Diagonal Spreads are one of our favorite low implied volatility strategies. They allow us to not only play a directional bias in a given stock, but also benefit from the simple passage of time, much like we do with a standard short premium trade. Still, as we see in today's show, Diagonal Spreads rarely set up for high-priced stocks, as the cost of the strategy is often far too great relative to its profit potential.

Options 101: Calendar & Diagonals This strategy combines a longer-term bullish outlook with a near-term neutral/bearish outlook. Variations? Profit/Loss and breakeven Volatility, time decay and assessment risk Calendars vs Diagonals - when should you use one over the other? Using long dalendars during earnings The Buzz: What news do informed advisors need to know? OCC cleared contract volume increased 8% in May. Google search data reveals options trading search interest is roughly half of what it was in 2004. Office Hours: Listeners weigh in Options question of the week: Google Trends is full of interesting, and surprising, data. When you analyze the "options" search data you uncover some surprising results. Which brings us to this week's question: Which "sub region" is currently ranked 1 for overall "options" interest by Google? Illinois California New York Maine Listener questions and comments Comment from TMal - So I have this exact thing going on right now, put diagonal with different futures underlying. 90-day difference, the Vegas act totally different, throw some futures spread risk in there, hard to quantify exactly what's causing the changes in the P/L, futures spread? Vol spread? Net deltas? Net thetas? It's complicated stuff. Nuances indeed holy cow. Plant the seed and let it grow naturally. Comment from AKeats - Just discovered the radio show, and I am absolutely hooked! Great content! Question from Brad K. - I'm learning a lot from you guys - particularly about the value of hedging. I also took your advice and switched to an advisor who uses options much more actively. Now I'm starting to spread my wings to the commodities particularly crude oil. I want to hedge my oil exposure with WTI options. Does the Swan DRS on crude use WTI or USO options? Also I would please like to know the panel's thoughts on trading options on commodities vs. equities. Any major differences I should be aware of? Thanks again and please keep the education coming our way.

Question from Bulzeye7 - Are options worth it for day-traders? Or just for swing-traders? Question from Axel D - What does open interest only update once a day? Question from Mary - What is the shortest expiry available for plain vanilla options? Question from Lincan - ;My go to options strat is to sell covered puts on stocks that I want to buy then get paid to wait. If the stock comes my way I eventually trade out of it using a covered call. Options Bootcamp 29: Diagonals Basic Training: Trading Diagonals What is a diagonal? Why would you put it on? What adjustments need to be made? How is it performed? How does it differ from a typical horizontal calendar spread? Why would you use a calendar vs. a horizontal spread? How do the greeks differ? How do you choose the strikes? Mail Call: Fall in, recruits! Question from Richard D: I think a whole boot camp show on skew could be very helpful! Thanks! Question from Hawkeye6: Love the pair of calendar spread shows. Can you make it a hat trick and have a show on double diagonals and double calendars? I am especially interested in hearing about selection criteria -- what makes a good candidate, criteria for strike selection, when to pick DD/DC vs. Condor/Iron Condor, etc.

Options Bootcamp 6: Complex Spreads Basic Training: Today we're going to dive into complex spreads. What are complex spreads? We're usually talking multi-leg spreads. Calendars are when you buy and sell a call/put at the same strike price, but in a different month. Diagonals, a combination of a vertical and horizontal spread, can be a proxy to a covered call. The concept of the ratio, 1-to-1 on a simple spread, but you can play with the ratio. A stock repair strategy using diagonals, ratio risk reversals and collars. Roll Call: Mark and Dan sit down with Craig Pinkston, Senior Director of Operations at Zecco. Mail Call: Does the Theta decay occur just at open/close or is it a gradual decay throughout the day?
