May is DCOM Month! By shockingly popular request, this month we're covering Disney Channel Original Movies and our first one is the third one ever: 1998's Brink! Ben, Sam, and Vaz get worked by this totally phat time capsule "film" from Greg Beeman, extremely loosely based on "Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates" by Mary Mapes Dodge. Directed by Greg Beeman, starring Erik von Detten, Sam Horrigan, Christina Vidal, and David Graf.
When you woke up this morning did you say to yourself, "Today I'm gonna talk, or today I'm gonna skate!?" "Brink!" star Christina Vidal is dusting off those rollerblades and joining Will and Sabrina on an all-new episode!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Take us away because we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of Freaky Friday (2003), the iconic Disney flick starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies and are forced to live in each other's shoes. Throughout their day, they have their run-ins with school bullies, interesting therapy clientele, and love interests while navigating talk show appearances, wedding rehearsal dinners and band auditions. Buckle in for this episode because it starts off with Kaitlyn and Jeremy swapping bodies, themselves! Plus, since we're talking about a Disney movie, Jeremy tries not to use any naughty words. The results are interesting. During our discussion of Freaky Friday (2003), we talk about: Comparisons to the other versions of Freaky Friday, including the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, 1976 original film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the 1995 made-for-TV film starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, the 2016 stage musical starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton, and the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. How the “body-swap genre” works better in TV and film vs. books, plus callbacks to memorable body-swap stories on Charmed and (of course) Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Chad Michael Murray rocking long hair. Is it ethical for Jake to date Anna? Is Jake even a student?? Problematic depictions about mental health and the use of the word “crazy” in an ableist context. Racist Asian stereotypes behind Pei Pei (Rosalind Chao), Pei Pei's mom (Lucille Soong), and the staff of the House of Chang restaurant. Surprise! The Pink Slit song, “Take Me Away,” performed by Christina Vidal is actually a cover of a song by the Australian alternative punk rock group, Lash. Justice for Christina Vidal's one-season wonder Nickelodeon television show, Taina! Our personal experiences with “earthquakes” (note the giant air quotes!). More talk about how Gen Z doesn't use flat sheets, for some reason. How the Stacey (Julie Gonzalo) character doesn't really receive her comeuppance...except she does in a deleted scene that we didn't know about until after we finished recording. Kaitlyn getting very offended seeing a teacher do a crossword puzzle in the teacher's lounge. Jamie Lee Curtis being gender goals. This movie's connection to the original Freaky Friday film from 1976. The Bowling for Soup cover of “...Baby One More Time,” which triggers lots of Britney Spears talk. That time Chad Michael Murray made out with Jamie Lee Curtis (Quick fact check: Jeremy incorrectly stated that the interview was with Entertainment Tonight. It was actually Busy Tonight!) Whether this movie really needed Chad Michael Murray's character. A potential Freaky Friday 2? You can listen to the full episode by subscribing at the $5 level over at patreon.com/alwaysothpod. Happy Wine Wednesday! Philip of Fandom Bite/Fandom Slash returns to the podcast this week to discuss the delightful Amazon Freevee series, Primo. As we wisely counseled you in the past about shows such as Grand Crew, Abbott Elementary, and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, this is some sh*t you should absolutely be watching. "Freevee" means this show is FREE with very minimal commercials, so there is absolutely nothing keeping you from checking it out. You can find it here.Primo is a heartwarming, funny show based on the life of the show's creator Shea Serrano. Philip and I discuss the pilot and then share our thoughts about the first season as a whole. Of course we tackle the very difficult task of figuring out which uncle is our favorite. We love the uncles as an exploration into masculinity and the respective points of view they bring to their relationship with Rafa. We also discuss our thoughts about Rafa and Drea - the casting for both of these characters was absolutely perfect. We really hope this wonderful show gets another season. Pay the writers and actors so we can get more of this delightful family! In that spirit, we close the discussion with our wish list for season 2. And in the thirst segment, I asked Philip to give me some thirst-inspired choices for actors he'd like to see join this very talented cast. Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time!Find, follow, and support Philip here, over at Fandom Bite here, and on IG here.Support the showFollow the pod on IG and Twitter. I had the pleasure of interviewing Christina Vidal Mitchell and she is so kind and sweet, it was a wonderful interview that I hope you all enjoy. You might recognize her from Brink, Freak Friday, Taina, See No Evil, Code Black, Training Day (series), Sneaky Pete, Grand Hotel, United We Fall, and now from Primo, plus many other things. I have been a fan for a long time and still randomly think about Taina. I cannot recommend Primo enough, it is on Freevee and there are 8 episodes, so go watch it and that way we can make sure we get more seasons. Drunk Uncle Cocktail (liquor.com): Ingredients 1 and 1/2 ounces Islay scotch (such as Bowmore or Laphroaig) 3/4 ounce Cynar amaro 3/4 ounce Martini & Rossi bianco vermouth Grapefruit Directions Add the Islay scotch, Cynar and bianco vermouth into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist. Drinking Game: Drink when... you can relate to a character. you realize your uncle acts that way. Drea gives anyone a firm but loving scolding. Rollie ends up giving the best advice. someone says "Primo". As always, drink responsibly and with friends. Share the podcast with others. PRIMO premieres on May 19th on Freevee, Amazon's free streaming service. Thanks for listening! If you enjoyed the episode, be sure to subscribe to the podcast and leave a review!
