EDINBURG, Texas - Growth, growth, and more growth. That was the message Carlos Garza, project manager for Edinburg Economic Development Organization, made a pitch to investors from India. The event was hosted by the Council for South Texas Economic Progress and was held at the Casa De Palmas in McAllen.“One of the things that we boast here is that we are the fifth fastest growing city in Texas. That's Edinburg. We are actually ranked 12th in the United States. Why is that? Because we have over 140 subdivisions in preliminary review, construction and construction review. That totals over 5,700 lots,” Garza said.“If you are looking for a house you can go to Edinburg, you can go to Weslaco and go to McAllen. But we have them. There's so much growth going on right now in all of our region, which is great.”Edinburg is growing so fast there is not a lot of industrial or office space, Garza explained. “We have one percent availability, a vacancy rate of one percent, for offices. That shows you that there is no office space available in Edinburg. And a four percent vacancy rate for industrial. Every time some listing comes up, they go. They go so fast, Garza said.“The target areas that we're looking at, healthcare, biotech, logistics, manufacturing, they're all coming in fast into Edinburg and the region, because they know what's going on and what's happening.”Editor's Note: Go to the Rio Grande Guardian website to read the full story. Carlos, es un experto en finanzas personales y lleva ya algunos años ayudando a personas como tú y cómo yo a llevar uno de los procesos más tenebrosos de toda persona, salir de deudas. En alguna platica que tuve con el hace ya un tiempo el mencionaba un ejemplo propio de la diferencia de tener una deuda personal vs una deuda del negocio y eso cómo dueño de negocio, cómo emprendedor, llamo mucho mi atención. Carlos Garza has seen the Houston Hip Hop scene from it's humble beginnings to what it is today. We talk about everything from being captivated by hip hop in the late 70's to working at Soundwaves, discovering DJ Premier and more! Follow @DonnieHoustonPodcast
It is with a heavy heart that we had to come together once again to celebrate the life of yet another fallen soldier in our Houston Rap community. Bushwick Bill passed on this past weekend after a bout with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He is one of Houston's most important legends of rap. And was an incredible human. The Geto Boys set off an incredible industry and culture in Houston and put the city on the hip hop map. Bushwick Bill was an integral player in this and remained true to his music and his faith until his last breath. This is the full three hour show. Unfortunately for some reason KPFT in Houston was not recording and archiving shows this particular week so we got the audio in 3 parts from Skyla Dawn's Instagram live file. Thank God for her for real. She really saved the day and this important document. Unfortunately, this being in three parts means we lost very minimal parts of the show, but in those parts some important words were being spoken. Most importantly when DJ Premier called in and explained how my brother Carlos Garza, aka DJ Styles of the Odd Squad, was an integral part of getting Gangstarr together and then it cuts a bit out where we are giving high praise to the legend ESG. This recording also starts about two minutes into the show so you miss a bit of my intro. Kool Keith calls in as well as OG Fatal from Austin, TX. Daddy O from Stetsasonic came down to the studio live and talked about Bushwick's place in the golden era of hip hop. Texas T comes down and talks about the first time Bushwick ever rapped into a mic. Yungstar talks about being young and first hearing the Geto Boys and even some other classic hip hop tracks. All praise due to the legend BUSHWICK BILL! Please drop a comment and show some love to the man and please please please share this show far and wide. We need you to help keep this mans legacy alive. I love you all. Thank you for listening. matt
Sneha Sinha, from Oregon State University, and Carlos Garza, from the University of Texas at Arlington, were two of four students leading a panel session on diversity at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo 2019 in May. A full room of attendees with passionate voices expressed their opinions and concerns about ongoing issues surrounding equity and inclusion. What challenges lie ahead for people of color beginning their ISE careers? What can IISE and its members do to push the discussion into action? Will industry do more to recognize the value of diversity in the future? Sneha and Carlos talk about these topics in this episode with IISE's David Brandt. Episodio 16. Parte II Lo que me hubiera gustado saber antes de casarme ft Carlos Garza
Episodio 15
These days, we have all sorts of learning at our fingertips, including through podcasts! I’ve learned so much from listening to other educators sharing their ideas, tips, and lessons in podcasts, and I bet you have too. The wide variety of podcasts out there lets you choose exactly what subjects interest you. Teachers should get professional learning credit where credit is due, so let’s dig into some ways that you may be able to get credit for listening to podcasts. It isn’t necessarily easy to determine how much credit a teacher should get. Episodes aren’t always an hour long. Even if they are, there probably isn’t an hour of learning content, because there are other things in there too. One of my solutions to this is to include my question of the week in each podcast episode. This is one way of providing evidence of learning, and potentially getting credit for it. Today, I’ll share recordings from several teachers who explain what they’re doing in this regard. Carlos Garza has made a tracker to record your professional learning. Next, Laura Cahill shares her strategy for making online learning more accessible to teachers. After that, I’ll share some resources from Meredith Akers, who provided her EDU Podcast Tasting 2.0 and EDU Podcast Tasting and Podcasts and Pedometers. You’ll also hear how Jennifer Bell applies Meredith’s ideas. I hope this lesson inspires you and helps show you how to get credit for listening to podcasts! It may take some effort and time, but I truly believe this is a valuable cause that will benefit teachers. In This Episode: [00:28] - Kasey welcomes listeners to the show, and explains that today’s topic is how to get credit for listening to podcasts (like this one!). [01:17] - This week’s shoutout goes to Stephanie Ross Evans, Diane Royer, and Vicki Heupel, who all recently became Google Certified Educators! Stay tuned to learn more about Kasey’s courses. [02:26] - Kasey shares the purpose of this episode, and explains what podcast PD is. [06:21] - You can check out Kasey’s recommended podcasts for teachers at this link. Kasey briefly covers what each of these podcasts is about. [13:33] - This list is just scratching the surface, Kasey explains. Podcasting has never been hotter than it is now! [14:28] - Kasey points out that there are many ways that teachers are getting credit for listening to podcasts, and explains some of the complications. [16:27] - We hear about one of the ways that Kasey designed into each episode to help give evidence of teachers’ learning. [18:52] - Kasey shares some ways that some schools are giving credit for podcasts. She then shares Carlos Garza’s insight into tracking online learning. [22:08] - The next tip comes from Laura Cahill, who has a creative strategy for encouraging her community to listen to podcasts. [25:00] - Kasey shares some resources from Meredith Akers: EDU Podcast Tasting 2.0 and EDU Podcast Tasting and Podcasts and Pedometers. [29:51] - We hear about the Podcasts and Pedometers concept in more depth. [31:45] - Kasey invites teachers to think about whether there’s someone they can talk to about the idea of credit for podcasts. [33:00] - Attention, administrators! This section, the podcast question of the week, is for you. Ready? Name three ways that podcasts have helped improve your teaching and impacted your students. Post your answers in the Shake Up Learning Community on Facebook, or on your favorite social media platform using the #ShakeUpLearning hashtag. [34:00] - You can find all of the podcast questions of the week at this link. [34:51] - Have you thought about getting Google Certified? Kasey can help! She helps educators get certified through her three online courses: The Google Certified Educator Level 1 Academy The Google Certified Educator Level 2 Academy Become a Google Certified Trainer Online Course If you’re interested in taking more than one of these courses, get a bundle to save big! Enrollment only opens twice a year, so sign up when it opens on May 21st or you’ll need to wait until November. If you’re ready to learn more, head to this link! [37:14] - Thank you for tuning in!
