With the Adventure Beckons resting just outside of town, Nicky, Elena, and Veile have traveled into town to complete two important tasks: Recovering a gem sold by mistake and reconnecting with Thelonious, member of the Luminaries, to find direction on where to go next. With new connections forged, they return to their ship (and its captain), and set off into the skies, where dark clouds gather on the horizon… This week on Perpetua: At the Threshold 02 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.061] Random Encounters - [PPRE] Sky Encounters Once you've got yourself the Adventure Beckons, you're able to travel from place to place on Perpetua's Sky Layer. And that means there's a whole new pool of Random Encounters. I've gathered some of the ones I've seen here, but I'm just getting started. Let me know any others you've hit and I'll try to find them and integrate them! Barnacle Cloud [REBC] You'd think this only triggers when you fly through clouds on the map, but it can happen anywhere. This is a mini-game, but bad enough performance can eventually make it a combat encounter. Elena is your best bet on this, because she can just toast them with fire magic. But if you use Nicky, you'll end up with some useful ingredients! Valte Wreckage [REVR] These you can actually spot on the ground and trigger on purpose, though what you can't determine is which "Valte Wreckage" encounter you'll load into. Most of the time, the wreckage is a fortress the Valte wrecked with their airship bombs. Sometimes, the wreckage is one of the big V-wing Valte ships itself, crashed in the ground. And in both cases there's a chance that you'll trigger an actual fight against Valte soldiers once you land and hop out of your ship!  Balloon Festival [REBF] Over friendly territory, you can sometimes load into another mini-game. Well, I guess it's a mini-game. It's a "Hot Air Balloon Festival," and you can customize your the Adventure Beckon's big blimp-like balloon. Then you can see a sort of wide angle shot of it floating around with the other, regular balloons. Why would you do that? Um… Just cause, I guess?  Valte Boarding [REVB] Some Valte board your ship and depending on when it is in the story (and who you've upset), there's a chance it turns hostile quick. And let me clear up some confusion: This is always a possibility. It's just that the closer to the Valte archipelago that you're flying, the more likely this one is. Kleye Glider [REKG] This is basically a duplicate of the Kleye fight you can get between Calstega Bay and Spillwater Peaks. I don't know how they're shooting clay pirates up high enough to hit the airship, but they're doing it. Worse: the more that get on there, the lower the Adventure Beckons gets, which makes it even easier for them to get more guys onboard!  Draconic Eagle [REGE] The way you load into combat and the unique music starts playing, you'd think this was some sort of  bonus challenge boss… But it seems like it's actually a puzzle or something? I managed to Scan it once, and it starts in Crisis, and within three turns, it always flees. Maybe there's an objective action you can do? For hours, unto days, unto weeks, the crew of the LIttle Snail delved the Castle Eschatonica with their new allies, the Source Rot Investigators from the Elevana League. In the heart of the void, these adventurers escaped the wrath of dragons, met a fallen god, recovered lost, living gems… and found not only a route out, but a whole new method of travel entirely. Jonathan named his new airship 'The Adventures Beckons,' and so, it does: But before it can be attended to in earnest—before he, Elena, Nicky, Veile, Flegbot, and their coterie of gems—can find and reach the White Lectern—they must first say goodbye to the little town of Spillaway Peaks, where Terapine ever-strive to prepare for the cycle's end. But when will that end be? Is it still centuries away, or might the many ill portents across Perpetua prove what some whisper: The clock runs short. The stars have faltered. An inverted eclipse. Cattle, obliterated. The return of dragons. Fire, cataclysmic. Invasion and War. Prayers go unanswered. A ruinous wind.  