Tracy Tullier, a Breaux Bridge resident and Supervising Guide of Tours at the Louisiana State Capitol, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss her beloved work in guiding people through our state's majestic Capitol, as well as sharing Louisiana's rich history with visitors who hail from all parts of the U. S. and countries around the world. Tracy Tullier at the Louisiana State Capitol, photo credit to Jan Risher, the Advocate. While many Louisiana residents have never experienced the tour of our State Capitol, in 2023 visitors from 115 different countries made the trip, and over 65,000 registered signed in. Tracy explained that in addition to these registered guests, many people don't sign in for a tour but still show up to wander around the beautiful building and make the trip up to the top floor Observation Deck to take in the sights of the Mississippi River, LSU's campus, and surrounding buildings of downtown Baton Rouge and beyond. Tracy came to our attention over the past couple of years when Lafayette Junior Leadership Class students traveled to Baton Rouge to learn about state government, the legislative sessions held at the State Capitol, and have the opportunity to meet elected officials from Acadiana. She makes the day, her smile captures your heart, and you know you are in good hands. Tracy is professional, enthusiastic, and well-informed, ready to shape your understanding about Louisiana, weaving in facts and tidbits of historical events such as when Huey Long was shot inside the Capitol building, how the current State Capitol came to be built, and how the House of Representatives and Senate work. On her tours, Louisiana really comes to life! Pictures below were taken by Jan Risher of the Advocate and depict the chandeliers on the Capitol's first floor (which weigh two tons), and photos of the Senate and House Chambers. The Louisiana State Capitol was built in 14 months, and cost $5 million to construct. It was the brainchild of Governor and U. S. Senator Huey Long. It is the tallest capitol in the United States. And as Tracy Tullier states, "Our capitol has more questions than it does answers" when she recounts the many interesting events that have taken place in the building, including Huey Long's death, the bombing that took place in the Senate Chamber in 1970, and how thereafter, a pencil (or something) got stuck in the Senate Chamber's ceiling. Ironically, Senator Long died before he could dedicate the Capitol, so that honor was fulfilled by his successor, Louisiana Governor Oscar K. ("OK") Allen. Pictured below is a photo of the early Capitol Building. If you haven't made this trip to Baton Rouge to visit the Capitol, this tour should be added to your bucket list of things to do in your lifetime, as it is truly a lifetime adventure and one that will awaken your interest in Louisiana culture. Tracy Tullier and her fellow tour guides are employed by Louisiana's Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, under the office of Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. Tracy worked at the Slidell Welcome Center before being employed at the Capitol several years ago, and encourages people to check out all of our state's Welcome Centers to learn more about Louisiana. During the interview, she thanked her boss, Jason Miller, for his support, and complimented her peers throughout the state who are employed at our regional welcome centers who encourage people to check out local attractions, dining, lodging, and events as they pass through Louisiana. Before you travel to the Capitol, you may want to visit online at https://house.louisiana.gov/pubinfo/VirtualTour/lacaphistory.htm to gain more information about the experience. The State Capitol is free and open daily for tours, from 8 till 4:30 p.m. If you want to make a reservation for the tour, call 225-342-7317. The tour guides will confirm your appointment via email. You can also walk in without an appointment and req...

