Summary Welcome to another great episode of the Startup Junkie Podcast! On this episode of Startup Junkies, hosts Caleb Talley and Jeff Amerine are joined by Canem Arkan and Shawn Morris from Endeavor, the leading global community of, by, and for high-impact entrepreneurs. Endeavor is on a mission to build thriving entrepreneurial ecosystems in emerging and underserved markets around the world by inspiring high-growth founders to dream bigger. Endeavor creates a multiplier effect by providing entrepreneurs with the platform to scale faster and pay it forward, resulting in a compounding of their individual impact. Throughout the episode, Caleb, Jeff, Canem, and Shawn talk about the importance of exposing yourself to a variety of markets and how a thriving entrepreneurship ecosystem can exist anywhere with the right key people and support groups. Show Notes (0:47) Introducing Canem and Shawn (1:23) Endeavor's Origin Story (3:46) Endeavor's Expansion into New Markets (10:36) What's Next for Endeavor (23:13) The Importance of Storytelling for Northwest Arkansas (28:24) Celebrating Wins and Normalizing Failure (34:24) Gaining Exposure to Different Markets (41:14) Current Challenges in the State (47:06) Advice to Younger Self (50:51) Closing Question Links Caleb Talley Jeff Amerine Canem Arkan Shawn Morris Endeavor Quotes “We work with scaling founders with the goal of job creation and revenue generation and what that does for economic transformation…Because what we found was people with good ideas need certain help and people who have fifty or one hundred team members need a different kind of help. So how do we plug and support all the organizations that exist and do that for scaling founders who need a different kind of help?” - Canam Arkan, (1:23) “We still have a lot more to do. So part of what we're trying to focus on is are there areas of specialty we can really hone in on because we're industry agnostic, but it's hard to be everything to everyone, which is what we try to do.” - Canam Arkan, (11:00) “It feels more and more people are seeing that there's things happening here in NWA. And so whether it's investors from out of town or just founders in the region checking this place out, it feels more like people want to come in. And so how do we bring those people in and show them around and what's happening here and hold their feet to the fire of you've been here, you've seen it, now start doing stuff here.” - Shawn Morris, (12:35) “I think [celebrating wins] is helpful when it comes to selling to both, like bringing in and then retaining your employees, communicating to them like maybe we haven't raised a ton of money or we have a down round, but there's traction here. Your decision to jump ship from corporate to go work in a startup was smart because we're moving in the right direction. And I think we have to reiterate that and derisk it to people as often as possible.” - Shawn Morris, (30:59)
From being born in Turkey, to moving to Iraq during the war at the age of three, and then moving to a tiny apartment in New York City a few years later, Canem Arkan experienced culture shock at a young age. During these formative years, Canem realized she was capable of adapting and built a deep connection with her family. Throughout this episode, Canem and Rick discuss stepping out of your comfort zone and the importance of your support system when it comes to your career. Rick WestPlum Canem ArkanEndeavor

This week we discuss the penultimate episode of EK, and it has us feeling all kinds of ways...including frustrated with the writers for several missed Canem opportunities. Poetry Northwest’s new podcast, Seconds. In this episode, Keetje Kuipers talks with Iain Haley Pollock about his second book, Ghost, Like a Place.
This week, we get a confession out of Yidiot, just not the one we were hoping for. Said confession causes confusion that threatens to undo the progress we've seen in Canem so far, but our favorite baba intervenes to get these two to talk it out! Meanwhile, Emre proposes procreation with a pacifier, Fikri Harika works on copyrighting Sanem's perfume, and Huma begins to see just how unhinged her partner in crime truly is.Song mentioned this episode: Seni Ben Nasil Saklarim by Emre AzaklarQuestion of the Week: If you could choose anyone from the series for Deren to end up with, who would it be??Places to hang out with us:Website: http://dizzyfordizipodcast.comTwitter: http://twitter.com/dizzyfordiziInstagram: http://instagram.com/dizzyfordiziEmail us at: dizzyfordizipodcast@gmail.comSupport Dizzy for Dizi by donating to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/dizzy-for-dizi
