** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in WYGYFF Episode 7: Fellow funkateer, Prince lover and podcaster – Chris Horton, better known as Mr. Christopher! For almost 20 years, he has run the Funkatopia website that was frequented by Prince himself, and today includes a popular podcast, radio station, music reviews and more. A few other tidbits: He was born in NJ, relocated to Atlanta and modeled as a teen, including Macy's catalog; he sang in commercials for Coke, United Way and Nancy Reagan's Just Say No; and he performed with local bands and started SLABMusic.com to support Southern region musicians. Here he talks about his Prince encounters and perspectives, high-profile interviews and what's next for the Funkatopia platform. RECORDED OCTOBER 2024 Hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist, author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” and creator/host of the popular TRUTH IN RHYTHM podcast — "Where'd You Get Your Funk From?" is the latest interview show brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright. As people in Taiwan watch the war in Ukraine, NPR's Mary Louise Kelly talks with veteran journalist Chris Horton about what they think it could mean for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
The war between Russia and Ukraine is reverberating in Taiwan, a self-governed island that China claims as its own and has threatened to invade if Taiwan declares independence.Residents of the island are watching intently as Ukraine defends itself against a much larger and more powerful adversary. And they are thinking about what it takes to galvanize international support. The U.S. has a longstanding policy of ambiguity when it comes to talking about Taiwan and independence, not wanting to risk a conflict with China. So it was surprising last month when President Biden said the that U.S. will defend Taiwan in the event of an invasion by China. We speak to journalist Chris Horton, who is based in Taiwan. His recent piece in The Atlantic is headlined, "The Lessons Taiwan is Learning from Ukraine."In participating regions, you'll also hear a local news segment to help you make sense of what's going on in your community.Email us at considerthis@npr.org.

Chris Horton is the Senior Director of Fisheries Policy at the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF), an organization dedicated to protecting and advancing hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping. In response to the Biden Administration's “America the Beautiful” initiative to conserve 30 percent of national lands and waters by 2030, CSF created the Hunt Fish 30x30 Coalition. The coalition raises awareness about the critical role hunting and fishing play in conservation and advocates for solutions that allow hunting and angling to continue this legacy. Horton and host Mike Leonard talk about the different ways conservation is being defined to create federal and state 30x30 policies, supporting and undermining the importance of recreational fishing in the process. The UK has now seen several public listings with dual class share structures, including most the £5.4 billion IPO of The Hut Group, which had a “special” share for the founder. With the UK government keen to increase the marketability of UK listings following Brexit, we anticipate that US dual class deal architecture is likely to be featured on a growing number of London listings — a development that could benefit PE firms and founder managers seeking to retain a greater governance role post-IPO. In this episode of Connected With Latham, London private equity partner Tom Evans speaks with London capital markets partner Chris Horton about the opportunities this trend may present to private equity participants active in the UK. Host Bob St.Pierre is joined by Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever's Director of Government Affairs Jim Inglis for a conversation with Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation's Chris Horton and Kent Keene. Chris and Kent explain how CSF works on three different government levels (federal, state, and gubernatorial) to advance habitat, hunting, and angling legislation across the country. Episode Highlights: The crew goes around the horn on a variety of legislative issues, including: o Right to hunt & fish amendments at the state level o Dedicated funding for natural resources at the state level o Funding for conservation through sports betting and lottery funds o The history and facts around the 30X30 concept AND why hunters & anglers should embrace this initiative o Plans for the 2023 federal Farm Bill o The guys even have some fun banter focused on an Oklahoma proposal to create a bigfoot hunting season.
