S9E23 went out on the 4th of June 2026, LIVE from the TSORR Myoli Beach Studios in the Western Cape. It wasgreat to be back in the studio and cranking the volume again this week. It's also the beginning of my birth week, and I was celebrating myself hard! The Diabolical Challenge took us straight into blues-rock heaven with four absolute legends — all killer three-piece bands (guitar, bass, drums): Cream, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Rory Gallagher. Proper pioneers and some seriously fiery material that lit the place up. In the Immortals slot, we fired up Neil Young with the epic 'Crime in the City' (Sixty to Zero)”. We also had some fresh new releases, including Armored Saint and Brian Fallon, a few curveballs, and the usual favourites that just had to be played. Artists featured:Jørn, Joe Bonamassa, Mick Jagger, Brian Fallon, Armored Saint, Pat Travis, Wilson, Black Label Society, Cold Chisel, Judas Priest, The Stranglers, Rush, Motörhead, David Bowie, Tool, Steve Vai, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Interview - Liaan Horton, The Color Blew, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Neil Young, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Rory Gallagher, The Boomtown Rats, The Distillers, Piet Botha, ACDC, Tom Petty, The Uninvited, Airbourne, Parkway Drive. The Story of Rock and Roll. John Bush returns to Signals From Mars for Episode 460 to discuss Armored Saint in 2026, the new album Emotion Factory Reset, Punching The Sky, Dave Prichard, Jeff Duncan, Bob Nalbandian, Anthrax-era songs, Category 7, Metal Blade Records, touring, videos, songwriting, and the legacy of one of heavy metal's most respected voices.Victor and John dig into how Armored Saint balances classic heavy metal, hard rock, groove, melody, hooks, and modern production without losing the identity that has defined the band since March Of The Saint, Delirious Nomad, Raising Fear, Symbol Of Salvation, La Raza, Win Hands Down, Punching The Sky, and now Emotion Factory Reset. The conversation also explores the impact of Dave Prichard on Armored Saint's DNA, why Jeff Duncan deserves full recognition as part of the band's history, how technology changed music videos and recording, John revisiting his Anthrax material with Category 7, and what fans can expect from Armored Saint live in 2026.If you are a fan of John Bush, Armored Saint, Anthrax, Category 7, Metal Blade Records, classic heavy metal, hard rock interviews, metal podcasts, or deep conversations about music history, this episode is for you.Thank you to my Patrons for all of their supportSteven SailerSteve HoekerJeremy WeltmanMike JonesBrad DahlMark StriglGabriel RuizChris VaglioMetal DanJohan EderströmEd FergusonAnthony MackeyToni EspinSean RichmondYou can become a Patron for as little as $2 a month. It's always great to talk with John Bush, especially when his band Armored Saint drops a new album! Emotion Factory Reset dropped last week, and, as the kids would say, it's a banger! He tells me about certain songs on the album. One that was very emotional and personal from a family point of view. I did ask him about a couple that seemed to be aimed at a particular person. He also spoke about the reason the album is fairly short, clocking in at about 48 minutes. We talked about his career and if he'd change anything over the past 42 years. They have another monstrous tour coming up this fall with the guys from Metal Church. We discussed that and what else is coming up in 2026, including another gig where he will play his Anthrax era songs. Armored Saint's John Bush and Joey Vera join Loudwire Nights to celebrate the release of their ninth studio album, 'Emotion Factory Reset.'
