Our friend Betty had an unusual little personal business: she put on birthday parties for kids. She brought a pony for the children to ride, and a petting zoo of baby animals, including some little yellow chicks...which you don't ride. Actually she would rescue those chicks from a company whose business is chicken. They've told her that they have to remove any chicks that are speckled or spotted, and she was willing to take some of those and raise them on her farm. The reason that company has to remove those chicks is because of what the other chickens will do to any chick who has an imperfection. They literally will peck them to death. Pity the one who is not like all the others! I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "No Outsiders." I wish this business of rejecting the ones who are different was just a chicken thing. Unfortunately, it's very much a people thing, too. In fact, in your personal world - where you work, where you go to school, or in your community - I'm sure there's someone who is feeling rejected because they're perceived to be "different." Most of the time, they feel like "the outsider." We all know what that feeling is. If you belong to Jesus Christ, your mission is to do what our friend does with those spotted chicks - to give life to someone who's being rejected because they're different. Why? Because that's how your Master lived His life, and you're supposed to be following Him. Listen, for example, to our word for today from the Word of God beginning in Luke 18:39. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus hears that Jesus is passing his way, and he begins to yell loudly for Jesus to show him mercy, which is more than anyone else did for this man, because he lived on the margins. They saw the nuisance. Not Jesus; he saw the need. It says, "Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, 'Son of David, have mercy on me!' Jesus stopped and ordered the man brought to Him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 'What do you want Me to do for you?' 'Lord, I want to see,' he replied." And with a touch from Jesus, He did. This is so typical of the way Jesus operated wherever He went. He walked past the cheering crowd to find the one person who needed Him most - usually someone that everyone else was treating like an outsider. Whether it was blind Bartimaeus, the hated tax collector Zacchaeus, or the sinful woman nobody else wanted to be seen with, Jesus was always there for the outsider. Are you? To Jesus, and hopefully to those of us who follow Him, the outsiders are actually the VIPs! There's someone in your world who's feeling like the outsider right now. You might work with them. You might go to school with them. They might be in your town. They might be in your church. They might be in your own family. I'm just praying that the Lord will literally bring that person, or those persons, to your mind right now because He wants you to be His arms to go and bring that person in from the lonely margins that people have sentenced them to. Remember, the One you serve looks on the heart, not on the outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7). And if you've been the outsider, you of all people should want to dedicate yourself to making sure no one else has that awful feeling. You can begin to heal some of your own pain by finding some people who need your attention because they are all around you. Slowly but surely, a cruel, selfish world is emotionally pecking to death some people who are within your reach, and it's breaking your Savior's heart. Will you open your arms to them so they can taste the love of the Savior who doesn't consider anyone an outsider? After all, when Jesus was here, He was the outsider.

“You say we are homophobic, we say you are Islamophobic”. These were the words of a protester outside a primary school in Birmingham which has found itself on the front line of a culture war. Parents, many of them Muslim, have been protesting against a programme called, “No Outsiders.” According to the school’s website the programme teaches that “Everyone is welcome, regardless of their race, religion, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation and age.” The protesters claim that the “No Outsiders” curriculum is pushing a pro LGBT agenda and that this contradicts their religious beliefs. The school rejects their claim. The issue is not going to go away. From September next year, all primary schools are compelled to teach Relationship Education and parents at a number of other schools have raised concerns. At the heart of the matter is a clash of rights, a tension between the need to protect LGBT rights while accommodating certain religious convictions. How do you adjudicate between competing rights? The No Outsiders programme was created in 2014 by Andrew Moffat, the assistant headteacher at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham. The programme aims to teach children about the characteristics protected by the Equality Act - such as sexual orientation and religion. Books used in the programme include stories about a dog that doesn't feel like it fits in, two male penguins that raise a chick together and a boy who likes to dress up like a mermaid. But some parents at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham say lessons featuring books depicting same-sex relationships are not age-appropriate.  The lessons have created a furious debate, involving court injunctions and many pages of opinion columns.  The debate ultimately raises the big question about to what extent societies need to share the same values, and how those values are communicated to the next generation. Does a cohesive society have to uphold a shared and single version of the Good?  Or is okay for views on this topic to diverge? Should there be many different schools teaching different perspectives? Is it right for a state education system to impose a particular set of moral values on everyone, even if we are sympathetic to them? To what extent should the state shape and determine attitudes and feelings, and thought? Joining the IEA's digital manager Darren Grimes to discuss is Joanna Williams, associate editor at spiked and Benjamin Butterworth, Weekend Editor and reporter for the i newspaper.

