We thought it'd be a fun Valentine's treat to re-post an old Patreon bonus segment on the main feed today. This one is from way back in February 2020, if you can believe, and was originally described thusly: "Kelly, Eva, and Rave were really On One during the recording of this very silly Valentine's-themed game, but to be fair, so were the AI bots that designed the candy hearts whose messages your hosts are "Which hockey?"-ing." Enjoy! For more (and more recent) bonus games like this, support us on Patreon for just $3 per month!Producers' note: We trimmed the original intro and edited out a now-awkward line about Jerry from Netflix's Cheer. The rest is unchanged. Oh, and we also played this game in Ep #143: Crush You, Crumpets if you want to hang out for a while longer on memory lane.
The former star of Netflix's "Cheer," Jerry Harris, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for child pornography. According to the Associated Press, a district judge handed Harris an eight-year sentence with supervised release on Wednesday. "I am deeply sorry for all the trauma my abuse has caused you. I pray that your suffering will come to an end." Harris said at his sentencing. According to the criminal complaint, Harris approached a minor - referred to as Minor 1 in the court documents - on Snapchat in December 2018 in order to produce sexually explicit videos and photos of himself. Harris reportedly sent photos and videos of his penis and of himself masturbating in return to the minor, who was 13 years old at the time. At two cheer competitions, Harris solicited oral sex from the boy, but he refused. Harris admitted to law enforcement officials that he asked the boy for explicit photos, and that continued until February 2020, when Harris blocked the minor on Snapchat. In the criminal complaint, Minor 2 is referred to as Minor 1's identical twin. Minor 2 complained that Harris was 'touchy' and did 'odd things' to him and his brother. Minor 2 reportedly noted Harris would get "pushy" about not sending nude photos. Minor 2 was also asked whether he wanted to meet for a sexual encounter by Harris. Other juveniles reportedly described Harris as "relentless" because he asked one of them for naked photos "for three straight hours." Harris allegedly paid the juvenile between $2,000 and $3,000 over the summer of 2020 for naked pictures. Harris allegedly had anal and oral sex with a 15-year-old at a cheer event in 2019 and received child pornography on Snapchat from 10 to 15 juveniles. In February, Harris pleaded guilty to child pornography and engaging in sexual conduct with a minor. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts! cheer gymnastics sports slave auction god complexes I was watching cheer on Netflix and it reminded me of so many causes that I am severely passionate as I have said previously the culture around competitive professional sports is awful What cheer really highlighted to me is how atheletes bodies are pushed to do things that they dont do naturally when the trinity superstar started jumping and flipping and was called the cheer Simone biles I totally expected to say that one and two I was scared I think this season showed a lot less injuries compared to the first season and I think that is due to the criticism it was so scary it reminds me so much of gymnastics which is so glamorized in the olympics as a sport but puts awful strain on bodies The cheerleaders are so obsessed with reaching these goals checking these boxes of winning and being praised for pushing their bodies to the next level this idea of being the best and being a hard worker its really scary to me because they are taught to not really listen to their bodies or even put their bodies first It reminds me again of the Colin kapepernick quote about how when you are tying out for teams its like a slave auction the way they describe the atheletes and what they can do with their bodies its literally like they aren't human and its like all of the comparisons they make to the athletes are of animals and other non human things its so fucked up Its like trauma bonding in cheer they constantly talk about the bond and the family they create and I feel like thats because they are put in hell constantly the episode this season of cheer where they are going full out and people are like sliding in sweat and taking turns puking is sick and disgusting and as much as I think Monica and other coaches did get a lot of unnecessary criticism I dont believe any coach should make their athletes continue to compete while hurt The only way I can describe the experience is like trauma, Stockholm syndrome and a tad of brainwashing like someone telling you something is okay when its not and he only reason I say that is because of peoples reaction to jerry Harris and his controversy One little thing that I picked up on during the jerry episode is that he still has a group of people behind him like that their