Trek Untold: The Star Trek Podcast That Goes Beyond The Stars!

Michael Berryman has an unmistakable look that has served him well for decades in Hollywood. His one-of-a-kind face helped him land two gigs in the Star Trek universe, but his career is certainly one where you've seen the man plenty of times, and now you get to know his story. Berryman was a Starfleet communications officer in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," and then Captain Rixx in the first season "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode, "Conspiracy," where he played the first on-screen Bolian.  Michael tells us about his early days, being discovered in an antique store by George Pal, his first gig in "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze," stories from "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, and the connection to the original Star Trek series with makeup artist Fred Phillips. From there, we discuss his time in Trek, the unique prosthetics he wore for those parts, spending time with Michael Westmore, and much more in this expansive career spotlighting the humble beginnings and explosive trajectory of the career of Michael Berryman.  Please subscribe to our brand new YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@trekuntold . He talks about life in the military and the interesting story of co-founding his company. What started as him crashing a wedding became a networking opportunity to meet Brendan, his co-founder. He discusses the difficulty of transitioning from founder-led sales to training sales teams and his thoughts on cold calling as not dead but dying. Finally, Matt also shares how sales and marketing are now merging into one and how marketing should now “weaponize its front” in sales.HIGHLIGHTSFrom military intelligence to founding RevPartnersTraining sales teams is the biggest obstacleCrashing a wedding to meet his co-founderSales and marketing are merging into oneQUOTESMatt: "Cold calling is not dead. Cold calling is dying. And so, what I mean is this, it is that the behaviors of buyers is fundamentally changing. We're now moving to attention commodity where your time is your most valuable resource and it's been digitized so people are self-educating and they are ignoring emails."Matt: "If you gave me $500,000, how would I build a sales team? I wouldn't. I would build a really good content engine and then I would transition to a salesperson and then that salesperson, I would be hiring based on their ability to make unique content."Matt: "If you were genuine with people, in sales or in life, magic will happen. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Adversary Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 26 of Deep Space Nine: The Adversary. We've arrived at another season finale - somehow we made it through season 3! In this episode we spend a lot of time on the Defiant (which James appreciates) chasing after a villain who could be anybody (which Kim appreciates). It's The Thing meets X-Files! We also have guest star Lawrence Pressman returning in a different role and a bunch of crew members we've somehow never seen before (hello Jeff Austin as Bolian). The Adversary Even though we should all be expecting Founders to show up everywhere, we are still somehow surprised when they do. The good news in this episode is Sisko is finally promoted to captain. The bad news is a lot of NPCs are going down as another Founder sneaks his way into the story and causes havoc. Poor Odo...this is not his finest or happiest moment and we end this episode (and season) with some real drama. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Wire or Second Skin and check out the previous episode, Facets. Next time... Join us for the next episode our Season 3 Wrap Up! Trust. Who has it? Who wants it? And what's it worth to you anyway? These are the tough questions Star Trek tackles this week, while we goof off instead of paying attention!* Minh stumps Shawn in a round of "What Show Is Minh Talking About?" (See if you can guess! I put the answer at the end of the show notes.)* A Bolian, a Fangtooth, and the Sydney Opera House walk into a bar, and we FMK them, which gets weirdly contentious.* Erin teaches us a valuable lesson about hiding dead bodies (hint: don't tell the police where they CAN'T look)!* Fake Picard and Beverly kiss(!) which gives us all Last Starfighter vibes, and raises the question of how do you know your Picard is fake?* Minh tries to avoid playing Shove It In Minh's Mouthhole by changing the subject to possums, which of course works.* Matt makes an embarrassing ukulele confession.* And finally, we introduce a new, soon-to-be regular segment, Marathon Talk!(SPOILER FOR WHAT SHOW IS MINH TALKING ABOUT: The show Minh is talking about is Dollhouse.) Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 2 – Envoys We’re back with the second episode of Lower Decks, titled Envoys! Sorry for the lateness of this episode. Unfortunately, we had to record four days late, and I already had a full week. A strange energy sphere… The cold open was interesting, with an energy being strolling in and looking like the being from the TNG episode The Child, who Mariner manipulates to give them a new tricorder. It then seems to be absorbed by Captain Freeman, in a Tilly spore-like absorption. We’re both pretty sure that we will be seeing this entity again later this season. Boimler & Mariner escort a Klingon General… Boimler gets the assignment to escort General K’orin to Tulgana IV, only to find Mariner is also going. We see Mariner’s ease at handling every situation, while Boimler fails miserably. There’s a very funny scene that describes about 50 plots of Trek episodes, and then Mariner thinks a Ferengi is a Bolian, even with the over the top “Hu-mann” from TNG Season 1. It gives Boimler the confidence boost he needs, and we find out that she took one for the team. Rutherford’s career fair… The idea of Rutherford changing careers just so he can accompany Tendi to watch a pulsar seems more than a little far fetched, but it does bring us several funny scenes. The bridge simulation was especially laugh out loud funny, and I did enjoy the “Smorgasborg”. Medical was less interesting, but still interesting. Rutherford, with his cyborg talents, would make a great security officer, but he would rather hang out in a Jefferies tube. Engineering, through and through. He still reminds me a lot of LaForge. Captain Rixx is one of the best captains in Starfleet, and the first Bolian to command a starship. Which still isn't enough for the USS Thomas Paine to get any actual screen time. What's a New Orleans-class starship like? How far down does a Bolian's ridge go? Pacifica is the premiere destination for Federation conferences, but do transporter chief conferences have enough clout to get time there, or do they get shunted to the Mariott's on Vulcan? When the USS Hood has to deal with an alien conspiracy, will Longo's skant be up to the task? There's only one way to find out!

It’s back to basics this week on RTW. Which means, in this case, that our show is becoming a bible podcast (with an emphasis on Jake Sisko)! We’re also talking about a particularly harrowing hour of television, in which our boy Jake learns about the horrors of war and, just maybe, becomes a MAN. Along the way, we dive deep into Bolian archetypes, talk about foot-based humor, Quarktajino, the acting talents of Idina Menzel, Billy Eichner and Julianne Moore (for some reason) and Jack explains to Sam what exactly “shelling” is. We also, most importantly, discover the magic of Mark Holton, the greatest actor of the last century, if not all time. Please be on our podcast, Mark Holton! We love you! #markholton #markholton #markholton
