The Hawk is finally here in Chicago but it cant stop the Word this week. Cody, Bree, and the Chris crew fall through to rap about the week that was. Beginning with Donald Trump's Inauguration, bringing TikTok back from the dead, and the backlash black artists like Snoop and Rick Ross are receiving for performing at the presidential festivities. Dave Chappelle hosting SNL shined light on GloRilla's performance and Cody gives Glo her flowers while dissecting her development as an entertainer compared to the field. This sparks a conversation on why Cody feels like "music is a**" in today's cultural scene. Next, What's The Word is joined by a special guest in Chicago artist Woes, to talk about his latest project "Pressing My Luck." We chop it up about his musical inspirations, the creative process that goes into putting his videos together, performing on box trucks during Lollapalooza, and much more. We end this episode giving our thoughts on the latest installment of "Dinner with the Don" featuring Ari and Taina. Stuck in the crib because Mother Nature is being bogus? Don't tweak...What's The Word has got you covered. Tap In!...

In 2001, Nickelodeon started airing "Taina," a show about a Latina teen who attends a performing arts high school in NYC and daydreams of being a star. While the show only lasted two seasons, "Taina" is seared into the memories of many who grew up watching it, because at the time it was rare to see an authentic portrayal of what it was like to be a Nuyorican teen in the early 2000s. In this episode from our vault, Maria Hinojosa talks to the show's award-winning creator Maria Perez-Brown, who is Nuyorican herself, about jumping into the world of children's television after being a tax lawyer, and the surprisingly long legacy of “Taina.”This episode originally aired in 2019.Follow us on TikTok and YouTube. Welcome to another episode of The Round Table! This week, our hosts Heba, Kassandra, and Daniella welcome Taina B. Wagnac, Senior Manager of State and Local Policy at the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC). Taina shares her inspiring journey from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to becoming a powerful advocate for immigrant rights in New York State. With her extensive experience in legislative strategy and policy analysis, Taina has been at the forefront of initiatives that enhance language access, expand civic participation, and ensure equitable protections for immigrant communities. During our conversation, we dive deep into critical topics such as the influence of pop culture on political views, the importance of youth voter mobilization, and the role of immigrant voices in politics. Taina provides insightful perspectives on the Trump-Haiti dynamic and discusses the significance of breaking down language barriers in elections, particularly for Black immigrants. We also explore the vibrant intersection of Caribbean culture and New York identity, highlighting what it truly means to be a "true New Yorker." Tune in as we unpack the complexities of politics through the lens of current TV shows and movies, and discuss how they shape the beliefs and activism of younger generations. Thank you for listening!

Esikoiskirjailija Eino Taina keskustelee kanssani romaanistaan Se laajenee. Osta Se lajeenee Avaimen verkkokaupasta https://avain.net/tuote/eino_taina/se_laajenee/9789523045545

Send me a text!Micro-actions to manifest big change is key because we can often feel overwhelmed by the changes we want to make in our own life, let alone the change we'd like to see in the world. The best part is micro-actions naturally build on themselves. First and most obviously, they provide momentum as you do the next thing and then the next thing. Second, they teach our brain what to focus on, so we notice more opportunities to access or create what we want. Understanding how our brain relates to our behavior can allow you to take small, totally doable steps that will naturally move you forward. In this episode of Unlimited, I invited Taina Brown (she/her) to join me in a conversation around using micro-actions to manifest big change in your life and in the world. Some of what we talk about in this episode includes:Building momentum to manifest what you wantHacking your brain's algorithmFeeding abundance vs scarcityIdentifying a micro-action to takeLINKS FROM THIS EPISODE: How to Manifest What you WantReclaiming Creativity and Healing Through ArtEmergent Strategy by adrienne maree brownCONNECT WITH TAINA:WebsiteInstagramLinkedInMessy Liberation PodcastCONNECT WITH VALERIE: Website Instagram Facebook Get email updatesSupport the Show.

Olemmeko me ihmiset oman onnemme seppiä, ympäristömme tuotoksia vai jokin näiden yhdistelmä? Take us away because we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of Freaky Friday (2003), the iconic Disney flick starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies and are forced to live in each other's shoes. Throughout their day, they have their run-ins with school bullies, interesting therapy clientele, and love interests while navigating talk show appearances, wedding rehearsal dinners and band auditions. Buckle in for this episode because it starts off with Kaitlyn and Jeremy swapping bodies, themselves! Plus, since we're talking about a Disney movie, Jeremy tries not to use any naughty words. The results are interesting. During our discussion of Freaky Friday (2003), we talk about: Comparisons to the other versions of Freaky Friday, including the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, 1976 original film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the 1995 made-for-TV film starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, the 2016 stage musical starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton, and the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. How the “body-swap genre” works better in TV and film vs. books, plus callbacks to memorable body-swap stories on Charmed and (of course) Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Chad Michael Murray rocking long hair. Is it ethical for Jake to date Anna? Is Jake even a student?? Problematic depictions about mental health and the use of the word “crazy” in an ableist context. Racist Asian stereotypes behind Pei Pei (Rosalind Chao), Pei Pei's mom (Lucille Soong), and the staff of the House of Chang restaurant. Surprise! The Pink Slit song, “Take Me Away,” performed by Christina Vidal is actually a cover of a song by the Australian alternative punk rock group, Lash. Justice for Christina Vidal's one-season wonder Nickelodeon television show, Taina! Our personal experiences with “earthquakes” (note the giant air quotes!). More talk about how Gen Z doesn't use flat sheets, for some reason. How the Stacey (Julie Gonzalo) character doesn't really receive her comeuppance...except she does in a deleted scene that we didn't know about until after we finished recording. Kaitlyn getting very offended seeing a teacher do a crossword puzzle in the teacher's lounge. Jamie Lee Curtis being gender goals. This movie's connection to the original Freaky Friday film from 1976. The Bowling for Soup cover of “...Baby One More Time,” which triggers lots of Britney Spears talk. That time Chad Michael Murray made out with Jamie Lee Curtis (Quick fact check: Jeremy incorrectly stated that the interview was with Entertainment Tonight. It was actually Busy Tonight!) Whether this movie really needed Chad Michael Murray's character. A potential Freaky Friday 2? You can listen to the full episode by subscribing at the $5 level over at patreon.com/alwaysothpod.
