Hiring a doula for your birth is, quite simply, a great idea. They're non-clinical, cost-effective, and, as many mothers will attest, one of the most valuable parts of the experience - a value that is supported by data. The decision to have one should be pretty easy. But actually crafting policy that captures that value is hard. Today on ParentData, we're welcoming New York State Senator Samra Brouk, who is doing just that. Senator Brouk spearheaded an effort in New York to get doula services covered by Medicaid (which they now are, as of January 2024!). She explains her love of data, why doulas are important for maternal health - especially for Black women - and how to convince your older, perhaps non-doula-using colleagues that these issues matter. Subscribe to ParentData.org for free access to new articles every week on data-driven pregnancy and parenting.
Strana TOP 09 dostává v preferencích procenta na hranici volitelnosti, což jejího poslance Ondřeje Koláře viditelně neznepokojuje. „Je to skvělá motivace, abychom zamakali,“ odpovídá lehkým tónem. Není ale opravdu TOP 09 v krizi a kdo všechno uvažuje o spojení všech tří koaličních stran do jedné? Proč nazývá Andreje Babiše broukem Pytlíkem a bylo správné nedat Miroslava Kalouska na kandidátku do Evropského parlamentu? Jaké má důvody pro svoji vlastní kandidaturu? I o těchto tématech mluví v pořadu PoliTalk.Celý díl si můžete přehrát také na videu na serveru Novinky.cz

Bílá labuť přivítala své první zákazníky 18. března 1939. Spolumajitel sítě obchodních domů Brouk a Babka Jaroslav Brouk ji nechal postavit na místě, kde stával původně hostinec a pivovar. Starou zástavbu nahradila moderní funkcionalistická stavba architektů Josefa Kittricha a Josefa Hrubého, interiéry navrhl Jan Gillar. Vytvořili největší a nejmodernější obchodní dům ve střední a východní Evropě. Two years ago, Myanmar's military seized power in a coup. It was a major setback for the country, which had begun to slowly move toward democracy and free elections after decades of military rule. For other countries and organizations like the United Nations – the coup raised some big, and still open, questions about whether and how to interact with the military junta, particularly amid efforts to hold Myanmar's leaders accountable for grave crimes, including acts of genocide, against the Rohingya and other ethnic groups. The junta has announced that it plans to hold “elections” in August, but most experts believe that free and fair elections are impossible under current conditions, and that the elections are merely an effort by the military to deepen its control over the country. On the two-year anniversary of the coup, we speak with Akila Radhakrishnan and Angela Mudukuti from the Global Justice Center, a nonprofit organization that advances gender equity and human rights. Global Justice Center has worked closely with organizations in Myanmar since 2005. Akila is Global Justice Center's President and an expert on the role that gender plays in genocide. Angela Mudukuti, is a Zimbabwean lawyer and the Senior Legal Adviser at the Global Justice Center. She has worked for a number of organizations including the International Criminal Court (ICC) and her experience includes working on universal jurisdiction and precedent-setting cases before South African courts including seeking the arrest of the former president of Sudan during his visit to South Africa.Show Notes Akila Radhakrishnan (@akilaGJC)Angela Mudukuti (@AngelaMudukuti)14:25 Global Justice Center and BROUK's recommendations to the Argentinian judiciary in a case brought against Myanmar military leaders for the genocide of the Rohingya21:15 NYU's American Journalism Online Program21:45 Just Security's Beyond the Myanmar Coup seriesMusic: “The Parade” by “Hey Pluto!” from Uppbeat: https://uppbeat.io/t/hey-pluto/the-parade (License code: 36B6ODD7Y6ODZ3BX)

Dům na hranici pouštního národního parku Joshua Tree, který si nechala postavit manželská dvojice amerických výtvarníků Jay a Bev Doolittlovi, je vrcholným dílem a zároveň testamentem málo známého představitele americké organické architektury minulého století Kendricka Bangse Kelloga. Měl jsem možnost zdokumentovat několik jeho pozoruhodných staveb, které posouvají koncepci organické architektury Franka Lloyda Wrighta ještě do odvážnějších sochařských forem.

This week on Transmissions, we're digging into the Aquarium Drunkard vault for a 2016 conversation with the late New Age pioneer, composer, author and creator Joanna Brouk. An edited and condensed version of this conversation was published in 2016, but we are happy to present it here in its uncut form. Brouk passed away April 28th, 2017. Her remarkable recordings can be heard on Numero Group’s Hearing Music, a double lp set assembled by producer Douglas Mcgowan, who's known for his work on Light in the Attic’s New Age compilation I Am the Center, which also features Brouk. An alum of Mills College—which recently announced it will no longer be accepting new pupils—she joined us to discuss her time at the legendary synthesizer school, her roots in sound poetry, KPFA radio program, and much more.

Living your Big, Daring, and Sparkly Life with Tricia Brouk How many times has your life been interrupted? Many of us plan how life is going to go – in our heads – and when things don’t turn out the way we anticipate, we get stuck or stumped. That’s an interruption. And as frustrating as it may seem, it’s something we all experience. Instead of allowing yourself to get totally thrown off base, in FLAUNT! I talk about the power of Navigating the Negative, or as Tricia Brouk says, just keep the story going. After all, our life is our story, and the story must go on. While it’s okay to feel sad and to allow yourself the grace and space to mourn or to be thrown off base temporarily, Brouk is adamant that we must move on and keep our story moving. As she points out, our lives would be pretty sanitized and boring if there were zero bumps in our road! Episode Overview: How to create the WOW factor when introducing yourself Confidence tips in how to engage new people Common speaker mistakes What makes a great speaker How to connect with a speaker after a big talk And so much more If you are clearly yourself and not who you think they want you to be; you will be authentic. They will trust you and there will be so many connections where people will introduce themselves. Confidence tips in how to engage new people Practice communicating to people Create a scenario of mild stress - practicing in front of the mirror won't work because your body will betray you. You will get butterflies in your stomach, you will get sweaty palms or dry lips but if you practice under mild stress, you will know what to do when you have butterflies in your stomach. Practice the art of asking people about themselves. When you are an active listener, people will remember you far more than if it is only about you. Best tips on how to engage with the speakers after their speeches As a speaker, you must prepare of the "after party". People will come ask you questions or come to you to get your energy and ideas. So make sure your energy stays up. Make sure that you stay engage with your audience. If you are someone who wanted to talk to the speaker, find out who is the speaker's assistant is and email the assistant so that your email or message will go directly to the speaker. This is because most speakers are really tired and won't remember every conversation that he or she had after the event. How to look for a speaker: What Tricia looks for in a speaker is the idea. If the idea moves her and she thinks that the world needs to hear about it, then she will move to the next phase which is knowing who this person is whether they are aligned in their lives and in their business idea, are they willing to talk about it and finding out if they are good human beings.
