On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping the latest disappointing road game effort for the Trojans, getting pushed around on the line of scrimmage by the Fighting Irish in a 34-24 loss. Notre Dame ran for a ridiculous 306 including a record-setting 228 yards by ND tailback Jeremiyah Love, the most by a Fighting Irish player in the history of this series and the most ever by an ND player in Notre Dame Stadium. USC simply couldn't run the ball, gaining just 68 yards on the ground at a 2.3 yards per carry clip, and turned the ball over three times in the second half, dooming any chances of a comeback against the rival Irish. The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including the Notre Dame game plan to play a tight, physical contest all over the field and endure any pass interference calls that came along with it. The Trojans also failed to capitalize following any of the huge plays they generated, allowing the Irish to steal the momentum back almost immediately after the impressive opening touchdown drive, the Makai Lemon 42-yard reception and the Ja'Kobi Lane go ahead touchdown and two point conversion. Following the loss, USC once again fell out of the AP top-25 and once again will go into a bye week looking for answers to why the team played so poorly away from the friendly confines of the Coliseum. Mike Frank and Greg Flammang give reaction and analysis to Notre Dame's 34-24 victory over #21 USC on a rainy night in Notre Dame Stadium. Jeremiyah Love was the star, rushing for 228 yards and a touchdown, but was not to be outdone by his running mate Jadarian Price who rushed for 87 yards on his own, with a touchdown, and also notched a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the second kickoff return touchdown of his career against USC. The defense held strong in the 4th quarter and the Irish held on for victory, moving them to 5-2 on the season and seemingly with a great chance at a college football playoff berth as they head into their bye week.
USC is no longer a soft team! Lincoln Riley and his staff have developed a quality offensive line via high school recruiting and not the Transfer Portal. But is it enough to pound on the Irish inside Notre Dame Stadium?Makai Lemon is another homegrown recruit; he's playing like the best receiver in the nation. The matchup with Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore will be special! Jamie Uyeyama and Greg Flammang preview the longest standing intersectional rivalry in college football, Notre Dame vs USC this Saturday in Notre Dame Stadium. It figures to be wet and cold, with a good bit of wind, and possible lightning. The boys talk about the effect it could have on both teams, the matchups that will be impacted, and then make predictions.
Jamie Uyeyama and Greg Flammang of Irish Sports Daily preview and make predictions for the upcoming matchup between Notre Dame and NC State in Notre Dame Stadium. The Wolfpack have a high powered offense led by quarterback CJ Bailey and running back Hollywood Smothers. The Irish defense has improved over the last three games, but will be tested again by an offense averaging 34 points a game. The Notre Dame offense figures to have a significant advantage over the NC State defense, which has surrendered 25 points a game and face an Irish offense that is explosive and efficient with CJ Carr at QB and Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price at running back.

Greg Flammang of Irish Sports Daily recaps Notre Dame's 3 touchdown victory over the Boise State Broncos in Notre Dame Stadium. It was an ugly affair due to 24 combined penalties and 224 penalty yards, but in between flags the Irish defense put together a second consecutive strong performance. They allowed 7 points, pressured Boise 33 times, and registered 4 interceptions. The Notre Dame running backs of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price combined for 24 carries and 186 plus another two touchdowns to lead the Irish offense once again.
The Irish Sports Daily staff provides instant reaction and postgame analysis to Notre Dame vs Boise State in Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish missed on some big opportunities in the first half with a major yardage and per play advantage, but still lead 14-7. The Irish went on to win the second half 14-0 and take the victory 28-7. Tune in to hear the boys discuss the game, what they liked, what they didn't like, and everything in between.