The primary school teacher at the centre of a row over LGBT rights has said he's received threats. Pupils have been pulled out of Parkfield School in Birmingham and parents have protested outside the school gates, chanting 'Say no to No Outsiders'. No Outsiders is the programme Andrew Moffat designed to teach pupils to be accepting of different types of people - despite their race, religion or sexuality. Some story books he uses feature families with two mothers or two fathers. He says he designed the programme so that no child has to hide who they are as he did when he was young. The following is not a hypothetical scenario. Your four-year old daughter comes home from school and says, “I can wear my brother's clothes and he can wear mine. I can change my name to a boy's name.” Again, this scenario is not hypothetical. This is exactly what happened to British mum Mariam Ahmed recently. According to the UK Telegraph, Ahmed immediately checked with the parents of other children who attend the same school. Many, according to Ahmed, “had the same story to tell.” They learned that their Birmingham school, Parkview Community School, was participating in the “No Outsiders” program. The goal of the program is to “raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues” for children ages 4 through 11. “No Outsider” was launched by Parkview Community's assistant headmaster, Andrew Moffatt, an openly gay educator who's received awards from the Queen for “services to equality and diversity in education.” Now, as you might have guessed by the name, Ahmed is a Muslim. In fact, Parkview Community School is 98 percent Muslim. And as you may have guessed, most Muslim parents take a pretty dim view of this kind of thing. They believe that such programs aren't really about “raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues,” but more about the “sexual indoctrination” of their children. As Tariq Iqbal, the father of two children at Parkview Community told Britain's iNews: “My children and nieces and nephews are going around school corridors, hearing it's okay to be gay or lesbian. We don't have an issue with the orientation. That's a personal concern and a personal debate. But what we're not happy with is the way that they're drumming it into the children.” For many, like Mohammed Aslam, age is an issue. Aslam reports that his daughter, age six, came home from school one day confused and crying. “She said she was told children can have two mummies and two daddies,” and that she can wear boys' clothes. In response, the Muslim community has decided not to take this indoctrination lying down. Ahmed started a petition against the “No Outsiders” program. Parents organized a protest outside the school, which has been going on for weeks. On one Friday, 600 of the school's 740 families kept their children at home. Now those from other communities are joining in the protest. Dr. Lisa Nolland, a Christian professional, drove from Bristol to congratulate the Muslim parents for “showing the way” on how to deal with indoctrination. As Nolland told the Telegraph, “This isn't about religion, it isn't even about parents, it's about what's best for kids . . . This is literally eroticising child development. This is damaging children. The numbers of child-on-child sex abuse are awful. Turn the volume down.” While the Parkview parents have in some measure succeeded—the school has temporarily suspended the program—the national attention garnered by the protests has not been always favorable. For instance, one Muslim politician who sided with the parents and said the students were “too young” to be taught about homosexuality, “has since apologised for his comments and has been formally reported to Birmingham City Council's Standards Committee by Conservative councillor Gareth Moore, who is gay.” Commenting on the situation, Rod Dreher at the American Conservative wrote, “Notice that the parents, even though they believe homosexuality is immoral, do not object to age-sensitive treatment of the issue in schools. What they object to is this gender ideology being jammed down the throats of their young ones.” That critical distinction is crucial for American parents as well. The Muslims in Birmingham realize that British society accepts homosexuality and there's no way their children can avoid the issue. But these parents insist that the indoctrination, especially at such a young age, must stop. American parents can learn from this, and also insist, forcefully and civilly and no matter the pushback, that the government stop indoctrinating and sexualizing our children.     http://www.breakpoint.org/2019/03/breakpoint-eroticising-children/

As an assistant headteacher, Andrew Moffat has introduced a policy promoting diversity at Parkfield community school in Birmingham. His No Outsiders message teaches children to welcome those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender as well as people of any race, colour or religion. It’s been a huge success - parents, teachers and governors support Andrew’s work despite 98% of the school’s pupils being Muslim. In this episode Will and Chris travel to the school to meet him and learn how his efforts to spread LGBT awareness and understanding haven’t always been appreciated: Andrew left his previous school after parents complained about him telling the children he was gay. He tells Will and Chris what he learned from this experience and how he convinced Parkfield’s parents that children can be taught about Britain’s anti-discrimination laws without undermining their religious beliefs. Plus - listeners tell us their memories of school, Chris has been finding out about surrogacy and Will remembers a very awkward evening involving a video of Neighbours and a dog basket. Acts 11:1-18English Standard Version (ESV) Peter Reports to the Church 11 Now the apostles and the brothers[a] who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party[b] criticized him, saying, 3 “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” 4 But Peter began and explained it to them in order: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. 6 Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 8 But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ 9 But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ 10 This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. 11 And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea. 12 And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man's house. 13 And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; 14 he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ 15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?” 18 When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
