With Denise away, JD has complied a great GAY rewind remix with filmmaker Anthony Hand, financial coach David Lester, blogger and author Sean O'Callaghan and Chih and Mike Dorsey of The dumpling Dudes.
JD and Denise have a fun chat with husbands Mike and Chih, aka: The Dumpling Dudez (on social media). They talk about how the company came about, how Covid actually excelled their business, causing them to streamline and use social media more seriously. That, in turn, made them realise they could give up "corporate" life and pursue the dream of doing what they were passionate about and playing to one another's strengths in the business together. Now, they're making a huge, exclusive announcement about the direction they are heading as they prepare to leave Texas and head to Portland. To watch this on our YouTube Channel, click this link.

Based on longitudinal ethnographic work on migration between the United States and Taiwan, Time and Migration: How Long-Term Taiwanese Migrants Negotiate Later Life (Cornell UP, 2021) interrogates how long-term immigrants negotiate their needs as they grow older and how transnational migration shapes later-life transitions. Ken Chih-Yan Sun develops the concept of a “temporalities of migration” to examine the interaction between space, place, and time. He demonstrates how long-term settlement in the United States, coupled with changing homeland contexts, has inspired aging immigrants and returnees to rethink their sense of social belonging, remake intimate relations, and negotiate opportunities and constraints across borders. The interplay between migration and time shapes the ways aging migrant populations reassess and reconstruct relationships with their children, spouses, grandchildren, community members, and home, as well as host societies. Aging, Sun argues, is a global issue and must be reconsidered in a cross-border environment. Ken Chih-Yan Sun is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Villanova University. Chih Lin and Mike Dorsey were trained as engineers and worked in the oil & gas industry in Houston, Texas. But both were miserable at work and decided they needed to make a change. They launched a company called “Dumpling Dudez” and turned their attention to teaching small groups of people the art of dumpling-making. They started in April, 2019 and had a successful launch. And when Covid-19 shut down their in-person classes, they switched to virtual classes and selling the world's first "ready-to-bake" dumping commercially. At the age of 15, Chih Lin came to the United States from Taiwan. He learned how to make dumplings from his grandmother. "I don't remember the taste of the dumplings. But I always remember how I feel when I make dumplings with my family. That's what dumpling making is...your hands are busy and then you live in the present. And when you live in the present, the conversations come up very nicely, very real and easier for you to connect with other people." Chih's business & life partner Mike Dorsey concludes the episode with some strong advice for second act aspirants: "If you're really unhappy at work and it's causing you so much grief, find an exit strategy and start working towards it today. A small step today can become a huge leap tomorrow." Click here to learn more about the Dumpling Dudez, their classes and their "ready-to-bake" dumplings.

In this episode of "Storied With Garima", we sit down with the Founders of Dumpling Dudez, a Houston based enterprise, to learn about their unique approach to creating a one-of-a-kind dumpling making experience. Michael Dorsey and Chih Lin began with a leap of faith into a world they knew little about. They share with Garima the inspiration behind Dumpling Dudez and what led them to leave their comfortable corporate careers to build this business. We talk about their struggles, the support from the community, their love for each other, and this extraordinary entrepreneurial journey. Do listen and share your thoughts with us.
