In this episode of The Halloween Podcast, we're uncovering ten of North Dakota's most haunted locations. From eerie forts to mysterious ghost towns, the Peace Garden State has more than its fair share of ghostly legends. So, grab a seat, turn off the lights, and join me as we explore the haunted side of North Dakota. Featured Locations: Fort Abraham Lincoln 4480 Fort Lincoln Rd, Mandan, ND 58554 In addition to the spirits of soldiers, Fort Abraham Lincoln is said to be haunted by Native American spirits who once inhabited the area. Some visitors have reported seeing the ghostly figures of horses galloping across the plains, perhaps tied to the battles that once raged here. The fort's cemetery is also known for its eerie atmosphere, with strange lights often spotted at night. North Dakota State Capitol 600 E Boulevard Ave, Bismarck, ND 58505 The Capitol building is also rumored to be haunted by a former governor who roams the halls, particularly near the legislative chambers. During nighttime security rounds, guards have reported hearing the faint sound of an old-fashioned typewriter in empty offices, as well as the smell of cigar smoke lingering in the air, despite a strict no-smoking policy. Children's Museum at Yunker Farm 1201 28th Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102 In addition to the sounds of children's laughter, some visitors have claimed to see the image of a young boy peering out from the windows. The basement, which is not open to the public, is rumored to have its own paranormal activity, with reports of cold drafts and unexplained sounds, especially near the old coal room. White Lady Lane Near Walhalla, ND 58282 Locals have reported that vehicles sometimes experience strange malfunctions on White Lady Lane, with headlights flickering and engines stalling near the site of the accident. There are also tales of a ghostly dog that appears alongside the White Lady, as if to protect her on her eternal vigil. San Haven Sanatorium San Haven Rd, Dunseith, ND 58329 San Haven is also known for its eerie abandoned tunnels, which were once used to transport patients. These tunnels are said to be especially haunted, with visitors reporting disembodied voices and shadowy figures lurking in the dark. Paranormal investigators have captured EVPs of voices calling for help, as well as sightings of orbs and mist. Liberty Memorial Building 604 E Boulevard Ave, Bismarck, ND 58505 In addition to the ghostly librarian, some visitors have reported seeing an apparition of a man in military uniform near the building's war memorial section, perhaps a tribute to the fallen soldiers memorialized within. There are also reports of cold spots in the stairwells, believed to be areas where spirits linger. Rough Riders Hotel 301 3rd Ave, Medora, ND 58645 The ghost of a young woman in a 19th-century dress has also been seen wandering the upper floors of the hotel, believed to be a former guest who never left. The hotel's restaurant has experienced strange happenings, with silverware moving on its own and the lights flickering during quiet hours. Harvey Public Library 119 10th St E, Harvey, ND 58341 In addition to Sophie's spirit, some visitors claim to have seen the shadow of a man lurking near the basement stairs. Locals believe this could be Sophie's husband, forever tormented by the act he committed, bound to the library where her spirit resides. Old Armory 320 1st Ave E, Williston, ND 58801 The Old Armory is also known for the occasional sighting of a spectral bugler, who is heard but never seen, playing taps late at night. Visitors have also reported feeling a sudden cold breeze in the gymnasium, accompanied by the faint scent of gunpowder, believed to be residual energy from training exercises. Leonard Mausoleum Leonard Cemetery, County Rd 15, Leonard, ND 58052 Visitors to the Leonard Mausoleum have also reported seeing the figure of a tall man standing guard near the entrance, believed to be a former caretaker. This shadowy figure is said to follow visitors, disappearing into the mist if they attempt to approach the mausoleum at night. Sliding in better late than never this week (DAMN POWER OUTAGE!!) with my fabulous new friend, Tarin O'Donnell of the Tarin It Up Podcast.Tarin and I met through a women's podcasting group, and even before I listened to her podcast, I realized I had to have her on because she's been living a life that a lot of us glamorize and feel a little bit envious of…. Picture snowy woodlands, gorgeous mountains and lakes, skiing, snowmobiles, yoga, avy training at a craft brewery... It's Lake Tahoe for crying out loud. You know the jam.But - the reason I wanted to invite her on was NOT to give us an even worse case of FOMO - it's because Tarin also keeps it totally real when it comes to talking about the hard and challenging things that can be part and parcel of “living the dream”.There's so much good stuff here - Tarin has spent almost her entire life tearing up the list of traditional expectations that society tries to guardrail girls and women with (spoiler alert: yes, she's a wrestler!!). She's also been super creative in the way she's crafted a life she can live on her own terms - up to and including recognizing and problem-solving for the burnout and financial challenges that pop up like annoying whack-a-moles as a result of her seasonal, outdoor-oriented