotal concept in Renaissance thought. Throughout the lecture series, Hedley has traversed play's philosophical terrain, examining its roots, the vital role of language in human development, the journey into self-awareness, and the allure of aesthetics. In this lecture, he weaves together the interplay of wisdom and play within cultural narratives, delves into Plotinus' portrayal of the cosmos as a divine ballet, and highlights the synergy between divine ecstasy and human creativity. Additionally, he probes the impact of symbolic play in spiritual realms and underscores the critical role of femininity in the discourse on wisdom and play. Professor Hedley's contributions provide a rich, interconnected view of play as a gateway to a deeper understanding of our selves and the cosmos. Douglas Hedley is a Professor in the Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow at Clare College. His work spans the fields of philosophy, theology, and psychology, focusing on the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern thought. Afrocuba de Matanzas is widely considered one of the best preservers of Afro-Cuban folkloric music and dance on the island, but the group also created one of the funkiest and most exciting musical innovations in 1973 when they blended rumba percussion and batá drumming to create batarumba. Ryan Gruss “The Fantasty Football of Music Making” Ryan's journey in the music business began after graduating from The Berklee College of Music in 2000 with a degree in Musical Performance for Drums, and then moving to New York City to begin his "career" in the real world. It was during his second week at Atlantic when Ryan was approached by the HR department, asking if he was interested in becoming Ahmet Erteguns' (the legendary Founder and CEO of Atlantic) assistant. His mind was blown and he instantly accepted the position. In 2010, Ryan launched The Loop Loft and began recording other musicians and treating it like a record label, providing the artists with royalties from the sales of each loop pack. Word began to spread amongst the studio musician community, and a roster of legendary musicians like Omar Hakim, Joey Waronker, Matt Chamberlain began to form and quickly grow. For the next 8 years, Ryan continued to organically build The Loop Loft, adding more artists and content on a weekly basis. Partnerships with companies like Ableton, Native Instruments, BandLab and PreSonus were formed. Guitar Center also began to sell products from The Loop Loft. The company was now the top-selling source for loop and samples, generating millions of dollars of revenue each year. It was a career and a company that Ryan had never dreamed of or anticipated, but he had finally found his musical North Star. Ryan left Native Instruments in 2020 and formed Yurt Rock, literally inside of his Yurt studio in the hills of LA. But with the COVID pandemic grinding studio work to a halt, Ryan decided to take the time and move his family to Nashville, a place that many consider the music capital of the world. It was time for a fresh start. With dozens of the world's top musicians, Yurt Rock has quickly become the ultimate source for producers, engineers and songwriters seeking not only loops and samples, but also custom BATTERY/MASCHINE kits, Ableton Live Packs, Logic Sessions, multitracks and much more.
