The Ole Miss running back room is back in the spotlight. What was arguably the Rebels' biggest problem area on offense last season has already been dealt a blow. JUCO transfer Trey Hall had surgery to repair an injured Achilles, the Ole Miss Spirit has confirmed, which likely knocks him out for all of 2025. The Rebels certainly tried to address the position in recruiting. Hall was one of three transfers added, joining Akron's Jordon Simmons and Missouri's Kewan Lacy. The Rebels signed four-star 2024 recurit Shekai-Mills Knight, too, while they return Logan Diggs and Dominque Thomas.Have Lane Kiffin and Co. done enough? Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com) and Michael Katz (Daily Journal) discuss in an all-new edition of ‘Talk of Champions,' powered by RiverLand Roofing. Ole Miss basketball is reeling at the end of the regular season. Where do the Rebels go from here? And Rebel baseball is off to a hot start.Text or call RiverLand for all your roofing needs: 662-644-4297. Few, if any, are doing more for Ole Miss sports in the NIL (name, image and likeness) space. Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the transfer portal and Damien Martinez from the Oregon State Beavers and how he would fill a role not a hole for the Ole Miss Rebels in 2024. We break down this 232 lb Running Back as being something different and able to add the fear of a dominating run game for Ole Miss. We talk Ulysses Bentley and Kedrick Reescano and the Ole Miss RB room right now and add Logan Diggs the LSU Tigers transfer and potentially Henry Parrish Jr who got into the portal for the Miami Hurricanes yesterday. In the second segment of the show we about all of the smoke surrounding Tyler Baron from the Louisville Cardinals and where the conversation really blew up yesterday after a tweet from Brandon Marcello. And talk about what Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding could do with this front seven + Tyler Baron. Princely Umanmielen and Walter Nolen are the stars but it is another example of filling a role not a hole. In our final segment of the day we talk about Key Lawrence and the absolute bizarre fact that Ole Miss Rebels had two Key Lawrences on their roster and how the weirdest media storm ever happened. Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about Dallan Hayden from Christian Brothers in Memphis from Ohio State Buckeyes entering the transfer portal when it opens. We talk Ulysses Bentley IV and Kedrick Reescano and Logan Diggs and Henry Parrish Jr from the Miami Hurricanes and look at Running Back Room construction for Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss Rebels. Will the Rebels take two Running Backs in the Transfer Portal this spring and how does that look going forward. In the second segment of the show we talk the Grove Bowl Games and wonder what Stakeholders will be able to take out of the event. We look at Tre Harris vs Trey Amos as a potential marquee event to watch in the 7v7 portion of the games but I wonder if this was a missed opportunity to raise money for the Grove Collective and also say thank you for the members that are paying the salaries of the players. We wonder out loud about watching some of the young stars play in front of the members of the Collective as a reward for them donating. In our final segment of the day we talk about recruiting and the commitment of Daphne, Ala Defensive Lineman Talib Graham. He is a player tailor made to fit as a Jack and reminds me a bit of DeeJay Holmes watching the video. Ole Miss also hosted Dillon Alford from Saraland earlier this week. Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about The story of spring practice and that is the Front Seven at Ole Miss. We reached out to Chris Gordy, Michael Katz and David Eckert for their thoughts on what could be a special unit for the Ole Miss Rebels, Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding. Princely Umanmielen and Walter Nolen are the transfer headliners but Pooh Paul will join returners like Jared Ivey and JJ Pegues to form a unit that should be toward the top of the SEC in 2024. In the second segment of the show we talk Henry Parrish Jr from the Miami Hurricanes and what he could bring to a backfield that Ole Miss Football already has with Jaxson Dart, Kedrick Reescano and Ulysses Bentley IV.We look at how the backfield will be positioned in 2024 and how Akylin Dear will not be impacted by this lineup plus Logan Diggs in 2025. In our final segment of the day we talk about Jamarion Morrow from Germantown High who is a Skeleton Key of a football player in the vein of Percy Harvin or Elijah Moore. He is a player that size is an advantage but the comp could be Jaylen Waddle from the Alabama Crimson Tide. