Crystal Hefner, widow of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, has opened up about her life with the infamous tycoon. In 2008, psychology graduate Crystal Harris moved into the Playboy mansion as one of Hefner's live-in girlfriends. Within months, Crystal had advanced to becoming Hefner's third and final wife- he was 86, Crystal was 26. Several years after his death, Crystal has exposed the toxic, controlling and misogynistic environment she lived in through  her memoir Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself. She revealed to ZB's Francesca Rudkin that she was expected to follow Hefner's rules about appearance and behaviour- to the point where she had an evening curfew. "He wouldn't like it if we gained any weight, he would say- wear a more colourful shirt, wear the flag, which is the Playboy bunny logo, he would tell us what kind of nail polish to have, my roots couldn't be showing." At just twenty-one years old, Crystal Harris' life changed forever when she attended a party at the notorious Playboy mansion. Picked out of the crowd by Hugh Hefner, she became one of his infamous “girlfriends,” attending glamorous Hollywood parties and traveling the world. Yet this seemingly alluring lifestyle had a dark side. Hef controlled his girlfriends with strict rules regarding everything from their hair and makeup to their curfews, and Crystal was forced to compete with other women for her spot in the highly hierarchical system. Living at the mansion, she felt more like a fixture than a resident.   She quickly rose to the top, but being Hef's number-one girlfriend came at the cost of Crystal's identity outside her role in the Playboy universe. Her fate seemed sealed when Hef surprised her with a marriage proposal she could not imagine refusing. But as Crystal Hefner, she grew increasingly restless to understand who she truly was away from what she saw as Playboy's toxic culture. In her new book ONLY SAY GOOD THINGS, Crystal offers a vulnerable and clear-eyed look at how her experience with Hugh Hefner catalyzed her transformative journey from someone who prized external validation over all else to a person who finally recognizes her true worth. This candid memoir provides a fascinating look behind the scenes at a powerful cultural icon and brand and an equally empowering perspective on hard-won lessons about who we allow to determine our value. When she was 21 years old, then Crystal Harris, submitted her photo to attend a Halloween party at the Mansion and got the invite that would change her life forever.  Up until then, she had studied psychology at San Diego State and  done some modeling, but soon after meeting Hef she was whisked off into the "girlfriend" life of glamorous parties, reality TV and fame. A self proclaimed introvert, Crystal, had lost her dad an early age and had a string of bad relationships that made her new life seem fun and exciting at first, but it had a dark side.  She quickly became Hef's #1 Girlfriend and with a marriage proposal, that wasn't much of a proposal at all, Crystal lost her identity and felt trapped in a life out of her control. Missions are crucial in ministry.  We hope you enjoy this unique story of a partnership between a pastor and a missionary that started over 35 years ago and how a simple unscheduled meeting at a church in downtown Oklahoma City helped fuel a mission to spread the gospel on the other side of the globe for so many years. In this episode Crystal Harris, Amy Moffiet and Jamie Russell are joined by Linda McCarter, wife of the late Cal McCarter.  Cal and Linda started their mission known as Each One Feed One many years ago.  We will start from the beginning with Linda to hear her story of how she and Cal met, and bring it to current day and hear about the amazing campus in Tharaka, Kenya that now provides kids a healthy meals, quality education, clothing, medical care, and a Christian environment where the Gospel of Jesus is shared. We are also joined via phone by Jeff McCarter and will hear his story as he and his siblings grew up as a family of missionaries in Africa. We hope those that listen enjoy this story of missions and God's grace.   Words cannot describe how passionate Pastor Harris was about this mission, and I don't know that we will ever fully comprehend the pure drive and determination that Cal McCarter must have had to venture his family into this Faith Safari.

