In Leslie's words: Like you, perhaps, my story is my Gift. The abuse & neglect I experienced throughout childhood left me feeling so disconnected that, at the age of 16, I went into the world seeking connection & acceptance. This led to a lifelong practice of giving others what I needed when I was 16 - to be seen, heard, and accepted for who I was. For years now, I have had difficulty labelling what I do, resulting in others making transformational changes after having a deep conversation with me. The reason I couldn't label what I "do" is because the value I offer others is in "being", not doing". Why this is so life-changing is twofold. The first is that Listening is a lost art in our society. The second reason is the "Illusion of the Armor" we wear. When someone like myself is vulnerable to being seen, it gives unwritten permission to others to be unapologetically seen. Many are seeing their authentic selves for the first time. This new and brighter view of themselves changes their view of others and the world. They now see possibility and choice where they previously saw hopelessness. This isn't simply teaching people a skillset. The reason is the skillset has a prerequisite that the teacher of the skill MUST be able to remove the armour. My curriculum, the S.E.L.F.- Literacy Project, will transform systems and families because it teaches leaders, those who serve and those who are served the same information together. Together, WE learn to feel safe with ourselves so we can gift others with the same. https://www.linkedin.com/in/revlesliepetersrntheheartnurturer/

What is vulnerability?Brené Brown, author of Atlas of the Heart (a book we are obsessed with), defines and describes vulnerability as:The emotion that we experience during times of uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. In our culture, we tend to equate vulnerability with weakness. We see it as a character flaw, something to be ashamed of and hidden away. But, vulnerability is, in fact, a sign of courage. It takes great courage to reveal our authentic selves to others, open ourselves up and be vulnerable. We tap into a wellspring of love and connection that allows us to form meaningful relationships when we do so. In this episode, Rev. Leslie Peters is here to share how she was able to see her authentic self through vulnerability. The abuse and neglect she experienced throughout her life left her feeling disconnected. This led her to a lifelong practice to give others what she needed. Uncovering the true meaning of love through her practice, Rev. Leslie felt the need to release her ‘armor,' allowing herself to step into her courage, live with an open heart, and find power in vulnerability. For Rev. Leslie, being vulnerable is also the ability to stand and own your truth regardless of the consequences.Rev. Leslie, the Heart Nurturer, has been helping people for 32 years. She is a registered nurse, an ordained minister, a trauma and resilience expert, and a transformational conversationalist. She is on a mission to create a safe space for trauma survivors to unapologetically see, accept, and reconnect with their true selves. What You Will Learn From This Episode02:53 - What Rev. Carl Smith owns and runs the Bureau of Digital, an organization that supports agencies and provides the leadership training necessary to survive and thrive. Their focus on Digital Leadership, Business Development, Design Leadership, Operations, and Project Management has been invaluable to the digital agency landscape. Takeaways: In today's climate, it is important to cater to your clients' evolving needs and be flexible with them. How can you create a better relationship in the current world? Generalists are what everyone wants out of individuals, but Specialists are what they want out of organizations. The most successful companies are those that are generalists, but promote themselves as specialists. Position yourself as who you want to become versus who you are right now. This will help grow your business, company and community. “If you have to change the fabric of who you are to accomplish something then you have lost part of yourself.” Double down on what makes you different as a company and an individual. ~Carl Smith “Don't always tell clients what is great about what they have. Leslie Peters was testing herself to be perfect and realized she needed to be on her own quest. She reminded herself not to set expectations that keep her from doing things but instead have a sense of possibility.
People with Parkinson’s disease (PD) need their medications on time, every time. Getting them too soon or too late can cause problems. So when a person with PD enters the hospital, which happens 50 percent more often than their peers, the staff often needs to be educated on the importance of delivering medications at the right dose and at the right times - times that may differ from the usual times that medications are dispensed. When medication timing is off or doses are missed, there can be serious complications that are sometimes then treated with medications that make the situation even more dangerous. So the Parkinson’s Foundation has developed a kit, called Aware in Care, that patients can take with them to the hospital to specify the critical nature of getting medications on time, and the medications that should always be avoided. Annie Wallis, Associate Director of Education at the Foundation, and Leslie Peters, Vice Chair of the People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council for the Foundation, Aware in Care Ambassador, and a care partner for her husband with PD, talk about problems that can arise in the hospital, how to prepare for a hospitalization using the Aware in Care kit, and how the Aware in Care Ambassador program is dedicated to educating hospital staffs around the country to help make the kit most effective.
