On this week’s episode, David Papadopoulos invites Bloomberg political reporter Nancy Cook and Bloomberg Businessweek’s Max Chafkin to the studio to discuss Elon Musk’s latest idea—the creation of the “America Party.” Third parties have famously been losing propositions in American politics, and Cook questions if the distractible multibillionaire even has the patience to handle the paperwork required to register with the Federal Election Commission. And then there’s his constant string of controversies. Chafkin wonders if there’s a reliable base out there hungry to support the party of a man who called Social Security a Ponzi scheme, initiated a feud with President Donald Trump (still popular with much of Musk’s theoretical rank and file) and whose “DOGE” initiative on Trump’s behalf is accused by some of worsening the catastrophic consequences of the recent flooding in Texas. Nevertheless, history shows just how disruptive third parties can be when the margins are slim, as they are now. Cook sees a small slice of the electorate, “tech bros who are like, ‘oh, right, we should cut Social Security, we should shrink the federal government’,” who could possibly be converted by the right wing business mogul. Later in the show, Papadopoulos and Chafkin are joined by Bloomberg stocks reporter Esha Dey to discuss the latest gyrations of the world’s most prominent meme stock, Tesla. The trio discuss the challenges facing the electric car company and dissect a recent eyebrow-raising note from analyst Dan Ives. The prominent Tesla bull presents a simple answer to Tesla’s woes: give Elon more money.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Elon Musk, until very recently one of the strongest backers of President Donald J. Trump, has announced his intention to form a “third-party” opposition to what he refers to as the GOP/Democrat “uni-party”—and, indeed, just today Musk filed with the Federal Election Commission to form the newly created “American Party.” Might it be more difficult to get a third-party off the ground than Trump envisions? What would the American Party stand for that is not already largely captured by the MAGA wing of the Republican party?  To the extent the American Party pursues particular political strategies, is it one likely to be embraced by the American people? Also, what are the likely political implications of an aggressive third-party in American politics? Is it likely to lead to an America more in line with the desires and aspirations of MAGA, or the desires and aspirations of the Democrats?  What has happened in the past when aggressive third-parties have entered the American political process? Finally, and most important, of the various political options on the table, is the launch of this American Party the choice most aligned with America's national interests, especially when we already have on the table the option of aggressively advancing MAGA in the displacement of RINO elements of the Republican party? The #1 guide for understanding when using force to protect yourself is legal. EASY LISTENING DEP'T.: The New York Times would not allow itself to write a news headline asserting that the president is abusing his power, but it's perfectly happy to go fishing for a quote that will say that. In this case, the fishing line is still visible, as what Trevor Potter, the president of the Campaign Legal Center and a former Republican chairman of the Federal Election Commission says, specifically is, “and yes, this is an example of Trump publicly and improperly threatening,” etc. which points back to his having been asked by the reporter to affirm the proposition that Trump is abusing his power. So he got the quote, the quote goes in quotation marks, and the Times simply reports it, as a thing in the world that someone factually spoke. Critics say there are many reasons to be afraid; as President Trump attempts to cow law firms via targeted executive orders, legal residents have found themselves detained and deported without due process, and Justice Department investigations have been nixed for political reasons, can lawyers, the courts and citizens rebuff these threats to the legal underpinning of democracy? Donald Trump took office as president on January 20, 2025, having already served one term. Immediately, however, he made clear his second term would be even more unpredictable than his first. He put one of the world's richest men — and his biggest campaign donor — in charge of a shadowy new entity with seemingly unfettered access to government data. Trump also blitzed the system with a barrage of executive orders, which have seemingly upended the government. He has done everything from threatening judges and lawyers to attacking the very concept of birthright citizenship, while Congress has remained largely on the sidelines. In short, Trump has moved aggressively against many of the checks and balances that American democracy has built in. As he works to consolidate power for the executive branch, other players have stepped up to challenge the president's moves — Campaign Legal Center among them. In this special episode of Democracy Decoded, our host Simone Leeper speaks with Trevor Potter, the president and founder of Campaign Legal