Spectators at Henrico County Public Schools-sponsored sporting events, such as football games, are now allowed to bring only clear or small handbags. Earlier this month, the school division announced that backpacks and large bags would no longer be allowed at athletic events. A clear bag policy is being phased in this season. Henrico is the latest school district to adopt stricter safety guidelines for spectators at after-school events. Henrico County Public Schools student have made some progress in improving standardized test scores since pass rates significantly dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic, but not all student groups have recovered at the same pace. The recognition is based on criteria such as working conditions, salary, diversity, and recommendations from within the state and from national industry and staff. Henrico County Public Schools is adjusting the 2023-24 school calendar to add a staff and student holiday on Friday, March 29. The holiday will use time that had been set aside for snow days and other unexpected events. Henrico County Public Schools will hold its annual College and Career Night Nov. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Deep Run High School, 4801 Twin Hickory Road in Glen Allen. Students and families are invited to the countywide event to talk with representatives of more than 100 universities, colleges and professional programs. Attendees also will have a chance to talk with employers, such as businesses, government agencies and branches of the military. Henrico students of all ages and their families are invited to attend. Twenty-six Henrico County Public Schools programs have been recognized in the 2023 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards. The annual awards honor groundbreaking county government programs across the nation. Two of the programs also received awards from the Virginia Association of Counties. Representatives of HCPS departments with winning entries were recognized at the Oct. 26 Henrico School Board meeting.
