By 1980, Judas Priest were ready to take on all the world! Fresh off their classic live album Unleashed In The East, Priest were ready to conquer America and the world with a more pop sound. Priest hit the charts with songs like Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law and offered new anthems to the teenage set with United and Metal Gods. But they stayed true to their heavy metal roots with songs like Rapid Fire and Steeler. Rob Halford shows off his chops and range on songs like The Rage as Ian Hill offers up a fun and memorable bass line. While we don't see much of the dueling solos between KK Downing and Glenn Tipton as would come to be familiar with on most of their 80s and latter day albums, they each show off their individual styles here while doing what's best for the songs. And the addition of Dave Holland on the drums solidified the classic 80s Priest lineup that would help them conquer the US and the world. They also forayed into making videos with the help of Julien Temple, much to the delight of Beavis & Butthead. This album helped propel Judas Priest and heavy metal onto a bigger stage and laid the foundation for the band's success in the 1980s and beyond. Finding volunteers has become like finding a needle in a haystack for many groups. Ian Hill knows all about it. Community events are something we hold near and dear in rural Wisconsin. Whether it's your town’s summer festival, a dairy breakfast, or a county fair. Those events can’t happen without people willing to give up their time, money, and energy to volunteer, but how do you recruit those people? This morning we’re talking to Ian Hill. He is the CEO of The Changing Point. He works with 500 fair boards across the country, including here in Wisconsin to help them build their volunteer team. Stephanie Hoff gets some details.Warmer weather's building over Wisconsin. That's the forecast with Stu Muck. Today, it's all about making sure that producers are on the same page with carbon marketers as far as jargon. Both agriculture and the carbon market world use a lot of unique phrases. Understanding what those phrases mean and how they can influence an agreement are critical for today's farmers looking at the financial opportunity the carbon market may present. Pam Jahnke talks to Cassandra Strupp, program manager for Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin about the program, and how the carbon market opportunities are advancing. John Heinberg, market advisor with Total Farm Marketing in West Bend joins Pam Jahnke. Have you seen the price of a steak lately? Heinberg says the latest cattle numbers available, and the fact that the U.S. is not allowing Mexican cattle to cross the border (screw worm) is compounding the issue. He also says it will take time for the much-talked-about egg market to rebound.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There's a lot of automation going on at the moment,” Hill noted.Western Society's DependencyHill warned of AI's subtle yet significant impact on Western societies, likening it to the industrial and agricultural revolutions but with a more profound effect due to AI's ability to replace cognitive tasks.“AI is different because AI is actually replacing our thinking, our creativity,” Hill cautioned, highlighting the potential for job displacement and challenges to human creativity and learning. The Drive for ProfitA recurring theme was the economic drivers behind AI advancements. They emphasized the need for rapid, machine-learning-based responses to evolving cyber threats, as traditional human-led security operations struggle to keep up.“You need machine learning, lightning-fast machine learning, to predict and react to events before the human even knows about it,” Hill stated, hinting at a future where automated systems dominate the cyber battlefield. The Trust DilemmaThe conversation turned philosophical as the speakers pondered the reliability of AI-generated content and the impact of deep fakes and misinformation. Hill addressed the issue of AI “hallucinations”—erroneous outputs—and the dangers of blindly trusting AI.“We're losing a sort of grip on reality… because it's becoming harder to distinguish between what's real and what isn't real,” Hill commented, expressing concerns about a future rife with misinformation.Concluding ThoughtsInfosecurity Europe 2024 highlighted AI's dual nature: its potential to revolutionize industries like healthcare and cybersecurity contrasted with its capacity to disrupt societal norms and personal authenticity. As Hill succinctly put it, “Those that own the AI, you know, OpenAI and all their sponsors, and what influence could be exerted on AI, political or otherwise, to bias… dangerous.”The dialogue underscored the need for evolving our understanding and ethical governance of AI to ensure these powerful tools enhance rather than undermine our societal fabric.Be sure to follow our Coverage Journey and subscribe to our podcasts!____________________________Follow our InfoSecurity Europe 2024 coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/infosecurity-europe-2024-infosec-london-cybersecurity-event-coverageOn YouTube:

In episode 281 UNP founder and curator Grant Scott is in his shed reflecting on the time it takes to find a visual language, how simple things are complex and the connections between the history of art and photography. Plus this week, photographer Ian Hill takes on the challenge of supplying Grant with an audio file no longer than 5 minutes in length in which he answer's the question ‘What Does Photography Mean to You?' Ian Hill is based in Cumbria, in the north-west of England, and works in black and white 35mm film. His work is led by an attempt to respond to what he sees as environmental crisis in terms of what he photographs, where he photographs, and how he photographs. This has led to an increasing focus on the local, the small-scale, the un-noticed hedgerow plants, gate latches, abandoned walls and sheepfolds. It has also led to changes in his technical approach as he now uses environmentally benign chemicals. He states that his work has helped him to re-define his photography, as he works on projects which speak more about the local, the need for nurture, and about our connection with the land. He has published three books of his work The Fisher King, Alchemy and Lineage. https://printedland.weebly.com Dr. Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, documentary filmmaker, BBC Radio contributor and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Routledge 2014), The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Routledge 2015), New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography (Routledge 2019). His film Do Not Bend: The Photographic Life of Bill Jay was first screened in 2018 www.donotbendfilm.com. He is the presenter of the A Photographic Life and In Search of Bill Jay podcasts. Coach Christian Vitale, the son of Gloria and Dominic Vitale, was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. The youngest of seven children and the only boy of six girls, Christian grew up in an abusive household where he was afraid to make a mistake in fear of the punishment that would follow. He focused his energy to escape the cycle of abuse that entrapped his father, by turning his attention towards sports and music. It was in sports were he felt at home, but it was the music that kept him going. Even while playing football and running track, he felt not wanted. Because of his small stature being only 5'5, he was told he was to small, not fast enough and would not be able to play. It was not until his freshman year when he met Ian Hill, his high school track coach, who would influence positive change in his life. Coach Hill showed Christian how to focus all his anger, sadness, and negative energy toward accomplishing his goals.Christian overcame incredible adversity. As a young boy, he was bullied and picked-on due to his size and learning disability which included dyslexia and comprehension problems. As a teenager, he battled a deep depression, and mentally lost hope in life and tried to commit suicide three times. Only after his third failed attempt, he realized someone or something bigger than him did not want him to take his life.Today Christian credits his successes to making the right choices at crucial times, his never give up or give in attitude and his refusal to take no for an answer. With all the adversity in Christian's life in 2011 he took on a challenge and enrolled himself at the University of Phoenix to complete a degree. Through his inspirational talks you will see how Christian overcame tough life experiences which consisted of: Child abuse, Depression, Bullying, Teen / Adult Suicide, Dyslexia, and other Learning disabilities. Learn the key components of Christian's success that is a testament that with hard work, passion, hunger and discipline (P.H.D), and a never give up attitude towards life anything can be achieved. One of the founding groups of heavy metal is Judas Priest, and their eighth studio album entitled Screaming for Vengeance would be their commercial breakthrough album for North America. In addition to the distincive vocals of Rob Halford, the Judas Priest lineup for this album included K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton on guitars, Ian Hill on bass, and Dave Holland on drums.Judas Priest was formed in 1969, but did not issue a record on a major label until 1977 and their third studio album. Their sixth studio album, British Steel, was the first to feature Dave Holland on drums and is considered their high water mark by most critics. However, Screaming for Vengeance would find both heavy metal and mainstream rock success Friends of the show Joe Davis and John Lynch join us for this album while Bruce and Brian are away. The HellionThe lead track to the album is this short instrumental that builds to Electric Eye.Electric EyeThis track follows The Hellion on the album and is often the leading song at Judas Priest concerts. The inspiration comes from George Orwell's 1984 - the electric eye is the camera that the totalitarian government uses to watch over all in the dystopian community. While not released as a single, this is a well known song played on rock stations at the time.Riding the WindA deeper cut, this is everything you would want in a metal song - fast drums, screaming guitars, and high vocals in a minor key. “Tearin' up through life million miles an hour! Blindin' all in sight, surgin' rush of power! Well I'm riding, riding on the wind.”You Got Another Thing ComingThe first single released from the album is now one of Judas Priest's signature songs. It reached number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it is the only Judas Priest song to make that chart. The song reflects the idea of taking life by the horns, and not letting anything stand between you and your dreams. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Raised on the Radio by the Ravyns (from the motion picture “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”)This movie came out in August of 1982, and would be a mainstay of midnight movies throughout the 80's. This song is the leading track from the motion picture soundtrack album.STAFF PICKS:Favourite Shirts by Haircut 100Rob's staff pick is also known as "Boy Meets Girl." Haircut 100 is one of the New Wave bands which was a part of the second British Invasion. It is a fast song with a conga feel. Everybody Wants You by Billy SquierFriend of the show Joe Davis features the lead track from Squier's album "Emotions In Motion." It hit number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent six weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The lyrics reflect the hazards of leaning on superficial looks.Eye of the Tiger by SurvivorFriend of the show John Lynch brings us the main theme from Rocky III." It was also the title song from their third album, and the single was released a day before the movie. Naturally it rapidly climbed the charts and was the number 1 song for the month of August 1982. Beyond Belief by Elvis CostelloWayne's staff pick is a deep cut off Costello's album "Imperial Bedroom." A very complex and multi-layered song, the lyrics are also quite clever. "Keep your finger on important issues/ with crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues." INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Nuevo York by SantanaSantana's distinctive Latin infused guitar licks take us out on this week's podcast.
Prior to Screaming for Vengeance, Judas Priest had solidified their stature as a heavy metal act around the world but not so much in the US. Though 1980's British Steel gave them some chart success in the UK & other parts of the world, big success in the States still eluded them. Thanks to You've Got Another Thing Comin', Priest was able to get on MTV and graduate to headlining arena shows in North America. We examine this heavy metal classic as it turns 40, the Wolf relives seeing them in the front row, how this record holds up today & the legacy of Judas Priest. Judas Priest had built up their reputation as one of metal's godfather bands with great 70's releases such as Stained Class, Sad Wings of Destiny, and Hellbent for Leather. They'd up the ante in the 1980's with an amazing run of albums and even more success.Singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glen Tipton and KK Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Dave Holland were an astounding group of musicians that would help shape hard rock and heavy metal for many future generations. We had a great time recording this episode and hope you will share YOUR Best & Worst of 80's Judas Priest in the comments below!
