A new bill seeks to exempt National Guard and Reserve drill pay from federal income taxes. The No Tax on Drill Pay Act would eliminate taxes on income earned during Inactive Duty Training, which typically includes monthly drill weekends and other readiness training throughout the year. Congressman Andy Barr, who introduced the bill, said eliminating federal taxes on drill pay would reward the more than 800,000 Americans who serve in the Guard and Reserve. The bill follows several recent proposals aimed at making certain military pay tax-free. Last year, a group of lawmakers introduced legislation to exempt all military bonuses from federal income tax, while another proposal is seeking to fully exempt military compensation from federal income tax. A new bill would prevent federal retirees who survived domestic violence from needing to share personal details with their abusers during the retirement process. Currently, retired feds must get written consent from their current or former spouse if they update their retirement benefits; which can mean exposing personal contact information to abusers. But the “Federal Retirement Safety Act” sponsored by Congressman Joe Neguse would direct the Office of Personnel Management to waive the requirement for survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence. OPM already waives the requirement for people whose spouses have died or aren't able to be located.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This could be the most important shift in the housing market in years. Something truly remarkable just happened that will impact almost every facet of real estate. The “Housing for the 21st Century Act” just passed the House in a landslide vote, with bipartisan support from Democrats and Republicans. But unlike past housing proposals, this one focuses on the thing that could actually fix the housing market for good—supply. This could make building (and renovating) houses cheaper and faster, allow Americans to finance manufactured homes the same way we finance regular properties, expedite the permitting process for some new builds and rehabs, and give your local bank the ability to lend faster and easier than before. In short, this bill has a significant impact not only on everyday homeowners but also on real estate investors. The question is, will this fix the housing supply problem we've been plagued with? We're digging into the six sections of this bill in today's episode. In This Episode We Cover Why this new bill could be a monumental shift for the housing market Building just got even better—fewer permits, faster approvals, and more A huge win for affordable housing that could streamline cheaper homes for many Americans Will new supply kill appreciation? Why many investors are dead wrong about this Work with local banks? This new bill could be hugely advantageous for you Investors: do this now! -The backdrop to the SCAM Act is a Reuters report from last November. Meta reportedly estimated that up to 10 percent of its 2024 revenue came from scam ads. The company is said to have calculated that as much as $16 billion of its revenue that year was from scams, including "fraudulent e-commerce and investment schemes, illegal online casinos and the sale of banned medical products." -While it's true that X is the only major social network to make elements of its recommendation algorithm open source, researchers say that what the company has published doesn't offer the kind of transparency that would actually be useful for anyone trying to understand how X works in 2026. -As The Wall Street Journal recently reported, the AI industry has been hoovering up manufacturers' available memory chips and hard drives for its infrastructure developments. Weeds remained an evolving challenge for Wisconsin farmers. Jill Welke gets a recap from UW-Extension Weed Specialist, Dr. Rodrigo Werle. Werle's making his rounds statewide sharing what they learned this growing season. He says there were some breakthroughs this year that proved to be challenging. Those breakthroughs were weeds overcoming existing chemistry to keep growing. Werle says he's got a long list of projects to try and get grower answers for 2026. Above average temperatures will make a white Christmas unlikely in many areas of Wisconsin. Stu Muck explains what's acting as the catalyst for this late December warm-up. Time for another Mid-West Farm Report Ride-A-Long. An opportunity to accept invitations to find out about the latest technology and innovations Wisconsin farmers are evaluating and using. Today we travel to Malta, IL and the site of the Syngenta Seeds Research and Development Innovation Center. Pam Jahnke finds out about the length of time required to develop products like the new Durastak corn rootworm tool. Drew Showalter, Head, Corn Portfolio Strategy, tells Pam about the evolution of the product and why it's a game-changer for Wisconsin farmers. Paid for by Syngenta. On Friday Wisconsin animal health officials announced the genomic sequencing information gathered from the H5N1 positive herd in Dodge County. Pam Jahnke reports that the genotype was found to be D1.1, a spillover from wildlife into dairy cattle. This is new and no connected to previous detections that trace their strain to an outbreak in the Texas Panhandle. Wisconsin's seen no new dairy detections and continues to rigorously monitor dairies through the National Milk Testing Strategy. A new bipartisan bill introduced on Friday could provide hope for wedding barn operators in 2026. The bill LRB-2567 would roll back 2023 Act 73 that restricts venues to six alcohol-consuming events annually. Jean Bahn, operator of Farmview Event Center in rural Green Lake County says potential clients do not like having their event restricted. She says she's lost business because people want to be able to feature alcohol as a guests option. Bahn had previously filed suit against the state claiming Act 73 was unconstitutional and designed to put her out of business. When a court ruling went against her motion last month, this new bipartisan bill became a last ray of hope for retaining business in 2026.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this weeks cannabis news we have 5 stories to cover! Macky has a piece from The Independent tackling the old “you can't get addicted” claim that's been floating around for decades. Time to put the myth in the grinder and talk about what the evidence really shows. Billy follows up with UK Medical Cannabis Awareness Month, where campaigners, clinicians, and industry heads are finally pushing together to build momentum. Big names are talking, but whether anything moves in the UK… well, that's always the question. Margaret brings us a fun one from the research world: smell, not potency, is the best predictor of what people actually choose. Shocking absolutely no one who has ever stuck their nose in a jar and made a decision on instinct. Margaret also looks at Canada and a tourism wave that's waiting to explode, but only if regulators stop tripping over their own shoelaces. There's huge potential, but the rules need to grow up a bit first. And John wraps things up with an unexpected twist in the U.S.: a new GOP-backed bill that aims to reverse the hemp-derived THC ban Trump literally just signed into law. Yes, you read that correctly. A lively mix this week, science, politics, policy, tourism, and the usual roller-coaster logic that comes with trying to regulate a plant.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has introduced the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act, legislation aimed to repeal three provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that restricts homeowners choices of home appliances and stringent energy codes for new homes. The Biden administration's mandates for green energy wanted to end the use of gas appliances, forcing homeowners to switch to electric appliances. The new legislation is said to save new buyers over 30-thousand dollars on their home. FOX's Ryan Schmelz speaks with Rep. Craig Goldman (R-TX), author of the 'Homeowner Energy Freedom Act', who says news buyers should not be forced add more cost to their homes.