Legendary Leaders website: http://www.legendaryleaders.info  Legendary Leaders Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/leaders2legends Real Talk with Caleb  Discussion: Reaching Your Peak Performance  Opening thoughts: Reaching and maintain your peak performance requires a combination of passion, focus, commitment, patience, and perseverance which will ultimately lead to success in whatever you do.   “There are no secrets to success: Don't waste time looking for them. Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty to those for whom you work with and for, and persistence”. ~ General (ret) Colin Powell”  REACHING YOUR PEAK PERFORMANCE By…  • Keep an A+ Attitude  • Find a Mentor • Take on the tough jobs  • Be a lifelong learner  • Leave a great legacy  KEEP A + ATTITUDE: The overall attitude of the people and the atmosphere of your work center is generally a reflection of the attitude of its leadership. In order to perform your best, manage conflict, deal with adversity, and take care of your people you must develop, maintain, and exude a positive attitude…its contagious! You need an attitude of gratitude and as Crystal Harris would say, “Your attitude determines your altitude!”   FIND A MENTOR: Good mentors can provide you with the advice, guidance, candid feedback, and global perspective you need to progress personally and professionally. Choose wisely, only look for mentors that you trust, not the ones that are just where you want to be…  TAKE ON THE TOUGH JOBS (the ones that everyone else is running from or shirking): Tough assignments allow you to exercise your “leadership muscle” and sharpen your professional skills. You must have the courage and confidence to step up to any assignment that will challenge your leadership ability. These tough jobs often lead to positive results and recognition as well as create road-maps and confidence for future critical assignments.  BE A LIFELONG LEARNER: To operate at your peak performance you must be well versed in both the technical and professional aspects of your job. Read as much as you can about your primary duty requirements and become a student of leadership. I challenge you to read/listen to books watch videos, listen to podcast and etc... on leadership—gain insight on different tactics and procedures, because it will pay dividends for you in the long run! Reaching your peak performance is about the journey (check out BOOT leadership)…not the destination. Theoretically, you will never get to a point where you have learned enough so continue to seek knowledge and improve your capacity and value through education/experience. The opportunities to learn are limitless! Remember, this is not an instantaneous thing so don't waste time looking for the “quick fix” … embrace the journey / experiences!  LEAVE A LEGACY: Legacy begins with you and your passion to develop leaders. For your legacy to be valid you must pass the baton to those who are coming behind you, remember a legacy is left only when a leader/mentor prepares their follower / mentee to be successful in their absence and to ‘lead on'! As Chief CZ would say (here), “If you want to fly with the eagles, don't hang around with the turkeys!”. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/caleb-vaden/message

We have an inspiring episode this week with Crystal Harris, one of my oldest and dearest friends! Who can't use an extra dose of inspiration during these unusual times?! Crystal and I met when we were 15. I really don’t remember a ramp up time to our friendship. I have a vague memory of meeting and then I have consistent memories over the past 25 years that include her. Memories ranging from hanging out at each others house in high school to being her “fourth roommate in college” to actually living together in our early 20s to spending most of our 20s and early 30s single and carefree to sharing a recent FaceTime cocktail hour during this pandemic! But one memory I’ll never forget is receiving a call from a friend of hers on December 21, 2012 saying she’d been in an accident. My heart dropped and my mind raced as I waited to hear what had happened. “She’s going to be okay. She’s at the hospital” her friend said. Well that quelled the worst of my fears but she was in no way out of the woods. She spent the next three weeks in a burn care unit at SAMC (San Antonio Medical Center) recovering from third degree burns and skin graft surgery after falling backwards into a fire pit (she shares the full story in our interview). What most impressed me about her recovery was her ability to move through the emotional journey with grace. When things of this magnitude occur, some people emotionally crumble never to come out of that negative space. Others temporarily crumble before finding the strength to move through. Crystal never crumbled. She never fell into despair or depression over what occurred and the scars it left. She’s not once let this stop her from living her best life (and two of the best things in her life were yet to come when this accident occurred). Crystal has always been a bright light in the world but the fact she moved through her accident with such grace puts her in another category of shining lights…those who continue to shine, despite what life throws at them. Her story inspires us to minimize the trivial and to focus on the good in our life. It reminds us of the choice to move through our challenges with grace and gratitude, instead of resistance and frustration. It reminds us of our deeper soul nature, the place where qualities like grace, acceptance and love lives in us. All of which is extremely relevant to the current pandemic we're collectively experiencing. Join us in this powerful episode on moving through the unexpected with grace. Crystal Harris is here today to talk a little more about the loan application process. Check out the next Agent MastermindApply OnlineIn our last video, we talked to Evelyn about the beginning of the application process. This time, we’re here with Crystal Harris to dig into the process a little further.Crystal has been with us for a little over a year, and this is her first job in the mortgage industry. After Evelyn gets applications sent out to clients, Crystal is responsible for helping you through the application process, answering any and every question you have. After the application is in, she is the one who will follow up with you and request a whole lot of paperwork. Be prepared for us to ask for a lot of information. It’s not going to be an easy thing to do to track down everything we need, but it will be worth it. The process is vastly different and more complex than it used to be, but it’s worth it in the end. The hard work is worth it in the end. After all your questions have been answered and you get your paperwork in, Crystal will make an appointment for you with Kristin where you can go over everything in further detail. Most people don’t know what the application process is going to be like and that’s why Crystal enjoys helping our clients by answering their questions, letting them know what to expect, and calming any fears they have. If you are interested in getting a loan application started or if you just have any questions, give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you.
