Back in 2011, I took my first business class in college. I had heard about this professor who had a really innovative way of teaching inside of the business school at ColumbiaAfter taking that class, I ended up having quite a few classes with him and he ended up becoming my Advisor for a little while. It was in 2012 during my junior where I took my first entrepreneurial class with him, created my first business plan and learned that Monopoly actually could be tied back to business (my family strongly dislikes playing with me now). Some of my favorite classes ever were taught by today's guest and I consider him my first mentor in the business world. The fact that we are sitting together now on my podcast over a decade later, it feels very surreal and I'm grateful. My guest today is Dr. Sean Siebert. Dr. Siebert's Bio:Dr. Sean Siebert's breadth of knowledge and experience, combined with his story-telling ability, make him a much-sought-after speaker, panelist, educator, and consultant. His messages resonate with audiences, leaving them both motivated and committed to embrace a future of endless possibilities. Currently, Siebert has authored the award-winning books, Fighting The Good Fight and Conversations on Grief.Additionally, Siebert serves as a contracted subject-matter-expert (SME) for the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR). His work in the industries of education; workforce development; entrepreneurship; and economic development continues to be recognized across the United States and around the world. Dr. Siebert has been honored by the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) with the prestigious Friend of Education Award for his work with school districts across the State of Missouri. Dr. Siebert was the national recipient of the National Association of Development Organizations Innovation Award, for his work that helps communities, and individuals, to combat the mental health and opioid epidemics. Siebert has also been honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Faculty Member of the Year, and he was the recipient of the Exclamation Award for Excellence. Siebert has been recognized on numerous occasions by the Missouri Department of Economic Development as he was a featured keynote speaker at the Governor's Conference on Economic Development in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2023. Imagine flying to Hawaii for a humor keynote, only to have everything shift in a way you never saw coming. As a keynote speaker, comedian, and corporate speaker, I know that timing, adaptability, and engaging an audience are everything—but this was a whole new challenge. With the pressure on and no room for error, I had to think fast and use comedy in business to keep the energy high. What happened next proved that sometimes, the best moments in public speaking come when you least expect them, and that workplace humor can turn any situation into a success. https://www.theWorkLady.com Jan McInnis is a top keynote speaker, funny female motivational speaker, comedian, Master of Ceremonies, and comedy writer. The social and emotional development, mental health, and wellbeing of children have become critical issues, with a crisis now widely recognised. NHS Digital reports that 1 in 5 children face mental health challenges, and we continue to see alarming rates of exclusions and suspensions, even in primary schools. It's clear that a strategic approach to prioritising children's social and emotional literacy, health, and wellbeing is essential for school improvement and positive outcomes. In this episode, Clare Williams, author and creator from Hamish & Milo Wellbeing Resources discusses ‘Creating an SEMH inclusive school', highlighting the pressing need for schools to adopt practices that foster social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support for ALL students, not just those with SEND. Hamish & Milo advocate for inclusive, relational practices while ensuring that staff have access to evidence-based resources, qualitative CPD training, impact measurement tools, and opportunities for collaboration with parents. Clare focuses on the 8 Public Health England Principles to promote a whole school approach: Leadership and management Ethos and environment Curriculum and teaching and learning Enabling student voice Staff development Identifying need and monitoring impact Targeted support Working with parents and carers About Clare Williams Clare is a primary teacher, educational psychotherapist, author, speaker and advocate for children's mental health and wellbeing.