Who remembers that early 2000s Nickelodeon show 'Taina?' The series only ran from 2001 to 2002, but that theme song is still stuck in our heads. Actress Christina Vidal Mitchell played the main character, Taina Morales, an aspiring teenage singer with dreams of making it big in Hollywood. You'll also definitely remember the star from the Lindsey Lohan classic, 'Freaky Friday,' and the old school Disney Channel Original Movie, 'Brink.' So, what has she been up to in recent years? Chris and Taylor review the new Netflix crime thriller film "The Guilty" written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Antoine Fuqua. Based on the Danish film of the same name, the film follows a demoted LAPD officer working at a call dispatch center who gets wrapped up in an emergency phone call from an abducted woman. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Christina Vidal, Adrian Martinez with the voice talents of Riley Keough, Peter Sarsgaard, Eli Goree, Ethan Hawke, Bill Burr and Paul Dano.
This week's @EchoChamberFP is a 'TWO Parter!' In 'Part One' we look at three very different films, two of which are from Antoine Fuqua. 'Urge' is directed by Aaron Kaufman written by Jerry Stahl. A weekend getaway takes a dangerous turn when a mysterious nightclub owner (Pierce Brosnanl) introduces a group of friends to a new designer drug. Stripped of their inhibitions, they start living out their wildest fantasies — but what starts out as a fun night of partying quickly turns deadly, as the island paradise deteriorates into a tropical madhouse. 'Infinite' is the new film from, Antoine Fuqua, Ian Shorr & Todd Stein, adapted from D. Eric Maikranz's 'The Reincarnationist Papers' for the big screen. It follows Evan McCauley (Mark Wahlberg), a self-medicated man diagnosed as schizophrenic because he's plagued by memories of places he's never visited. But just as he's on the verge of a mental breakdown, Evan is visited by the Infinites, a secret society who informs him that not only are his memories real, but they are from all his past lives. The Infinites take Evan into their fold and help him unlock the answers to his memories. Together, they must stop one of their own, Bathurst (Chiwetel Ejiofor), from his mission to destroy humanity. Antoine Fuqua & Nic Pizzolatto adapt the Danish film (same name) 'The Guilty'. The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger-but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out. The summer of 1993 has arrived and gives us a look at precocious children and manipulative adults on Out of Touchstone. The first film that Mike and Chad discuss is the underrated Touchstone family film, LIFE WITH MIKEY, featuring Michael J. Fox as a talent agent taking in a new protegee. The child stars (Christina Vidal and David Krumholtz) are terrific and though it is quite conventional it still warms the heart. Afterwards, the co-hosts look at two more Disney films to compare and contrast the idea of mentorship of an impressionable mind (with BORN YESTERDAY from Hollywood Pictures) and detail how kids get away with anything (as in Walt Disney's THE ADVENTURES OF HUCK FINN).

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Christina Vidal. Christina Vidal was born and raised in Whitestone, Queens, New York. The youngest child of Puerto Rican parents Josephine and Manuel, Vidal always marched to the beat of her own drum. She began acting by chance when her junior high school teacher gave her a flyer for an open audition in the film LIFE WITH MIKEY. Eventually, Christina landed the lead role with Michael J. Fox and achieved two milestones: her professional debut and becoming the first Puerto Rican child actress to play a lead in an American film. For high school, Christina attended the Performing Arts School of New York. Vidal was just getting started. She has since appeared in many television series and specials, holding both series lead and series regular roles. Vidal is often known for her performance in the title role of Nickelodeon’s TAINA which ran for two seasons. She later went to star in FREAKY FRIDAY opposite Lindsay Lohan (2003) and SEE NO EVIL (2006). Most recently, Vidal starred in the NBC Pilot CURSE OF THE FUENTES WOMEN and also held roles in CODE BLACK, LIMITLESS, and BLUE BLOODS. She now goes on to join the cast of TRAINING DAY. A woman of many talents, Christina is also known for her musical inclinations. She has collaborated with such artists as Will Smith, Jade Villalon, and Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls. She has also contributed songs for the soundtracks of FREAKY FRIDAY, TAINA, and BYOU. In her spare time, Christina enjoys watching films; particularly those starring Julia Roberts, Ashley Judd, Sally Field, Al Pacino, and Jack Nicholson. Not solely limited to the silver screen, she can also be found binge watching DOWNTOWN ABBEY and FRIENDS. Christina loves salsa dancing, cooking for her family, and interior decorating. Her sisters Lisa and Tanya Vidal are also actors who have appeared on TV and in theatre. Her brother Christian, the only boy, rounds out her tight-knit family of 6. . There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
