Tune in as the program keeps the holiday season rolling onward for the second week of December! This time around, filmmaker friend Robyn Zabukovec (https://twitter.com/thefinalgirly?s=21) hops back into her guest seat for a breakdown of Better Watch Out, the 2016 Christmas horror-comedy that follows a 17-year-old babysitter and a couple adolescent boys as they try to fend off a home invasion during Christmastime. An arachnophobic actor summoning up the guts to work with real huntsman spiders on set, a PSA against drunk driving, and a thematic correlation that this movie may share with Adventure Time comprise some of the talking points for this episode. Directed by Chris Peckover, Better Watch Out stars Olivia DeJonge, Levi Miller, Ed Oxenbould, Aleks Mikic, Dacre Montgomery, Virginia Madsen, and Patrick Warburton. Director Samuel Van Grinsven returns to our screens with his sophomore feature film, Went Up the Hill, a powerful drama about an abandoned child, Jack (Dacre Montgomery), attending the wake of a mother he never knew, and encountering her grieving widow, Jill (Vicky Krieps). As Jack and Jill navigate the fractured existence they find themselves in, Elizabeth's spirit emerges in curious and strange ways by possessing each character, resulting in a narrative that flows into the realm of being a possession drama, while never truly immersing itself in the genre expectations that one might have when they hear that this a film with a 'grief driven possession narrative'. Like Samuel's first film, Sequin in a Blue Room, there's an unexpected nature to Went Up the Hill which comes from a foundational level, and is realised in the films sound design, its choice of location - a remote farm in Aotearoa/New Zealand - and the notion that this is a triple hander film delivered by two powerful, impactful performances from Dacre and Vicky. There's an emotional vulnerability to the film that reveals itself as it progresses in a way that feels real and lived-in. How that emotional vulnerability was achieved is what's explored and discussed in the following conversation with Dacre Montgomery, recorded ahead of the films Australian premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival on Saturday 26 October, where Dacre will be in attendance, and Sunday 3 November. In the following interview, Dacre talk about his studies at WAAPA, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, before discussing the tangible aspects of his performance that helped Vicky and himself ground their characters in the moment, while also being able to immerse themselves in the role of Elizabeth as she possesses their characters. Went Up the Hill is another towering achievement of emotional filmmaking from Samuel Van Grinsven, a filmmaker who is defiantly making his mark on global cinema with stories that feel deeply personal, yet completely universal at the same time. The film stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G & Ludi Lin as the titular characters while Elizabeth Banks, Bill Hader & Bryan Cranston play other characters from the series. The film centers around 5 teenagers in the small town of Angel Grove who find mysterious coins in old mine. These coins are powerful relics of a team of heroes that thought to have died long ago but the coins have chosen these teenagers to protect the world by granted powers beyond their wildest dreams. While the movie underperformed at the box office, it still garnered a following from fans of the original series and is available now on Prime Video.

