Welcome back to the Dr. Kinney Show! In today's episode, I'm excited to be joined by Trish Brewer, a trauma-informed Breathwork Coach, Reiki Master Teacher and a co-founder of the Goddess Gatherings in Annapolis, MD.  Trish shares her remarkable journey to breathwork after experiencing a medical crisis, shedding light on the profound impact it had on her life. In this conversation, we discuss various breathwork techniques that can be employed to manage everyday stress, enhance digestion, promote better sleep, and restore equilibrium to mood and energy levels. Additionally, we also talk about active breathwork, a transformative practice that assists in tackling emotional and mental barriers, underscoring the importance of integration throughout the process of healing. Trish Brewer works with individuals committed to inner healing through trauma-informed processing of misbeliefs using energy work, including breathwork, Reiki, and intuitive guidance. By holding a nurturing and compassionate space, folks are empowered to break deep-seated patterns that allow for positive change which ripples outward and impacts not only their healing, but those of their families and communities. In Today's Episode We Discuss ·        Trish Brewer's Journey into Breathwork and Healing·        The Basics of Breathwork: Everyday Tools for Well-being·        Deep Dive into Active Breathwork Healing·        Integrating Reiki with Breathwork for Enhanced Healing·        The Importance of Integration in Healing Practices·        How to Work with Trish Brewer and Final ThoughtsRemember, healing is a journey. Dr. Serena is our guest in this episode, and she delves into the topic of listening to our physiological intuition to give us information about what our body, mind and soul needs. She believes there is a deep connection with our soul that needs to be addressed, and often there is a deeper meaning to physical symptoms or disease. She gives practical advice for accessing that intuition, as well as offering insight into her own personal journey to where she is today as a naturopathic doctor. My favorite bit of advice from Dr. Serena? To "take responsibility for your shit!" OUR GUEST Dr. Serena Goldstein is a Naturopathic Doctor who works with people to bring order to chaos, trust their intuition, and engages with them using everything from conventional and natural medicine to dreams, astrology, and past lives. While she does believe there is a mind- body connection, she also believes there is a soul piece that begs to be discussed, as even sometimes physical symptoms may have a much deeper meaning than just a pathway gone wrong. Dr. Serena is primary care trained and has an extensive psychology background, allowing her to incorporate her knowledge and understanding of the human body along with observing how her patients talk about their life to help them understand that what's happening internally is what's happening externally. She will then work with lifestyle changes, nutrition, homeopathy, herbs, astrology, and the laws of nature & ancient medicine perspectives to create long-term success where her patients can learn to trust themselves, their body, and feel like they'll always know what to do. Whether you are new to hypnosis or are just discovering it, this is a wonderful way of Creating Positive Change in you. So Why Shirlee? I have been in the field of Naturopathic Healing for over 20 years, and I truly believe that it is better to resolve an issue than mask it. Every person I meet is unique and so are their journeys, I will assist you to come up with a plan that best works for your situation. I believe in the power of Hypnotherapy, which is assisting the unconscious mind to accomplish amazing things, we do not claim to ‘cure' anything, but help the client to help themselves. I work with Solution-Focused techniques to show people how to overcome issues positively and not negatively; there's already enough negativity that our community faces daily. ** I Have been working with the LGBT community for over 10 years, through volunteer work and personal interaction, moving on to more professional scope for almost three years. Many of the issues dealt with range from Coming out, homelessness, gaining confidence and gender issues. Through hypnosis we are able to work as a team to move forward and attain desired goals. Susan Cayleff’s Nature’s Path: A History of Naturopathic Healing in America (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2016) offers a fascinating alternative to the development of allopathic orthodoxy in the twentieth-century United States. By following Naturopathy from its nineteenth-century origins in the popular health movement through debates in the 1970s, Cayleff sheds light on an enduring critique of the vision of medicine institutionalized by Progressive public health reformers. The holistic medicine proffered by naturopaths drew from a variety of sources and lacked a common theoretical basis; it required closer collaboration between practitioner and patient for gradual cures in the face of medical complexity, a scenario reminiscent of an increasing portion of today’s medical practice, as Robert Aronowitz points out in Risky Medicine. However, Cayleff shows not merely a transhistorical struggle of self-determination, but rather shifting cultural and political grounds on which such different ideological battles were waged and heterodox practices staged. Notably, she highlights how naturopathy empowered female practitioners to work in line with their politics, and gave them access to medical power precluded by the medical establishment. This book is a great read for historians of medicine, countercultural movements, and professionalization. This is the first of a pair of interviews on alternative medicine: for a rhetorical approach to how notions of evidence are invoked to demarcate between alternative and mainstream medical practice, look out for my forthcoming interview with Colleen Derkatch on her book, Bounding Biomedicine.