lifestyle. So listen up! And if you agree that Tarin would be the coolest online fitness coach and trainer ever, you can check out her offerings on her business site, TKOYogaFit.com, or connect directly with her on Instagram @tarin.k.o , she's TKOYogaFit on Facebook, or TarinODonnell on LinkedIn.And you most definitely should click on over to the Tarin It Up Podcast right now and subscribe or follow, maybe even queue a few up for this weekend's drive up to whatever adventure you'll be getting at once this stupid weather blows through. Across Minnesota and the nation, new and more diverse independent bookstores have been popping up. In fact, for every independent bookstore that has closed since 2020, more than three new ones have opened, according to the American Booksellers Association. It's part of a continuing trend jumpstarted by the pandemic, and each of these bookstores has a story of its own. When Josh Hames saw the storefront up for lease in West St. Paul, he knew it was perfect for a bookstore. It was late at night, and the lights on the side of the building illuminated the old brick building. He could see the tall ceilings through the windows. “It looked like the cover to ‘Needful Things' by Stephen King a little bit,” he said. Hames, 30, opened Other Skies Weird Fiction in 2022, just in time for his favorite holiday: Halloween. The store sells high-quality editions of horror, sci-fi and imaginative fiction. Hames has been collecting these genres since he was 14, but the pandemic shutdown really clarified that passion. “We all had time to reflect on, what are the things that we really, really like to do when we go out? And for me I found that, even before the pandemic, I would always spend all my time looking for books, at Goodwill, thrift shops, estate sales. I was always out there buying books, and I thought, man, that's really important, I want to be a part of that,” he said. It turns out, others do, too, and Hames said he's been blown away by the community of readers who share his interest. A couple hundred miles to the northwest, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Amy Erickson was feeling the lack of a bookstore in her town. The closest one was about a half-hour away, ever since the local Book World closed. “And when they closed, I said, ‘I don't know that I can live in a town without a bookstore.' It just felt wrong somehow,” Erickson said. Erickson was a 49-year-old stay-at-home mother of three. When the pandemic hit and her husband suddenly stopped traveling for work, they had some big family discussions. “And I said, you know, if I don't do this by the time I'm 50, I'm probably never going to do it,” she said. “I don't want to live knowing that I there was something that I wanted to do and I could do and I just didn't do it.” In May 2022, she took a leap of faith and launched Bluebird Books. It's a family affair: Her three teenage kids are now all old enough to work in the store, along with some of their friends. “I love being surrounded by books all the time,” she said. “My favorite thing in the world is when someone walks back into the bookstore and says, ‘You recommended that book to me, and I absolutely loved it. What else? What other recommendations do you have?' That makes my heart happy.” Bluebird Books and Other Skies Weird Fiction are two of the 15 new independent bookstores that have opened in Minnesota since March 2020. That's a big rise, and it's in line with a regional and national trend. Carrie Obry is the executive director of the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association. She credits the rise in part to Bookshop.org, the website that lets people buy books online and shares the profit with indie bookstores. She says having that online platform has democratized the bookselling industry. “There's just a whole new influx of wonderful much-needed energy and diversity coming through our ranks of bookstore owners,” Obry said. There are challenges, of course, for any bookstore: competition for customers' time and attention, accelerating rent rates in an industry prone to low wages and supply chain issues. Former educator Mary Taris never expected to open a bookstore. When she got fed up with not seeing enough great children's books by authors of color, she started Strive Publishing in 2018. She quickly found the need was far greater than a one-woman publisher could address. After the murder of George Floyd, Taris said Strive publishing was flooded with people wanting to write their own stories. “The civil unrest was a huge contributing factor in me kind of doubling down on my mission to elevate Black voices,” Taris said. She looked for partnerships, and she found space in the IDS building in downtown Minneapolis, tucked among other retailers in the Black-woman owned Sistah Co-op. The tiny Strive Bookstore struggled for foot traffic following its opening in the fall of 2021, but still, Taris saw an impact. “When Black people come in, they're like, ‘Wow, this is for us,'” she said. “And I even get more people who are inspired to write, you know, when they come into the bookstore, and just, it kind of feels like, the more I can do in the book space, the more our mission can come alive.” Working with the Minneapolis Downtown Council, she's about to open a second location in the historic Young Quinlan