Center, and Adav Noti, the executive director of Campaign Legal Center, to discuss what they've seen and what they're doing during this unprecedented moment.Host and Guests:Simone Leeper litigates a wide range of redistricting-related cases at Campaign Legal Center, challenging gerrymanders and advocating for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to influence our democracy. Prior to arriving at CLC, Simone was a law clerk in the office of Senator Ed Markey and at the Library of Congress, Office of General Counsel. She received her J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 2019 and a bachelor's degree in political science from Columbia University in 2016.Trevor Potter is President at Campaign Legal Center. A Republican former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Trevor was general counsel to John McCain's 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns and an adviser to the drafters of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. To many, he is perhaps best known for his recurring appearances on The Colbert Report as the lawyer for Stephen Colbert's super PAC, Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, during the 2012 election, a program that won a Peabody Award for excellence in reporting on money in politics. The American Bar Association Journal has described Trevor as “hands-down one of the top lawyers in the country on the delicate intersection of politics, law and money.” He has provided testimony and written statements to Congress on federal election proposals, campaign finance regulation and, recently, the effects of the January 6th attack on our democracy. During the 2020 election season, Trevor was named to the cross-partisan National Task Force on Election Crises.Adav Noti is Executive Director at Campaign Legal Center. He has conducted dozens of constitutional cases in trial and appellate courts and the United States Supreme Court. He also advises Members of Congress and other policymakers on advancing democracy through legislation. Prior to joining CLC, Adav served for more than 10 years in nonpartisan leadership capacities within the Office of General Counsel of the Federal Election Commission, and he served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Adav regularly provides expert analysis for television, radio, and print journalism. He has appeared on broadcasts such as The Rachel Maddow Show, Anderson Cooper 360, PBS NewsHour, and National Public Radio's Morning Edition, and he is regularly cited in publications nationwide, including the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Politico, Slate, and Reuters.Links:The Trump Administration's (Second) 100 Days: What You Need to Know – Campaign Legal CenterIt's almost Inauguration Day. In 2010, the Supreme Court issued a ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case that corporations (and, by extension, unions and other groups) may make unlimited expenditures on messages encouraging votes for or against specific candidates, so long as they're not coordinated with candidates or parties. This gave birth to Super PACs and a foray of oligarchs in the US democratic process. The first group of oligarchs though, influenced US democracy in the late 19th Century during the gilded era. With the Tech oligarchs at the helm in 2025, lot more is at stake than just election influence.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to insist on the dumbest possible reading of everything, including his claim that USAID subsidized Politico. Which, duh. Although maybe Politico thought they could get subsidized by the Trump “administration” if they licked his boots enough. Nope! Not only that, but Trump now thinks he's ordered the government-wide cancellation of all media contracts. Probably not the best one, though. The people Trump says he's “protecting” from “anti-Christian bias.” Of course, he also thinks he's protecting against anti-Jewish bias, too. The rich are not coming to Britain - they are leaving, if they haven't already left.More supply of houses, but less money to buy them with.Meanwhile, stamp duty is a massive deterrent to buyers. Never mind people choosing not to move because of it, anyone buying a second or third home - they're as good as gone: who is going to pay 5% stamp duty for a second or third home? Not many people, I wouldn't have thought. More supply, less money, fewer buyers. Then there is the general perception of the economy. Psychologically, people are not feeling rich, nor are they bullish about the economy, meaning fewer people will take the plunge. What about investment from overseas?See my earlier comment about stamp duty. The cost of buying drives away investment. Moreover, the UK is not currently well looked upon. Rich Americans, for example (normally a good source of buyers), are not going to pile in given, one, the costs of buying and, two, how the UK is currently perceived over there. Then Labour are going to loosen planning laws and build a whole load more houses - well, they say they are - meaning even more supply. As if that wasn't enough, 2026 is the year the 18-year-cycle in property turns down. If houses don't turn down this year, I'll declare this market permanently