Ah, podcast number one. I’m really excited to kick this show off with an interview with Leslie Peters, who is one of my favorite people! She’s a speaker, author and guide who connects with people on the edge of growth. What does that mean? Basically, she works with leaders and teams during times of change. Perfect, right? Almanac and Leslie have worked together on a few projects over the years, and she’s not only gotten to know our company really well, but I would say she’s influenced the type of company we’ve become. She helped us map our core values a couple years ago, which has been transformational for us. And she also introduced us to the Cynefin framework--a system of problem-solving that helped us get comfortable with the kind of messy, unpredictable, human work that we love doing at Almanac. And, guess what, we’re going to talk about Cynefin today, because I think you will see your work in it, and it will give you several a - ha moments, just like it did for us. Our guest on this episode of the podcast is Leslie Peters, RN. Leslie is a registered nurse, who left a career she loved, to step out of her comfort zone and start following her intuition and her heart, by sharing her story as a speaker, self-love strategist and accountability partner in self-care.Leslie Peters is a woman who has spent a lifetime asking, listening and learning from others. The only person she never listened to was herself; she grew up, married and raised men with addictions. She trusted unhealthy people who loved her more than she trusted herself. Leslie says that this is actually the "Gift of her story". She felt no connection to her parents or husband - being an intuitive she knew she needed to feel connected for her survival. When she was 16, with the freedom of a drivers license, Leslie went in search of connection. She quickly learned that on the other side of the door of her home was a world where she could let her true self-free. The world became her home and the people walking down them her family. She routinely asked strangers thought-provoking questions about themselves; Leslie always found a way to relate. Their answers confirmed that she was not alone in her story and that she was indeed part of something bigger than her own small world - the greater good.During our chat with Leslie, we cover areas including:What is living life with H.E.A.R.T., and how she discovered this way of living is not always easy, but so important.Leslie shares the struggles she experienced in trying to live this way, and how she's been able to work through those challenges.Releasing the shame and anger she was holding onto for allowing herself to becomes something she wasn't, just to make others happy. How the ACES Study, (Adverse Childhood Experiences) plays a key role in all aspects of development; physically, emotionally, and cognitively.Understanding your ACES score and how it affects not only you but others in your life.Leslie's shares her score and what it's meant to her personally and in working with clients to help them understand their score. The healing that comes through neuroplasticity, awareness, education, and being in tune with yourself on a very deep level. If you’re not familiar with ACES, we encourage you to google “aces score” or go to acestoohigh.com and other similar sites for more information on this groundbreaking study originally conducted by the CDC and Kaiser Permanente, and learn more about your aces score. You can reach Leslie at LesliePetersRN.com or email her directly: Info at LesliePetersRN dot comPlease consider sharing this episode with someone who might need it, and don't forget to rate the podcast and leave a review on your favorite podcasting app!If you enjoy listening to the Podcast, why not consider helping to support us AND get a free copy of Joanne's book, Ditch Your Doubt. -Matthew Pappas, CLC, MPNLP & Joanne Cipressi, CHt, CNLP All conversation and information exchanged during participation on the Beyond Your Past Podcast, on BeyondYourPast.com, and BeyondYourPastRadio.com is intended for educational and informational purposes only. "It means nothing about me..." In today’s ridiculously deep, emotional episode, you will learn why it’s important to teach your children those words like a mantra. Listen in as I learn about ACE or Adverse Childhood Experiences with RN, Speaker, and fellow compassionate, Leslie Peters. Leslie Peters dives into her own personal childhood experiences and trauma in order to explain the origins of her own ACE and explains why it is important for everyone to know their own ACE score in order to build empathy, understanding, and self-compassion. MY THOUGHTS Kick Ass RN. ACE survivor. Compassion and empathy builder. Leslie struggled with a toxic family, father, and husband that often caused her to doubt herself. She overcame a childhood fraught with familial hardship in order to become the badass RN, speaker, and empathy builder she is today. She has a lot to say and considers the world to be her oyster-- and her family. _____ Almost 30 years ago, LESLIEPETER'S own experiences called her to the profession of Nursing. Her passion was her pain. She worked in-the-trenches helping low income pregnant women and their families understand and heal their stories with hopes of preventing the cycle of the story. Leslie says that “Every characteristic of mine that allows me to live life with honesty, empathy, acceptance, relatability and trust (H.E.A.R.T.) came from the adversity I endured. Through a person’s eyes I can see their soul. Without my story I wouldn’t be who I am today. What was once a curse“ Leslie turned her experiences into a positive tool for the transformation of others. She inspires and encourages women and men alike with her conversational, down-home style. Her talks are perfect for women’s events, seminars, training events, marriage conferences, church leadership conferences and workshops. The world is full of leaders, from newly minted entrepreneurs to highly paid CEOs. There are nearly a quarter million CEOs in America alone. But according to a Gallup report, only one in ten people possess the talent that's required of a CEO. If 90% of people lack innate management skills, how CEOs succeed? CEOs can build incredible cultures, grow companies, and enhance the bottom line. But without the right guidance, they can just as easily burn out, cause cultures to stagnate, and lead their organisations to ruin. Drawing from twenty-plus years of working side by side with today's top leaders, Leadership expert and author of Finding Time to Lead, Leslie Peters pulls back the leadership curtain to reveal the shifts, practices, and tools that move leaders past the status quo. We explore: Why “having all the answers” ultimately sabotages success How to recognise if busy-ness is, in fact, a sign of anxiety or discomfort Why there's no such thing as a perfectly crafted corporate message How the lack of a counter-narrative can bring a CEO down How to lead change in a way that brings people along Three great shifts as leader: From doing to being From knowing to understanding From reacting to responding
Bill Horan talks with Leslie Peters, author of FINDING TIME TO LEAD, who will discuss why she says people become CEO's by being good at something else, why people are wrong if they equate leadership with doing things and making decisions, why leaders must ask themselves ‘who do I want to be right now’, and why it is harder to be a CEO for a person with a specific expertise such as a doctor.
