Could my tears forever flow, Could my zeal no languor know, These for sin could not atone—Thou must save, and Thou alone: In my hand no price I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling. While I draw this final breath, When my eyes shall close in death, When I rise to worlds unknown, And behold Thee on Thy throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee. Be Thou My VisionBe Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Nought be all else to me, save that Thou art—Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all. O God, Our Help in Ages PastO God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!Under the shadow of Thy throne Still may we dwell secure; Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting Thou are God, To endless years the same. A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night, Before the rising sun. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be Thou our guide while life shall last, And our eternal home! Amen.
This Sunday, Rick Hutton preaches the Messiah's promise to heal the divisions of the earth.

We've said that our best episodes are ones in which we disagree. This is one of those. Today we're looking at the ancient hymn "Be Thou My Vision," which asks God to be many things to the Christian. We make sure to include the oft-dropped "battle shield" verse. Colin emphasizes the necessity to include explicit reference to soteriological themes in music while Tyler investigates the variety offered by grammatical mood. Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one/ Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight; Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight; Thou my soul's Shelter, Thou my high Tow'r: Raise Thou me heav'nward, O Pow'r of my pow'r. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. Face To Face? Day after day, O Ruler of my life, shall I stand before You face to face? With folded hands, O Ruler of all worlds, shall I stand before You face to face? Under Your great sky, in solitude and silence with humble heart, shall I stand before You face to face? In this laborious world of Yours, tumultuous with toil and with struggle, among hurrying crowds, shall I stand before You face to face? And when my work shall be done in this world, O Ruler of rulers, alone and speechless, shall I stand before You face to face? Rabindranath Tagore The Heart of God: Prayers of Rabindranath Tagore. Lyrics: Verse 1 (sung at the beginning) Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art-- thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Verse 2 (sung at the ending) Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my great Father, thy child I shall be thou in me dwelling, and I one with thee. Verse 3 Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always: thou and thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure thou art. Verse 4 High King of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. Join us in-person Wednesday, February 17th, between 8am-1pm at St Luke’s on 5th - 1150 W. 5th Ave. You can use the audio track (bring headphones!) and the liturgy below. OPENING PRAYER: God,You are the Maker of all things and judge of all that you have made. From the dust of the earth you have formed us and from the dust of death you will raise us up. By the redemptive power of the cross, create in us clean hearts, and put within us a new spirit -- that we may repent of our sins and lead lives worthy of your calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.SilenceScripture"Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning."Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.Who knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing— grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God. Excerpts from Psalm 51Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.SilenceLet’s pray together. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have to loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name, Amen.SilenceBe Thou My Vision Verse 1 Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art Thou my best thought, by day or by night Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. The lyrics for Be Thou My Vision by Audrey Assad Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art Thou my best Thought, by day or by night Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord Thou my great Father, I Thy true son Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise Thou mine Inheritance, now and always Thou and Thou only, first in my heart High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art High King of Heaven, my victory won May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heav'n's Sun Heart of my own heart, whate'er befall Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all What is it that's important about a Vision Statement for my business? Lindsay Teague Moreno, business owner and author, says that a vision statement is "by contrast to a mission statement, is a big picture what the company will become in the future." Talking about a mission and vision statement "these two things will serve asthe basis for everything you say and do and put out into the world." If we don't know what our vision is and what we're creating and how that will be portrayed to the world, we're going to be floating around and not really having a direction. If you don't have a vision statement, my encouragement is that you create one. Your vision statement should be consistent with your values, your passions, your strengths and your spiritual gifts. Clear, easy to remember and in every day language. Google's vision statement is to "provide access to the world's information in one click." You might be a visionary, you might not. I think I am sort of a visionary, but I get really intimidated when I sit down to write out a vision statement. You can ask "where does God want me in the future?" "how is my business pointing to the cross?" "where does God want my business in the future?" Because, as christian business owners, we want to be representing Jesus as his ambassadors. We think about the verse like Eph 2:10 says, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." The other cool things about creating a vision statement, we can point to Jesus. I've frequently said your business doesn't have to "look" Christian, it doesn't need to have Christian symbols on it, what it does need, is to be pointing to Jesus. It's about what our business looks like and what we do once we go out into the world. I'm going to help you get super practical - I want you to use the next few minutes and download the worksheet to create your own vision statement. Dream about the direction that your business is going, what are the big dreams that God has placed on your heart? Part of my vision is that I'm going to be speaking to thousands of women which is so scary! But I know that God's got this and he's put that vision on my heart. I'd love for you to email me your vision statements so I can see what you've created. You can email me with those, questions or comments at dmr@daniellemroberts.com. Download the worksheets here.

Mosaic Gathering Prayer: April 14, 2019God, Creator of our world, artist of our hearts, author of our stories, we come to you with tired bones and white knuckles, as we attempt to hold on so tightly to what isn’t ours. We acknowledge your presence as it fills this room through the breath from our lungs. You are the beginning and the end, we come to You. You feel our anxieties and you see our struggle. You know the weight of what we carry, let us let You lighten this load. Lord, relieve us. Help us to see You in every space of our hearts, stories, and individual worlds. In the spaces that may be seen but also in the unseen. Lord, reveal to us. Let us be in awe of the immensity of your Spirit. Let the vastness of your love, overwhelm us. Lord, inspire us. Meet us in the darkness where our questions cast shadows, may the light of your love draw us in close.Lord, lead us. As we come together with others in community, reveal to us your beauty through the hearts you gave them. Lord, pursue us. Let us pay attention to your meticulous detail and care as the robust colors of Spring reveal themselves.Lord, show us.May we never take for granted your intimate nearness. May we see, hear, and feel you all around us. Unite us together through the shared struggles and joys of our lives. As we seek, we find our identities in You, everlasting strength and infinite love. Amen

Some of you who have been with Piano by Joel since the beginning will recall that I've previously recorded Be Thou My Vision, to the tune of the old Irish folk tune, Slane. But since I am always trying to improve the quality, musicality, and expressiveness of my work, I wanted to bring you something new. (Fresh?) This version features the solo piano, of course, giving the arrangement a contemporary feel; but I think you'll also find that the playing style, and the accompanying cello, lend a certain ancient quality to the piece. Here are the lyrics, translated into English by Eleanor Hull around the turn of the century:Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heartNaught be all else to me, save that Thou artThou my best Thought, by day or by nightWaking or sleeping, Thy presence my lightBe Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true WordI ever with Thee and Thou with me, LordThou my great Father, I Thy true sonThou in me dwelling, and I with Thee oneBe Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fightBe Thou my Dignity, Thou my DelightThou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high TowerRaise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my powerRiches I heed not, nor man’s empty praiseThou mine Inheritance, now and alwaysThou and Thou only, first in my heartHigh King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou artHigh King of Heaven, my victory wonMay I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s SunHeart of my own heart, whatever befallStill be my Vision, O Ruler of allUntil next time.Click Here to ListenPurchase a CD from CD BabyPurchase songs on iTunesFresh Piano WebsiteContact JoelLink to Piano by Joel For lots of free, original music, check out http://www.freshpiano.com.