immune.2. Keir Starmer survivesHis premiership is already looking dicey. It's one crisis after another, and it's difficult to see how he survives, especially with all the rape gang stuff. However, I think short-term PMs became a bit normalised in the Cameron-May-Johnson-Truss-Sunak era. Cameron went because of Brexit. May went for the same reason. Johnson got his landslide, handed to him by Farage, but then Covid came along, and Johnson, under a lot of pressure from the Left, got the shove from Tory MPs with whom he was never particularly popular anyway, worried about their seats. Not having been elected, Truss and Sunak were toast before they even started.None of that applies to Starmer. I admit he is looking shaky, particularly under this extraordinary pressure from Elon Musk. But I still think it's too early for Labour MPs, worrying about their seats, to give him the shove, and it's normal for a PM to last the full term - what happened under the Idiots Tories was not normal - so somehow Starmer survives the year.3. Gold hits $3,000.I'm not wildly bullish about gold at the moment, at least in US dollar terms, though I still think it is absolutely essential you own some. One, because at some point the China gold story is going to hit the mainstream, and suddenly there will be a scramble for gold. It probably won't be this year, but you never know, and gold is one particular lifeboat you want to have ready in advance. Second, if you are in the UK, I think sterling has problems - more on this in a moment - and your wealth is much better stored in shiny yellow metal than it is in British government digital stuff. (You would normally say British government paper, but it isn't paper anymore). On which note, if you are buying gold to protect yourself in these uncertain times, I recommend The Pure Gold Company. Pricing is competitive, quality of service is high. They deliver to the UK, the US, Canada and Europe or you can store your gold with them. More here. And If you haven't already, take a look at my buddy Charlie Morris's monthly gold report, Atlas Pulse. It is, in my view, the best gold newsletter out there, and, best of all, it's free. Sign up here.$3,000 - landmark number though it is - is only 12.5% higher than where we are. We could easily see that by June.4. Microstrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) becomes a top 100 company by market cap. Currently, Deutsche Telecom (market cap US$145 bn) is 100th. Microstrategy is $85 billion at time of writing. It joins the elite. What a pick this has been for readers.5. Bitcoin … I was in Miami on New Year's Eve at Michael Saylor's - strictly on reconnaissance, of course - and one thing I learned there was that roughly half of corporate donations during the 2024 Presidential Election - $245m according to the Federal Election Commission - came from the crypto industry. Coinbase alone contributed $75 million. I'm a beneficiary, so I'm not complaining, but, really, you have to say, buying such favour is more than a little dodgy, even if that is how the world works and has almost always worked. But it means the likelihood of the Republicans delivering on their pledge for a strategic bitcoin reserve is likely. The US isn't going to buy a million coins straight away, but it may well buy 3-400,000 in year one. That sends bitcoin a lot higher. The prediction?

The FCC's Proposal to Regulate Political Ads Using Artificial Intelligence

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiated a proceeding that proposes to require radio and TV broadcasters as well as cable and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operators to include a disclaimer on all political advertisements that contain content generated by artificial intelligence (AI). The requirement would apply to both candidate and issue ads. The broadcasters of the ads also would be required to include a notice in their online political files disclosing the ad’s use of AI. The FCC’s rulemaking raises serious questions regarding the agency’s statutory authority to adopt the proposed rule and whether the Federal Election Commission has sole authority to administer federal election laws so that the FCC proposal is preempted. Moreover, as a matter of policy, objections have been raised regarding the FCC’s proposal. With the election just weeks away, a panel composed of notable experts will discuss and debate the FCC’s proposal.Featuring: Brendan Carr, FCC CommissionerChris Lewis, President, Public KnowledgeProf. Bradley Smith, Former FEC Chairman; Josiah H. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has filed to run for reelection in 2026, according to the Federal Election Commission. Pelosi, whose district covers San Francisco, has been in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1987. She was speaker of the House twice: from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023. President-elect Donald Trump has chosen former presidential rival North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum to lead the Department of the Interior. It's a critical position in Trump's plan to change American energy policy. The Interior Department was created to protect and manage the United States' natural resources and cultural heritage. The Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Parks Service, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs all fall under its umbrella. A newly introduced House bill would strip away the Chinese Communist Party's preferred trade status. The new tariffs would go to supporting U.S. farmers and manufacturers, with the aim of preventing the regime from continuing to grow its economic edge using unfair trade practices. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

