Diesmal ist der DarmTalk am Universitätsklinikum Salzburg (SALK) zu Gast. In unserem aktuellen Gespräch wollen wir den Schwerpunkt auf moderne Therapieansätze in der Behandlung von Chronisch Entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen (CED) legen. OÄ Dr.in Sonja Heeren steht uns dabei als Gesprächspartnerin zur Verfügung. Frau Dr.in Sonja Heeren ist in der Abteilung Innere Medizin mit Schwerpunkt Gastroenterologie und Hepatologie am Universitätsklinikum in Salzburg tätig. Das Zurückdrängen der Entzündung bzw. das Abheilen der Darmschleimhaut ist eines der wichtigsten Therapieziele im Management von Morbus Crohn und Colitis ulcerosa. Da die individuelle Situation und der Krankheitsverlauf der CED-Betroffenen jedoch so unterschiedlich sind, gibt es nicht DIE EINE Therapie bzw. DEN EINEN Therapieverlauf für alle Patient:innen. Fakt ist, dass uns heutzutage eine Vielzahl an Behandlungsoptionen für die Behandlung von Chronisch Entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen zur Verfügung steht. Eine personalisierte CED-Therapie, also auf die einzelne Person abgestimmte Therapie, hängt von einigen Faktoren ab, wie z. B. um welche Therapielinie es sich handelt, ob und in welcher Form man auf vorangegangene Therapien angesprochen hat, ob bereits Begleiterkrankungen bestehen und wie schwer der Morbus Crohn oder die Colitis ulcerosa bei der jeweiligen Patient:in ausgeprägt ist. Frau Dr.in Heeren wird nun ihre Erfahrungen zum Thema personalisierte Therapien bei CED mit uns teilen und uns die Vorteile dieser individuellen Therapieansätze näherbringen. Ik ben Anja, geboren in 1976, getrouwd met Patrick en trotse moeder van twee kinderen. Ik heb wel even getwijfeld of ik de persoonlijke dingen zou neerschrijven maar heb toch beslist om het te doen. Ik hoop door mijn eerlijk en open schrijven, je te inspireren om de werkelijke waarden van het leven te zoeken. Al op mijn 16de trok ik de ene na de andere ongezonde situatie of relatie aan, voelde me waardeloos en minderwaardig. Ik verstopte mezelf achter een façade en zette dan ook een “Happy face” op. Ik voelde me eigenlijk heel erg depressief. En het ergst van al, ik kon er uit schaamte en angst met niemand over praten. Ik kende lange tijd een diepe eenzaamheid. Toen ik na mijn scheiding er alleen voor stond met twee kinderen van 3 en 4 jaar, ben ik een zoektocht begonnen naar “de zin van het leven”. Ik bezocht waarzeggers op de hoop mijn toekomst te zien. Zocht een toevlucht in spiritualiteit om rust te vinden. Maar hoe meer ik mij er in verdiepte, hoe meer ik onrust kreeg. Ik begon het te ervaren als iets duisters maar kon het toen niet begrijpen. Uit wanhoop ging ik een kerk binnen, want ergens geloofde ik in een God en bad: “Als u waarlijk bestaat, waar kan ik u vinden en kom mij te hulp.” Kort daarna leerde ik Patrick kennen en reeds vanaf onze eerste afspraak praatte hij over Jezus en God. Hij kwam als een geschenk uit de hemel en vertelde mij dat ik al mijn antwoorden in de Bijbel kon vinden. Ik ontdekte dat Jezus mij alles vergeeft en ik hoefde hier niets voor te doen, behalve zijn geschenk aannemen. Ik weet nu ook dat ik een eeuwig leven bij God zal hebben. Ik beleef mijn geloof als een zegen, ik dank God voor zijn geduld, liefde en de grote genade die Hij geeft. Wie ben ik ? Ik ben een nieuwe schepping. 2 Korintiërs 5:17 Daarom ook is iemand die één met Christus is, een nieuwe schepping. Het oude is voorbij, het nieuwe is gekomen.

At the end of episode 49, we said that we were going to move away from the political part of the story of the History of the Netherlands for a while to instead focus on some of the other important societal developments that were happening concurrently at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th centuries. To be honest, perhaps it is because we have taken quite a long break, or maybe because of the change of direction we want to make now, but we have found it rather difficult to write this episode. The 16th century saw so many radical developments in such a vast variety of subjects that the prospect of somehow covering this all in a satisfactory way in this podcast without being forever consumed by it is, to put it lightly, daunting, bordering on overwhelming. So bear with us over the next few episodes as we, in our typical way, blithely set off in a new direction and attempt to lay foundations to explain how a new zeitgeist of education and learning that had originated in the Italian peninsula in the 14th century, took hold in the Low Countries in the 15th. The last episode of the Spring semester features student host Sam Schauer interviewing Ted Heeren, a COJO graduate and the founder and creative director of Fresh Produce, an advertising and marketing agency in Sioux Falls.

The NBA playoffs are upon us! While I can certainly rattle off some random games for you, I don't hold a candle to today's guest: statistician Dave Heeren, who has watched more than 75 YEARS of NBA basketball. Dave started dissecting games in college and quickly joined the New York Knicks as a team statistician. He's developed his TENDEX value rating to highlight the best to ever play the game. He's diving into TENDEX and so much more in his book Seventy-Five: Best NBA Players and Teams Rated by Statistician who has Seen Games Since 1947. We're talking about the top players and teams, why you need to trust data, and some of the coolest moments Dave has experienced as a basketball fan.

Our special guest today is Dave Heeren, author of 15 books including his latest 75...a celebration of the NBA's 75th anniversary. David Heeren was born on April 11, 1938. Early in life he developed interest in two distinct fields, sports statistics and Bible prophecy. While working as an award-winning journalist for the past half-century, he has written books on both subjects, beginning with five Basketball Abstract books (1988-94). These five introduced new statistical rating methods that have been used by sixteen NBA teams and by professional basketball leagues on three continents.

This is episode 11 and it's all about Jan van Riebeeck arrival in 1652 and the amaXhosa/KhoeKhoe relationship. South Africa's modern community is a melting pot of people and part of that melting story started when the Dutch company the VOC decided to build a refreshment station in Table Bay. But it took quite some time to convince the Heeren 17 to agree to this plan. Van Riebeeck's landing was also extremely well documented – the logs he kept and those maintained by the VOC is a vast repository of the past. We need to talk a little about van Riebeeck. I mentioned a few things last episode, but now we must understand the short, fiery and energetic person more completely. He was lionised as the man who had vision leading the arrival of Europeans who came to live in south Africa – but the tale is not as it seems. The real distinction for running a proper colony fell to later men such as Simon van der Stel and Hendryk van Rheede whereas van Riebeeck never wanted to remain in Africa. In the mid-1600s the amaXhosa were still living in the vicinity of the Mbashe River in the modern Transkei and were going through a process of major segmentation as several chiefdoms hived off from the paramountcy. Some of their history was noted in 1554 after Portuguese ship São Bento ran aground at the mouth of the Mbhashe River.
