Today's top stories, with context, in just 15 minutes. On today's podcast:1) US and Israeli jets struck Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other targets, hours after President Donald Trump had suggested negotiations with Tehran over an interim deal were progressing. The attack took place south of Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, with several Iranian personnel killed, Iran’s state-run Nour News reported, without providing further details. Trump earlier said negotiations between the US and Iran over an agreement to extend their ceasefire and reopen the strait were “proceeding nicely.”2) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called US State Secretary Marco Rubio to advise him to evacuate US citizens and diplomats from Kyiv, as the Kremlin plans to continue heavy strikes on the Ukrainian capital, according to a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry Monday.3) Ferrari NV shares fell almost 8% in Milan after the Italian super-car maker unveiled the Luce, its first fully electric vehicle, marking a sharp setback for one of the industry’s most closely watched EV debuts. The drop shows the challenge Ferrari is facing as it tries to extend one of the world’s most profitable luxury-car brands into battery-powered models. Early negative reactions across analysts as well as social media zoomed in on the four-door, five seater’s design, judged too similar to other electric models such as by Tesla Inc.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Mideast and Russia expert Ksenia Svetlova joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Former MK Svetlova is the executive director of ROPES (Regional Organization for Peace, Economics & Security) and a senior non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council. We open the program with an exploration of Iran's historic and current ties with Russia, after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met yesterday with President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. Svetlova explores Russia's influence in the region -- specifically its direct ties to Hezbollah -- and assesses how much leverage Moscow may have in the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States. In the second half of the program, we focus on Israel's relations with Arab Gulf states in the wake of the war in Iran. We hear how Israel deployed troops and the Iron Dome to its Abraham Accord partner, the United Arab Emirates. https://youtu.be/AAQKYuRbaj8 Recorded April 10, 2026 Trisha Curtis, CEO of PetroNerds and host of the PetroNerds podcast, welcomes Tatiana Mitrova back to discuss the geopolitical shocks reshaping global energy markets. Just days into the Iran ceasefire, they unpack why the latest crisis is better understood as a logistical shock than a traditional oil shock, how drone warfare is changing energy infrastructure risk, why Russia's economy has proven more resilient than many expected, and how China is building an energy strategy centered on security, redundancy, and leverage. Tatiana brings a systems-level view to the conversation, explaining how large energy systems behave under pressure, how markets adapt under stress, and why the world is underestimating the long-term consequences of today's conflicts. From the Strait of Hormuz to Russian oil production, from the war in Ukraine to China's stockpiling and trading strategy, this episode connects the dots between geopolitics, logistics, military technology, and energy market structure. This episode is a masterclass in thinking beyond simple supply-and-demand narratives. It shows how energy markets are shaped not just by barrels and molecules, but by logistics, chokepoints, insurance, military technology, infrastructure resilience, and state capacity. For anyone trying to understand oil, gas, Russia, China, or the next phase of energy security, this conversation offers a deeper framework for what comes next. Tatiana Mitrova is a Global Fellow at Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy and one of the leading experts on Russian energy, energy security, and geopolitical risk. Her work focuses on energy economics, infrastructure, chokepoints, and how complex systems behave under stress. In this episode: Why the Iran crisis is “not actually an oil shock,” but a logistical shock What the market is missing about the Strait of Hormuz, insurance, and shipping risk How shadow fleets, workarounds, and parallel trading systems keep oil moving under stress Why drones have fundamentally changed infrastructure security and energy geopolitics What sanctions have and have not done to Russia's economy and oil sector Why Russia's production has remained resilient, even as flexibility declines How the war in Ukraine has turned into a costly war of attrition Why Europe is already living in a hybrid-war environment How China is using this moment to strengthen energy security and strategic optionality What energy markets can learn from “systems under stress”

Russia may be issuing verbal condemnations from the sidelines of the conflict in Iran, but behind the scenes, it's leveraging its relationship with Iran to give the US a “taste of its own medicine.” Former MI6 Chief Sir Richard Dearlove and Times Radio political editor Kate McCann sit down with Alexander Gabuev, director of the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center, to discuss Russia's calculated role in the escalating war in Iran. Gabuev explains why the US being preoccupied in fighting another Middle Eastern conflict is a “gift” to Putin, including how temporary sanctions relief and the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz boosts Russian oil revenues. Together, they also analyze the impact of the war on Ukraine's security and energy infrastructure, as well as how continued economic strain and repression in Russia may limit its involvement in the conflict. Last week on Fox overpaid television personalities tried to fake their way through a war they didn't understand. As the president changed the reasons he started the military conflict with Iran the folks at Fox struggled to forge a coherent message about it.The propaganda machine sputtered and