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Las Vegas has their minds made up about what to expect from each Power 5 college football team in the 2024 season – for now, at least. FanDuel lists the LSU Tigers' over/under win total at 9.5 games. Is that a fair projection? It is clear that despite LSU's losses from last season to this upcoming season that Vegas is still optimistic about the Tigers. LSU loses the Heisman trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels who was also the team's leading rusher. LSU loses it's second leading rusher in Logan Diggs to SEC foe Ole Miss in addition to it's two leading receivers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns in Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers. Also, LSU replaces it's offensive coordinator after Mike Denbrock left Baton Rouge to return to the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish to serve in that same role. Fourth-year quarterback Garrett Nussmeier takes over the starting quarterback position from Daniels and showed against the Wisconsin Badgers that while the LSU offense will look different this upcoming season, it won't drop off in offensive yards and points scored. Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the Running Back room for 2024 before spring and any conversation must include Quinshon Judkins transferring to the Ohio State Buckeyes and how that will affect the Ole Miss Rebels. I talk about how the offense is going to change, not get made over. I think you will see the Ole Miss Offense in the Run/Pass category look like 2021 where Jerrion Ealy paced all backs with 133 carries. Snoop Conner was second with 131 carries and Henry Parrish was next with 105 carries. A far cry from judkins getting 275 carries this year. In the second segment of the show we talk about how Kedrick Reescano has the offseason of his life and it will be important that he takes this spring by the horns and makes it his. The young RB will be featured this spring because Ulysses Bentley IV has been injury prone and Logan Diggs the LSU Tiger and Notre Dame Fighting Irish transfer will miss spring practice. So Reescano, Matt Jones and Fred McAfee will have an opportunity to plant a flag in this competition but make no mistake Reescano is the Main Story of spring practice. In our final segment of the day we talk about Logan Diggs and what the thought process was bringing in a player that hurt his knee…Rumored ACL… against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Reliaquest Bowl New Year's Day. We discuss what that injury normally looks like and when you could maybe expect to see the player suit up. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about how Lane Kiffin, Charlie Weis Jr and Pete Golding plan on making tweaks to the Ole Miss Rebels roster ahead of the 2024 Football Schedule. We look first at the Running Back position and Ulysses Bentley IV and Kedrick Reescano being the front runners for the position and Logan Diggs the transfer from the LSU Tigers. Due to injuries and threats that is probably the most pressing place for Ole Miss in the Secondary Transfer Portal Window. In the second segment of the show we talk about how Chris Beard may have unlocked his team in a losing effort with the South Carolina Gamecocks Tuesday night. Beard's decision to sit Jaemyn Brakefield and Juju Murray for a long stretch of the second half for a more defensive lineup nearly worked at the Ole Miss Basketball team almost erased a 17 pt deficit in the second half. Ole Miss get the Kentucky Wildcats this coming Tuesday. In our final segment of the day we talk about the coaches inside the SEC do not seem to favorably view Ole Miss Baseball and rate them toward the bottom of the SEC. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com) rides solo in this wintry edition of The Flagship, presented by RiverLand Roofing, and coming to you from a snowy, if mostly-sleet-covered, North Mississippi. It's cold outside, but Lane Kiffin's football Rebels remain scorching hot in the transfer portal. Ole Miss over the weekend secured commitments from South Alabama cornerback Yam Banks and Virginia Tech tight end Dae'Quan Wright. The Rebels are showing no signs of slowing down, either. They've put together the No. 3 transfer class so far, according to On3, and their average player rating (83.50) is the highest in the nation. Two members of their 14-transfer haul are ranked in the Top 10 of On3's transfer player rankings. Leading the way is Texas A&M defensive tackle Walter Nolen, the portal's No. 1 overall player. Florida EDGE Princely Umanmielen (No. 6) is the other.