Lamar Mickey, father of former Notre Dame cornerback Jaden Mickey, joins the Third & Gold Podcast to discuss his son's upcoming return to Notre Dame Stadium with Boise State, Jaden's health following a scary collision in last weekend's game against App State, how difficult it was for Jaden to step away from ND's team last season, the way ND's coaching staff has treated the Mickey family, the importance of him graduating from ND, how Jaden ended up at Boise State after initially committing to transfer to Cal, the experience of watching the College Football Playoff last season, how Lamar is helping others following the passing of his wife in late 2023 and more. Then Eric Hansen and Tyler James answer questions from X/Twitter and The Lou Somogyi Board (40:10). Third & Gold Podcast is presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors: https://www.academy.com/c/backpack

On Off The Bench and The Stone Shields Show today we discuss the Bengals potentially adding a veteran QB, Zac Taylor's comments at his press conference, Monday Night Football and more! Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! The Cincinnati Bengals' 2-0 start hit a gut-wrenching snag when star quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a Grade 3 turf toe injury in their 31-27 thriller over the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 14. Burrow, who threw for 76 yards and a touchdown before exiting, underwent surgery and faces at least three months sidelined—potentially until mid-December. Backup Jake Browning stepped up admirably, completing 21 of 32 passes for 241 yards, two scores, and three picks, including a game-winning 1-yard sneak with 18 seconds left. With Burrow out, whispers of a veteran addition swirl. Analysts eye Atlanta's Kirk Cousins for his experience, though his $24.4 million salary looms large, or Tampa Bay's Jameis Winston for a low-cost cannon arm to sling to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. A Jimmy Garoppolo trade from the Rams could add Super Bowl savvy cheaply, but Cincinnati's confidence in Browning—fresh off a 4-3 stint in 2023—might keep them steady for now. Shifting to college gridiron glory, No. 16 Texas A&M stunned No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 in a Saturday night heart-stopper at Notre Dame Stadium on September 13. Sophomore QB Marcel Reed dazzled with 360 passing yards, two TDs, and a crucial 11-yard strike to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds left, capping a 74-yard drive. The Aggies (3-0) overcame a botched extra point on ND's late score, avenging last year's 23-13 loss with a prolific air attack—unlike their prior ground-and-pound struggle. Notre Dame (1-2) squandered a 40-34 lead, their playoff dreams dimming after a national title game run last season; defensive lapses and a blocked punt return TD haunted the Irish. A&M's road ranked win, first since 2014, signals SEC contender status under Mike Elko. Monday Night Football capped Week 2 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers edging the Houston Texans 20-19 on September 15, moving to 2-0 via late-game magic. Baker Mayfield outdueled C.J. Stroud, engineering a final drive for Rachaad White's 2-yard TD plunge with six ticks left. Tampa's 169 rushing yards overwhelmed Houston's 84, with Bucky Irving (71) and White (65) pounding the rock; Emeka Egbuka's screen TD gave the Bucs their first lead. The Texans (0-2) faltered on red-zone stalls and special teams woes, including a blocked punt; Nick Chubb's 25-yard score off a return couldn't salvage it. Houston's AFC South title repeat now teeters, while Mayfield's heroics echo his Week 1 rally. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio continuing our early Trojan opponent previews, taking a look at the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Iowa comes to the Coliseum on Saturday, November 15 for homecoming weekend, with the game kicking off at either noon or 12:30 p.m. PT. The Hawkeyes have been great on defense, special teams and in the run game, but incompetent passing the football. Can Iowa turn that around one of the worst passing offenses in the country? To do so, offensive coordinator Tim Lester went out and upgraded his receivers and brought in quarterback Mark Gronowski from South Dakota State. USC travels to Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18 with a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT. The Fighting Irish are coming off an appearance in the national championship game against Ohio State and are looking to make another College Football Playoffs run. This is the last scheduled game in the long-standing rivalry, one that has been lopsided towards the Irish as of late. What will USC need to do to get its first win in South Bend since 2011? Ryan and Connor also discuss how USC quarterback commit Jonas Williams finished the the Elite 11 Finals, the "Play Like a Trojan" philanthropic event on campus this week hosted by Trojan linebacker Anthony Beavers and the latest open USC basketball practice that included five-star freshman Alijah Arenas addressing the media for the first time, talking about his April late night car crash coming home from a shooting session. For college football blue bloodsNotre Dame and Ohio State, the realities of modern big time college football are a whole new ball game. The challenges can be as simple as trying to change the seating at Notre Dame Stadium, or as complicated as justifying the NIL money needed to pursue the best talent in the field. So today - ESPN senior writer Ryan McGee, reports from the site of tonight's College Football Playoff National Championship, to explain how for coaches Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman getting to this point means having already triumphed over the expectations of the past. Will do the same thing in every play off game we play in this year. Am I drinking kool-aid or are you all in? * Friday and Saturday's CFP games will go chalk * The largest margin of victory from highest to lowest: Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, Ohio State * Highest scoring game: Penn State/SMU * Lowest scoring game: Ohio State/Tennessee * This is the most important game ever played at Notre Dame Stadium. We in or we out? * Ausberry, Drayk Bowen and Jaylen Sneed will make big plays Friday night * Mitchell Evans and Eli Raridon will be the X-factor in the ND offense. * Love and Price will be the difference * The presence of a vocal and variably obnoxious IU contingent, together with the absence of cold-intolerant older fans, will arouse the presence and volume of the Notre Dame crowd to its highest level in recent memory. A high level view of ND vs the other 11 teams in the 2024 playoffs. ND vs IU at home for the first every playoff game in Notre Dame Stadium
The 12-team College Football Playoff field is set. Notre Dame gets a No. 7 seed and a home game against No. 10 Indiana. Did the selection committee get it right? How could the format be tweaked, even now, to better improve the process/product? What about the weather? Tickets? Hotels? We discuss everything that surrounds the first-ever CFP post-season game at Notre Dame Stadium on Friday, December 20 game - but not the game itself. That hype train will pick up serious steam next week. For now, we look back on the 2024 regular-season finale against USC and take a peek and what the next week holds for the Irish.
Pete Sampson recaps Notre Dame's season-defining (and capping) win over USC that will clinch a berth in the College Football Playoff for Marcus Freeman and the Irish. Riley Leonard threw for 155 yards and a touchdown while Jadarian Price led the team in rushing with 111 yards. The Irish will now await the selection show for their place in the playoff and find out who they will likely be hosting at Notre Dame Stadium.
