A network of evangelical Christian groups has been working for the past 18 months to coordinate a massive outreach to share Jesus with the people in the region which hosts the Games, and with all those people who come from all over to attend. Some of these people have never had an encounter with Christianity, even though they are citizens of some nations that the friendly to this faith. Some of the volunteer evangelists are sharing Good News with people from places and cultures where, back home, Christianity is banned. He says though, that he sees signs that a continent which has increasing become defined as "post-Christian", the culture appears to be, in any places, entering a "pre-Rivival" mode.     Bonus factoid:  The group of groups chose the name "Ensemble" to show how they are united across cultural and historical and theological distinctives -- and because the same spelling of the same word has the same meaning, across multiple languages.   -   -   -   -   - Tom Hawkins spoke to Family Life News Producer Greg Gillispie this week, via Zoom, from Paris. Snapshot is a more brief format for introducing listeners to complex concepts they may not be familiar with. We take big ideas and distill them into a bite-sized format so you can get an understanding of these ideas through a particular lens. We'll explore ideas like moneterism, historical materialism, or opportunity cost, and how they are relevant to the real world. You don't have to be an expert on economics, we'll explain it to you. For our discussion today, we will be talking to our returning guest, Mr. Tom Rossman. Mr. Rossman is a financier and investor, who specializes in developing nations and emerging markets. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Mr. Rossman helped establish investment institutions in Turkey, former Soviet Union states, and North Africa. Throughout his career, Tom has helped nations democratize and sustainably develop to bring new opportunities to these regions. He has spoken at conferences across the world from Baku to London to Houston. He received his bachelor's degree in history and religious studies from Nyack College and earned his master's from Tufts in international relations. Currently, he is an advisor to the Telosa Community Foundation; a group hoping to build a futuristic from-scratch city that will revolutionize urban living. Mr. Rossman introduces us to the concept of equitism. When most social scientists discuss fairness, they usually mention equality or equity. Equitism takes these ideas a step further. Equitism is a system in which city people own or have a stake in the land. In theory, this should give them more power to determine their socioeconomic outcomes. Together we discussed a brief history of economic thought, how equitism reconfigures capitalism, and how a more even distribution of land can improve environmental outcomes. For the 300th episode of the show, we are joined by a special guest, Dr David Ireland. In this important conversation he speaks with Mike about the importance of preachers having a clear argument in their message and a persuasiveness in their presentation. He speaks about his preparation process which involves reading himself full, thinking himself clear and praying himself hot. There is also two stories that he shares about prophetic dreams and visions that have both called him into ministry and have given him insight into a need for his own personal growth. Dr. David Ireland is founder and lead pastor of Christ Church, a thriving 10,000-member multiracial, multisite worship community in northern New Jersey. He and his wife, Marlinda, have been married since 1984 and have two adult daughters and a son-in-law.Dr. Ireland grew up in Queens, New York and invited Jesus Christ to become the Lord of his life during college. At that time he was an engineering student. Dr. Ireland earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a master's degree in civil engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Shortly after he began working in consulting engineering, he answered God's call to plant a new church. In 1986, with only six other adults, the Irelands founded what is now known as Christ Church.Early in the life of the church, Dr. Ireland sensed God's heart deeply leading him to become intentional about ensuring that the church would reflect the multiracial mix of society. Dr. Ireland poignantly remembers the moment he tearfully embraced the church's God-given mission to unite people to God and people to people. “I was on a routine errand for my then-pregnant wife in a local supermarket when suddenly I became mesmerized by the melting pot of races gathered in the store,” Dr. Ireland says. “At that precise moment I heard the Holy Spirit speak this question to my heart, 'David, why can't it be like this in My house?' I knew right then and there that God wanted me to grow and lead a multiracial, multiethnic congregation.”While leading Christ Church, Dr. Ireland has also authored over 20 books including What Color is Your God?, Secrets of a Satisfying Life, One in Christ, The Skin You Live In, and The Kneeling Warrior: Winning Your Battles Through Prayer and has earned a master's degree in theology from Alliance Theological Seminary and an earned doctorate degree in organizational leadership from Regent University. He completed his post-doctoral education at the University of Pennsylvania, and holds a postgraduate degree in social innovation from the University of Cambridge in England. Dr. Ireland formerly served as an adjunct professor at Drew University focusing on training doctoral students in the area of leadership and church growth.Former diversity consultant to the National Basketball Association, Dr. Ireland has led chapel services for the New York Giants, New York Jets, and at the U.S. Pentagon. Ireland has appeared on numerous television shows including The Dr. Phil Show, The CBS Evening News, and The 700 Club. Through his community development corporation, he offers a youth leadership institute, as well as a statewide abstinence-based program in partnership with New Jersey schools. The Reverend Ireland is an appointed member of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Faith-Based Initiatives and serves on the boards of Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary.Resources Mentioned: A Rulebook for Arguments - Anthony Weston: https://hackettpublishing.com/a-rulebook-for-arguments-4146 The preaching of A.B. Today our discussion comes from our most recent annual conference: Why is Housing so Unaffordable? Causes and Solutions. These next 4 episodes will conclude our annual conference content. We hope you enjoyed it, and we're looking forward to seeing you at next year's conference. For our program today, we were joined by Mr. Together, we discussed how we can design cities to be more inclusive and sustainable, if we are in a second gilded age, and why a sense of community has been missing from neighborhoods for the past few decades. How does the way we know and understand the attributes of God help us be a community of ezers? In this podcast, Jessica Brooks introduces us to the Reader-Response Theory revealing the difference in how our interpretation of God's word through the western cultural context is very different from the ancient Hebrew context of seeing and ascribing value to the 'ezer' attribute of God. Jessica helps us to see how Moses went through spiritual formation, protection and accountability through his ezer (helper) community. Zipporah's ezer actions protected and propelled Moses into his calling as a prophet of God while Jethro and his community were a model for his priestly calling. Who are you protecting, guiding, and holding accountable in your ezer community? Jessica Brooks graduated with an M.Div. from Nyack College's Alliance Theological Seminary in 2017, with a focus on Bible, Theology, and the Hebrew Bible. She completed ThM in Church History from Princeton Theological Seminary. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Intercultural Studies at Columbia International University focusing on church history.
