This week we intended to focus solely on the Notre Dame offensive line and the job that Jeff Quinn has done on the recruiting trail and on the field, but Marcus Freeman and Mike Elston also forced us to spend a good bit of time talking about how ridiculous DE recruiting has been. We also did a deep dive into what Jeff Quinn has done well - spoiler it's a lot - and where he still has something to prove as the Offensive Line Coach at Notre Dame. We also learned a very valuable lesson this week - don't let Greg try to record the podcast from his car because it only leads to having to re-record the whole damn show.

There are major question marks along the offensive line, and plenty of things we are concerned about. We aren't all that high on Marshall transfer Cain Madden, we're nervous about starting two freshmen and aren't sold on position coach Jeff Quinn. But what if we are wrong and those question marks become strengths? That could mean very, very good news for Notre Dame Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Notre Dame had one of the premier offensive lines in the country in 2020, but much of the reason for that success is gone. That includes four starters and graduate assistant coach Chris Watt. All the departures had strong links with former line coach Harry Hiestand. With that bridge between the Jeff Quinn era and the Hiestand era now gone, the 2021 season becomes the official beginning of the Quinn era in South Bend. Learn more about your ad choices. Joshua welcomes back the original Podfather, Irish Tightness (or just a guy named Wes) to talk about the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program. In this episode - well... there's a lot going on here, and in our historically typical fashion, we jump around quite a bit. Here are some keywords: Brian Kelly. Ian Book. Ceiling construction. #RTDB Air Kelly. Many Charlie Weis references. Recruiting wide receivers. Some guy named Kyren Williams. Next man in on the coaching staff. Marcus Freeman. Jeff Quinn. We had the pleasure of interviewing frontman James Priestner of Rare Americans. Rare Americans released their new single “Gas Mask” today. Each of their songs is accompanied by an animated visual, together they tell an interconnected story set in a world the band has dubbed “Crooked City.” Their single “Hullabaloo” was released a few weeks ago and the video already has over a million views – watch it HERE. They recently released another song called “Berlin,” listen HERE. Their animations have earned more than 50 million YouTube views and gained them nearly 250,000 subscribers. The new singles follow “Brittle Bones Nicky” and other recent releases “Milk Man,” “Ryan and Dave” and “Cats, Dogs and Rats.” They also have a song on the soundtrack for the movie SCOOB! That recently came out – listen HERE.BIO:Welcome to the slanted world of Rare Americans. Formed in Vancouver, Canada in 2018 by front-man James Priestner and guitarist Lubo Ivan, the band invites you to take a peek into its colorful universe, dubbed Crooked City. Crooked City is a place to unlock your mind. To be creative. To challenge any and all ideas in a thought-provoking way. To gain access to the doors of your own mind. A place to feed your interests and your passions. A place where culture and morals are created. The adventure of Rare Americans began when dumb luck struck brothers James and Jared Priestner on a trip to the Caribbean. A joke led them to open a door to the realm of songwriting and within days the first Rare Americans songs were born. With the brothers sharing songwriting duties, they enlisted musical comrade Lubo Ivan on guitar and soon recruited bassist/engineer Jeff Quinn to join Rare Americans’ creative pursuits. The band is rounded out by Jan Cajka on backing vocals/guitar and Duran Ritz on drums. With “Hullabaloo” and more new music to come, Rare Americans invite you to explore a whole new world of possibilities if you just let yourself open the doors of your mind.We want to hear from you! The mailbag had so many questions and was so long that we had to split it into two parts. In part one, Irish Breakdown publisher Bryan Driskell gives two reasons why Notre Dame will win the national championship in 2020, and two reasons why it wont. That is followed by a question and answer that discusses whether or not Notre Dame's 33-6 record the last three seasons is marred by an inability to beat big teams, the decision to retain Jeff Quinn compared to Brian VanGorder, why John McNulty was hired without a a track record of recruiting success, the quarterback regression at Notre Dame and the running back position. So many great questions from the Irish Breakdown subscribers! Patrick, Mike and Chad tell the story of our dear friend Jeff Quinn—the subject of our song "The Man From Omaha"—who passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in February 2015. Jeff’s spirit was so strong that it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. In the short time we knew him, every second of his life was a celebration, and we were honored to be a part of it. He loved to laugh and was always smiling. His friendship also gave us a whole new extended family and second home in Omaha, Nebraska, something we know will always endure. (This episode is put together from two different recording sessions: one from several months ago with just Patrick and Chad, and another with Mike recorded yesterday afternoon.) DIQ 015: Maximize Your Time in Your Current Job Today, the topic of the show is 5 ways maximize your time while you’re still working at your current job. In the last week or so on the Day I Quit blog, I’ve talked a lot about this. When I interviewed Angela Proffitt for the last podcast, it struck me that she was using so much of the knowledge she gained during the 10 years she was working a job as a therapist to set herself apart and excel at her wedding planning business that she’s doing now. The fact is, she probably wouldn’t have grown her business so quickly if she hadn’t learned everything she learned working a job. This is the same with many of the other people who I’ve interviewed like Trevor Page, a java programmer, Jeff Quinn, a magician and Amber Campion, a yoga instructor. They’ve all used the time they spent in their 9-5 jobs wisely to increase their chances of being successful when they make the switch to being self-employed. Wouldn’t it make a huge difference if you maximized the time you’re spending at your current job instead of being miserable every day? Wouldn’t it be awesome if you didn’t feel like you’re wasting away your life before that magical day comes when you finally hand in your resignation? How much more successful would you be if you utilized the time you have RIGHT NOW? Check out this podcast episode to learn what you can start doing right now that will excel you towards your goal of quitting your job and working for yourself.