It is to this moment, this Perpetua-in-crisis, that the Little Snail and its roving staff returns to. Are the days of easy adventuring behind them? Is there no more blue in the sky now that they can traverse it? These are questions they dare not stop to answer. For it is time to prepare: To master this new vessel. L'agenzia nepalese per la gestione dei disastri fa sapere intanto che due operai sono stati estratti vivi da un tunnel collegato a una centrale idroelettrica sul fiume Trishuli, nove giorni dopo la colata di ghiaccio, rocce e fango che ha devastato un'intera valle ai piedi della catena montuosa dell'Himalaya. Finora i soccorritori hanno messo in salvo più di 12mila persone. Infine tappa ad Assisi, in collegamento con fra Emanuele Rimoli, dal 2022 direttore della Summer School "Percorsi Assisi", frate minore conventuale della comunità del Sacro Convento di Assisi, responsabile per l'area culturale, docente di Antropologia e Escatologia cristiane presso la Pontificia facoltà Teologica San Bonaventura-Seraphicum di Roma. Con lui, ci collegheremo per il primo giorno di "Percorsi Assisi 2026", la Summer School promossa dal Sacro convento di San Francesco in collaborazione con la Luiss e altre sei università italiane, dal 31 agosto al 6 settembre, in cui studenti universitari e giovani professionisti Under 35 provenienti da diversi ambiti disciplinari potranno vivere un'esperienza formativa che li proietti nel mondo del lavoro mantenendo sempre la persona al centro. In un contesto, quello di Assisi, che si conferma spazio di incontro tra persone, idee ed ambiti di studio differenti in cui il sapere si costruisce attraverso il dialogo e l'ascolto. Un'occasione per interrogarsi su come cambiano professioni, competenze e responsabilità, mettendo in contatto antropologia, economia, etica, tecnologia e intelligenza artificiale. They aren't especially hardy, but their Holy Salvo is built specifically to knock out sturdy physical characters, so don't underestimate them! Starter Tip: If you can do it, try to dispel their summoned platemail, it'll make fighting them toe to toe a lot easier. Most importantly: They can cover themselves in a magical ash that will boost their might and give them a Fire resistance. Once they do this, they sort of become solid all-arounders, so it's best to knock them out before they can do that. Starter Tip: Hit them with Dark or Ice damage to bring them down to melee range! Fares, Devout Chef Traits: Tricky, Inventive, Religious, Adaptable Type: Humanoid Saboteur Level: 10 Rank: Soldier Stats: DEX 8, INS 8, MIG 8, WLP 8 Attacks: Poison Vial Special Abilities: Bottled Vigour, Enervating Powder Elemental Affinities: RES: Earth, Fire, Light| VUL: Air, Dark, Ice In-Game Description: A chef of the Creed of Oracles. Master of the Kitchen and Pantry. This guy SUCKS! I don't even mean in combat, he's fine to fight. But as a character, I hate how he can draw you into conflict. There's basically only one way through his conversation tree that doesn't draw you either into combat with him immediately (with reinforcements coming soon after) or up into the Barracks where his friends are. Personally, I prefer to just knock him out ASAP and then sneak up to the hidden passage a few rooms away. Starter Tip: If he manages to poison you, don't forget to use your IP for an Antitote. Poisoned doesn't do damage over times like in some games, instead it saps BOTH your Might and Willpower, so whether it hits a bruiser or a mage, you're in trouble!  Ushala, Conduit Traits: Mysterious, Possessed, Sacrificial Type: Demon Mage Level: 10 Rank: Soldier Stats: DEX 10, INS 8, MIG 10, WLP 6 Attacks: Heaven's Light, Heaven's Glory, Heaven's Call Special Abilities: Flying, Pressure Gauge Elemental Affinities: IMM: Light | RES: Physical, Poison | VUL: Dark | Pressure Points: Dagger, Sword In-Game Description: A member of the Creed who temporary gives their body up to be possessed by the spirit of the holy Oracles.  So, as far as I know, there's two versions of Ushala you can fight. The above is the "standard" one, which is what happens when the Gem Scene goes the way it almost always does. But I've heard that if you manage to get the gem away from the Draconic Elf safely, then Ushala can become possessed (by who? My theory is Lucena) and then she gets a second, much harder phase. Which is saying something, because even this version of her is NO JOKE. Starter Tip: If you can, hit her with Shaken and Poisoned (the status condition, NOT the damage type). All three of her attacks are based on WLP, so it helps to knock that down as far as possible. Sarithe, Shieldmaiden [NMSRSH] Traits: Courageous, Devout, Charismatic, Armored  Type: Humanoid Sentinel Level: 10 Rank: Champion (4) Stats: DEX 8, INS 8, MIG 10, WLP 8 Attacks: Face Me!, Intercepting Javelin Special Abilities: Elemental Shield, Head up, Soldier!, Not this time!, Get behind