Building on Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is Saturday, June 2. The 4,000-square-foot space has gotten some pre-opening customer praise: “‘Oh, wow, this is so beautiful!' That's what I hear,” she said. Taris can't wait to use the space to celebrate authors and cross-cultural communication. Because whatever the path they take to get there, for booksellers, there's no better feeling than getting the right book into a reader's hands. Brown was one of the primary singers and songwriters for the alternative rock band Bourbon Tabernacle Choir in the 1980s and 1990s. When that band broke up, he continued performing as a duo with his Bourbon bandmate Kate Fenner. Brown has accompanied dozens of notable musicians on stage, including a six-month stint as a member of Barenaked Ladies in 1998 filling in for Kevin Hearn while Hearn battled leukemia. He is also a social justice activist and the founder of the Pros and Cons Program bringing recording arts to prisons and creating musical works for charities. The Pros and Cons Program has become internationally recognized as groundbreaking in fields of restorative justice and inmate mentorship, with the support of The David Rockefeller Fund. Brown recorded an album with the prisoners called Postcards from the County which Exclaim! described as "inescapably honest and sincere". Brown has recently launched Wolfe Island Records as a home for the prison music and the many artists he produces and collaborates with, including Fenner, Suzanne Jarvie, David Corley, One River, The Mermaids, Hadley McCall Thackston and the Stephen Stanley Band. In 2017 he released a new solo album Pacem. PopMatters premiered his first single, "Keeper of the Flame", and Huffington Post raved that "Pacem is one of those albums that works on the listener from the inside out." Brown currently lives in Wolfe Island where he tours solo and performs with local musicians in a band called Open Hearts Society. Catch Brown Hawkins Stanley on tour this spring! Hennepin County and the Met Council are in agreement that the Blue Line Extension light rail will go right up the gut of County Rd 81, but who else is in agreement? This story goes back decades to the Bottineau Boulevard Partnership, where all the cities on the line, Hennepin County, Target Corp, Olympus, North Memorial Hospital, and others all had a special club to get this project approved and built. One huge catch... the residents don't want it. It doesn't matter how much the people protest it, government knows better. They will push this through by hook or by crook (probably by crook). This has been a debacle since the beginning. The county spent millions of dollars to do impact studies, plan the project, and begin selling it to the public. They never talked to the BNSF railroad who was not willing to sell their line (ruh-roh). Maybe that should have come first. Needless to say, even that isn't enough to stop these knuckleheads. Oh no, because it is racist to not have light rail to connect affordable housing to work, never mind that most people don't live of work near a light rail line. It's time to give you an update on this dumpster fire of a project. We also talk some of the recent primaries that have captured our attention and Governor Walz's veto record. Have you checked out our Spotify playlist? At the beginning of each episode, Jason quotes some song lyrics that have to do with the subject matter of the podcast. A minute's drive from County Rd. 21 in the Elizabeth, Colo., Rambler Ranch is perched in a clearing of trees on the outskirts of the small town about 45 miles southeast of Denver. It's a secluded museum of Americana, a life's work for Terry Gale as a remembrance of family and the iconic automobiles of yesteryear. Gale, 60, didn't plan to own the world's largest collection of Nash, Rambler and AMC vehicles. But in 30-plus years he's cultivated an unequaled collection of the small vehicles originally produced inexpensively for the post World War II economy. A selection of vehicles in Rambler Ranch. A lot happened to the long-ago defunct vehicles and life has changed for Gale, too. He started with his father's 1954 Nash Ambassador and he spent years building his occupation with his deceased former partner Greg Kissinger. Rambler Ranch: Colorado's "hidden" museum The Weekly Driver Podcast recently traveled the museum en route to a writers' conference in Estes Park, Colo., and Gale is our guest on Episode #199. Co-host Bruce Aldrich is way this week, but I spent about 2 1/2 hours with the museum's proprietor. I was the only one visiting that day. The museum has appointment-only hours three days a week and it was closed. But Gale accommodated me. Row after row of Rambler and other vintage cars at Rambler Ranch. Gale, a Roger Maris-lookalike, suffers from neuropathy, so he often travels building-to-building on a segway. Besides his vast interest in Ramblers and other vehicles "no one else collects," Gale is a historian and aficionado of Americana. He collects vintage appliances and antiques. Memorabiliamand promotional materials cover the walls, floors and shelves. Mannequins are everywhere. There's a recreated old-style diner. It's where we talked after a tour of the expansive museum buildings. A "boneyard" of other Ramblers is used for parts is on a corner of the ranch and is its own museum. Gale likes new cars, too, with an enviable collection that includes McLaren, Tesla, Rolls-Royce, among others. Mostly, Gale's appreciation for what he does is infectious. Terry Gale's collection of Rambler and other vintage cars is unequaled. Please join me for a 30-minute conversation with the curator of one of the country's most impressive car and Americana museums. 