stumbled. The network kept repeating Trump's mixed messages:* The war was already over/The war will be over soon/This isn't a war* High gas prices are a small price to pay for freedom/Gas prices will drop immediately/Americans don't care about high gas prices* There will be no ground invasion of U.S. troops/There might be a short ground invasion of U.S. troops* We've killed their leadership/The new leadership is worse than the old leadership* Trump is the peace president/Trump has started military conflicts with seven different countries* This war will bring long-term peace/Every problem in the world is caused by Iran* Russia is helping Iran/Russia is not a concern/This war is about China* The U.S. is NOT fighting Iran for Israel/Sean Hannity featured a 21 minute interview with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi NetanyahuWhen Fox News hosts weren't talking out of both sides of their mouths, they were promoting Trump's lies.* Americans overwhelmingly approve of Trump's decision to attack Iran - several polls say otherwise* Iran was capable of a nuclear attack on the U.S. or Israel - despite no evidence supporting this* The people of Iran will rise up and take over their government - so far no such movement has formed. It could be because people don't want to stage a revolution while being attacked by the U.S. and Israel* Trump's promises of ‘no new wars' did not mean he's an isolationistIn the four years I've covered Fox News the past week is the weakest I've ever seen the network. Instead of a streamlined well thought out strategy to promote the war the network's messaging is a sloppy mess full of contradictions. This is a public episode. SEND ME A TEXT MESSAGE NOWI'm fired up in this episode and honestly there's no other way to start it. I'm angry about what's happening in this country right now and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Congress just handed Donald Trump enormous freedom when it comes to the conflict with Iran, and the explanations coming out of Washington are almost as disturbing as the vote itself. No clear objectives, no real endgame, and yet somehow the answer from leadership was still “go ahead.”That's where the frustration really kicks in. If the people elected to check presidential power admit they don't understand the strategy behind a war, how in the world do they turn around and give it the green light anyway? I dig into that question and I don't pull any punches about what it says regarding the state of leadership in Washington and why Americans should be demanding a lot more accountability. Then I turn to the bizarre political theater surrounding Kristi Noem and her sudden exit. MAGA supporters are trying to spin it as a promotion, but when you look closely the whole thing feels like another reshuffling inside Trump's circus. The new face stepping in, Senator Markwayne Mullin, brings his own share of contradictions and head scratching moments, and it raises a bigger question about whether any personnel change even matters if the policies themselves don't change. The conversation gets even more serious when we look at the international situation unfolding around Iran. Reports that Russia may be providing intelligence to Tehran could dramatically raise the stakes in this conflict. When another nuclear power starts feeding targeting information into the mix, the strategic picture changes fast. I walk through why that development could push a regional conflict onto a much more dangerous global chessboard.Back here at home the economic signals aren't exactly calming anyone down either. A new jobs report showing ninety two thousand jobs lost, rising gas prices, and a stock market sliding for the second straight day is not the combination you want to see when the world already feels unstable. I break down why those warning signs matter and why ordinary Americans usually end up paying the price when all those pressures collide at once. And just when you think the geopolitical list is already long enough, suddenly the phrase “Cuba is next” starts floating around again. Next for what exactly? Military action, regime change, another round of political theater? We've been hearing versions of this for decades, and I take a step back to ask the question nobody ever seems to answer. What is the actual plan? Finally, the episode closes on a very different note as the country pauses to honor Jesse Jackson. For more than half a century his voice shaped some of the most important moments in American civil rights and politics. Leaders, clergy, and former presidents gathered to pay their respects, and it's a reminder that the power of one voice speaking up can echo across generations. If you've got thoughts about anything I covered in this episode, I want to hear them. Join the Conversation at 303-477-5600 or text to 307-200-8222. Monday - Friday from 3 pm - 6 pm MT. HOUR 1 Is America on the brink of another endless war—or witnessing a swift strategic reset in the Middle East? In Hour 1, John Rush dives headfirst into the escalating conflict with Iran, pushing back against what he calls political fear-mongering from both sides. Do you really need to “gun up,” or is that just opportunism wrapped in panic? John breaks down the War Powers Act, defends presidential authority, and calls out Colorado lawmakers for repeating what he sees as scripted talking points. Is Congress misunderstanding the Constitution—or deliberately distorting it? And could this conflict be over in weeks, not years? He also shares a powerful story from a recent trip to Cabo—an encounter with a self-deported immigrant that sparks a bigger question: Should America create a fast-track path for productive, merit-based citizenship? Plus, insight from caller John on sleeper cells, the Strait of Hormuz, and whether Governor Jared Polis is quietly positioning himself for a 2028 presidential run. Is Iran collapsing faster than the headlines suggest? And is the political class ready for what comes next? HOUR 2 Is the spike in gas prices real—or just market emotion? John opens Hour 2, breaking down oil at $70 a barrel and explaining why America is far less dependent on Middle East imports than a decade ago. Are we