WSBT Sports Director Pete Byrne discusses the points in the season after the Northern Illinois loss that he felt Notre Dame could and would end up in a position to play in the College Football Playoff, the growth of quarterback Riley Leonard and head coach Marcus Freeman, how good running back Jeremiyah Love has been, the improvement on ND's offensive line, the most impressive part of ND's defense, the trajectory of USC's program, his expectations for what a playoff game in Notre Dame Stadium would be like and more. Today's Rapid Fire topics include: * We discuss the comments from a USA Today writer who says Notre Dame doesn't deserve to host a first round College Football Playoff game because of its loss to Northern Illinois. He says that he has no problem with the Irish being in the playoff, but they should not be ranked ahead of the two-loss SEC teams because of the loss to NIU and because the SEC teams all played better competition. * Joey Galloway said on ESPN's College Football Playoff ranking show that Indiana's chances to make the playoffs go from 97% right now to 96% if they lose to Ohio State. So, he says with that in mind he would just sit QB Blake Rourke against the Buckeyes to prevent a Florida State Jordan Travis situation like last year. Do you Buy or Sell it? * We rate Notre Dame special teams coordinator Marty Biagi's "chaos kills" slogan as well as how last week's fake punt touchdown that was called back may have still impacted the energy inside Notre Dame Stadium. * There's speculation about Deion Sanders' future in Colorado with his success there this season. But Sanders says he's happy where he is "I've got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? ... That means I'm resting. I'm good, I'm happy, I'm excited. I'm enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do." Do you believe him? * Glenn Powell, who played Hangman in Top Gun Maverick...recently had this to say when asked about reports that Tom Cruise wants Powell to take over the Mission Impossible franchise: “Mom would never let me do that.” We share our thoughts. * Gladiator 2 is out in theaters this weekend. How excited are you for it? * In Gladiator spirit, if you had to pick a Notre Dame player to battle for your life in the arena, who would you pick? It's the second year the Irish have had two byes. Do you Buy or Sell two-bye week seasons? * On a scale of 1 to 10...What's your confidence that Notre Dame scores more than 30 points in each of its four remaining games? * Over/Under...45 total points Notre Dame's defense will allow in the last four games of the regular season. * Florida State has scored 14 total touchdowns this season. Do you Buy or Sell them having 14 first downs against the Irish? * Fill-in the blank...The prospects of a Notre Dame vs Indiana playoff game at Notre Dame Stadium is BLANK. * Thoughts on Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge calling the game for NBC this week. * Fill-in the blank...This week's Alabama – LSU game means BLANK for the losing coach. * Thoughts on Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes and his lady friend Livvy Dunne as the guest pickers for GameDay this week. * Notre Dame - Florida State game props and score predictions! Irish Breakdown answers subscriber submitted "We In or We Out" questions about Notre Dame football on today's show. Some of today's questions include: * We In or We Out: The swing pass to Jeremiyah Love that keeps going for negative yardage is going to be used to set up a huge play with a pump fake to the swing pass followed by a deep shot. * In or Out: The Notre Dame defense gets a shutout before the regular season ends. * We In / We Out: The defense continues to play at the high level it is now the remainder of the year and all the injuries they've accumulated do not end up costing them in one of these last Games. * We In/ We Out : ND is at least 9 and at the worst 10 in these first CFP Rankings. * We In/We Out: Notre dame gets dropped out of the top 10 by staying Idle this week because they get jumped by the likes of BYU, Clemson and Iowa State * In or Out: The Eagles crush the Cowboys terribly on Nov. 10 that Jesse Stires gives up on them and becomes a browns only fan! * Notre Dame Stadium is haunted by more than the ghosts of the NIU home loss. We in or We out? * This Notre Dame football team will have a better chance to get through the first round of the playoffs if they are seeded 9-12 and play an away game at a hostile place where the world is against them than playing at home against a lesser opponent. * If ND runs the table and LSU runs the table but loses in the SEC championship, they have good odds to play each other in the first round of the playoffs. We in or we out? * In this scenario, the home playoff game against LSU would create the most raucous ND crowd in the past decade. We in or we out?? * More! Today's Rapid Fire topics include: * Fill-in the blank...You feel BLANK about Notre Dame's playoff chances right now. * An IB subscriber has concerns about what Notre Dame Stadium would look like if the Fighting Irish host a College Football Playoff game since the game would be run by the CFP and not the school. We share our thoughts on that prospect. * Which is the worse loss...Alabama falling to Vanderbilt or Notre Dame falling to Northern Illinois? * We look at the preseason over/under win totals for Notre Dame opponents coming into the season and see where they stand. * Notre Dame women's basketball player KK Bransford announced she's going to redshirt this season as she deals with a lingering leg injury. We discuss the impact. * Fill-in the blank...MLB putting “Strauss” decals on batting helmets for the playoffs is BLANK. * San Diego Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada says he doesn't think the Padres should have to play game five of their ALDS series against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium if the series gets that far. Estrada says MLB commissioner Rob Manfred should not allow it after Sunday's game had to be delayed for 10 minutes because Dodgers fans were throwing bottles, beer cans and baseballs at Padres players. Do you Buy or Sell it? * Thoughts on The Blair Witch Project.