Armored Saint guitarist Jeff Duncan pulls into the Krazy Train and Jasmin St. Claire is ready — because when one of heavy metal's most enduring bands drops a ninth studio album, you don't phone in the conversation. Emotion Factory Reset is out and Duncan breaks it all down — the writing process, the concept behind the new videos "Close To The Bone" and "Hit A Moonshot" including the real-life fighters who inspired it, and what it means for a band that has been together this long to still be making music that hits this hard. He gets into Armored Saint's legendary relationship with Metal Blade Records and founder Brian Slagel, why a brotherhood built in the early 80s Los Angeles metal scene is still standing when almost everything else from that era has fallen apart, and what playing the Rainbow Bar & Grill's 54th anniversary show felt like for a man who grew up on Black Sabbath, Kiss, Van Halen, and Judas Priest.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jeff DuncanOn the eve of new album, “Emotion Factory Reset,” Armored Saint guitarist Jeff Duncan joins us to discuss the band's new music and videos; the influence of Foghat; kind words from Blackie Lawless; and the joy of being schooled by Michael Schenker. He also tells us why sharing the stage with his brother (L.A. Guns drummer Shawn Duncan) at the Rainbow's 54th birthday bash was a full-circle moment for two “Hollywood dinosaurs.” armored saint emotion factory reset metal blade records odin la guns guitarist Foghat Blackie Lawless Michael Schenker Shawn Rainbow Hollywood dinosaursCreated and Produced by Jared Tuten
Season 20, Episode 49 of The Adventures of Pipeman. It's the Pipeman in the Pit weekly segment of The Adventures of Pipeman.Chapter 1: Carmine Appice and his reformed Cactus on behalf of the new blues rock album, Temple Of Blues II, that's due out April 3 via Cleopatra Records. Now the Temple opens again, this time for an all-star aggregation that recalls Ted Nugent, Billy Sheehan, Bumblefoot, Dee Snider and Pat Travers from volume one, alongside an all-new wave of heavy hitters including Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot), Alex Skolnick (Testament), and a whole lot more! And Temple Of Blues II takes us back to their birth. That summer, Cactus were among the main attractions at the Isle of Wight Festival in England, and the new album's “Purple Haze” reunites them with both another of that bill's audience favorites, Melanie, and its overall headliner, Jimi Hendrix.Elsewhere on this thunderous sequel, Pat Travers returns for the mighty “Moanin' At Midnight,” Joe Lynn Turner joins Morse, Carmine's Guitar Zeus bandmate Tony Franklin and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) for “Bad Stuff,” Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns) lead the way for “The Little Red Rooster,” and Ted Nugent and Bob Daisley (Rainbow) join forces for an astonishing “Spoonful.”Track List:1. Back Door Man Pt. 1 & 2 feat. Songs like “Close To The Bone,” “Hit A Moonshot,” and “Every Man-Any Man”The collaborative nature of Emotion Factory Reset led to the album title, a phrase from Phil Sandoval. “To me, ‘Emotion Factory Reset' means to reset yourself back to clarity. Take a pause and breathe before you respond or react. You can't control outside events, but you can control your mind,” the guitarist says. “How you interpret things is what hurts you, not the event itself.”ARMORED SAINT Presents “Hit A Moonshot” Video / Single From Emotion Factory Reset Full-LengthIn advance of the record's release, the band presents the first single and album opener, “Close To The Bone.” Comments Bush, “The first track on the record sounds like vintage ARMORED SAINT. Yet vintage that comes out in 2026! How did we do that? The title of the record, Emotion Factory Reset appears as the first line of the bridge. Killer riffs, awesome rhythms and attacking vocals gets this train rolling. The title implies the human response to withdraw and keep things to yourself instead of being confrontational; Something I believe we all struggle with as humans. Interview by Kris Peters“Each Armored Saint record, to me, is like a new skin for the band, a different chapter. I don't think we've ever repeated ourselves,” stated bassist Joey Vera. “Every album has been pretty different from the previous one, a snapshot in time. In 2026, Emotion Factory Reset is where our heads are at.”Emotion Factory Reset, Armored Saint's ninth full-length studio album since 1984's March of the Saint, bears out his words, the LP a resurrection of sorts, a tearing down and a rebuilding in 11 songs of diverse musicality and lyrical themes. Produced, as were the previous four albums, by Vera and mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour), Emotion Factory Reset finds the quintet challenging themselves. Songs like Close to the Bone, Hit a Moonshot and Every Man-Any Man has Saint honoring their past as one of the most respected and recognizable bands in heavy music while making forward-thinking music rooted in the present. As with 2020's Punching the Sky, Armored Saint are always about punching above their weight and succeeding. Emotion Factory Reset reaches further, both inward and outward. “I mean, there's never gonna be another Master of Puppets or Appetite for Destruction,” vocalist John Bush says. “We can all take inspiration from our previous records, but that was a different time. Armored Saint don't want to make another March of the Saint. I want to keep moving forward, but we know who we are, it's not like we're going to dish out the new trip hop, black metal, bluegrass album.”HEAVY sat down with Vera to dig deeper."You know, every time we make a record, I try not to think too much about that," he replied when asked to describe what the band were going for musically with the album. "Like what are we going to do? What kind of a record are we going to make? Or what direction are we going in? All that stuff. I don't like to really talk about it too much. Because for me, it puts on a little bit too much expectation; it puts like a boundary on it and I'd rather the playing field be able to just be wide