Haití continúa en una espiral de violencia, crisis humanitaria y de problemas políticos. El 3 de octubre, la banda criminal Gran Grif cometió una masacre en la pequeña localidad de Pont-Sondé, que dejó más de cien muertos y causó el desplazamiento de unas 6.000 personas. Un día antes, tres de los nueve miembros del Consejo Presidencial de Transición fueron acusados de corrupción. Y a ello se sumó el inicio de un plan de deportaciones masivas en República Dominicana, a donde han huido miles de haitianos debido a la violencia.  Ante este cúmulo de problemas, calificado por la ONU como un cataclismo, ¿qué camino puede tomar este empobrecido país? #Ep.043 Nepal aims, ambitiously, to reach net zero emissions by 2045. Doing so requires it to extensively curb emissions from its energy sector, which accounts for 54% of its total emissions. One of its action plans to that end was a push to use green renewables through alternative cooking practices, where electric cooking has massive potential. It aims to ensure that electric stoves are used as the primary mode of cooking in 25% of households by 2030. In today's episode, PEI colleague Shreeya Rana sits in conversation with Suman Basnet, to discuss Nepal's energy scenario, with a special focus on the potential of shifting to electric cooking. The two discuss the opportunities and challenges in transitioning to clean cooking practices, given its unique socio-economic and cultural practices. They also talk about the positive social, economic, and environmental impacts of shifting to cleaner forms of cooking, and its potential to mitigate climate change vulnerabilities. Suman Basnet is the Team Leader at the Nepal Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), a Government of Nepal Programme supported by the British Embassy in Kathmandu. He is a renewable energy and management professional with over 35 years of experience in the development and private sectors. Speaking on an episode of Tech Talk Radio, Mikkel Bulow-Lehnsby, co-founder of Copenhagen-based fund 2150 said that property companies have been lulled into "short-term shareholder timeframes" and that 2150 has been set up to help the industry reframe the urban environment. "We should try not to see real estate as an asset, but as a product," he said on this episode of Tech Talk Radio. "We need to focus on how we make that product more sustainable, customer-centric and efficient." Bulow-Lehnsby, who also co-founded European real estate investor NREP, added that anyone who is still part of the climate change problem within 10 years "won't have a business." He was joined on the podcast by former Sidewalk Labs head of sustainability Nicole LeBlanc who is now platform partner at 2150. She said that with so much time pressure on the sector to embrace and fuel change fast, the noise within the industry around ESG can be overwhelming. She said that 2150's investors often come to them saying they have more than one tech company offering the same solution and they don't know where to start. "Don't get analysis paralysis," she said. "Put them all up against each other, work out what the outcome would be if you implemented each of them within your business. Ask for customer references and feedback. Pilot two of them if you still aren't sure. But you have to start somewhere." Lærke Hein arbejder lige nu med byplanlægning ved ejendomsvirksomheden NREP, som investerer i og udvikler på at opføre bedre ejendomme og bydele. Hun har ellers stor erfaring fra kulturbranchen, har skabt Distortion Festival, været direktør for Pumpehuset og Live-chef ved Politiken, men sidder nu og udvikler bydele og arkitektur, der skal kunne klare fremtidens ønsker til bolig, vind og vejr. Mjølnerparken er et område på Nørrebro i København, som står på regeringens liste over parallelsamfund - den tidligere ghettoliste - og derfor skal området leve op til nogle særlige krav, fx må der maksimalt være 40 procent almene boliger. Samtidigt med det her salg finder sted, så har beboerne i Mjølnerparken sagsøgt bolig- og indenrigsministeriet for den lovgivning, de har vedtaget - beboerne mener, den diskriminerer på baggrund af etnicitet. Vi taler med køberne, sælgerne og dem, der bor der. Og på lillejuleaften tager vi også den traditionsrige runde til DSB og Vejdirektoratet - for at høre, hvordan det går med juletrafikken på landets veje og tognet - for togrejsende jo nu med krav om ikke alene mundbind, men også coronapas. Hvordan kommer man overhovedet hjem til jul, hvis man ikke kan fremvise en ren coronatest og ikke har egen bil? Det kommer blandt andet an på - hvor sød en far, man har - skal det vise sig! We explore the past, present, and expectations of Hyperco as well as their strategy to expand in the Nordic region. Establishing Hyperco In the interview, Aleksi discussed how Hyperco was conceptualized, the current conditions, and the plans for the future on our latest Hawk Talk. The co-founders of Hyperco, Ville Vartiainen, Timo Pohjanpalo, and Aleksi started researching the data center market and found it to be an interesting niche. They found that there weren't many development-oriented investors in the Nordic region in the space, which opened the opportunity for a new entrant. They found that the area has a good amount of potential growth as the industry becomes more mature. Due to Aleksi's background at Nordic institutional investor NREP, he was able to raise the capital they needed to start Hyperco. Sustainability and the plan on expanding Hyperco Sustainability is the core of the Hyperco mission. Aleksi discussed how they are looking to use the waste energies that cause global warming and turn it into something useful by using it to run data centers. Hyperco is working with the team that opened Google's Finland data center and the 50-megawatt Yandex data center in Mäntsälä. This group was one of the first in the world to work in this kind of waste recovery program, which is currently warming around 80% of the 20,000 person municipality of Mäntsälä. Hyperco sees a large opportunity to bring similar arrangements to other areas and wants to mimic their success in helping their communities. When it comes to expansion, Aleksi stated that they want to focus on the Nordic region right now, but that they are in the process of hiring people from different parts of the world in hopes of becoming multinational. They are following the market closely and are interested in the East European Region and areas close to it, where there is a lot of data center activity.
