The two also discuss the decision making when choosing the Big Noon Saturday Games that were announced last week: Michigan-Ohio State, Texas-Michigan and Alabama-Wisconsin. Mulvihill also details the origins of the concept of Big Noon Saturday and why FOX is adding big-time games on the Friday night schedule this Fall. Learn more about your ad choices. Tyler Meredith has been one of the driving forces behind no fewer than six federal budgets and served as the top economic advisor to Prime Minister Trudeau and two finance ministers, so he knows a thing or two about how budgets are made. Today he joins us to explain how exactly the federal government's budget (like the one released last week) is put together, where the ideas come from, who decides what makes it in, how plans turn into policy, and how the money actually gets distributed. ----- More episodes of Free Lunch by The Peak: https://readthepeak.com/shows/free-lunch Follow Taylor on Twitter: @taylorscollon Follow Sarah on Twitter: @sarahbartnicka Subscribe to The Peak's daily business newsletter: https://readthepeak.com/b/the-peak/subscribe
Despite the various red flags we ventured out to theaters to see the current worst movie of 2024, Madame Web, which made us question our own sanity. Sony's 'Madame Web' has been getting a lot of attention lately, and it begs the question: Who is to blame when a big budget film's script is not well received? Surprisingly, many times it's not the writers! Joe Russo helps us understand by breaking down the realities of getting a script sold/produced in Hollywood, and how often times the scriptwriters themselves have little to do with how well the end product turns out.

Countdown #451 Is this the episode that ends the show? That's what regular listeners might be asking as Paul flies very close to the sun by letting Wayne off the podcast leash to discuss the Top 10 Films That Would Not Get Made Today! Truly, this one is worth listening to just to hear Wayne's description of his Number 7 - a film which Paul simply cannot believe exists (even if it was made back in the '50s). And beyond that, there's plenty of the usual banter, questionable jokes, and cameos from The Soundboard to prove the boys are back in the same room and all is again fine in the world. Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown. The late Zig Ziglar said, "Motivation Fades." What he meant was, it's not enough to simply be motivated. It's real easy to be motivated, but motivation fades. There are times when you're not motivated to do something. There are times when you just don't "feel like it," but there's something important to know...... People who set agendas, goals, and missions and create a plan to accomplish them.....those people get paid. If you're going to have anything worth having in this life, you have to do the work necessary to power through the lulls and the circumstances of the Force of Average. It is a simple fact of life. Make time. Make it count. Create processes and systems and tasks that help you know the work to do that makes an impact, especially when motivation fades. It's not enough to simply be motivated. Assess where you want to be and make a plan. Missions that get made, get you paid. #RiseAbove HOW TO GET INVOLVED: This planet is based on an algorithm and with every positive action, there is an adverse reaction. Ryan Stewman rose and overcame a life of addiction, imprisonment, divorce, and circumstances that would break the spirit of the average human being. He went on to create a powerful network of winners and champions in life and business creating a movement quickly changing lives one day at a time. After we did the Ep 117 on Who are you making your films for, and then Ep 120 trends in indie monetisation and streaming, we thought we will try and solve a problem for filmmakers, if we can, by getting an opinion from Industry leaders, thought leaders, filmmakers on this one question that can help us all. Now making a film takes a lot of effort, time, resources, and if they do not reach the right audience the effort is all wasted.According to UNESCO, 9444 feature length films were made in 2019 and the rate continues. This includes films produced in all countries and languages, including Hollywood blockbusters, Bollywood films, art-house productions, and independent films. This number does not include short films, documentaries, or other forms of film and video content. So consider a very high side: if 4000 films get absorbed on various VODs- Netflix, Amazon, Mubi, Tubi, Hulu, Roku, local cables etc etc- what happens to 5000 odd films? 1) Do they just disappear? What happens to films that never reach the audience? or a platform.2) Do you think filmmakers should think of a plan before making feature films, so their films get discovered?3) Can we as makers streamline these 5000 odd films and how? How can the system think of streamlining these films so they do not get lost?We asked these question to our esteemed guests:(In Alphabetical order)A) ANJUL NIGAM- ACTOR/ PRODUCER- ER, GREY'S ANATOMY, NEVER HAVE I EVER......B) ISIDORE BETHAL- FILMMAKER /EDUCATOR-His work has screened at CANNES and SXSW, NETFLIX, MOMA C) KARAN TAURANI- INDUSTRY LEADER, EVP ELARA CAPITALD) MADHAVAN NARAYANAN- THOUGHT LEADER/ JOURNALIST- QUINT, NDTV, TIMES.E) PINAKI CHATTERJEE- CONTENT ACQUISITION & DISTRIBUTION, FILM FESTIVAL STRATEGIST- MISS LOVELY, NAMESAKE, A DEATH IN THE GUNJThere are many great answers, and if someone would want to jump on the bandwagon and collab and help us solve this, we can pull in more resources. Are you a doodler like me? I often doodle when I listen to a talk or a presentation – even when I interview people for the podcast. And it seems there is a real benefit when you doodle. This episode begins with the explanation. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-power-of-the-doodle-improve-your-focus-and-memory-1406675744 You may be looking at exercise all wrong. Health and fitness may be less about going to the gym for an hour or other formal exercise and more about fitting more movement into your day – all day long. That's according to Juliet Starrett attorney, professional athlete, and podcaster who has worked in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. She offers up the latest proven research that shows how small movements are so important to health, longevity and your overall level of fitness. And she explains easy ways to do it. Juliet is co-author of the book Built To Move (https://amzn.to/3ZwADHH) and her podcast is The Ready State (https://thereadystate.com/podcasts/). Every manmade thing you see or touch today was invented and engineered to work by someone. When you think about it, there is something amazingly creative about that process according to Bill Hammack. Bill is known as The Engineer Guy on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@engineerguyvideo) and is a professor of engineering at the University of Illinois. He joins me to take a peek into the fascinating world of invention and engineering to see how the things you use every day to make your life better, came to be. Ever wonder how certain fragrances make their ways into different publications' ‘Best Of' lists or editorial roundups? Is it determined by the quality of the product OR perhaps just the quality of the PR team behind it? Today, Refinery29's Sr. Beauty Editor Amanda Mitchell is answering all the hard questions. As a beauty editor, Amanda is not only constantly testing new products, she's also trying all the latest beauty treatments, procedures, and experiences. Amanda shares her thoughts on press events/experiences vs. influencer ones (/including some piping hot takes on editors vs. influencers), but we also get into a much more important conversation surrounding these types of events: inclusion (or... lack thereof). Amanda discusses this industry-wide issue as well as how she's helped change it, plus she shares her process for curating her own editorial rounds ups and tells us what she's loving most right now. Call of the Day
This week we have a treat for our Deep Divers and giving you all a first listen of the crossover podcast of the century. June, Jessica, Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas cover the 2011 film, Love On A Leash. June and Jessica ask the same questions you expect, “do you find your dog attractive” and “what are the proper packing cubes to use”? June questions the details of using a 'hot spot' and her Jessica and Jason break down what we can only call "dog boudoir" photos. Remember Deep Divers do NOT sleep on Kyle.
