Ready? Fight! This week on To Kill A Delibird we continue discussing Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back! Our part 2 discussion covers the latter half of the movie and a seriously sleep deprived Kellan. The Mewtwo mystery reaches a boiling point and war has broken out. On the elusive “New Island”, the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world is revealed to also be the world's greatest Pokemon. Ash and the gang find themselves on the set of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Then we get the narrative of Megadeth's 90s classic “Holy Wars”, specifically the lines: “Brother killing brother, shedding blood across the land”. Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back is surprisingly good on rewatch and actually aged decently well. We had a shadow ball discussing this whole movie and we hope you have fun too! Life. One of the great mysteries. Where did we come from? What is our purpose? Why does Donald Duck put a towel around his waist when he comes out of the shower, when he doesn't normally use pants? When Mike Wazowski closes and opens his eye, is he blinking or winking? This week on TKAD we dive into the neural clone soup of existentialism and start discussing Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back! This is just part 1 of the movie dissection. We start by introducing Mewtwo's long lost sibling, MewThree and exploring his impressive powers. Then we analyse the movie prologues, which together tell an intense and depressing sci-fi story about love, desperation and trauma. Then we explore Act I of the movie, which has Ash and the gang get an invite to a mysterious island. This movie still holds up and discussing it was a great time. The late 90's and early 2000's was dominated by Pokémon. Whether we're talking about the Game Boy games, the trading card game or the television show, it was hard to find someone that didn't know who Pikachu was. Pokémon had such a massive audience, that it lead to a series of films, with the first one being released in Japan in 1998. Pokémon: The First Movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back would be the first time our parents could buy a movie ticket and a bag of popcorn to enjoy Pocket Monsters on the big screen. Now in 2020, you can enjoy a new version of this movie featuring 3D characters, but the same story we grew to love. What did we think about Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back? Let's talk about that now on the Podcast! Anyway, Producer Erin is on this episode and they discuss their experience with, I think, every Pokemon video game ever made.