So, six months into her campaign, Liuba petitioned the Federal Election Commission, making history as the first woman to receive federal approval to spend campaign funds for childcare. When New Hampshire voters picked up the phone earlier this year and heard what sounded like the voice of President Joe Biden asking them not to vote in that state's primary election, the stage was set for an unprecedented election year. The call was a deepfake — and the first major instance of artificial intelligence being used in the 2024 election. With the rise of AI tools that can credibly synthesize voices, images and videos, how are voters supposed to determine what they can trust as they prepare to cast their votes? To find out how lawmakers and civil society are pushing back against harmful false narratives and content, we talked with experts engaging the problem on several fronts. Stephen Richer, an elected Republican in Phoenix, posts on X (formerly Twitter) to engage misinformation head-on to protect Arizona voters. Adav Noti, the executive director of CLC, explains how good-governance advocates are hurrying to catch up with a profusion of new digital tools that make the age-old practices of misinformation and disinformation faster and cheaper than ever. And Mia Hoffman, a researcher who looks at the effects of AI on democracies, reminds voters not to panic — that bad information and malicious messaging don't always have the power to reach their audience, let alone sway people's opinions or actions.Host and Guests:Simone Leeper litigates a wide range of redistricting-related cases at CLC, challenging gerrymanders and advocating for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to influence our democracy. Prior to arriving at CLC, Simone was a law clerk in the office of Senator Ed Markey and at the Library of Congress, Office of General Counsel. She received her J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 2019 and a bachelor's degree in political science from Columbia University in 2016.Stephen Richer is the 30th Recorder of Maricopa County.  He was elected in November 2020 and took office in January 2021. His office of approximately 150 employees records hundreds of thousands of public documents every year, maintains a voter registration database of 2.4 million voters -- the second largest voting jurisdiction in the United States -- and administers the mail voting component of all elections in Maricopa County. Prior to his time as Recorder, Stephen worked in various business sectors and, later, as an attorney at the law firms Steptoe & Johnson LLP and Lewis Roca LLP.  He holds a J.D. and M.A. from The University of Chicago and a B.A. from Tulane University.  He is completing his PhD at Arizona State University.Adav Noti is Executive Director at Campaign Legal Center. He has appeared on broadcasts such as The Rachel Maddow Show, Anderson Cooper 360, PBS NewsHour, and National Public Radio's Morning Edition, and he is regularly cited in publications nationwide, including the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Politico, Slate, and Reuters.Mia Hoffmann is a Research Fellow at Georgetown's Center for Security and Emerging Technology. Her research focuses on AI harm incidents, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of failure modes and the efficacy of risk mitigation practices. In recent work, she examined the uses of AI in US election administration and their risks to electoral integrity. Prior to joining CSET, Mia worked at the European Commission and as a researcher in Brussels, where she studied AI adoption and its implications. The peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of American democracy that sets the United States apart — the so-called north star of our electoral system. Yet the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 challenged that tradition profoundly. In the lead-up to this November, we answer the question that is on the minds of many voters: Will the months after this presidential election look like the aftermath of the last one? Fortunately, lawmakers who were caught in the eye of that storm seized the opportunity to make updates to our election laws that were, by some accounts, about 150 years overdue. In 2021, Congress passed the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act, or ECRA, in an effort to curtail the tactics that bad actors could use to exploit the Electoral College and to define and streamline the procedures by which states count and certify election results.Catie Kelley of CLC joins us to explain how an otherwise deeply divided Congress pulled together to pass this important law, and why the passage of this new law will help ensure that this presidential election