As for the adults, Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are thankfully reunited with the help of Murray (Brett Gelman). Now they just need to get back to the States safely. But with all the good guys come some bad guys, and they don't come much worse than Jamie Campbell Bower, aka 001, aka Vecna. The ultra-powerful supposed guard is actually highly bonded to Eleven, only with far more violent tendencies. He now feasts on those with trauma and guilt in their past, shattering their bones every time. The only person to escape his clutches thus far is Max (thanks to Kate Bush, naturally), but we're curious to see how this goes.Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 plot: What will happen? In the final two episodes of the season we're likely to see how the gang join forces in order to take down the terrifying being that is Vecna – especially now they know his real identity.During the 'Massacre at Hawkins Lab', Vecna revealed himself actually be 001 – the first superpowered child to be taken in by the lab.001 had been chipped and experimented on, with his blood being used to later breed a host of children with powers… including Eleven. He is also, unfortunately, highly narcissistic and more than a bit of a megalomaniac, believing his power prove he is above your average human. After wiping out nearly all the patients and doctors at the ward for trying to keep him detained, he found himself sparing Eleven, who he'd bonded with during his time in the lab. But she denied his request to help him take over humanity, instead overpowering him and sending him to the Upside Down before fleeing. The only other child we know to have survived is 008 – and we haven't seen her since season two. Will she make a reappearance? So let's be clear – Vecna has some scores to settle, and he's going to start with Elle."The Hawkins storyline this year is totally out of Nightmare On Elm Street," Charlie Heaton (Jonathan) told GQ. "It's really exciting to see the show go in that direction." Indeed it was, and we can expect to see reality twisted and bent out of shape by the forces of evil. Not only has Nightmare's villain Freddie Krueger been directly referenced (by Dustin: "He's the super burned-up dude with razors for fingers and kills you in your dreams!"), but he's actually physically appeared in the story in the form of actor Robert Englund, playing the aged Victor Creel, so it's possible that the NoES references have peaked now for season four. But then again, the extended franchise could still inspire the climactic two episodes. Just as long as we don't go down the route of Freddie Vs Jason – that would be a nostalgia trip too far.Elsewhere, having the fate of the world in their hands doesn't mean these hormone-ridden teens aren't finding themselves falling in and out of love. Most prominently among fans is the continuing speculation that Will Byers is battling with his sexuality – and has feelings for Eleven's boyfriend and his best mate, Mike. The cast and creators have been playing fast and loose with this story for a while now, with Will's mum Joyce saying his deadbeat dad would often mock him for being "queer" all the way back in season one because of his gentle nature. But season four definitely kicked this up a notch, and during a chat with Digital Spy, Finn Wolfhard (who plays Mike) opened up about Will's feelings for Mike "shifting towards a more endearing, kind of heartfelt, romantic affection".Confronted with the question, Finn replied: "Yeah. I think you find out slowly through the season, Will's kind of love towards Mike and I think it's a really beautiful thing."However, this was almost U-turned on by Millie Bobby Brown, who shot back at those who feel it necessary to label Will's sexuality."I think what's really nice about Will's character is that he's just a human being going through his own personal demons and issues. So many kids out there don't know, and that's OK. That's OK to not know. And that's OK not to label things," she told Variety. So we're sure this will play out sooner rather than later in volume two. Will isn't the only one with affairs of the heart to contend with either. Nancy is clearly second-guessing her choice of Jonathan over Steve, with Steve still holding a candle for his former fling too.As Jonathan and Nancy's long-distance romance looks doomed for failure, it seems only a matter of time until she reunites with her original boyfriend (seems all it took was a trip to the Upside Down and a near-death experience to make the heart grow fonder... who knew?)"I think it's really nice for Nancy and Steve to come back to each other after a few years of kind of growing from where they were," Dyer told Variety. "They're two characters that really care about each other, so it's really nice to see that again."I want something for Nancy that makes sense. I don't want her to just end up with somebody because it feels like that's what she needs to do. I think she's probably got a lot of