Sonny Gray, Tyler Mahle, Joe Ryan, Kenta Maeda and Bailey Ober round out what should be a deeper group with Simeon Woods Richardson, Josh Winder and Louie Varland ready to step in when needed. The Minnesota Twins were solid all year long at Target Field and they'll close the season with at least a series win at home. The Twins scored eight runs and relied on their bullpen in a victory over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night. Josh Winder was solid until the fifth, when he ran into trouble and Rocco Baldelli turned to Caleb Thielbar to escape the jam. Jake Cave had a strong night with two doubles and Matt Wallner added two hits himself. The Twins are tied for second in the Central (woohoo) with a 76-79 record. The Minnesota Twins managed only one victory in their four-game home series against the Chicago White Sox. The boys are disappointed as the Twins now head into the All-Star break only 2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and only 3 games ahead of the Chicago White Sox. The guys discuss the failures on both sides of the ball throughout the series, as well as the pitching needs that must be addressed by the front office at the trade deadline. The boys try and find the silver lining in a very gloomy series by reflecting on the solid performances by Byron Buxton and Jorge Polanco. Dan wants to know if the upcoming stretch of off days between the All-Star break and weird scheduling will be helpful to the Twins, and David wants to know if this team is better with Chris Archer or Josh Winder in the rotation. In Herbie's Headlines Dan talks his second-choice team Mariners historic win-streak, and the boys make their picks for the upcoming Tigers series. Farm Friday w/ the Minnesota Twins - their hitting talent skews between either pure contact w/ little power or Three True Outcomes, huh?

Locked On MLB Prospects

On today's "Farm Friday" show, we're talking Minnesota Twins. It's a system that has a LOT of two distinct types of hitters: Pure contact guys with little power, and Three True Outcomes sluggers who strike out a lot. In A ball, OF Emmanuel Rodriguez (#3) looks like he might be the guy that can do both, while SS Noah Miller is a smooth defender that is looking to build his power. So is 1B Aaron Sabato, in High-A Cedar Rapids. In AA Wichita, Austin Martin and Edouard Julien are both pure hitters with varying levels of power - Julien more than Martin - with defensive questions, while there's a few pitchers here that could end up being dudes with some refinement - Simeon Woods Richardson, Matt Canterino, and local kid Louis Varland. In AAA St. Paul, INF Spencer Steer has made his presence known by adding power to his contact hitter profile, and with his defensive versatility across the infield, is definitely going to get a shot soon. OF Matt Wallner has tons of power but some wing and miss concerns (and reminds me a lot of Braves OF Adam Duvall.) And several of the top guys are already up, with INFs Jose Miranda and Royce Lewis playing regularly at the big league level and Joe Ryan and Josh Winder having varying levels of success at the big league level. Find and follow LockedOn MLB Prospects on your favorite podcast platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/locked-on-mlb-prospects/id1525225214Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2wzJIf26tGgVbB7rsoKyLDStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/locked-on-mlb-prospectsFollow along with LockedOn MLB Prospects host Lindsay Crosby as we follow 120+ affiliated teams throughout the 2022 season! Locked On MLB Prospects
Farm Friday w/ the Minnesota Twins - their hitting talent skews between either pure contact w/ little power or Three True Outcomes, huh?