goes much more smoothly than the last one. Host and Guests:Simone Leeper litigates a wide range of redistricting-related cases at CLC, challenging gerrymanders and advocating for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to influence our democracy. Prior to arriving at CLC, Simone was a law clerk in the office of Senator Ed Markey and at the Library of Congress, Office of General Counsel. She received her J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 2019 and a bachelor's degree in political science from Columbia University in 2016.Catie Kelley is Senior Director for Policy & Strategic Partnerships at Campaign Legal Center. Previously, Catie built and ran CLC's state campaign finance program. In that capacity, she worked with state and local stakeholders and policymakers to advance innovative policies designed to decrease the influence of money in the political process. She began her legal career in the Federal Election Commission's Office of General Counsel.  Links:We Voted, Now What? The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (07/10/2024): 3:05pm- More big names are publicly questioning whether it's in the Democratic Party's best interest to place Joe Biden at the top of their 2024 ticket—including actor George Clooney and Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman. In a post on X, former Obama Administration speech writer—and co-host of Pod Save America—Jon Lovett explained, “it's hard to deny that in the two weeks since the debate, it's the arrogant and small Joe Biden we've seen most - hanging on, bragging, defensive, angry, weak. Who else but him? he wonders aloud. Only God could change his mind, he tells us. The stakes for the country are all that matter. The stakes for Joe Biden are beside the point. But it's worth saying just the same: Joe Biden can leave office as one of the greatest presidents in our lifetimes, who defeated Trump and put his country first at every turn; or he can leave a stubborn old man who allowed hubris and insecurity to destroy his legacy and perhaps our democracy with it. We all have our best and worst selves, scrambling over each other, battling it out in the moments that define us. Where is the Joe Biden we elected? Where is the statesman? I hope that version of him shows up soon. And I hope the people around him know where to look.” You can read the full statement here: https://x.com/jonlovett/status/1811086031531495457 3:15pm- Is there more to John Lovett's denunciation of Joe Biden's presidential candidacy than initially meets the eye? Rich notes that all of a sudden quite a few Obama-loyalists are aggressively attempting to convince Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Is Barack Obama orchestrating Biden's exit behind the scenes? 3:35pm- In his latest opinion article for The Wall Street Journal, former Counsel to the Chairman of the Federal Election Commission Charlie Spies writes: “If [President Joe] Biden drops out before the Democratic Party formally makes him its nominee, then Federal Election Commission rules dictate that no more than $2,000 of any campaign funds that he raised may be transferred to any other candidate, including [Vice President Kamala] Harris.” You can read the full op-ed here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-has-100-million-reasons-to-stay-in-election-finance-d8a2dfdf?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 3:40pm- What on earth did Joe Biden just say about NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's wife!?!? Poor Mrs. Stoltenberg! According to the official White House transcript, Biden said: “Mr. Secretary, you've guided this alliance through one of the most consequential periods in its history. I realize I—as I was talking to your wife—I personally asked you to extend your service. (Laughs.) Forgive me. (Laughter.)” But that isn't at all what it sounded like… 4:05pm- Caroline Sunshine—Deputy Director of Communications, Donald J. Trump for President—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to preview next week's Republican National Convention and the party's new platform which explicitly promises to prevent World War III. PLUS, she offers a recap of last night's big Trump campaign rally in Doral, Florida where an estimated 45,000 supporters attended. 4:15pm- During Tuesday's campaign rally in Doral, Florida, Donald Trump challenged Joe Biden to 18 rounds of golf—and pledged to donate $1 million to a charity of Biden's choosing if Biden wins. Biden's campaign team quickly rejected the offer. Trump also weighed-in on Biden's health—accusing the White House of engaging in “the biggest cover-up in political history” by hiding the president's quickly diminishing cognitive abilities. 4:35pm- While speaking with MSNBC, Rep. Nancy Pelosi said of Joe Biden's presidential candidacy: “It's up to the president to decide if he is going to run.” Her statement is far from an endorsement. 4:45pm- Is there more to John Lovett's denunciation of Joe Biden's presidential candidacy than initially meets the eye? Rich notes that all of a sudden quite a few Obama-loyalists are aggressively attempting to convince Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Is Barack Obama orchestrating Biden's exit behind the scenes? 