Alasdair, Barlow and Michael are joined by Ninad Barbidikar to discuss and analyse the latest European football news. The boys look at Bayer Leverkusen's era-defining spring, Jagoba Arrasate's emotional Osasuna farewell, Igor Tudor's inevitable Serie A return and more. 1:45 - How might we explain Juventus's spectacular drop-off in form since the end of January? / 20:00 - Could Jonathan Burkardt be the man to almost single-handedly drag Bo Henriksen's Mainz up the table and clear of the relegation dogfight? / 39:40 - In what sense would a win for Mallorca in Saturday's Copa del Rey final eclipse the club's 2003 Samuel Eto'o-inspired Copa del Rey triumph?
It's a Tuesday evening so it's time for a new Viola Station. No McMike today, so it's just Producer Mike and Tito to run through the doldrums of the international break. First and foremost, your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots discuss their shock and grief at the untimely passing of Viola president Joe Barone last week. There's obviously nothing about this we can spin into humor or even lightheartedness. It's just heartbreaking. Our next topic of discussion was the international friendlies that a number of Fiorentina players popped up in; there wasn't much to report, so we instead focused on some guys who may have deserved a call (paging Luca Ranieri). We then shifted to this upcoming summer, which sounds like it'll be as topsy-turvy as ever for this team, what with Vincenzo Italiano on his way out and Arthur Melo unlikely to be redeemed. Along the way, we learn that McMike's absence doesn't protect him from strays, that Hines finally betrays his lack of American patriotism, and that Tito has a surprise candidate for next year's manager. Big thank you to the folks at Sport Social Media Network for hosting the pod, and big thank you to Windchime Weather for the music. Finally, a big thank you to you for listening. Hit us up on the website or on Twitter if you've got any questions, and forza Viola! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
This week's episode discusses Gio Reyna in the USA vs Jamaica game, what European title races are the most exciting, the reaction to the first round of the US Open Cup, ESPN's poor coverage of the FA Cup, The Athletic's cozy relationship with MLS, and a tribute to Joe Barone. There's more soccer on streaming now than ever before that it's sometimes hard to find common ground with fellow soccer fans. It often feels like two worlds colliding — the mainstream soccer games against niche leagues. Despite this, there's enough soccer for people to choose from. No matter which teams or leagues we're all watching, there are plenty of things in common to discuss. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

[This is part one of a two-part episode. Make sure to catch part two later this week!] What We Discuss with Joe Barone: What it was like being born into -- and growing up in -- a crime family, and how Joe was swayed into the life in spite of aspiring to become a postman. The real glue that ties mob families together has nothing to do with honor or unity. How his father's murder was used to turn Joe into an FBI informant for 18 years. What it was like for Joe to live a double life among mobsters -- keeping his cool while fearing for his life -- during those 18 years as an informant. How much does it cost to hire mafia "assistance" in intimidating or eliminating a personal archnemesis? And much more... Scott Mason talks with former NHL PR Rep Joe Barone and Rob Pelaez of Blank Slate Media to discuss their first annual Sam Ol' Jets Tournament! Joe and Rob are both lifelong Jets fans from a families of lifelong Jets fans, so what happened when they put their heads together? They created the first annual Same Ol' Jets Tournament in the mold of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament! But what makes this tournament different is that it is not about the best or worst moments in Jets history, but the "Jetsiest" moments in Jets history, meaning events that only could have happened to the Jets. The beauty of the tournament is that while you will see all the familiar favorites and recent moments, there are a ton of fun historical deep cuts that span the 50+ year existence of the franchise that only hardcore Jets fans would know about. Joe and Rob both did a terrific job of putting these brackets together and drew well from their own memories, the memories of family members, and exhaustive research on the team's history. One of the most fun episodes we have ever done and if you are a Jets fan, you will absolutely love it.