me!, Strong Will, Honest Heart!, Pressure Gauge Elemental Affinities: IMM: | RES: Light, (Can gain Air, Earth, Fire, Ice) | VUL: Bolt, Dark, Poison |  Pressure Points: Flail, Firearm, Spear, Heavy Weapon In-Game Description: A knight in elementally-charged armor, wielding a tower shield and a javelin that hums with power. Despite being fully kitted out in heavy armor, Sarithe's abilities seem designed to make her a strong support character. She keeps her crew safe not only by taking hits for them, but also by healing them, stopping Opportunities (critical hits), and granting them multiple elemental resistances. Starter Tip: Because she has a pressure gauge (from the Armidirge games), she doesn't take extra damage from the elements she's weak against. Instead, if you can hit her six times with something she's vulnerable to (including her pressure point weapon types), she'll get staggered and she loses all of her actions for the rest of the round. Confrontations with Villains need not be catastrophic. Some hostile encounters, including those against enemy bosses, can be de-escalated through conversation or completed through clever use of Objective action. In fact,  you even got something wrong in your post. They're not "holy knights," which you would know if you had played Armidirge II: Marcellina's Tears (which came out in the US and UK as Armidirge 2: Holy Reign). About halfway through the game, right after the destruction of the East Cathedral, Beri calls Carcenia "one of those high-and-mighty holy knights of the Creed" and Carcenia says "Tsk. There haven't been holy knights for six hundred years. We are saints, revived!"    In any case, I had a pretty hard time with that fight until I just let Antistrophe take the lead. You can really build him perfectly for the one-on-one fights! FriendOfNei Agreed on Antistrophe there, though if you mean the second fight with the Creed, there's a lot of other options. The key (I think) is making sure to get the second party involved as soon as possible. Otherwise you can really get overwhelmed, especially by Ushala with all that multi-target light damage she can do. CarlsSr Wait. You thought I was talking about THAT fight? Hej Somna. Vad jag har längtat efter det här, att bara få sitta ner, öppna käften och tala med dig. Som att vi är gamla kompisar. Som att vi är du med varandra. Jag vill slå ett slag för ordet du. Vad är det egentligen med att vi kallar varandra vi?Jag var på restaurang häromdagen och en servitör frågade om vi hunnit titta på menyn. Jag var ju bara en av vi. Min vän tror att det beror på att man inte vågar säga ni, men inte heller vill säga du. Språket förändras, allting ändras, och kanske är vi bara det som blir kvar när ingen vågar välja.Jag är annars en trevlig kund när jag är på restaurang. Men häromdagen åt jag med en kompis som vågar visa när han är missnöjd, utan att för den sakens skull vara otrevlig mot personalen. Bara rak och ärlig. Jag själv blir omedelbart nervös. Jag har en annan vän som helst vill stå kvar i hallen en stund innan vi sätter oss, för att känna av om restaurangen har rätt vibe. Jag menar inte att man ska dalta med serveringspersonal, de är ju vana vid att folk ställer krav. Men jag skulle aldrig kunna sätta mig i en situation där jag riskerar att göra någon ledsen. Jag vill vara en sån gäst som glöms bort samma sekund jag går ut genom dörren.Efter middagen åkte jag Voi till bilen jag parkerat en bit utanför stan, rakt genom allt festfolk. Ett vemod smög sig på, över att jag inte svänger mina lurviga längre. Men jag kände också att det finns en ny mening i mitt liv nu, en som inte är avhängig lurvsvänget. Något större och djupare. Jag saknar lite det där med att ständigt träffa nya kontakter, hur man kunde hamna i samtal med någon i toakön. Det händer fortfarande, men jag är inte lika mottaglig längre, inte lika intresserad av att snacka strunt. Efteråt gick vi till en pub, och jag satt där med något alkoholfritt i en värld som i stort sett är byggd för alkoholens skull. Ändå kändes det förvånansvärt skönt.Jag började fundera på de där sakerna som alltid är med i den här podcasten, de som har uppstått av bara slump. Hej Somna. And for those on the other side of the vast castle, progress will come only with mastery of another world's language and ritual… This week on Perpetua: Escape the Rumbling Castle! 