Brian and Tim discuss the new E.O. aimed at resolving the question of what to do with Da Afghanistan Bank's assets in the U.S. and debate whether it will work as intended. Next, they place bets on whether it's too late for JCPOA 2.0 to happen and discuss how far the U.S. may be prepared to go to impose costs on China if it disregards the (possible) “crushing” sanctions that could be imposed upon Russia. Finally, Brian and Tim stick with China to briefly cover the recently unsealed trade secret theft charges against Hytera Communications and an atypical CFIUS review initiated by a U.S. company unhappy with its Chinese investors. ******** Questions? With 2020 behind us and with high hopes for a great 2021, what better way to change our mindset, than sitting down and talking aviation. During our last 9 seasons, the SimpleFlight crew has had the pleasure of hosting north of 200 guests., with a focus on finding amazing people doing amazing things in aviation. And this week's show is no different. In some people's opinion, the LSA market has not lived up to its expectations, but there are companies that saw the LSA as an opportunity to reach out to new customers and deliver on new missions. One such company is Icon Aircraft (https://www.iconaircraft.com/). With Brandon running into technical challenges, Marc went solo in talking with Jerry Meyer, Director of Marketing for Icon. While not a household name to many of us in GA, Jerry brings a strong background in aviation (naval pilot) and brand management to his role at Icon. There were a lot of questions for Jerry and we invite you to listen in and learn about Icon's aircraft, it's culture, its go to market strategy, and what makes the company so special. We're wondering if any of you are flying the Icon A5 or other Amphib. We'd love to hear your experience and have you enlighten the rest of us landlubbers about the joys of landing on a "wet" runway. Please share them with the rest of the SimpleFlight Facebook and Instagram community @simpleflightradio Thanks for being a part of the SimpleFlight Family!!
In this episode Steve and Abbie have a revealing discussion with Warren Curry from Icon Aircraft. If you have any interest in aviation or are a pilot, especially a seaplane pilot, you have heard of the Icon A5. The company has been promoting the heck out of this fascinating little flying boat for many years, but they have had more than their share of challenges bringing it to fruition. This episode provides a new perspective on the training mindset at Icon, which sets a new standard for LSAs, as well as the long evolution of the aircraft itself. After listening to the episode you can decide for yourself if Icon is finally meeting the challenges of the seaplane marketplace and will achieve success. Support this podcast

Tonight, Al and Marc were joined by Fred Canavan, a loyal listener from New Jersey, who is a Civil Air Patrol pilot. Fred loves Aviation and he found a way to give back to the public through his work with the Civil Air Patrol (http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com). As a mission pilot for CAP, one of his duties is to lead Search and Rescue missions. As you will soon understand, the process to locate a downed aircraft is as much art, as it is science. The good news is he and his colleagues have that skill. Marc and Al also discussed new developments at Icon Aircraft corporation, as it goes through the growing pains that all aircraft manufacturers experience. The guys talked about the airshows that kick off the summer flying season, including the exciting news that the OSH Notam has been published. Lastly, Marc brought up his experience flying below the Chicago Bravo, only to find a long line of airliners flying their final approach in that same space. Didn't have to have much of a scan to see 777's across his flight path.
Change is good. It leads to innovation and in aviation, hopefully a cheaper, safer, faster, and better flying experience. Tonight's show dealt with the changing environment in aviation. Al and Marc talked about scheduled 135 operating companies and other "uber-like entities and how they are changing the industry. The conversation moved to new student pilot rules, which get in the way of an old and wonderful tradition of soloing on a pilot's 16th birthday. And then on to a discussion of how Icon Aircraft is working to set a risk mitigation precedent with a new buyer contract with many interesting caveats.Marc and Al finished strong by checking in with sometimes co-host, Tim Rylko, who is about to complete his three month training with his new employer. In a matter of a couple weeks, Tim will be flying with passengers in an EMB 175. Very exciting! Thanks for listening. Blue Skies and Tailwinds.