5:05pm- Trump's Vice President Pick: According to Michael C. Bender of The New York Times, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had hoped to announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention. However, “convention rules require the party to nominate its presidential ticket on Monday, and it would be hard to nominate a ticket that's not yet officially announced. Republicans could vote on a rule change, but that would be just one of many changes that would ripple across the convention program.” Bender continues: “On Saturday, Mr. Trump will visit Butler County, Pa…The location would seem to be an ideal setting to introduce Mr. Vance, the former venture capitalist and best-selling author of “Hillbilly Elegy.” Another potential hint: One of the closest Ohio towns to Butler County is East Palestine, where Mr. Vance and Mr. Trump teamed up in February 2023 to criticize the Biden administration's response to a train derailment that forced residents to evacuate and escape toxic chemicals.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/10/us/politics/trump-running-mate-finale.html 5:20pm- On Wednesday, The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro testified before the House Judiciary Committee condemning government influence on social media platforms. 5:25pm- On a recent episode of his podcast, NBC's Chuck Todd conceded that two years ago a Biden Administration cabinet official told him that Joe Biden can't possibly run again due to health impairments. 5:30pm- In a video acquired by TMZ, George Stephanopoulos can be heard saying that he doesn't believe Joe Biden has the ability to serve as president for another four years. Last week, Stephanopoulos conducted a longform interview with Biden. 5:45pm- Luke Rosiak of The Daily Wire reports: “The Department of Human Services has lost at least 85,000 children who crossed the border illegally as ‘unaccompanied minors' after placing them with ‘sponsors' who may be trafficking the children into prostitution or forced labor, according to multiple government whistleblowers who laid out the process to a Senate panel Tuesday.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/whistleblowers-detail-how-85000-unaccompanied-minors-went-missing-after-biden-admin-dropped-them-off-with-sponsors?topStoryPosition=2 6:05pm- Ryan Saavedra of The Daily Wire writes: “White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Tuesday that a Parkinson's disease doctor who visited the White House in January did, in fact, meet with President Joe Biden, correcting a false claim she had made the day before. Jean-Pierre had been asked whether a meeting on January 17 between White House physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor and neurologist Dr. Kevin Cannard, revealed by White House visitor logs, was related to Biden. The AP reported that it was the only visit the two had, at least on paper, between July 2023 and March 2024. That period came into focus because Cannard had visited the White House eight times during that span.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/karine-jean-pierre-falsely-claimed-parkinsons-doctor-didnt-meet-biden-in-january 6:20pm- More big names are publicly questioning whether it's in the Democratic Party's best interest to place Joe Biden at the top of their 2024 ticket—including actor George Clooney and Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (07/09/2024): 3:05pm- During a chaotic White House press briefing on Monday, reporters grilled Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre over a report that a Parkinson's disease specialist has visited the White House multiple times in recent months. Tuesday's presser didn't go much better. Jean Pierre blamed Biden's poor debate performance on a cold and emphasized it was not the result of a neurological disorder. She went on to explain that the president immediately visited North Carolina, Georgia, New York, and New Jersey—illustrating his strength. So, was he just spreading his germs to potential voters? Despite spending a considerable amount of time attempting to claim President Biden is in perfect health, Jean Pierre was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to why a Parkinson's doctor has visited the White House so frequently. Is the White House participating in a massive cover-up? 3:25pm- In a new piece documenting White House aides hiding President Joe Biden's diminishing health from the public, the Wall Street Journal writes of one previously undocumented incident: “German officials, aware of Biden's fatigue at night, sought to accommodate the president by planning a June 2022 event with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the early evening. The informal event, a soiree at the Alpine resort Schloss Elmau during the Group of Seven summit, was arranged as a confidential meeting on Ukraine in a relaxed setting. Biden didn't show, surprising the chancellor and his aides, officials said. Instead, Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived and announced that Biden had to go to bed, according to two people who were there.