05 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.06] Spoiler-free Ten Hint Puzzle Guide  This new section is inspired by the community addendum that xXzelgadyskXx did for the Alteros masquerade puzzle. As always, I want to try to preserve some sense of mystery for people using this guide, so I'll give a series of ten progressively more direct hints, but won't ever give the direct solution. Springsong Mural Puzzle  The large mural depicting Sprinsong's legendary Heroes of the Spark is more than meets the eye. Just be careful, because if you make too many wrong moves, the ostrich-like automatons will activate and defend the secrets here! Hint 1 There's more to the mural than meets the eye. Look closely at the symbols AND the middle… Hint 2 Some of the floor tiles in this room look different than the others.  Hint 3 Remember how you dealt with the flowers in the previous room? 'Springsong' is more than just a name. Hint 4 Springsong and Perpetua have different, but corresponding elements. You have to map them one to one if you want to crack this puzzle. Don't look at the next clue if you want to figure this one out yourself! Hint 5 Symbol Springsong Element Perpetua Element 3 Curved Sideways S's Breeze Air Downward Zigzags Spark Bolt Crescent Night Dark Triangle Mountain Earth Open Square Hearth Fire Teardrop Spring Ice Open Circle Sun Light Quatrefoil (Clover) Nature Poison Hint 6 In the story hidden in the Flower Room, you can learn that while the evil sorcerer of Springsong used all the elements (except Spark/Bolt) to harm the world, he took complete control of Spring (Ice), Night (Dark), and Nature (Poison).  Hint 7 You'll have to use the magic of the remaining elements (Air, Bolt, Earth, Fire, Light) to complete this puzzle. Remember that in Springsong, you must perform in order to use magic! Hint 8 Don't just look at the Mural, use the "Study" action on the heroes depicted there. What can you learn from their names? Hint 9 By combining the elements together you can create different letter runes. Pay attention to the combinatory effect! By the way, the letter Z doesn't seem to exist in Springsong. RIGHT.!!!! xXZelgadyskXx So I got stuck on this one for a WHILE until we spent like five hours testing it out together on IRC. Here're my tips: Accuracy is more important than speed. If you miss more than three button presses, you're GOING to come into second, no matter how fast you go.  Pick your dominant hand (so if you're right handed, use the face buttons, if you're left handed, use the d-pad). Speed IS still important. If your party leader doesn't have at least 15 by the time one of the other characters has 18, you're just not going to win. Reset and start over. For me, whistling a song that's the right pace really helped. I did "Row Row Row Your Boat" but as if "Your Boat" never happens. Just: Row Row Row Row Row Row Row, et cetera, you know? This week on Perpetua: Escape the Rumbling Castle! 03 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.06] Celestial Echoes [CECH] Imago [CEIM] While I haven't played the Imago games myself, from what I've read, it's a game about the power and cost of the creative spirit. And also demons, maybe? In any case, the way that this Echo shows up in the Castle Eschatonica is the Agonies, a special set of NPCs you can acquire who can grant even non-spell casters the ability to cast a few key spells!  Melo (he/him) Traits: Relaxed, Friendly, Sleepy Status/Element: Slow/Air  Description: A living statue of a little knee high elephant man, smoking a pipe. Ability: Trumpet Toss  - 10 - Self - Instantaneous Melo wakes up and releases blasts of air from his trunk, sending you flying across the battlefield. You may immediately perform a free attack with a melee weapon you have equipped. This attack may target creatures that can only be targeted by ranged attacks. If you used a weapon belonging to the brawling or spear Category for this attack, it deals 5 extra damage. If you hit a flying target with this attack, you may force them to land immediately. Wan (he/him) Traits: Sickly, Curious, Hopeful Status/Element: Weak/Ice Description: A painting of a strange looking child in bed, under a blanket, covered in shadows. Ability: A Chill Air (attack) - 10 x T - Up to Three Targets - Instantaneous Wan coughs, and the temperature in the room drops low. The targets suffer【HR + 15】ice damage. Opportunity: Each target hit by this spell suffers Weak. Hezzi (they/them) Traits: Afraid, Tentative, Big Status/Element: (Shaken/Physical)  Description: A ghostly, one-eyed ogre who quietly plays their piano until someone approaches. Ability: Intimidating Presence (attack) - 5 x T - Up to Three Creatures - Instantaneous Hezzi