Festivus: The non-commercial holiday's celebration, as depicted on Seinfeld, occurs on December 23 and includes a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, practices such as the "airing of grievances" and "feats of strength", and the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles" 0:15 Intro, some history about Festivus as we held it on the Observation Deck. 03:27 Airing of Grievances: Everyone gets two each. ONE towards an airline or loyalty program, ONE towards a bank. Sam: No Knock Devaluations in general. Trevor shared one of these happening in real time. Bank: Bank of America. Fraud happy, and full of themselves. Tom: Alaska Airlines end of 50K to asia MGM stays get bonvoyed Trevor: Loyalty program: Another Alaska no notice devaluation, making JAL awards even more expensive, from 70k to 100k for JAL F to Japan, one way. US Bank: I have a history of being unimpressed, such that I stayed away for a while, however I went back to the well, with a $500 business checking bonus. This may have been self inflicted, but US Bank is not the easiest to work with. 13:45 Alaska/Hawiian Merger Talk 20:20 Hyatt requalification and “Settle for Good Enough” 23:20 Feats of Strength Traditionally, it's "Your favorite redemptions/miles and points usage over the course of the year. Not that this was an especially strong feat of strength but it seems like it is. I'm Bank: AA miles with a Citi Business card Tom: Award trip to Australia exact dates i needed for a Trevor: Loyalty Program: The incredibleness that has been Aeroplan with the super cheap lap infant that let us travel at a ludicrous pace. Whatever brought you the most miraculous joy in the miles and points game this year. Sam: Vacasa with Wyndham Rewards. 1 year ago I bought 300,000 of these for cash on points.com. The word “observe” keeps coming up. For example, I have this great book called, The Observation Deck by Naomi Epel. Essentially, it's a tool for writers. While re-reading it recently, one of the prompts jumped out at me: eavesdropping. “Yes!” I thought. "Eavesdropping...as in, listen to observe..." While in observation, however, we often sit in judgment of ourselves and of others. But what if we could be the observer for the sake of enjoying what we notice? Put another way, what if we could observe for the sake of observing? This is, after all, why we meditate. We're here to observe our thoughts. So as we come together today, I invite you to meditate and ask: how can we hold ourselves in that place of judgement-free observation? And as always, please enjoy! An observation deck that sits 3,251 meters above sea level was built on top of the Schnals [shnals] Valley Glacier in South Tyrol, Italy. Called Ötzi Peak, the deck was named after Ötzi the Iceman, the world's oldest glacier mummy, who lived between 3400 and 3100 BCE. Ötzi Peak, which overlooks the area where the mummy was found in 1991, was designed and built by local architectural group noa* (network of architecture). The observation deck is a light structure made out of steel. It is supported by only a few beams beneath it, making it seem to be floating in the air. Visitors can go close to the edge of the deck to see an unobstructed view of the surroundings. One of the deck's best features is a glass-enclosed area that juts out of one of its sides, directly above the site where Ötzi the Iceman was discovered. Currently, entrance to Ötzi Peak is free. The site is within a stone's throw of the Glacier Hotel Grawand, which is one of the highest hotels in Europe. To get to the observation deck, visitors can ride a cable car from the town of Maso Corto to the Glacier Hotel Grawand. From there, Ötzi Peak is just a 10-minute walk. The creators of the observation deck said that their goal in building it was to give visitors a sense of freedom and being one with the mountains. They explained that the rugged views and windy weather let visitors experience nature at its fullest.
Designed to improve the view of the exterior of the International Space Station, the cupola was added to Tranquility Node 3 in 2010.

Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com NYC REVIEWING CHRYSLER BUILDING OBSERVATION DECK PLANS The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission is reviewing plans to build a new observation deck on the upper floors of the iconic Chrysler Building, New York YIMBY reports. Aby Rosen, cofounder of RFR Holding and part-owner of the building, has said the new deck is just part of plans to reinvigorate the landmark. Other phases would include new restaurants, a food hall and retail spaces. The deck, designed by Gensler, would be built on the 61st floor, where terraces currently exist on the north and south sides of the building. Modifications include the replacement of doors with new, power-operated entryways with wider frames to accommodate wheelchairs. A wall of 13 glass panels spanning 51 ft. and standing 7 ft. tall, would be placed at the edge of the terraces. Double-hung windows on the 61st and 62nd floors would be replaced with hinged windows, but the existing exterior trim would not be altered. With a trapezoidal design by Kohn Pedersen Fox that tilts toward the Hudson River, the 101-story 30 Hudson Yards is part of Related/Oxford Properties Group’s 28-acre Hudson Yards megadevelopment. With adult ticket prices starting at US$38, the observation deck is surrounded by 3,000 ft2 of glass formed into 79 panels that lean out over the city, providing 360˚ views. In the center of the deck is a triangular glass section where those not averse to heights may stand to "watch the cars moving below like ants.” 30 Hudson Yards is served by an Otis vertical-transportation system that includes 54 SkyRise® elevators. Among these is a double-deck lift that carries visitors to Edge in approximately 52 s. Mark Ostermann of Miles to Memories (and co-host of the Miles to Memories podcast) joins the Observation Deck for a wide ranging, tangent filled discussion about using Avianca and British Airways miles, whether AA web specials might end up being a bad thing, and much more.
