In particular, he defended the doctrine of believer's baptism in dialogue with his friends and fellow-townsmen, the Puritan minister John Flavel, and a local physician, Richard Burthogge. Taylor Walls has written a substantial introduction in which we meet Philip Cary, and the reader is well-served by his survey of Cary's theology. Cary's view of the law and covenant theology reveal both his continuity and discontinuity with the broader Reformed tradition.
