Dave Paulsen, the current head coach for Holy Cross men's basketball team, joins this week's episode of @Notevend2 . Coach Paulsen has been coaching since the late 80's and has a ton of knowledge that he gives throughout the episode. Paulsen played basketball for @WilliamsCollege and would later lead Williams to the programs first, and only, National Championship. Paulsen finished his career coaching the Ephs with a 170-53 record- giving him the 2nd most wins in Williams basketball history. After a successful career at Williams, Paulsen moved on to coach at Bucknell University. In his first head coaching role at the Division 1 level, coach Paulsen won three Patriot League Coach of the Year awards ('11, '12 & '15). Under Paulsen, Bucknell became the first Patriot League team to win three consecutive regular season titles. Paulsen currently holds the highest winning percentage in Bucknell history (.588). A big part to Bucknell's success was the addition of future NBA player, Mike Muscala. Muscala was a two-time Patriot League POTY while competing against future NBA all-star CJ McCollum. Coach Paulsen left Bucknell after seven seasons (2008-15) to coach at George Mason University and Fordham University. Paulsen coached plenty of players that would eventually become successful professional players, including Tyler Kolek. In 2023, Paulsen took the head coaching job at Holy Cross; in his second year leading the Crusaders, he's led the program to wins over high major programs, and the teams first conference tournament win since 2019. The Crusaders are currently 5-4 with 4 more games until Patriot League play begins. Hear about Paulsen's 28-year successful career, his experience coaching future NBA players, and what went into the dominance his teams had at Williams and Bucknell. Oh, hi there, boys and girls. It's Week 11 of the college football season. Carla's voice is just about gone and Crappy is distracted (for the first time this year) by midweek MACtion and his Ohio Bobcats. So, yeah … just your normal week around these parts. Before we get into some interesting stuff coming up this weekend, we look back at some fun results from last week. Clemson had an improbable win. Texas and Ohio State won … but not prettily. Arizona (now CFP ranked) continues to be the team that absolutely no one in the Pac-12 wants to play. LSU really needs a healthy Jayden Daniels. And Bedlam actually was bedlam. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great weekend for our Cornell Big Red Bears, but they have a chance to rebound this Saturday at Dartmouth (1:30 ET, ESPN+).  AJ fills us in on all of the goodness that is late-season #GroupOfFiveAfterDark (and yes, there are some really good matchups on that slate this week), and then we get into this weekend's intrigue, including a massive game that even has Crappy seeing blue (and white). No. 18 Utah at No. 5 Washington (3:30 ET, FOX): That Utah defense is spectacular against the run. Unfortunately, Michael Penix Jr. likes to throw the football. A lot. No. 13 Tennessee at No. 14 Missouri (3:30 ET, CBS): Too close to call? Kinda. Mizzou's been oh-so-close a couple of times this year. Is this the game they get over the hump? No. 9 Ole Miss at No. 2 Georgia (7 ET, ESPN): This might be Georgia's biggest test of the season … before facing Bama in the conference title game, that is.  No. 3 Michigan at No. 10 Penn State (Huge Nude, FOX): Yep. Doing this game out of sequential order because it's that important. Carla's hyper-focused on the Penn State secondary, while Crappy is hoping he doesn't have to figure out the math on a three-way tiebreaker atop the B1G East. Carla gives an honorable mention to West Virginia at No. 17 Oklahoma (7 ET, FOX) because the Sooners are reeling, while USC at No. 6 Oregon (10:30 ET, FOX) should be silly fun if you can stay awake. Also, FIU at MTSU (3:30 ET, ESPN+) is worth noting because our beloved Blue Raiders need a win. Crappy is obviously paying attention to Michigan State at No. 1 Ohio State (7:30 ET, NBC), but mostly because of the Bucks' sweet gray unis.  We close the show with an ode to the Biggest Little Game in America, the DIII rivalry between the Amherst Mammoths and the Williams Ephs that's been played since 1884. Former Draft Day Suit (the original home for this show) editor Kim Daboo is an alum of Williams, and our former colleague Chuck Curti, now of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, had a great article this week about two Pittsburgh-area brothers playing in the game. It's just one of the many reasons we love college football. (Also, go Ephs!) And with that … Carla's going to rest her voice and Crappy's going to root his Bobcats to (spoiler alert!) a win. We'll be back here next week for more as we start nearing the end of the 2023 season. (Can you believe it?) Cheers, yinz.

Ahead of a busy weekend of college and high school football games in New England, Matt Noonan shares some thoughts on various matchups to watch, as well as which teams fans of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) should keep their eyes on this fall. (2:25): NESCAC Football Thoughts -- can Williams repeat or will Trinity and Wesleyan challenge the Ephs for the top spot? (13:08): Curry and Dean both seek their first win of the 2022 season -- a win for either squad would be the first for Coach Parsons (Curry) and Coach Murphy (Dean). (15:22): Can Anna Maria College win its second-straight contest of the 2022 season? (16:20): MASCAC conference play begins with some important matchups: Bridgewater State at Plymouth State and Framingham State at UMass Dartmouth. (18:20): Union visits Springfield College in an important non-league tilt.