were cheer moms that were going to house him while he awaited trial it was kind of disgusting and disturbing and it made me wonder how many of those moms had minors in their house that they would've been subjecting to an alleged sexual defender I think this is another example of the toxicity of professional sports you see in cheer season two the cheerleaders from Navarro gain this celebrity status and in some cases god complexes which I would say about how they portrayed jerry and how it made it easier for him to feel like he had power to abuse which he did You see the Navarro athletes start to see themselves as a brand and ive learned recently how toxic that is and you the cheerleaders take that competitive work horse work ethic from cheerleading and apply it to their so called brand Doing so many appearances and cameos and sponsorships no offense no wonder they lost in Daytona their coach was on fucking dancing with the starts for weeks!! And this is no offense to her but its just another example of overworking and capitalism these children are at a community college these coaches weren't making any money and now they have an avenue to be set uo for life of course they are going to take it but at what cost? When it taxes your body and your mental health is your life with this excess of money really that much better than your life below and I think this whole conversation translates to nba and nfl athletes as well when do they rest? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/al4s/message
You are NOT an Underdog. You just haven't showed them how good you really are. Today's episode is a quick pep talk based on a lesson Tiffany pulled while watching Netflix's new season of the docuseries CHEER. Trinity Valley Community College Cheerleaders, the team known as the "Underdogs" show up and give the best performance of their lives and their coach, Vontae Johnson, reminds them that they have always been the best, they just had to believe it enough themselves to go do it and prove it. Netflix "Cheer" star Jerry Harris is joined by Robert Scianna (Awesomeness TV Cheerleaders) & Mitchell Ryan (Navarro College Cheer) for allegations of misconduct with minors online. Allegations against "cheerlebrities" over inappropriate contact with minors over social media are adding up as more come forward with claims against Netflix's "Cheer" star Jerry Harris and Awesomeness TV's "Cheerleaders" former star Robert Scianna. Another Navarro College cheerleader Mitchell Ryan is in trouble as well for similar reasons. All this comes after revelations over a cheer mom making a deep fake to spite her child's cheer competition made national headlines, spurring a conversation around the environment created in all-star cheer and other competitive spaces for young people. This is a similar incident to recent allegations in James Charles' latest scandal.
Netflix looses subscribers over the Cuties controversy just as a star from a different Netflix show is arrested on child pornography charges. The little sister of Last Chance U? Only the cheer community will watch it? I mean where is Corsicana, Texas anyways? If some thought the Netflix series, “Cheer” wasn't going to be successful, think again. Monica Aldama is a hometown success story. Born and raised in Corsicana, she attended the UT business school and was well on her way to Wall Street. But, as I learned during the time together, she instead took over the Navarro College Cheer program at the age of 22. She even had some athletes older than her during that opening season. Her first competition consisted of driving a 14-passenger van to Downtown Dallas. Flash forward 25 years, and flights to Daytona Beach to compete at Nationals on the regular is quite the contrast. With over 660K Instagram followers, her life is much different than when we first ran a fundraiser for their national championship rings in 2018. However, her mat success has been constant throughout her tenure and this is the focus of our time. Why? Why is she so successful? Why are certain coaches so successful? Most seasons only end with one winner and how do we make sure it's us? There's not a magic formula or answer to the question, but there's many nuggets of gold to find in this week's #eTSChalkTalk, “Cheer Edition.”
Did you tune into Netflix's docuseries, Cheer? What did you think of the Navarro team culture portrayed? In light of all the tv-watching that's been happening while sheltering in place, we decided to keep it casual for this episode and chat about our perspective on this inspiring and intense show that follows the Navarro College cheer squad as they train for competitive cheerleading championships in Daytona, Florida. She chats with host and therapist Carter Umhau, LMHC, about the coaching style of Monica Aldama, and how it straddles the lines between a demand for perfectionism versus excellence, discipline versus dogma, all while creating a true team family.