This week Caitlin, Rachel, and Emmy discuss The Two Towers: Book Four, Chapter Seven, The Stairs of Cirith Ungol Characters: Frodo – Our hero Sam – Our hero wouldn’t have got far without him Smeagollum – the hero of his own story The Witch-King of Angmar, the Lord of the Nazgul, the Black Captain – […]
Our adventurers surge forth, the blood of Kings thick in the air as Kobold society erupts into a chaotic power-vacuum all around; what better time to infiltrate a keep than as the crown tumbles from bloody brow, the sound echoing off the bloated egos of the ambitious, conniving false-dragons? But the day is far from won. Join the Journeyman Questers as they climb the treacherous wooden veins of High Canopy, up, up, through checkpoints of reptilian sentries as they reach with sweat-soaked gauntlet toward the illumination - and revelations - that might await them at the very cloud-bursting peak. Be warned, traveller; scaled sentinels are the least of your worries in this defiled sanctuary, and the eyes which regard your ascent from high atop this magnificent column of power are shrouded in deceit and blackest cunning. Will our Questers crack the sky and view the world from atop this highest of peaks? Will they meet friend amongst foe as they strive to finally rid High Canopy of its illegitimate monarch? Will they finally deduce the source of the woodland corruption which threatens the lives of all who feed and slake their thirst upon the bounty of the forest? Only one thing remains certain now… It’s a very, very long way down.
Dave Evins calls in with a sports report and Lago talks with Blake and Sean Strawbridge about a desalinization plant, dredging Harbor Island and more. Also, County Judge Barbara Canales calls the KKTX hotline to discuss plans for a new observation deck on Horace Caldwell Pier.

The second lesson, “Warning Shots”, takes a look at the recent increase in vaccine-preventable illnesses and why clinicians need to dust off their understanding of these potentially dangerous diseases and be prepared to treat patients who present with them. They also discuss the LLSA review article, the Critical EKG, and much more. If you are interested in a complimentary issue or would like to subscribe, please visit www.acep.org/cdem/products
In this episode, I give my best of 2018 list, state my 2019 resolutions, and ponder the usefulness of time zones. Here you go: My best of 2018 in travel: Best meal: Alinea, Chicago Bonus audio with me and Han in Patreon if I can ever figure out how to edit this new Cast service. Anyway, I wrote about Alinea on the blog. Three-star Micheline rated restaurant. About $300 per person not including drinks. A true dining experience. Best drink: Bad Luck Bar, Detroit The best thing that can happen to you in a Detroit back alley. A speakeasy with limited seating but competent mixologists. Drinks are pricey, but value is what you get. Best resort: El Dorado Casitas Royale, Riviera Maya Stunning resort on a long stretch of beach. The food wasn’t the best we’ve had at a Cancun all-inclusive, but it was still very good. But the property itself was gorgeous. A great upper-middle tier resort in Cancun. Coolest city: New Orleans Best new destination: Louisville Most fun trip: Zorkfest 2018, Las Vegas Goals for 2019: Figure out how timezones work - The timezone should be the same for the entire country. Become a cool hat guy - Folically challenged, but Podcasters should be the pinnacle of cool. Athletes like Cam Newton post game- that’s what we should look like. More of a Mad Hatter feel, but I’m buying a cool hat this year. Change some cards around - Probably sign up for Amex Gold and cancel Platinum. The previous episode I mentioned a 25k sign on bonus for Gold, Joe from Observation Deck slid into my DMs to remind me that signing up using a friend’s referral link will get you a 50k sign on bonus. As I say all the time, if you’re looking for a new card, check to see if a friend or family member has a link you can use. Upgrade from Sapphire P to R. Not going to wait to two more years to get the sign on bonus. New schedule - Monday post, Tuesday (bi-weekly) show, Thursday post Saw your plans on social media. I want to help you get there. Some very cool destinations in your future. Let me know if you have questions or suggestions, I want to continue to put out content that speaks to you.

His appearances in "The MisMatch Game" are also discussed, specifically how he pitches his voice so high as Heidi Klum, how much he spent a 7-11 per show as Margot Kidder, and how he manages to answer all of his Zooey Deschanel answers while crafting. He dives into the Observation Deck, too, discussing his worst headshot, the job he was most excited to learn he got and the worst job he ever had where he got stiffed by N'Sync.
