With spooky season 2023 in the rear view mirror, Kevin and Chris turn their weary eyes to We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, the ignoble, ill-fated Spielberg produced—though not directed—dino toon flick. Starring John Goodman, Walter Kronkite, Julie Kavner, and Jay Leno among others, this movie lays bare the fact that, while a Picasso scribble on a cocktail napkin may be worth millions, a tossed off Spielberg idea without the man himself at the helm is not.
This week, Neil Bardhan joins us for The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving. It's like the first two movies, but more giving. Do you want spicy Dinosaur Kisses? Outtakes from Sync Points #10: We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story answering burning questions like: Do we remember how to start the show? Was The Matrix's Switch a southern belle? We're back... with We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story. The guys are joined by frequent guest Jason MacLeod, who talks about his severe distrust for pre-packaged opening logo title cards. This movie is all kinds of weird... so the fellas discuss the nutso premise, the left-field musical number, young characters that are way too sexed-up, Martin Short's improv work and much more. Emotional radios, “Brain Draining” powers, and a spectacular circus of fear... Oh lawd, it's about to get pretty dark! It's time to chow down on some brian grain and get weird with it in our episode on the second film from Amblin's animation house - Amblimation - the other 1993 dinosaur movie WE”RE BACK! A DINOSAUR'S STORY. With a script by JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO's John Patrick Shanley and multiple hands on the wheel, the final product needs to be seen to be believed, as our makeshift herd will attest. Join us as we welcome new guest, friend and fellow Warwick grad Lucy Ogilvie, and welcome back returning guest Jack Buckley to take the trip from the prehistoric era to early-90s New York City, as we roam the streets with Rex and pals and run away to the circus - now that's a notion with some spice! NOTE: We, unfortunately, lost a chunk of Mr. Buckley's audio, so if you're wondering why he goes quiet for a period that would be why. If you're looking for someone to blame, blame Stubbs the Clown. We can also confirm that Jack's fear that would emanate from the Fear Radio is Slack message related. When Dino-Mania was still rampant after the summer blockbuster smash of Jurassic Park, another dinosaur movie reared its head in time for the Thanksgiving holidays. This episode we discuss that film, and it comes in the form of animation. No, not The Land Before Time - it's We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story! How well does this hold up from what Paul remembers from his childhood? Is the film darker in tone than Jurassic Park? And does Sophie think it's on par with You Are Umasao?? Well, wouldn't you know it? Another season finale! Season six has been quite sickening if we don't say so ourselves but it wouldn't have been such a success without our wonderful guest stars–give it up for AJ and Jonne from D180 Podcast (A Dry Squeeze), Eric Thompson (Downward), Sasha Banks (Buggin') and Brandon Evans (Picky Eater)!!! We had so much fun and can't wait to add to our list of guest Critters in future episodes. For our season 6 finale, we basically do an episode of Everything Wrong With for a film from way back in Jared's memory banks: 1997's vicious lizard sci-fi horror Aberration. Everybody's a critic and our red pens were compulsory this time around as we tried to leave no scale unturned. Amblimation only ever made three animated films. And while Balto is fondly remembered by 90s kids and American Tail: Fievel Goes West is at least remembered by American Tail fans, the third film, the middle child of the quasi-trilogy, is rarely talked about anymore. Today we ask the question: is We're Back! forgotten to time because it deserves to be, or is this a hidden gem? Listen to find out! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/howsitholdup/support
This is a shorter episode this week, but is no less jam packed. This week, Austin and Brenda cover We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story, a 1993 animated movie produced by Steven Spielberg and animated by Amblimation. We're back with "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story", the 1993 animated movie about dinosaurs who are given human intelligence and dropped in modern New York City. The dinosaurs crash the Macy's parade, befriend a lonely greaser kid, and stop a scary circus. We discuss the brothers New Eyes and Screw Eyes, even more hot dog talk, the Thanksgiving setting, and how the movie Moonstruck did not involve any werewolves. Also, we spend probably too long talking about teeth in this episode, so if you have any kind of dental phobia, feel free to avoid minutes 5:30-9:54. Fonseca talks withCharles Fleischer American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and musician, best known for appearing in films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Polar Express, Rango, and We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story.