open.So the only thing that I really was attempting to do this time was to write songs that were a little more concise in their arrangements and the song length. I have a tendency to write long songs; longer songs than normal. So I wanted to challenge myself and challenge the listeners along the way to see if I could write shorter songs, basically, for lack of a better explanation. Our goal is to really just challenge ourselves as songwriters and try not to make the same record twice. We're always trying to push the boundaries a little bit without alienating all our fans, of course. So there's a fine line between brilliance and stupidity (laughs), but there is a fine line between and paying homage to where we come from."In the full interview, Joey described the band's deliberate songwriting approach for this record, noting they intentionally wrote shorter, more concise arrangements while pushing stylistic boundaries and maintaining continuity with their past work. He explained the album balances influences from 1970s classic rock, early 1980s hard rock, and contemporary sounds to produce a fresh yet familiar record for longtime fans.Joey also described the album-title selection process, saying the title came from a line in the song Close to the Bone after the band considered many lyrical options before settling on Emotion Factory Reset. He reflected on the creative challenge of beginning a record, stating that starting the first songs is the hardest part and that inspiration requires sustained effort and patience, the early days of the band and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
- Nye bands med nye tilgange til (hård) rockmusik: The Smashing Pumpkins, Mudhoney og Temple of the Dog. “If I hadn't have known that was Anthrax, I would have guessed it was Alice In Chains…” The early 90's was a strange time for metal, most notably due to the change in the musical landscape with the emergence of the Seattle scene and Alice In Chains becoming one of the key crossover bands to bridge the transition from thrash to the next wave of darker, grungier sounding heavy metal. “Every time you do that, I have a less chance of getting laid…” While ANTHRAX began the 90's with a much darker and angrier sound on Persistence of Time, the darkness and heaviness of their sound would become further amplified with the departure of Joey Belladonna and the addition of JOHN BUSH (formerly of Armored Saint) on vocals, resulting in a new era of Anthrax: BUSHTHRAX! With more grit and heft in the vocals than before, the JOHN BUSH ERA of ANTHRAX is definitely a different flavor than the band's output throughout the 80's with Joey Belladonna, and with the changing of the guard in the early 90's due to the growing popularity of the Seattle sound, the time was right for a slight alteration to the thrashier sounds of 80's era ThrashThrax, resulting in the darker, more aggressive BUSHTHRAX era that would follow for the next decade or so. “Alright, well it's not like we've never done that for you before…” Always remember that “springtime LSD is the best time for LSD” and that “it's not as fun for me when I push away”. Realize that “girls with Doc Martens are kinda cute (except for when they wear ‘patrouli')” and imagine what it'd be like “if we bled out of our dicks for a week” when you JOIN US for some 90's era ANTHRAX featuring JOHN BUSH, aka BUSHTHRAX!!! Two outstanding singers, one mediocre podcast!John Bush is one of my favorite singers in metal. His Anthrax albums ruled, and he's so good live with Armored Saint. He's doing three shows playing his Anthrax material in Chicago, L.A., and New York. We talk about what made him decide to book these shows and bring this music to the people. John had some funny stories of the Metallica/ W.A.S.P. tour they did in 1985. He also to me about new Armored Saint music coming in 2026. John's a great dude and very talented!Brian Vander Ark wraps up this episode. He's doing a storytelling show with three other artists from the 90s coming to District 142 on December 12th. This sounds like it could be a great night! I don't think I've ever interviewed Brian before, but man, is he funny! He told me the funniest story of touring with KISS. We talked about the living room shows he's played over the years. As well as his part in the movie Rockstar, and how he got one of his songs featured in the film. Oh, how often do they get confused with the band The Verve? That's hysterical! Thanks for listening!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

"Wait For Fire Burning" Formed in Oakland in 1985, Legal Reins were comprised of singer/guitarist Danny Benatar, bassist Eden Unger and drummer Tim Freund. They tore up the Bay Area scene, playing show after show and cementing themselves as one of the best live bands around. This is a band who did the work, got in the reps and eclipsed the Gladwellian idea of 10,000 hours. Opening for everyone from Madness to Killing Joke, Legal Reins proved themselves time and again that they could step on any stage and match anyone in terms of power and heart. Their exhilarating blend of sweeping pop epics and punchy hook laden rock and roll brought to mind everyone from The Sound to Echo and the Bunnymen to the Waterboys. After a bit of a bidding war, they signed to Arista in 1987, put out their debut album Please, The Pleasure soon after and then? Well, then things turned the other way. I'm going to let Tim tell you the story, but let me say this: In 1986 I was the music director of KVHS, an all-metal station located conveniently on my high school campus. I was in the habit of sneaking in The Smiths and The Chameleons in between Accept and Venom just to see if anyone noticed--they did, by the way. It was slightly terrifying to be 16 and getting death threats for not playing King Diamond, but I digress. Legal Reins called me up and they were very kind and I loved their music and one time I played them in between Y&T and Armored Saint and this one guy called up and said, very aggressively, Who was that you played after Y&T? I told him Legal Reins and he was quiet for second and then he said, That was pretty good...