other things going on."The mid-season finale definitely put in motion ways to get the entire gang back in one place in order to fight this year's Big Bad. Joyce, Hopper and Murray are on their way back from Russia, Eleven is still in the Hawkins lab, and the rest of the crew are either back in Hawkins or at the very least en route. But they are all wanted people – particularly Eddie, who's found himself the centre of a witch hunt by jocks who believe he started The Hellfire Club as a satanic cult and is therefore responsible for the otherwise unexplainable deaths.Last we saw of the thugs trying to get to him, they were still trying to track him down. Will they reappear after crossing state lines? And will the loveable metalhead live to fight another day?★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

It has been a few weeks since movie theatres opened up back here in Ontario, but it looks like it will be months before the big studios start delivering most of their major pictures. It is allowing for some smaller films time on the big screen and this week we look at the romantic comedy starring Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers, The Package) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) in The Broken Heart Gallery. We also look at a movie that many believe is one of the great teen comedies in the Tina Fey written and Lindsay Lohan starring Mean Girls. Do you want more comedies to be reviewed? Well too bad, because we review White Chicks instead. We also discuss a movie that you may say had comedy and also some drama and maybe a little romance, but it really is entirely its own thing in Charlie Kaufman's I'm Thinking About Ending Things. As well, we look at Oscar's new criteria for Best Picture nominations that they hope will bring more diversity to movies, and we will analyze if we think it will work and if their strategy is even the right thing. As always, we had a blast recording this for you, and we really do appreciate you listening to us each week. Don't blame them, but Hollywood is poppin' off this week. Therefore, this episode is jam packed, but what's new? Fast Facts this week are juicy and a little long, but well worth the listen. Here's a tease, how do you feel about Olivia Jade joining The Hills reboot season 2? Following along in proper fashion brings us to Entertainment News. Topics include: Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse split (Cade and Grace don't even watch Riverdale, but are still upset), Taylor Swift does another Instagram Live one month prior to her new album drop, Shawn Mendes gets a new tattoo, and the internet is freaking out over Nick Jonas's ‘bulkier bod'. Moving on to Love is in the Air: Thomas Rhett is expecting baby number three, Tom Holland is spotted getting cozy with someone who's not Zendaya, and Wells Adams + Sarah Hyland = finally engaged! Congrats to all the happy people. Next is Movie and TV Buzzness, where the two discuss current films breaking box office records, movie premieres, exciting trailers you must see, the Gossip Girl reboot that is officially happening, and Grace gives us a Bachelorette update ahead of the season finale. Both are lacking inspiration for Song of the Week, but provide their best answers. Entering Saved on Instagram, both Cade and Grace have some fun posts: Khloe is clapping back, North is in a nose ring, Cade shares an inspiring post he achieved from Dacre Montgomery, Grace is obsessed with Reese Witherspoon's blog, Southern Charm wins pride parade float, and they could talk Big Little Lies all damn day. Also, want to know their thoughts on a possibility of season 3? Cade's got the inside scoop. Plus, the duo talks about the prime era of TV we are in during Question of the Week. To recap: Cade is heading to Comic Con to find love. Grace is drooling over Nick's new love handles. In all honesty, these are their favorite kinds of episodes. Truly, thank you for listening to episode 31! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/saturation/message

SEASON 1 FINALE OF SEEMORE! - Netflix’s critically-acclaimed series Stranger Things oozes charm and it’s clear that every fiber of it was made with love. The Duffer Brothers (co-creators) lead that train of love by adding an original spin to the nostalgic 80’s themes, archetypes, and aesthetics they draw inspiration from. The sci-fi series kicks off with the mysterious disappearance of a small-town child and his friend’s pursuit to find him against peculiar odds. With incredible talent both in front and behind the camera, this cultural phenomenon has already been nominated for over 160 awards and has won 52 of them, including multiple Emmy’s in its first two seasons. With a third season about to be released for July 4th, Stranger Things shows no signs of slowing down. Joan explores why the show walks a great balance between paying homage to respective narrative structures while adding an original spin unique to the series. Beware of mild spoilers!

Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:23 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean I was just barely listening to your Shanlian on Batman guest appearance episode in which y'all discuss the 10 year anniversary of TDK. First of all that episode was great! TDK has a special place in my heart because it's the film that made me fall in love with “geek”/pop culture! After that film and in anticipation of TDKR is where I found MMM and you, amongst other podcast about similar topics. So I wasn't around for the build up to TDK and wasn't a part of the ARG for that film. So that episode was a great chronicle of events leading up to that film, thank you! My questions are:1. Why do you think no other Superhero/Comic book film has not done an ARG similar to TDK? I know TDKR did one but it doesn't sound like it was on the level it was for TDK. 06:51 Hector Giovanni Navarrete2. I know you mention in that episode that no other ARG was as big or as detailed as TDK's. While I agree it's one of the most popular ones out there, the only one that, to me, can truly rival that one is the 1st Cloverfield movies' ARG. I wasn't really following this stuff at that time, but it seems like that one was also as big and detailed. It seems that this film's ARG wasn't as popular/well known as TDK's. I know that the Cloverfield fan group is a “cult” fandom (not in a bad way, just in regards to size). I love the Cloverfield franchise, was let down by Cloverfield Paradox but the first 2 were great! What's your opinion on them? I think you've mentioned before that you liked the 1st one directed by Matt Reeves.08:03 Hector Giovanni Navarrete3. Lastly I feel like Nolan was also starting a type of trend in superhero cinema of having a villain prologue before jumping into the crux of the stories (examples: TDK & TDKR). I know some superhero films have done a sort of prologue of sorts, although not necessarily of villains per say more like about main characters/parents (examples Ant-Man & The Wasp, ASM 1). Although Civil War did have a good short one about Winter Soldier and Tony's parents. Do you like when there are prologues to movies, more specifically to superhero movies, and why do you think they can be effective? Also do you like when they are integral to the story or just sort of add some context to the bigger story? Would you like more films in the genre to do more prologues?10:30 Derek BeebeWhat do you think was the best year of multiple Marvel movie releases?  I think it's 2018; Black Panther, Infinity War, and Ant-Man Wasp were all excellent!  11:47 Derek BeebeWhat year do you think had the biggest quality gap between movies?  My pick is 2016.  I really loved Civil War, but I thought Doctor Strange was merely good.12:32 Derek BeebeWhat are the best Marvel movies to get in 4K?13:45 Derek BeebeI've been reading the Abnett/Lanning run of cosmic comics from Annihilation to Conquest to War of Kings to the Thanos Imperative.  What was your favorite storyline of these?15:12 Phillip CastroHey Sean, great job on the content as always! I apologize if this has already been touched on but I wanted to ask your thoughts on whether or not you can see Ghost possibly playing a significant role in Endgame beyond rescuing Scott from the Quantum Realm?16:23 AlexWhy do you think Video game related movies don't work as movies as well as comic book/novel adaptations? And can you ever see a good and successful  video game movie ever being made? 20:17 Woo S! KimI used to purchase the Marvel Collector Corps from Funko for my little sisters and they love them.  Although, I feel since Funko partnered with Amazon starting with the Deadpool 2 Collector Corps box the quality of the exclusive items has gone down, this is the main reason I don't purchase them any longer, I believe in giving the people I love great gifts.  Do you still get the Marvel Collector Corps boxes and if you have, what are your thoughts on the boxes in the last six months or so?22:35 Woo S! KimSean is it true in one version of the Six-One-Six Marvel Universe that The Eternals were responsible for the creation of Mutants and would you like to be the explanation of how Mutants are in the MCU, why or why not?24:17 Woo S! KimThis is going to be a tough question, but I wanted your point of view, Sean.  Of the three MCU characters that have had trilogies Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man who do you think have had the most compelling transformative arcs that you have enjoyed the most and why, this includes things we've seen in team-ups.25:27 Alex WardDo you think Black Widow will have a male or female villain? While I want the villain to be a woman so we can have more representation in the MCU, I also think she deserves to go up against a prestige mainstream villain like Taskmaster. What are some female villains you'd like to see in the Black Widow movie, or possibly gender-bent male villains?27:10 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean how do you think they will do Deadpool 3?? Ryan Reynolds said it would be very different, do you think they will incorporate the previous two into the MCU as is or make it a pocket universe? I know it