Er will seine "Big Five" voll machen und endlich ein Spitzmaulnashorn erlegen. Doch es kommt anders als gedacht: Hunter White verfehlt das Nashorn, doch dafür bietet ihm der Großwildjagd-Experte Van Heeren etwas anderes an: eine Menschenjagd (leider auch kein Scherz). Ist "Trophäe" eine Art literarisches Black Mirror? Satire? Kritik am Kolonialismus? Und warum zwingt uns die Autorin die Perspektive von Hunter White und seinen weißen kolonialen männlichen Blick auf? Das alles und noch viel mehr besprechen wir in dieser Folge.

Hunter White ist ein Wallstreet-Jongleur mit exzentrischer Ehefrau und teurem Hobby: Er liebt die Großwildjagd. Er will die Big Five voll machen, die Krönung wäre der Abschuss eines Nashorns. Wilderer machen den Plan zunichte. Sein Freund und Safari-Organisator van Heeren macht ihm ein alternatives Angebot: Ob er schon mal von den Big Six gehört hätte. Hunter White lässt sich auf die Menschenjagd ein. Seine "Beute" ist ein Eingeborener, sein Guide dessen bester Freund. Der Deal mit dem Stamm: Mit dem Geld für den Abschuss soll einer aus dem Stamm in den USA studieren dürfen. Eine schwindelerregende Safari in Grenzbereiche menschlicher Moral. Der Ort Berliner Zoo Die Autorin Gaea Schoeters, ist eine flämische Autorin, Journalistin, Drehbuchschreiberin, Opern-Librettistin. Die 1976 geborene Autorin ist mit dem Motorrad durch den Nahen Osten und Zentralasien gereist. Den afrikanischen Schauplatz von "Trophäe" hat sie sich allerdings nur über YouTube-Videos erschlossen. Für die Lesungen in Deutschland hat sie eigens Deutsch gelernt. Sie gehört dem niederländisch-flämischen Autorinnenkollektiv Fixdit an, das sich für mehr Gleichberechtigung in der Literaturbranche einsetzt.

Dieses Jahr sind die Niederlande und Flandern Gastland der Leipziger Buchmesse. Auf dem Literaturstammtisch liegen deshalb neue Bücher der Autor:innen Gaea Schoeters, Lize Spit und Mathijs Deen. Hunter White geht auf Grosswildjagd nach einem der selten gewordenen Spitzmaulnashörner. Dafür hat er eine Lizenz zum Töten ersteigert. Was treibt ihn an? Die Suche nach dem Kick? Die flämische Autorin Gaea Schoeters sucht in ihrem Afrika-Roman «Trophäe» Antworten darauf. Sie beleuchtet nicht nur kritisch das Verhältnis Mensch und Natur, sondern auch die Folgen des Kolonialismus. Gaea Schoeters schreibt mit einer Sprachgewalt, die einem die Nackenhaare aufstellt, findet Annette König. Jimmy ist ein hervorragender Schüler. Und er ist einsam. Bis Tristan in sein Leben tritt. Dieser hat einen Krieg und eine Flucht nach Belgien hinter sich. Jimmy erhält die Aufgabe, Tristan durch das Schuljahr zu begleiten. Daraus entspinnt die belgische Autorin Lize Spit eine Geschichte über Freundschaft, Fantasie - und Verzweiflung. Der Roman «Der ehrliche Finder» fesselt einen von Beginn weg, sagt Lea Dora Illmer. Few people seem to be so lucky as to discover their true purpose in life, and even fewer seem tenacious enough to truly dedicate their entire lives to that purpose. In that regard, George Hunter White may have been the luckiest, most tenacious man to ever live. White's life was one of lies, drugs, sex, manipulation, coercion, extortion, violence, and murder.