Things are heating up this week, quite literally. Yidiot has gone from the ever so creepy Gimpy McFaker to straight up ARSONIST. Too bad the only thing it accomplishes is bringing Canem a step closer to one another. Meanwhile, Leyem is still a set of lying liars who lie, Can is determined to elicit a confession out of Yidiot, and thanks to an adventurous young boy, Can and Sanem spend the evening together in the woods, where Sanem discovers that he's read more of her book than she thinks. Oh, and did we mention THE DREAM Can has in this bolum?? Uuuffffff. Question of the Week: What's your favorite Can look? Man bun? Half bun? No bun? ALL HAIL DIZI QUEEN AYSE WHO HAS 'WRITE'-FULLY RETURNED TO THE THRONE!!This episode marks Ayse's return to the series, and her stamp is allllll over this bolum. We've got classic book quotes, the acknowledgement of issues that have been largely ignored or disregarded since she left, and some magical Canem moments that feel reminiscent of the early EK days. It's not all a bed of roses though, as we start to see Can and Sanem acknowledge their struggle with communication and trust in their relationship. It doesn't help that a couple of inHUMAne and Yidiotic people (we'll let you guess to whom we are referring) take their meddling to a level none of us could have imagined. Question of the Week: How do you feel about the direction Ayse is taking the series in her return to the show?Song mentioned this episode: Her Sey Biraz Hala Sen by Emre AydinPlaces to hang out with us:Website: http://dizzyfordizipodcast.comTwitter: http://twitter.com/dizzyfordiziInstagram: http://instagram.com/dizzyfordiziEmail us at: dizzyfordizipodcast@gmail.comSupport Dizzy for Dizi by donating to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/dizzy-for-dizi
Locking Can and Sanem in a freezer only served to make them icier than ever with one another. They're now determined to make the other see what they're missing out on, and our least favorite set of siblings have plans of their own where Canem is concerned. Things really start heating back up during a cooking class, and we aren't just referring to the fire on the stove.Question of the Week: What is your all time favorite Canem jealousy moment from the series?? The siblings are causing trouble through all of today's episode! Listen as we discuss Polen's fANcY cookbook, Yigit's budding publishing house, and jealous Can and his antics as he digs deep for tasks to keep Sanem nearby. Will time in the deep freeze spark Canem's love for each other? Let's find out!Songs mentioned in this episode: Hayal Edemezsin by Fikri Karayel Dizis mentioned in this episode: Her Yerde SenQuestion of the Week: Now that we know a little more about him, do you think Sanem is being naive in trusting Yigit so quickly? Prepare your hearts, arkadaslar, we're entering the pernicious thirties. The next handful of episodes are going to frustrating for our Canem-loving hearts. The poo has hit the propeller now that the truth about Sanem's perfume contract with Fabri has come out, leaving Can angry, confused and questioning whether he can forgive her. He decides to take a few days to clear his head and decide whether he wants to take a job offer in the Balkans or stay in Istanbul, but instead spends that time balancing a solicitous Sanem and a pushy Polen.Dizis & Songs mentioned this episode: I'm pretty sure Ash mentioned the dizi, "Kara Para Ask" now being on Netflix, but if not, this is us telling you there's a new dizi on the 'flix to check out. "Deck of Cards" by David Boone is the song Canem dances to at the hotel in Agva, and "Siyahin Kalbi" by Yaman is the song that plays in the truck on their drive back to Istanbul. Both are available on Spotify!Question of the Week: What are your thoughts about how Can reacted to Sanem in the opening scene? Problematic? Passionate? As Ashley likes to say, gird your loins, Early Birds. We are heading into some rough waters these next few episodes. Secrets, lies, and jealousy are back in full force, and we are not happy about it. We're worried about what's ahead for Canem, our sweet baby angel Osman is becoming a pawn in whatever game it is that LeyEm is playing, and with Huma & Aylin in the mix, it can only spell disaster all around. Thankfully, we do get a sprinkle of swoon, romance, and comedic relief as well.Question of the Week: Let's talk LeyMan. OsLa? Ugh. There's not even a good ship name for these two. We want to know your feelings about Leyla and Osman after this episode. Should their families and friends have done more to discourage their engagement? Are they both grown adults who should've just known better than to enter into a courtship? This week, it's allll coming out in the open. Canem is a secret no more, well, except to Nihat. Poor Baba is the only one not in the know, and it's a source of stress all around. Unfortunately, we also bear witness to Asli's character assassination of our sweet baby angel Osman, and Ashley has some FEELINGS about that. Don't fret though, we get some sweet Canem moments, and one HECK of a caveman ending to this week's bolum.Question of the Week: What, if anything, do you think the broken moonstone symbolized? We were obviously excited about this change in their relationship status, in case you couldn't tell... Merhaba, EBs!This week we cover Bolum 19, which means we have officially entered the Arkadas era.Don't become too disheartened about our favorite duo being stuck in The Friend Zone though, because this episode is a gigantic swoon-ami of Canem screentime.Question of the week: What has been your favorite story trope so far? We've had a lot of good ones already in these first nineteen episodes, so we are curious to know what you think!Correction: While we were chatting in the beginning of the episode, Kristin mentions Demet being with Baba Yaman & Can while they traveled to Italy based on a photo that had been shared right before we recorded this episode. About an hour after we finished, more photos surfaced, and it was shown to not be Demet, but just another traveler in line at the airport. So consider this a retraction of our excitement over the two of them traveling together.