shows themself in fully material form, strikes an aggressive pose, and roars, giving every target Shaken. Miss Mephitic (she/her)  Traits: Layered, Beautiful, Frightening Status/Element: (Poisoned/Poison) Description: A human-sized music box ballerina, from which vines, petals, and teeth emerge. Ability: Bloody Thorn (attack) - 20 - One Creature - Instantaneous Mephi's vines strike out at a target, doing 【HR + 15】poison damage and giving them the Poisoned status. Connie (she/they) Traits: Excitable, Mercurial, Confused Status/Element (Dazed/Bolt)  Description: A fuzzy television on a wheeled cart which continually changes channels, occasionally landing on young woman with frizzy, dirty blonde hair . Ability: Surprise Shock (attack) - 20 - One creature - Instantaneous Connie slams into your foe and electrifies them. The target suffers【HR + 25】bolt damage. Damage is doubled against a target who is Dazed Ira (he/him) Traits: Irritable, Small, Loyal Status/Element: Enraged / Fire Description: A ceramic pot with a little angry red devil cherub on it—and the impish being itself. As the northern edge of the Castle Eschatonica grows closer, the adventurers within begin to sense a change in the dungeon around them. While the Celestial Echoes that make up the hallways and rooms of the castle were once neatly separated, now it seems that the people and places from the various past Perpetuan worlds have begun to overlap and interact. In search of information, Brontë, Veile, Elena, and Caoimhe seek help from an otherworldly machine. In the depths of the Castle Eschatonica, the true beckonings called to the travelers of the Dragon Path. Led across the ether under divine shadow and holy light, to things that aren't, but which might yet be: New more peaceful lives. Freedom from obligation and duty. Different, more adventurous histories. A key to a door which itself beckons. The power to protect those they care for. Power for power's sake alone. With these behind them, the two groups re-emerge into the halls of the Castle. In the western wing, three figures push forward into the passageways of this transcendent fortress—Uncle Nicky, criminal turned chef; the terrapine Jonathan, inventor and—now—airship captain; and Antistrophe Landrace, the Ruinbringer, though he may not know it yet.  Meanwhile, to the east, an octet walks Eschatonica's twisting paths: Famed adventurer, and Jonathan's sister, Maebela; Veile Lyndelle, destined devotee of the Ennead; Elena Millefiori, Tesserae chanter and eager traveler; the youthful and curious Waylon of Spillaway Peaks; Renegade Hexcloak Caiomhe Wake; and finally, Brontë Adelvys, dissipated sixth scion of the First Line, along with his attendants, Efta and Zolfta Above them, watching with all nine eyes, is Gnova, once the God of Distant Color and Light, now the steward of this Castle. But they are not the only celestial being interested in Eschatonica. They saw Lucena's sunlight streamed across the ether towards their home. They watched as Caliginia's long shadow fell, finally, even here. Indeed, they dread how these gods now shake the diorama-like stability of Eschatonica, and how in doing so, they unknowingly have sent up a flare… Because she is coming, now. Indeed. Windborne Hawk Traits: Agile, Lightweight, Droning Type: Hunter Construct Level: 10 Rank: Soldier Stats: DEX 10, INS 8, MIG 6, WLP 8  Attacks: Flechette Burst Special Abilities: Occult Dampener, Annoying Buzz, Flying Elemental Affinities: IMM: Poison | RES: Wind, Dark, Earth | VUL: Bolt, Ice, Light In-Game Description: A beautiful bird automaton that floats through the power of a dark wind. Despite being level 10 soldiers, these are one of the most dangerous enemies in the Castle Eschatonica. They are custom made to crush your casters (which according to DoomTreeAnne's lore document really lines up with their anti-Oracle purpose in Armidirge). Their Flechette Burst can tear through your party (especially characters without martial armor!!) and their Occult Dampener turn them into spell-devouring TANKS.   Starter Tip: Take. These. Down. Quick. Once their Dampener is up, they're that much harder to deal with. Windborne Turret Traits: Automatic, Threat-Finding, Defensive, Deployed Type: Hunter Construct Level: 10 Rank: Soldier Stats: DEX 8, INS 10, MIG 8, WLP 6  Attacks: Repeating Fire Special Abilities: None Elemental Affinities: IMM: Poison | RES: Wind, Dark, Earth | VUL: Bolt, Light In-Game Description: A hovering, bronze-clad weapon that scans for (and eliminates) targets Extremely straightforward enemies. They float in place (but AREN'T Flying enemies) and take a really strong shot at you every other turn (and it doesn't seem like they do much in the way of supporting the rest of their side).  