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/joe-biden-age-public-election-campaign-343a47bf?mod=hp_lead_pos7 3:30pm- During Tuesday's press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre claimed that “if I have said, or misled in something that I have said—or I haven't had the full information, I actually own up to it.” But as Rich notes, she has participated in weeks and weeks of gaslighting—amounting to a cover-up. 3:45pm- At one point during Tuesday's White House press conference, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked: “Say the Pentagon, at some point, picks up an incoming nuke—it's 11pm. Who do you call? The First Lady?” 4:05pm- In his latest opinion article for The Wall Street Journal, former Counsel to the Chairman of the Federal Election Commission Charlie Spies writes: “If [President Joe] Biden drops out before the Democratic Party formally makes him its nominee, then Federal Election Commission rules dictate that no more than $2,000 of any campaign funds that he raised may be transferred to any other candidate, including [Vice President Kamala] Harris.” You can read the full op-ed here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-has-100-million-reasons-to-stay-in-election-finance-d8a2dfdf?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 4:20pm- While speaking with Sean Hannity on Fox News, presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested that if Democrats remove Joe Biden at the top of their ticket it'll be Kamala Harris that takes his place. 4:30pm- Daniel Chaitlin of The Daily Wire reports: “President Joe Biden formally rejected on Monday a bill in Congress that would require individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office. A policy statement from the Biden administration said it ‘strongly opposes' the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) earlier this year and is expected to get a vote in the Republican-led House as early as this week, but did not mention the prospect of a veto.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-formally-opposes-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship?topStoryPosition=3 4:50pm- Who will Donald Trump pick to be his running mate? Doug Burgum? Marco Rubio? J.D. Vance? Plus, why is Matt not invited to the White House Easter Egg Roll? 5:05pm- House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar reiterated their support for President Joe Biden's reelection campaign when asked by the press. Notably, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said “she's not here to give advice” to her colleagues and that discussions about Biden's ability to serve as president for another four-years should be made in “private.” 5:15pm- J.D. Tuccille of Reason.com writes that “the New York State government agreed to subsidize news media.” He continues: “With audiences declining for news reports, many very concerned people have called on governments to do something to prop up outlets failing to win enough public support to keep the lights on. That something comes in the form of money unlikely to win back an indifferent public but that stabilizes employment prospects for reporters. The result may be that journalists will cater to state officials rather than woo readers and viewers.” You can read the full article here: https://reason.com/2024/07/08/if-you-dont-trust-media-now-wait-until-its-government-funded/ 5:35pm- Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy said that it was not uncommon for First Lady Jill Biden to attend meetings with President Joe Biden. 5:40pm- At one point during Tuesday's White House press conference, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked: “Say the Pentagon, at some point, picks up an incoming nuke—it's 11pm. The Harris team's shortlist includes Governors Josh Shapiro (PA), Andy Beshear (KY), and Roy Cooper (NC). 6:05pm- Things go off the rails quickly in the six o'clock hour: Matt says pizza from Italy is overrated, a man collected every single Wawa sandwich receipt numbered 0 to 999, and Rep. Cori Bush is still crazy. 6:15pm- While appearing on The View, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer confirmed that she would support Kamala Harris were she to become the Democrat party's presidential nominee. 6:20pm- CNN Political Director David Chalian examined polling data post-presidential debate, revealing: “Pre-debate, Donald Trump had a two-point edge in a poll...49% to 47%. That's a pretty close race. You see post-debate Donald Trump has stayed the same. He didn't grow his support with the debate, but Joe Biden took on some water. He is down to 44%. And that's a five-point lead in the poll for Donald Trump…But we are now talking about the light blue states, perhaps Minnesota, Virginia, New Mexico that are leaning Democratic.” He also explained that Trump now has a 10% advantage with independent voters.  6:35pm- First Lady Jill Biden now has her own entrance music…and it's just as terrible as you're imagining. One caller suggests it sounds like something Oompa Loompas would dance to. Hey look! There is Augustus Gloop! 6:40pm- While speaking before the House Financial Services Committee, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen denied that Joe Biden's cabinet members have ever considered invoking the 25th Amendment to replace him.