might confuse the audience but we will see. Also when do you think they will release it?29:45 Jordan BentleyHey Sean! Assuming that we lose certain Avengers in Endgame, be it to retirement or deaths, do you think we will get characters like Riri who will pick up the mantle, or will they just let those characters rest for a while?33:03 AlexWho's  your top choices for Johnny Storm? I like the idea of Lucas Hedges(who's the same age as Tom Holland) or  Dacre Montgomery who I liked a lot in Stranger Things season 2. And out of these two suggestions that I have given  which actor out of these two do you think would suit the role more over the other?34:39 AlexI know he's recently been rumored for the Caped Crusader but do you think Richard Madden would be a good fit for everybody's favorite Elastic genius Dr. Reed Richards?  I think Madden is a good actor based off what I've seen of him in the Netflix The Bodyguard and I feel Mr. Madden has a strong resemblance to the original Jack Kirby rendition of Reed from the comics.35:44 AlexSean,  you are quite familiar with my paranoia/worry about certain markets like China blocking the deal but now I have a  big  concern that Brazil might potentially be the roadblock that might prevent the deal from becoming a reality. Apparently Iger recently  had a meeting with Brazilian regulators in order to explain the value of the deal and it ended without any agreement being reached. How do you see this playing out, Sean?  The fact that Iger has to go over to Brazil to meet with regulators tells me that Brazil might be the hardest market to acquire approval in.39:23 AlexDo you think the X-Men  coming into the MCU could potentially impede the creativity of the MCU? What  I mean creativity is I'm talking about Marvel's willingness to make big brands out of properties that were previously considered obscure or not bankable. It's obvious that if Marvel had X-Men from the start then stuff like Guardians Of The Galaxy would not happen.  Sean, can you eventually see a point in which Marvel will eventually stop making movies about lesser known characters and be strictly be in the Mutant-business or do you still foresee Marvel still making movies around more obscure properties like Eternals and Guardians Of The Galaxy.  I must admit as much as I like the idea of the merry Mutants coming home I still have a worry that Marvel could end up relying on them too much like Warners relied on Batman and Superman until now. 43:02 Alex WardWe have not seen many villains make major comebacks in the MCU aside from Loki, Thanos, and maybe one or two more that I'm totally blanking on for some reason. That being said, what existing villains would you like to see come back in a big way? I think Red Skull would be a great character to make a full comeback (yes he cameo'd in Infinity War but that doesn't count), maybe in the Falcon/Bucky series or if the Cap movies continue.Similarly, when villains do return, there has to be a twist of some sort, or maybe just some kind of change from their first appearance. For example, Loki had the backing of the Chitauri. What do you think will be different about the Avengers' rematch with Thanos? Do you think maybe there's another villain?49:24 Alex WardDo you think the WB streaming service will absorb the DCU service?54:43 Jerry KowalskiI managed to get my Disney/Marvel Studios 1st 10yrs AIW hat, and just received the Iron Man one, do u know if there will be others? Also if & when Marvel does do their version of The X-Men, why don't they sit on Wolverine a bit, and focus on the core/og members such as Jean,Iceman, maybe Beast, Prof.X and of course Scott, and finally give scott his due and perhaps push him to the forefront of the new X series?57:49 Mookie JohnsonIs it plausible the Infinity war shot with the heros running to the camera that wasn't in the movie was actually footage from Avengers: Endgame or was it just shot for the trailer?59:24 Mookie JohnsonI love the Red Skull's appearance in Infinity War, but it makes no sense to me. Ever since I first saw it, it has felt forced. Why would it send him to the soul stone?  Even if I accept the explanation at face value, it means the Space stone  decided he was unworthy and then sent him to the Soul Stone as punishment.... So I guess the Space stone was thinking if he spends time with the soul stone he'd grow past his greed and lust for power. What are your thoughts on this?1:04:25 AlexJeph Loeb recently commented on the pending Disney/Fox acquisition  and expressed enthusiasm  over the prospects of Marvel having the Merry Mutants and The First Family all under one roof and it got me thinking what effects can you see the Disney merger having on the the future seasons of the  remaining non-netflix,  Marvel shows  produced by the television division like  Agents Of Shield and the Runaways. Could we possibly see mutants in those shows and all future non-Netflix Marvel shows eventually or do you think the mutants will only be relegated to only Marvel Studio's productions like the movies and the Disney Streaming Service shows?1:08:56 Alex WardAvengers: Endgame Spoiler question See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