Harry Sheehy is a retired athletic administrator and former coach who led Williams College (MA) to 17 Division III national team championships during his 10 years as the college's Chair and Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. He also served as Dartmouth College's Director of Athletics and Recreation for nearly 11 years. During each year of Sheehy's decade guiding the Williams athletics department, the Ephs won the NCAA Division III Directors' Cup, given to the athletics program (out of more than 400 Division III colleges) that achieves the greatest success over a variety of 18 sports. He oversaw 35 NCAA Division I varsity sports at Dartmouth, a member of the Ivy League- 16 men's, 17 women's and two coed- as well as 35 club sports and an extensive intramural program. He also oversaw physical education courses, the Fitness and Lifestyle Improvement Program (FLIP), and recreational activities serving about 1,500 individuals a day. Sheehy was the head men's basketball coach for the Ephs for 17 years, compiling a record of 324-104 (.757) which is the fourth best winning percentage in the history of Division III men's basketball. Williams made 13 appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament under Sheehy's tutelage, including his last 12 seasons. In 1997 and 1998, the Ephs played in the Division III Final Four, finishing third nationally in both years. He finished his coaching career with eight straight 20-win seasons and the 2000 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title. During his coaching career, Sheehy was named the Northeast Coach of the Year (1997, 1998), the Eastern Basketball Magazine Coach of the Year (1998) and the NESCAC Coach of the Year (2000). In 2002, he was elected to be in the inaugural class of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, joining others such as Bob Cousy, Patrick Ewing, Julius Erving, Jim Calhoun, and Geno Auriemma. Before his coaching and administrative career, he was a basketball All-American at Williams where he became the program's all-time leading scorer. He then played eight years with Athletes in Action and finished his career as the team's leading career scorer and fifth in career assists. Sheehy represented the United States in the 1978 Pan American Confederation Games as the U.S. won the gold medal in Argentina. His 2002 book, “Raising a Team Player,” has received critical acclaim: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1580174477/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_TVZ2XZ28EZW6BGKNK8A6 He is married to Constance Durrell Sheehy. It's Week 11 of the college football season, and the games are getting bigger and bigger -- even the littlest of them. To help us navigate one of the best little rivalries, we welcome back Kim Daboo, a #CnCShow veteran who holds a degree from Oregon but was nice enough not to hold that over Crappy's head. But Kim did manage to set off Crappy's college football anxieties almost immediately by bringing up Ohio State's Week 11 opponent: the Purdue Spoilermakers. Commence flashbacks to 2018 in West Lafayette.   AJ takes us through what is a defacto #BakedGoods weekend in the G5 and delivers a fun fact about Boise State and oddly covered football fields. Crappy is still basking the glow of a Cornell win at Penn and he's hoping against hope for another when the Big Red travels to Dartmouth.   And then? The main events: No. 8 Oklahoma at No. 13 Baylor (Big Nude Saturday, Fox) As they considered this year's schedule back in August, the Sooners probably considered this to be a tune-up game on the way to Bedlam. Funny thing, though -- Baylor turned out to be really good.   No. 6 Michigan at Penn State (Noon Saturday, ABC) James Franklin doesn't have as many baffling coaching tendencies as Jimmy Harbaugh, but he does have his moments. If he keeps his headscratchers off the field on Saturday -- and if Penn State gets the home field support it generally does -- this could be a Penn State win.   No. 16 NC State at No. 12 Wake Forest (7:30 p.m. Saturday, ACCN) Looking for defense? Look elsewhere. With an AJ Fun Index of 66.5, this game will be all about entertainment -- oh, and for a seat at the top of the ACC Atlantic.   Williams at Amherst, (Noon Saturday, find a stream at the Williams Athletics site) Finally, we turn to the Biggest Little Game in America. Kim, a proud Williams alum, takes us through the rivalry, its origins and its traditions. And Crappy speaks from experience when he says there is little better than beating your rival to clinch a championship -- and that's what we're expecting from the 8-0 Ephs (please don't pronounce that the way Crappy did, OK?)   We wrap the show by going back to the days before #CnCShow existed, when we -- Carla, Crappy and Kim -- were contributors to the late, great Draft Day Suit sports blog. This show began as an offshoot of the occasional grainy, buggy Google + Hangouts to predict NFL games, and Kim was there from the beginning, along with DDS founders/leaders Sarah Bockneck Braesch and Laurie White. We'll forever be grateful that we had a platform at Draft Day Suit to get this endeavor started, with the full support of Sarah and Laurie. And Crappy will never, ever tire of reminding Sarah of the time he told her that a rookie named Russell Wilson would be a better NFL quarterback than RGIII. So thanks to Sarah, Laurie, Kim and all of the other DDS staffers -- and thanks to you guys once again. Enjoy the games this weekend.