12202020Bethany Worship Center 12160 County RD 132, Celina, TX, https://bethanyworshipcenter.comhttp://d85q.2.vu/1Faith - Trusting God4 1-3 So how do we fit what we know of Abraham, our first father in the faith, into this new way of looking at things? If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. But the story we’re given is a God-story, not an Abraham-story. What we read in Scripture is, “Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own.”4-5 If you’re a hard worker and do a good job, you deserve your pay; we don’t call your wages a gift. But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it’s something only God can do, and you trust him to do it—you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked—well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God. Sheer gift.6-9 David confirms this way of looking at it, saying that the one who trusts God to do the putting-everything-right without insisting on having a say in it is one fortunate man:Fortunate those whose crimes are carted off, whose sins are wiped clean from the slate.Fortunate the person against whom the Lord does not keep score.Do you think for a minute that this blessing is only pronounced over those of us who keep our religious ways and are circumcised? Or do you think it possible that the blessing could be given to those who never even heard of our ways, who were never brought up in the disciplines of God? We all agree, don’t we, that it was by embracing what God did for him that Abraham was declared fit before God?10-11 Now think: Was that declaration made before or after he was marked by the covenant rite of circumcision? That’s right, before he was marked. That means that he underwent circumcision as evidence and confirmation of what God had done long before to bring him into this acceptable standing with himself, an act of God he had embraced with his whole life.12 And it means further that Abraham is father of all people who embrace what God does for them while they are still on the “outs” with God, as yet unidentified as God’s, in an “uncircumcised” condition. It is precisely these people in this condition who are called “set right by God and with God”! Abraham is also, of course, father of those who have undergone the religious rite of circumcision not just because of the ritual but because they were willing to live in the risky faith-embrace of God’s action for them, the way Abraham lived long before he was marked by circumcision.13-15 That famous promise God gave Abraham—that he and his children would possess the earth—was not given because of something Abraham did or would do. It was based on God’s decision to put everything together for him, which Abraham then entered when he believed. If those who get what God gives them only get it by doing everything they are told to do and filling out all the right forms properly signed, that eliminates personal trust completely and turns the promise into an ironclad contract! That’s not a holy promise; that’s a business deal. A contract drawn up by a hard-nosed lawyer and with plenty of fine print only makes sure that you will never be able to collect. But if there is no contract in the first place, simply a promise—and God’s promise at that—you can’t break it.16 This is why the fulfillment of God’s promise depends entirely on trusting God and his way, and then simply embracing him and what he does. God’s promise arrives as pure gift. That’s the only way everyone can be sure to get in on it, those who keep the reli

Matt Oskamp and Amelia Campbell started Apple Falls Cider Company in 2017. The cider house is situated alongside the farm store at Campbell Orchards located in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Campbell Orchards is owned by Amelia’s parents Colin and Dianne Campbell. When Colin’s father died due to a plane crash, he took on the orchard that was started by his father. That was back in the late seventies when Colin was just in college. Today the orchard and farm stand is a testament of love and perseverance. There is a cider garden outdoors from the tasting room with ample seating at picnic tables. This is a family friendly scene where you can also stop and pick up a pie or meats on your way home from work.

The Boomers ramble on about how much tougher it was to be a kid when they were young. Virgil opens up the show about a lock that got busted open by some thugs. Then the senile grandfathers read a few fishing reports, weather updates, and exhaust the subject of tackleb8 (not really) Then they talk about tools; and when a boy receives his first hammer. Hawk Spearman is Apache and Cherokee Indian. Hawk began Bigfoot Research in 1999 while living on County Rd. 6 in Coshocton, Ohio where he found a large bi-pedal footprint on the hill above his home. After finding that first print Hawk was hooked. He furthered his knowledge by reading everything he could find on Bigfoot, and talked to people who had been in Bigfoot Research for years.
