“I like your pants. I like your shirt. I like your face.” And we LOVE Alex M., the breakout star of Laguna Beach's second season. Alex Murrel joins When They Popped to share her experiences and stories as a reality television pioneer and her favorite and not-so-favorite moments from the show. Alex also shares more about her post-Laguna life as a recording artist, and what she's up to now as a supermom to her young children. Let the rain fall down, and let your volume turn up, because this is a juicy one!! Laguna Beach's Alex Murrel Johnson, otherwise know as Alex M, returns. Yup, Laguna Beach. One of the granddaddy's of them all, or as we like to say, one of the best reality shows to ever exist. Alex explains what it was like to be a student at Laguna Beach High School when MTV came knocking on its door with the concept for a reality show that followed the lives, and interrelationships, of some of Orange County's more “interesting” students. Alex explains what it was like to “film” with very few reality shows, other than shows like The Real World, existing at the time. She also discusses how she felt with her “bit*h” edit once she watched the show back as the season aired. Alex also discusses what it was like to gain instant fame overnight and how life changed once that fame, and money, started to roll in. Of course, we also discuss her Laguna Beach colleagues Lauren Conrad, Jason Wahler, Stephen Colletti and Kristin Cavallari. We discuss what our fav Laguna Beach students were like way back when, and the status of each of these relationships today. Alex discusses what life was like once her time on the show ended and she moved to LA, where she initially spent a lot of time hanging out in the clubs with other friends, including some of our favorite Hill's cast members, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Brody Jenner and Spencer Pratt. During her time in Los Angeles she also partied with Celebs like Paris Hilton, Aaron Carter and ex boyfriend Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. Alex discusses just how much reality TV has changed since the early days of MTV. Finally, we answer the age old question, just how “real” was Laguna Beach / The Hills. This week we're covering Stephen Colletti's engagement before jumping into the penultimate episode of the season, “The First to Go”. Listen in as we talk about the bittersweet departure of Trey, the end of high school and beyond.
We know Chase Adams, but what do we really know about the man who played him? Where he is most comfortable, most uncomfortable, the weirdest thing he keeps next to his bed, lying, biggest regrets and so much more. It's the Stephen Colletti you've never known!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With everything going on with Bethenny Frankel's lawsuit regarding the injustices of Reality TV, real vs fake, contracts and much more, we figured it was a great time to share this chat with one of the originals, Jason Wahler from Laguna Beach, The Hills and The Hills: New Beginnings. Of course, Jason takes us back to the beginning when he was just a high school student whose friends - Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and Lo Bosworth - were cast on a TV show about their high school, otherwise known as Laguna Beach High. We discuss how Jason got involved in the show, how that show, Laguna Beach, spun off into The Hills and how, overnight, he could no longer go to the gas station or mall or mailbox without being recognized. With fame, the issues he was already struggling with became exacerbated, and he quickly spiraled out of control. There were public arrests and intoxication which eventually lead to rock bottom. Jason shares what that was like and how he eventually sought the help he needed through Dr Drew and other available resources to eventually make this his “life's work”. Jason answers all of our questions, once and for all, about what specific scenes, events and happenings in The Hills were real and which were not real. We cover it all. So interesting to see how this chat holds up in light of everything going on with Bravo, Production, Bethenny and Andy Cohen today. @jasonwahler @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: AQUATRU- aquatrue.com (20% Off Plus a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. Our guests this week are stars from the early 2000s teen drama television hit show, One Tree Hill, James Lafferty, and Stephen Colletti. The buzz the show had was undeniable, and if you were a fan of the show, then you would be glad to know that your favorite characters, Nathan Scott and Chase Adams have a new project together and they talk all about it this week's episode. But first, a summary of our guests' track records in the industry. Both James and Steven landed their first acting gigs in their late teens and have since expanded their skills to writing, producing, and directing. James, started out as a series regular on One Tree Hill in 2003, having appraised one of the lead roles of the show for which he was nominated four times by the Teen Choice Awards. Actor and television personality. Stephen joined as a regular after recurring his role as Chase Adams since the show's premiere.Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and rivalry both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends in the small, but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. Here's a first look at the characters in its pilot episode:Steven has consistently worked in film and television hosting MTV specials Beach House, Spring break and the VMAs backstage live among others. He's made appearances on TV shows MTV reality television series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, VH1 2013 romance drama, Hit The Floor, and Taylor Swift's White Horse music video.Between 2009 to 2012, James began testing out the directing pond. He directed four episodes of the nine-season run of One Tree Hill and five episodes of The Royals, which he played another lead role on. In 2016, he briefly graced our screens in six episodes of Underground, the series, as Kyle Risdin. With the country on the brink of the Civil War, the struggle for freedom is more dangerous than ever. Underground follows the story of American heroes and their moving journey to freedom. The guys creatively reunited to create an original comedy television series, Everyone Is Doing Great that's streaming on Hulu. They co-directed, produced, and wrote the show. What was remarkable was that they sold an independently produced show to a major streamer, which never happens. We dive in on how they were able to do that. The seven episodes show follows Seth and Jeremy, two guys who enjoyed relative success from 'Eternal', a hit television vampire drama. Five years after their show has ended, they lean on each other as they struggle to reclaim their previous level of success and relevance, awkwardly navigating the perils of life and love amidst a humorously painful coming of age. I had lots of laughs with these two and can't wait for you to listen.Enjoy my conversation with James Lafferty & Stephen Colletti.
Si & Veronica are feeling a new look for episode 239! We were blessed with only one night of Bachelor in Paradise this week due to the Midterm elections and it was the week of making love triangles a thing. The show really tried to force the love triangle of Kate, Logan, and Kate's love of Hayden's money on us by showing us how she gave the same story to every single girl on the beach. But at least Logan's “The Notebook” style makeout saved him. The real love triangle was between Eliza, Rodney, and Justin. Did production just do Eliza dirty to make her look sort of like the villain no matter what she chose with her rose? The beach all went wild for her choosing Rodney at the rose ceremony, but Eliza woke up still conflicted and ended up breaking his heart anyways. The interlude between the whole beach cheering for Rodney to crying for Rodney was a weird Wells third wheel date with Michael and Danielle. Nick Viall is blowing this BIP season's load by showing Victoria Fuller kissing Greg Grippo on his most recent TikTok. Gabby is back in these streets after an official split from Erich. Jacob may have went home from the beach this week, but he was gifted a couch from Lyft after Jill mentioned him selling his couch and how he worked for Lyft in her exit interview. (Bachelor talk ends at time marker 32m:12s) RIP to Aaron Carter and we hope folks struggling with addiction find the help they need. Chris Evans has been named People's Sexiest Man Alive. Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and Lauren Conrad made our early 2000s dreams come true with a reunion on the “Back to the Beach” podcast this week. There was some drama surrounding a line on one of Drake and 21 Savage's new song that might be referencing Megan Thee Stallion and her alleged assault by Tory Lanez. But Meg might get the last laugh because she is getting writing credit on “Rich Flex” from the album because of the interpolation of her song “Savage.” Vee went “Yikes!” to Nick Cannon expecting his TWELFTH child. The cringey bathtub pregnancy shoot didn't help either. Join us for what is always a good time and leave us a rating and review for a shoutout! Follow us @thefuturebachelor on Instagram!