[1] He also reprised the role of Roger Rabbit in the Roger Rabbit theatrical shorts. After beginning his career on the comedy club circuit, Charles Fleischer's first big break in comedy television came when he made an appearance on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Also the crew talk about everything Valentines Day. Cards, flowers, chocolate and sex! Then we look at the: Top Ten Comic Book Love couples! 1. Clark Kent and Lois Lane For many, the relationship between Lois and Clark is the comic book romance. They are perhaps the longest-lasting comic book couple, with Lois introduced alongside Superman in Action Comics #1. Though certain stories and timelines find Superman involved with Wonder Woman, history will always find Lois and Clark back in each other's arms. 2. Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon The origins of the Nightwing and Batgirl romance were first met with a lukewarm reception in the DC Comics universe, but sparks really began to fly in the late '90s in Batman: The Animated Series and later in various Batfamily stories. Their eternal “will they or won't they” flirtation peaked in Infinite Crisis with what has become one of the most memorable proposals in comic history. 3. Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy Peter Parker and Mary Jane are the more famous couple, but no one — save for Uncle Ben — has had more of a profound influence on the webslinger than Peter's first love, Gwen Stacy. Gwen was famously thrown off a bridge by the Green Goblin and Spider-Man was unable to save her. Her death sent waves through the whole Marvel universe, and continues to impact characters today. 4. The Joker and Harley Quinn No couple in comic book history is as dysfunctional and psychotic as Harley Quinn and the Joker. Created by Paul Dini for Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn was introduced as the Joker's sidekick and has skyrocketed to fame with fans since then. The fiery, often hateful union between them has captivated readers for years. 5. Scott Summers and Jean Grey The relationship between Scott Summers and Jean Grey is one of the mainstays of the X-Men storyline, dating back to the original run of The X-Men in 1963. Their love is a bright spot in the history of the mutants; even through marriage, divorce, death, resurrection, time travel and more, Scott and Jean always care deeply for one another. 6. Batman and Catwoman Throughout their history, Batman and Catwoman have always danced around a possible union. Though their goals aren't always in line with each other's, there is no denying the chemistry they share. Their complicated relationship has become a staple of the Batman universe, reappearing in nearly every timeline. 7. Hawkman and Hawkgirl Hawkman and Hawkgirl are the ultimate symbol of undying love. After the couple is cursed in Ancient Egypt with an alien dagger, they are destined to find and fall in love with each other in every reincarnation of their souls. 8. Reed Richards and Sue Storm One of Marvel's most famous couples, Reed Richards and Sue Storm represent the Silver Age of comic book romance: wholesome and devoted. Though their relationship has had its fair share of peaks and valleys, their trust and love for each other has never been broken — even when on opposite ideological sides in Marvel's Civil War. 9. Northstar and Kyle Jinadu Back in 1992, Marvel announced its first major gay character, Northstar. Twenty years later, Marvel made headlines by announcing his marriage to longtime partner Kyle Jinadu. In many ways, their union represents both the plight of the X-Men and the struggle many people face in the real world of not being accepted. 10. Green Arrow and Black Canary Green Arrow and Black Canary are opposites and perfect foils: Black Canary's calm determination balances Green Arrow's fiery temper. Though they certainly have had their problems, they always end up back together. They are a reminder that the right person can inspire us to be a better versions of ourselves.

[School of Movies 2016] On this sad, grim, dark week... here's a stupid movie about cartoon dinosaurs that get smart eating magic cereal! Obviously we'll get political and angry later on, but right now I think what everyone needs most of all is to laugh together, so here you go. This animated movie was released on Thanksgiving 1993, produced by Steven Spielberg, surfing the dinosaur craze of his own Jurassic Park, but actually put into production several years before and mismanaged the whole way. It's a higgledy-piggledy mess of half-thought-out ideas and pandering to kids that the meddling executives clearly see as adorable little morons. It's John Goodman's first voice role, it's confusing and cringe-worthy, sickeningly sweet and occasionally alarmingly horrific for no good reason. It has a song that will stick in your head and not a shred of logic in any of its 72 minute run-time. And this is one of the funniest shows we've done, so kick back, forget about how awful 2016 has been for a little while and let us take you back to a simpler time, 1993. Guests: Harrison Brockwell of Talk Film Society Brendan Agnew of Cinapse