Exploit that to keep their total attack Starter Tip: Focus them down, one at a time. Meanwhile, in the High Masque, tensions grow as the newest members of House Deadwind continue to make new connections among rival clans of Alteros. This week on Perpetua: The Castle Eschatonica 06 Perpetua Guide [Community Addendum Part 04] I'm Alukard83, and I thought it would be nice to get together a section listing all of the Villains we've encountered at this point. Remember: This isn't ever enemy or even every badguy, it's every Villain. That's a specific thing in Perpetua: It's someone who has their own pool of special points they can use (Ultima points) and it's someone who gives the party Fabula points when they show up. So far, this is them, in order of appearance. Draconic Elf Woman (Name Unknown) Unlike most Villains (who seem to be campaign-specific), this lady can pop up in both the eastern and western scenarios really early on, though players might not realize it at first.  The Little Snail crew can bump into her at the 'top' of the Dragon Tower, where you can get a close up on her scales and talons. And then team ABC can see a reflection of her in Burzin, where her Elven qualities are really played up.   It's the same basic character model, but it seems like maybe the textures were different, or she had some sort of special effect in the reflection? I wonder why different parts of her were emphasized in those different places? Genuine Sincere You don't actually see him second, but you do see his handiwork. He tries to assassinate Vinnor Jekk, Veile's mentor and member of the Luminaries. Genuine is an old crimeworld friend of Nicky, and is now part of the Night's Own, a group loyal to Caliginia.  Eventually, the party has to fight him if they want to escape from Calstega Bay. He escapes that fight when it breaks bad for him, but his location after that remains unknown. Caliginia, Fated Darkness Speaking of the Night's Own… This Goddess of Darkness first shows up at the end of the first big story arc in the Little Snail campaign and kidnaps Vinnor Jekk. It's not exactly clear what her motives are (or what her connection to Veile is), but given her actions it's pretty clear she's trying to stop Veile from reaching the White Lectern ritually halting the cycle. Aisling Revanj She's a hexcloak with a specialization in Fire. She showed up at the very end of the Burzin boss fight and prevents Lady Teribald from revealing the identity of the mysterious Elf that visited the town. Are the two of them connected? Where do the rest of the Hexcloaks fit in here? Atlas We don't know much about this ancient architect. Elena found evidence of him tied to Rilspur and the rest of the Passikan megadungeons. We learn that the Passikans themselves never existed in Perpetua, but somehow their ruins do. And that was Atlas' doing. Weird. He says they're going "to return," but what does that even mean? Marshal Opal You first meet the Marshal at the cooking competition in Calstega Bay, but eventually come to learn that this military commander of the Valte is part of Nights Own later on in the main story. What we know about her is that where Commodore Onyx is more focused on the Valte sky armada, Opal leads the ground troops (and specifically the ones searching for clues and relics related to the Perpetuan cycle). Interesting!  And hey, what the hell is up with the Night's Own anyway (or as I like to call it "The Fell Organization, since that's what Elena calls it in dialog, and I think she rocks).  Thereus Aegir Leader of the Hexcloaks, clearly the biggest A-Hole in the whole game so far. You first directly encounter him in Cenn, City of Iron Chains. Personally, I can't stand people like this, who act all high and mighty and who try to manipulate and provoke you into either fighting them or fighting for them. I cannot wait to kick this guy's butt, big time. Elom The big angry dragon mole laying siege to Cenn.  So like, we all see it right? This is just "Mole" backwards. Is that how all the dragons work? D.G. Flay Aegier is the biggest a-hole, but this weird pied piper guy might be the evilest villain so far. At least, that's how he feels. He's slimy and creepy and all those bugs he's associated with? NO thanks. Reminds me of the villain from the movie with the weird aliens.
