Lauren Olsen, formerly known as Alex H. during her time on the MTV reality series *Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County*, was born Lauren Hooser in California. She gained recognition as a cast member on the show, which premiered in 2004 and followed the lives of high schoolers in Laguna Beach, including stars like Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari. Olsen adopted the nickname “Alex H.”—derived from her middle name, Alexandria—when she moved to Laguna Beach at age 9 and began using it in school. Contrary to speculation, this choice was not influenced by MTV to differentiate her from other Laurens on the show; it was a personal decision from her childhood. After *Laguna Beach* ended in 2006, Olsen stepped away from the spotlight, where she now lives with her husband, two children. https://www.instagram.com/lalaolsen/

About this conversation: Five Times August is the pseudonym of Dallas-based pop singer-songwriter Bradley James Skistimas. Following a series of independent releases in the early aughts, he gained notoriety after every song on his long-player Fry Street (2005) was featured on the popular MTV series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. Brad is as indie as you can get. He passed up opportunities with major labels to go at his career alone. TV personality, husband, and board member of the Red Songbird Foundation, Jason Wahler, joins this week's episode of "Rooted in Recovery" to share his journey from addict and reality TV star to sobriety and mental health advocacy. Jason Wahler, a native of Laguna Beach, CA, began his addiction journey during his teenage years, which led him to abandon his dream of becoming a baseball player. In his early adulthood, MTV started shooting “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County,” which not only fueled his ego but also intensified his alcohol and drug abuse. After a traumatic experience, Wahler embarked on the rocky road to sobriety in 2010. After a relapse in 2015, Wahler knew he had to surrender to recovery for himself and his family. Wahler helps others on their road to recovery through the Red Songbird Foundation, founded by Hilary Roberts, and maintains his grounded presence in his new home base of Nashville, TN. This week, Kate goes back to the beginning. Back to where (the earth, the stars, the sun all aligned, yes) but also back to the beginning of her fascination with southern California beach culture, thanks to 2004's groundbreaking reality show, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. Due to Kristin & Stephen's podcast, the show is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance, and in case you're adding this to your holiday binge watch schedule, Kate wanted to also revisit the days of side bangs, black and white party group hangs, promposals, and jean skirt/Ugg combos now that this footage is available at our disposal on Netflix. After reminiscing about some of her takeaways upon rewatching episodes, Kate interviews former cast member that was labeled as Stephen's (but more appropriately was America's) "wingman" Dieter Schmitz to talk about seasons 1 & 2. She asks burning questions, e.g. what is his current relationship with feta cheese? Who is he still friends with? When did he feel production went over the line? How does he feel about being a supporting character who was almost in every episode? Were people as hammered as they looked at Fight the Slide 2005? Among other things. Our guests this week are stars from the early 2000s teen drama television hit show, One Tree Hill, James Lafferty, and Stephen Colletti. The buzz the show had was undeniable, and if you were a fan of the show, then you would be glad to know that your favorite characters, Nathan Scott and Chase Adams have a new project together and they talk all about it this week's episode. But first, a summary of our guests' track records in the industry. Both James and Steven landed their first acting gigs in their late teens and have since expanded their skills to writing, producing, and directing. James, started out as a series regular on One Tree Hill in 2003, having appraised one of the lead roles of the show for which he was nominated four times by the Teen Choice Awards. Actor and television personality. Stephen joined as a regular after recurring his role as Chase Adams since the show's premiere.Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and rivalry both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends in the small, but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. Here's a first look at the characters in its pilot episode:Steven has consistently worked in film and television hosting MTV specials Beach House, Spring break and the VMAs backstage live among others. He's made appearances on TV shows MTV reality television series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, VH1 2013 romance drama, Hit The Floor, and Taylor Swift's White Horse music video.Between 2009 to 2012, James began testing out the directing pond. He directed four episodes of the nine-season run of One Tree Hill and five episodes of The Royals, which he played another lead role on. In 2016, he briefly graced our screens in six episodes of Underground, the series, as Kyle Risdin. With the country on the brink of the Civil War, the struggle for freedom is more dangerous than ever. Underground follows the story of American heroes and their moving journey to freedom. The guys creatively reunited to create an original comedy television series, Everyone Is Doing Great that's streaming on Hulu. They co-directed, produced, and wrote the show. What was remarkable was that they sold an independently produced show to a major streamer, which never happens. We dive in on how they were able to do that. The seven episodes show follows Seth and Jeremy, two guys who enjoyed relative success from 'Eternal', a hit television vampire drama. Five years after their show has ended, they lean on each other as they struggle to reclaim their previous level of success and relevance, awkwardly navigating the perils of life and love amidst a humorously painful coming of age. I had lots of laughs with these two and can't wait for you to listen.Enjoy my conversation with James Lafferty & Stephen Colletti.
