Fifteen million people, half of all workers, are set to benefit from the Employment Rights Bill, which will establish day one rights to parental and bereavement leave, include sick pay for up to 1.3 million of the lowest earners, and challenge fire and rehire practices. This marks the biggest shift since the Employment Rights Act of 1996. For HR professionals and business leaders, the conversation isn't about whether this bill matters, it's about how quickly they can prepare. On this episode of the HR on the Offensive podcast Chris Howard and Chris Horton are joined by Paul Chamberlain, Head of Employment at JMW Solicitors, as they discuss what changes HR teams should be preparing for. Although, the bill is set to roll out in stages the impact will be felt immediately.

Hunting, fishing, and outdoor access face new legislative battles—here's what every sportsman should know. In this episode, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation team breaks down the latest updates shaping hunting, fishing, and outdoor conservation policy at both the state and federal levels. First, Taylor Schmitz dives into recent public lands legislation, explaining how new proposals could impact hunters, anglers, and outdoor recreation. He highlights the fight to remove harmful language from a reconciliation package, stresses the dangers of selling federal public lands, and shares why community engagement is key to protecting access for future generations. Next, Chris Horton covers Q3 updates in the fisheries and boating sector, including the reauthorization of the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund and the latest movement on the SHARKED Act. We discuss how shark depredation is affecting saltwater anglers, why conservation strategies must balance fisheries management with angler access, and how visual storytelling is being used to highlight marine conservation issues. Finally, John Culclasure brings an update on federal and state forest policy, unpacking the challenges of wildfire threats, roadless rule restrictions, and timber sales. He shares highlights from the American Forest Congress, emphasizes the importance of stakeholder collaboration in active forest management, and explains what new legislation could mean for hunters, anglers, and forest health nationwide. Key Takeaways for Hunters, Anglers, and Outdoor Enthusiasts: Selling federal public lands can create long-term problems for outdoor access if not done with careful analysis and forethought. The Farm Bill and upcoming federal funding deadlines could reshape conservation priorities. The Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund is vital for fisheries and boating programs. Shark depredation is a growing problem for saltwater anglers. Forest management legislation, including the Fix Our Forests Act, could impact wildfire prevention. Collaboration between government, industry, and conservation groups is essential for sustainable outdoor policy. Whether you're passionate about public lands, fisheries, or forestry, this episode will keep you informed on the policy debates shaping the future of hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation in America. Can oil rigs actually improve marine habitats and fishing opportunities in the Gulf? The answer is an unequivocal “YES”, as this feature episode of The Sportsmen's Voice Podcast details. Host Fred Bird is joined by CSF's Chris Horton and Kevin Bruce from Arena Energy to discuss the Rigs to Reef program—a vital conservation initiative for saltwater anglers, commercial fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. They explore: Why reefing-in-place helps conserve and protect marine ecosystems and coastal fishing access, How permitting bottlenecks threaten reef development, The bipartisan push for legislation that supports this critical marine infrastructure, and Highlights from the new documentary Steel To Sanctuary, which sheds light on the reefing effort and its impact on fishermen, divers, and coastal communities. Whether you're a saltwater angler, conservation advocate, or part of the outdoor industry, this episode breaks down how some offshore energy infrastructure can be part of a healthy future for America's marine fisheries. In this episode of Taiwan Salon, GTI Senior Programs Manager Adrienne Wu and Communications Associate Yuchen Lee interview Chris Horton, a freelance journalist based in Taipei. Chris talks about his journey to Taipei, international news coverage of Taiwan, and his upcoming book, Ghost Nation: The Story of Taiwan and Its Struggle for Survival.
Chris Horton is a freelance journalist who has been based in Taiwan since 2015, before many Western publications had any dedicated presence on the island. Over the last decade, he has contributed to the New York Times, Bloomberg, The Atlantic, and numerous other publications regarding Taiwan-related topics. In this episode of the New Books Network, we chat with Chris about his debut book, Ghost Nation: The Story of Taiwan and Its Struggle for Survival (Pan Macmillan, 2025). Ghost Nation weaves together figures and events from across Taiwan's present and history to provide an approachable narrative about how Taiwan came to be the vibrant island nation it is today, and the challenges that it faces amidst an increasingly assertive China. Tune in as we chat with Chris about everything from stinky tofu, Chris' go-to rechao stir-fry restaurant in Taipei (Eight Immortals Grill), how one of Taiwan's former Presidents tried to “Make Taiwan China Again” (and sparked a protest movement in the process), and why democratic countries ought to stand in solidarity with the “Ghost Nation” of Taiwan. Ghost Nation will be released on July 17, 2025, and is available for pre-order today. Anthony Kao is a writer who intersects international affairs and cultural criticism. He founded/edits Cinema Escapist—a publication exploring the sociopolitical context behind global film and television—and also writes for outlets like The Guardian, Al Jazeera, The Diplomat, and Eater. ** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in WYGYFF Episode 7: Fellow funkateer, Prince lover and podcaster – Chris Horton, better known as Mr. Christopher! For almost 20 years, he has run the Funkatopia website that was frequented by Prince himself, and today includes a popular podcast, radio station, music reviews and more. A few other tidbits: He was born in NJ, relocated to Atlanta and modeled as a teen, including Macy's catalog; he sang in commercials for Coke, United Way and Nancy Reagan's Just Say No; and he performed with local bands and started SLABMusic.com to support Southern region musicians. Here he talks about his Prince encounters and perspectives, high-profile interviews and what's next for the Funkatopia platform. RECORDED OCTOBER 2024 Hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist, author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” and creator/host of the popular TRUTH IN RHYTHM podcast — "Where'd You Get Your Funk From?" is the latest interview show brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright. Our conversation today with Nancy Horton and her son Chris, from Horton's Nursery and Garden Center gives the history of their business, which started in 1976 as a wholesale operation out of their garage, and later expanded to include a full-service nursery and garden center. Chris talks about growing up in the nursery and learning about landscaping and plant care, the current trend of houseplants, and the benefits of having greenery indoors. They also discuss the different products they offer, such as hardscaping supplies, a variety of pots, and hydroponic supplies. They both explain the benefits of their re-potting station that's offered to customers. Last year, Horton's Nursery & Garden Center began offering events in the greenhouse space vacated by plants that needed more overnight warmth. They are also hosting a Galentine's Shopping Event on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from noon til 4pm.