reacting to headlines instead of facts? He then tackles the political fallout from the Iran strikes, arguing critics misunderstand presidential war powers—and suggesting deeper ideological roots behind today's anti-Trump sentiment. Is cultural conditioning shaping the national divide more than we realize? The mood shifts when Richard Rush joins the show to talk NASCAR and leadership. How did Michael Jordan's 23XI Racing make history by winning the first three races of the season? Is greatness transferable—and could Jordan's ownership revive the sport? The hour wraps with a car review of the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum—a three-row SUV blending hybrid efficiency, 362 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and family-focused practicality without requiring a plug-in. Is this the sweet spot for modern families? HOUR 3 Hour 3 of Rush To Reason dives straight into high-stakes global politics and Colorado controversy. John Rush welcomes Jim Pfaff of The Conservative Caucus to break down the escalating conflict with Iran. Is this a calculated, strategic reset of the global stage? Could weakening Iran reshape Russia, China, and even Ukraine? And is President Trump executing a bold, short-term operation—or taking a historic gamble? The War Powers Act, congressional authority, and America's long-term foreign policy all come under the microscope. Later, Michael Smith, State Director for the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), joins John to sound the alarm on Colorado's HB 1054. Is this really about worker safety—or a new layer of regulation that could crush small businesses? What happens when state government stacks enforcement on top of federal OSHA? John also tackles Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's order to shield residents from ICE. Can a city legally interfere with federal immigration enforcement—or is this political grandstanding aimed at national headlines? Big questions. High stakes. You won't want to miss it. 2026-02-28 | UPDATES #141 | War Without the Vote: US–Israel strikes on Iran, the law they skipped, and the Ukraine knock-on effects. It's Saturday 28 February 2026 and the U.S. is at war with Iran. It finally happened. The United States has launched strikes on Iran alongside Israel — and the White House is calling this “major combat operations.” Is this an unambiguous declaration of war, or something more akin to the Russian phrase SVO “special military operation?”Here's the issue: this is an act that looks and feels like war — without the constitutional process and indeed ritual that's supposed to precede war. No vote. No mandate. No consultation with lawmakers even – which would usually be the minimal possible bar to meet before any such operation. No coalition of allies you can point to and say, “this is collective security.” Just jets, missiles, and the drama of one criminal regime attacking another.----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/scaling-up-campaign-to-fight-authoritarian-disinformation----------A REQUEST FOR HELP!I'm heading back to Kyiv this week, to film, do research and conduct interviews. Why does the collapse of Maduro's regime in Venezuela send shockwaves all the way to China, Iran, and Russia? What connects these distant powers? And what direction will America now take with the likes of Zohran Kwame Mamdani commanding New York City, and President Trump commanding U.S. foreign policy? We discuss: • The U.S. seizure of Nicolás Maduro — a justified action or an illegal abduction? • Trump declares he's “Locked & Loaded” in support of the Iranian revolutionaries — will there be a war between the Mullahs in Iran and the United States? • Will Jews leave New York and move to Israel now that Mamdani has taken power? Tamar speaks with Dr. Benedict Beckeld (www.BenedictBeckeld.com ) — philosopher and expert on Oikophobia — in this case, the current Western trend of despising one's own culture while praising others. Former Israeli Ambassador Warns That Iran, Russia, and China Are Expanding Terror Sleeper Cells Across the US - Alan Skorski Reports

Retired Israeli Ambassador Yoram Ettinger warned in an interview that the United States and Israel are misplacing focus on Gaza and proxy groups while the core danger remains Iran, which he likened to a swamp spawning mosquitoes. “Chasing Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah is like chasing mosquitoes coming out of the Ayatollah's swamp,” Ettinger told interviewer Alan Skorski. The comments come after President Trump's 20-point Middle East peace plan and a joint U.S.-Israel operation inside Iran on June 13 that severely damaged Tehran's capabilities. Despite the setback, Ettinger said Russia, China and North Korea continue to rearm the Islamic Republic, endangering Israel and all U.S. interests in the region, including oil-producing Arab states. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance and top U.S. generals have visited Israel since the June strike, Ettinger noted. A 2026 threat assessment jointly compiled by the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Director of National Intelligence warns that Iran, Russia and China are expanding sleeper-cell terror networks inside the United States, the ambassador said. On Palestinian statehood, Ettinger cited decades of PLO violence — from the 1960s and 1970s in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon to the 1990s when Yasser Arafat's group backed Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait despite Kuwait hosting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with full rights. “Every Arab country knows what a Palestinian state would mean,” he said. Saudi Arabia and others publicly tie normalization with Israel to Palestinian statehood, but Ettinger called it “talking the talk, not walking the walk.” President Trump's recent declaration against Israeli annexation of the West Bank is temporary and diplomatic, not a permanent endorsement of a future Palestinian state there, Ettinger said. Granting statehood to the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria runs counter to U.S. interests, he added. Alan Skorski Reports 05NOV2025 - PODCAST