“They've built one of the best classes I think we've seen in the last couple of years,” On3 portal expert Pete Nakos exclusively told the Spirit on Monday. “Obviously Colorado and Louisville have been good, but Ole Miss' class is as deep as anyone's out there, from Walter Nolen to Logan Diggs. Just a lot of talent.”This all-new Flagship highlights three sleeper Ole Miss transfers, including a pair of cornerbacks in Banks and Illinois' Taz Nicholson. Their additions have been made that much more important after the Rebels surprisingly lost Mississippi State transfer Decamerion Richardson to the NFL Draft.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Now that the dust is starting to settle on Nick Saban's departure and Alabama's hiring of Kalen DeBoer, Cole Cubelic weighs in on how it's affecting the team's roster and staffing updates around the league. Cole discusses the success of Florida State in the transfer portal and the transfer decisions of several players, including Isaiah Bond and Logan Diggs. He also highlights recruiting updates for Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and more. Then, later in the show Will Rogers joins Cole to discuss his reaction to the Saban news, his decision to enter the transfer portal, his time with Mississippi State and more. The LSU Tigers host Georgia State for their second-to-last game of the season in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers are 30+ point favorites over the Panthers, so Vegas knows what we know as well – this is a game that LSU should win and it is a game that they should win handedly. But how should head coach Brian Kelly balance protecting Jayden Daniels and his Heisman campaign? Plus, the Tigers are down two of their top running backs as leading rusher Logan Diggs is unavailable for the second straight week. Kelly told reporters that Diggs would not be available against the Florida Gators last week and is not quite ready to return to play. Plus, LSU lost John Emery Jr. last week after he suffered a torn ACL. The run game will now fall on Josh Williams, who had a huge day against the Gators, Noah Cain, and true freshman Kaleb Jackson. It will be a top 25 showdown in Tuscaloosa on Saturday as the #14 LSU Tigers take on the #8 Alabama Crimson Tide as Brian Kelly's squad looks to hand Alabama it's first conference loss. LSU got a win at home last season against Nick Saban but as they look to make it two in a row, what are the biggest keys to victory for LSU on Saturday? First, the Tigers will need a huge day from Jayden Daniels and the rest of the LSU offense. The Tigers have won every game on their schedule thus far because of Daniels, wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas, and running back Logan Diggs, so it isn't unexpected or extraordinary to ask a big day from the offense. However, that is going to be more difficult against Alabama than it has been all season long as Alabama has the 17th ranked defense in all of college football. On the other side of the ball, the defense has struggled mightily and even that is putting it lightly. LSU has the 88th ranked offense in college football, a ranking that has been inflated over the last two weeks after facing the struggling offenses of Auburn and Army. This defense will be shorthanded without DL Mekhi Wingo, but Harold Perkins, Maason Smith, Jordan Jefferson, and the rest of the big men up front will need to stop Alabama's rushing attack and try to force Alabama QB Jalen Milroe to force turnovers to give Daniels and the offense more opportunities to get into the end zone. It will be a top 25 showdown in Tuscaloosa on Saturday as the #14 LSU Tigers take on the #8 Alabama Crimson Tide as Brian Kelly's squad looks to hand Alabama it's first conference loss. LSU got a win at home last season against Nick Saban but as they look to make it two in a row, what are the biggest keys to victory for LSU on Saturday?First, the Tigers will need a huge day from Jayden Daniels and the rest of the LSU offense. This defense will be shorthanded without DL Mekhi Wingo, but Harold Perkins, Maason Smith, Jordan Jefferson, and the rest of the big men up front will need to stop Alabama's rushing attack and try to force Alabama QB Jalen Milroe to force turnovers to give Daniels and the offense more opportunities to get into the end zone.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsWith all the parts you need at the prices you want, it's easy to turn your car into the MVP and bring home that win. The LSU Tigers fall to the Ole Miss Rebels 55-49 in Oxford Saturday night because of the defense. Jayden Daniels threw for over 400 yards and the stable of running backs, led by Logan Diggs with a 101 yard performance, put up over 600 yards of offense and 49 points but it still wasn't enough to mask the defensive deficiencies. The defense did not record a single sack of Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. Per Brian Kelly, the defense missed 34 tackles that accounted for 288 yards. The secondary continues to get exposed and it is even worse now without Greg Brooks and Zy Alexander leaving the game early