Find and follow LockedOn MLB Prospects on your favorite podcast platforms: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/locked-on-mlb-prospects/id1525225214 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2wzJIf26tGgVbB7rsoKyLD Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/locked-on-mlb-prospects Follow along with LockedOn MLB Prospects host Lindsay Crosby as we follow 120+ affiliated teams throughout the 2022 season! However Griner’s wife, Cherelle, said Tuesday on a morning talk show that she hadn’t heard from Biden. The trial will resume Thursday. NCAA – Pac-12 accelerates negotiations for media rights deals The Pac-12 is pushing up negotiations for its next media rights agreements in the wake of the decision by UCLA and USC to leave for the Big Ten. The Pac-12 announced that its board of directors has authorized negotiations. The conference’s current media rights deal expires in 2024, but the Pac-12 accelerated the timeline for negotiations for the next one with two of its marquee programs headed out the door. NHL – NHL Draft: Teams weigh risks of selecting Russian prospects The war in Ukraine has added an increasing level of uncertainty for teams looking at Russia-born prospects in this week’s NHL draft. There are fresh questions regarding their availability to play in North America. There is the potential of Russia being shut out in the first round for the first time since 2005. The concerns include when and whether Russian players will be able to travel to play in North America. The draft will be held Thursday and Friday in Montreal. NHL – Agent: Top NHL goalie prospect sent to Russian military base The North American agent for Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect Ivan Fedotov says he is at a remote military base in northern Russia. Fedotov vanished last week ahead of a planned move to the U.S. The disappearance of one of the NHL’s top prospects prompted concern for his wellbeing and worry over whether Russians will be willing or able to join teams who draft them this weekend. Russian men can be conscripted between the ages of 18 and 27. Fedotov is 25 and considered one of the top goalies in the world not already playing in the NHL. NHL – Sharks hire Mike Grier as NHL’s first Black GM The San Jose Sharks have hired longtime NHL forward Mike Grier to become the first Black general manager in NHL history. Grier fills the spot that opened when Doug Wilson stepped away for health reasons earlier this year. He was most recently the hockey operations advisor for the New York Rangers. NHL/AHL – Jessica Campbell hired as 1st female assistant coach in AHL The Coachella Valley Firebirds have hired the American Hockey League’s first female assistant coach. However Griner’s wife, Cherelle, said Tuesday on a morning talk show that she hadn’t heard from Biden. The Phoenix Mercury center and two-time Olympic gold medalist is in the midst of a trial in Russia that began last week after she was arrested on Feb. 17 on charges of possessing cannabis oil while returning to play for her Russian team. UCLA and USC leaving for the Big Ten in 2024 will knock the Pac-12 out of the nation’s second-largest media market. Grier spent three of his 14 seasons in the NHL with the Sharks from 2006 to 2009 and he has spent the past decade filling various roles as a coach and scout around the league. He was most recently the hockey operations advisor for the New York Rangers. NHL/AHL – Jessica Campbell hired as 1st female assistant coach in AHL The Coachella Valley Firebirds have hired the American Hockey League’s first female assistant coach. David and Dan discuss the shortstop swap of a now-healthy Carlos Correa for the player who looks to be the future shortstop for the Minnesota Twins. David rises again to question the lack of late-game usage of Byron Buxton, while Dan is apparently paid by the Twins to buy the company line about preserving the centerfielder for the future. They also question why Josh Winder wasn't given a chance for a bounce-back start, and they discuss what Gary Sanchez' play does for a lineup that is finally getting healthier again. Facing the star-studded Astros without the services of their own studs, the Minnesota Twins looked helpless and hapless against Houston in a three-game sweep at Target Field. David and Dan discuss the bright spots -- the play of Luis Arraez and Nick Gordon -- as well as the dark spots (there were many). Still, Dan points out repeatedly that this is just one series; the Twins are still atop the AL Central. David wonders about how Joe Ryan and Josh Winder will respond next time out after bad performances, and he presses Dan on what sort of pitching performance can be celebrated short of a perfect game. After getting off to a slow start and losing game one to the Rays the Twins bounce back and win the series taking the next two. The offense showed its true colors scoring 18 runs over two games, after Kenta Maeda apologized for being in the dugout of game 1. The boys discuss Rocco's quick pull of Kyle Garlick once a right handed pitcher enters the game, and they wonder if Josh Winder has pitched himself into the starting rotation. David gets in hot water for saying there was no need to watch to the end of game two and Dan finds a way to be even more gracious in his grading than normal. Dan rages about the fake no-hitter thrown by the Mets entire pitching staff and still insists on leaving David solid options for Puckett's Picks.