with an injury. LSU currently ranks 130th in the nation in pass defense. Overall, the defense hurt the football team on Saturday night and it isn't the first clunker from the defense this season. So where does the team go from here? It seems the only answer is to part ways with the defensive coordinator. Matt House has mismanaged Harold Perkins, left LB Whit Weeks on the sideline for a majority of the first half of the game, and has not seemed to help improve the defense week over week and there is zero excuse for the defense to be as horrendous as it is. The LSU Tigers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31 on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. LSU got the win and extend their conference record to 2-0, but it was a much closer game than anyone, LSU fans, Arkansas fans, and even Las Vegas, anticipated. Why were the Razorbacks able to keep it so close against LSU? The slow offensive start and Jayden Daniels hiccups early in the game did not help LSU's case. But the most glaring smudge on the Tigers' resume against Arkansas was the third down defense. Arkansas converted only two of their thirteen third downs last week at home in a loss to the BYU Cougars. Against LSU Arkansas converted eight of thirteen. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson was able to turn a 3rd and 6 and a 3rd and 18 into touchdown drives. However, third down defense isn't a new problem for the Tigers. It was a huge reason why LSU fell behind to the Florida State Seminoles in the second half of the first game of the season. The Noles converted 9 of their 14 third downs and LSU couldn't even stop them in 3rd and 13, 3rd and 12, and other 3rd and long situations. Overall, the third down defense and secondary is hurting the LSU Tigers football team. It makes the defense's job more difficult and it puts more pressure on Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas, Logan Diggs, and other offensive starters to make each drive a touchdown drive. WHAT A FREAKING START TO SEC PLAY FOR THE LSU TIGERS! LSU took down the Mississippi State Bulldogs 41-14 in a dominant performance on the road at Davis-Wade Stadium to open up SEC play. Jayden Daniels completed 88 percent of his passes, the best completion percentage by any LSU QB in history who attempted at least 25 passes, with a majority of those targets going to wide receiver Malik Nabers. Nabers caught all thirteen balls that came his way for 239 yards and two touchdowns earning both himself and Daniels SEC co-offensive players of the week honors. It was a high-powered, accurate, and decisive performance through the air against the Bulldogs but also had a dominant rush attack. Daniels led the team in rushing yards yet again but Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs got a lot of looks, as well, putting up 41 yards on 9 rushing attempts. Any Tigers fans with doubts about the offense should now feel much more confident in this squad to put up a lot of points. So what can LSU do to ensure the offense we saw against Mississippi State is what we see throughout the rest of the season rather than the offense that struggled in the second half against Florida State? With an SEC West, and an SEC as a whole, that doesn't look incredibly dominant, where does LSU rank among the rest of the division through three games? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The LSU Tigers seized a great opportunity Saturday night to rebuild confidence following the Florida State loss by taking down Grambling State 72-10. The offense found explosiveness and while the defense got off to a slow start, it squandered Grambling in the second half giving up zero points following adjustments. LSU felt like it got some confidence and swagger back in the home opener before heading on the road to Mississippi State. But head coach Brian Kelly also took that game as an opportunity to debut some new faces on the LSU roster. But which will be fixtures for the team moving forward and who got playing time merely because it was a blowout loss and the coaching staff wanted to get them reps? First, Texas A&M transfer cornerback Denver Harris made his debut after he was away from the team and didn't even travel to Orlando to take on the Seminoles. Coach Kelly said he needed to "buy in" to the teams message and earned some playing time this past week. Harris had one PBU in the end zone but also gave up a TD on Grambling's first drive. Can Harris stay committed and continue to earn more playing time on a unit that could desperately use some playmakers and depth? Second, Notre Dame transfer RB Logan Diggs was phenomenal. Even against an inferior opponent Logan Diggs flashed his speed and toughness running for 115 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. In an incredibly crowded and stacked room, has Diggs emerged as the favorite to be this teams go-to back? Finally, we got to see some work from true freshman tackle Zalance Heard. Heard was a five-star OT recruit out of Neville High School in Monroe, LA and was a top five offensive tackle recruit in the 2023 class. The right side of the offensive line struggled creating open lanes for the running backs against Florida State, so Heard got the opportunity to prove that he can bolster up a unit that got worked by the Noles. Can we expect to see more of the true freshman throughout the season? What does he have to do to prove he can be a reliable starter at this level? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The LSU Tigers took down the Grambling State Tigers 72-10 in the 2023 season Tiger Stadium debut. Overall, it was a get right, confidence booster game for LSU after getting dominated by Florida State last week in a 45-24 loss. Quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a career-high five touchdown passes in the first half, becoming only the second LSU QB in program history to throw for at least that many TD passes since Joe Burrow threw for seven against Oklahoma in the 2019 College Football Playoff. Four LSU wide receivers caught a touchdown including Brian Thomas Jr. who found himself in the end zone twice in Saturday night's contest. Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs got the ball early and often, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown in his inaugural game in Tiger Stadium. Overall, the offense looked solid and it did what it needed to do against an inferior opponent. The defense, however, did not impose it's will from the jump. Grambling was able to score on it's first two possessions and marched into field goal range in their third. The LSU defense struggled to stop QB Myles Crawley's quick passes and running back Chance Williams. Overall, the LSU defense struggled to get pressure up front, struggled tackling, and allowed the Grambling offense to do what they wanted. That is until LSU made adjustments. Once the defense settled in, Grambling would not score another point for the rest of the game. LSU now turns it's focus to Mississippi State as they hit the road to Starkville to open up SEC play this weekend. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! We are officially at the midway point of fall camp for the LSU Tigers and less than three weeks away from kicking off the 2023 season against the Florida State Seminoles on Labor Day weekend. So how is the LSU offense shaping up leading into the season? This past week of practices starting quarterback Jayden Daniels has strung together some of his best days in camp. He has been accurate and in control of the offense all while combining a strong arm with one of his greatest and most unique strengths: his legs. Returning stars like WR Malik Nabers and TE Mason Taylor have, to no surprise, continued to prove themselves as integral weapons in the offense while improving and building upon their 2022 campaigns. But it doesn't stop with the biggest playmakers from last season; other role players looking to serve larger roles this season such as Chris Hilton, Brian Thomas, and Kyren Lacy have also been putting in work and getting their fair share of targets from Daniels and backup QB Garrett Nussmeier. While the passing game has evolved and looks strong, no position group is as strong as the running back room. The Tigers have eight RBs on the roster, half of which have taken valuable snaps at the college level and can contribute right away. Returning Tigers such as Josh Williams, Armoni Goodwin, John Emery and Noah Cain are sharing snaps with Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs along with true freshmen Trey Holly and Kaleb Jackson. How will offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock balance all eight of those backs and how will they be used? Could the running back position be LSU's X-factor offensively? Fall camp is officially a geaux for Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers! The media got a first glimpse of Brian Kelly's 2023 squad as fall camp kicked off on Thursday. It was just day one and there were no pads on as the team eases into the grind of camp, but there is still plenty to take away and plenty to analyze as the Tigers progress throughout the summer into the first game of the season against the Florida State Seminoles on Labor Day weekend. First, the not so great. LSU had one single scholarship cornerback return for the 2023 season: second-year Laterrance Welch who saw limited snaps in his true freshman season last year. Defensive coordinator Matt House is tasked for the second season in a row to build a cohesive secondary unit with players collected throughout the transfer portal and they did not have their best day in the 1v1 period on Thursday. Backup QB Garrett Nussmeier landed a 60-yard bomb of a touchdown pass into the hands of Brian Thomas and the cornerback group was left in the dust of the wide receivers for most of that period. However, it is not time to panic yet. Nor is it time to panic any time soon with that group. On the other side of the football, the depth of the running backs was on full display. Veteran John Emery was absent from practice but Brian Kelly clarified that he was finishing up an internship and should return to practice on Friday. Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs had his first official practice as an LSU Tiger and even took reps with the first team offense. Kelly said he was pleased with what he saw from his former player in South Bend. Overall, how do we feel about the squad after day one? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! THERE IS LSU FOOTBALL IN BATON ROUGE HAPPENING TODAY!!!! It's training camp football, but football nonetheless, and LSU Tigers football fans are starved for some action on the gridiron. So what should fans keep an eye on as positional battles start to unfold throughout the preseason in camp? First, the running back room is stacked and loaded. After a thin running back room in the spring with only Noah Cain and true freshman Trey Holly, the position is back in full force. Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin return to fall camp after nursing injuries and recovering from surgeries sustained at the end of the 2022 season. Brian Kelly said at SEC Media Days that he expects John Emery to be cleared by the NCAA to return for the start of fall camp after being academically ineligible during the spring. But it doesn't stop there; the Tigers added two transfer running backs in Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs and Tre Bradford who makes his third appearance at LSU after transferring back to LSU from Oklahoma and sitting out this past season. So which back will emerge early? What role will each player play in a running back by committee? In addition to the running back position, LSU enters this season with an abundance of quality starting quarterback play. Brian Kelly said after the Citrus Bowl and again at SEC Media days in mid-July that Jayden Daniels is the starter. However, he hasn't locked up the position with lock and key in a steel vault. Backup QB Garrett Nussmeier could be a starting quarterback at close to any Power Five program in the country. He is hungry for his opportunity and will be competitive in camp to close the gap between himself and Daniels. So what should fans watch throughout the QB competition? Our preseason breakdown of the Notre Dame position groups moves onto the running backs. Despite the loss of Logan Diggs to LSU and Chris Tyree to wide receiver, the 2023 running backs could be even better. That, of course, depends on improved play from some unproven players. We break down the room and go player by player to talk about 2023 expectations. LSU football adds even more depth and versatility to the running back room with the transfer portal addition of Logan Diggs from Notre Dame. Diggs is also from the New Orleans area and played football in high school at Archbishop Rummel, a very familiar place to the LSU football recruiting staff and fans alike. Diggs ran for over 800 yards last year and added over 200 yards in the air, flashing his ability to move the ball downfield both on the ground and in the air. Plus, he comes to Baton Rouge with two years of eligibility remaining. The addition of Diggs to the running back room allows offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock to be even more creative in the run game with a running back by committee and also adds insurance in case veteran RB John Emery Jr. is not academically eligible to play this season. JuJuan Johnson, 4-star cornerback from Lafayette, LA announced his commitment to LSU football Monday afternoon after originally committing to play for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffalo but de-committed shortly after the Colorado spring game. Johnson adds much needed depth, speed, and versatility to the secondary in the 2024 class. LSU now holds the fifth ranked recruiting class in 2024 and four of the top ten ranked recruits in the state of Louisiana have committed to play for Brian Kelly and the Tigers. Of the remaining six, two are heavily favored to land in Baton Rouge while the other four have wide open commitments. Plus, LSU continues it's pursuit of Notre Dame transfer running back and Louisiana native Logan Diggs. Diggs took his official visit to LSU over the weekend. Why would Diggs choose LSU over the other schools from which he has offers? How would the running back room look with and without the addition of Diggs? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
