Ike, Spike and Fritz open up the show talking Sixers and if it is time to open up your heart one more time for Joel Embiid as he comes into the year healthy.
Les, Kurt, and Jason back and Les is bursting with enthusiasm! And why wouldn't he be when he finds out Kurt is leaning into his brand as a cake guy (who still needs to try Plops, according to Jason). Kurt's eventual one man murder mystery show definitely needs to include death by cake pop. Or perhaps the show could involve bruises, blows to the body, and a gun to the temple (all new details learned this week in the ever-evolving years-old fight between Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian)! Then, the guys head to the altar one more time for Hallmark's The Groomsmen Last Dance (because they may not be able to have any more dances on that oily floor caused by a leaky can. The rules are simple: If you have a leaky can, you need to get remote work…. and they just happen to be hiring at David Copperfield's Lamb Chop Museum. Today we feature two black female vocalists, born 66 years apart, both renown for their independent spirit, singing songs about trying to make love work - despite clear signs to the contrary. As artists, they've both shunned the spotlight, maintaining the mystery of their magic: Sippie Wallace quit show business for 30 years, preferring to express herself through her church organ, and LGBTQ icon Tracy Chapman staunchly separates her private life from her public one. Sippie returned to the spotlight by way of the blues festivals of the 60s, and was celebrated and covered by Bonnie Raitt, among others, and although Tracy appears regularly to perform for political causes she champions, only recently did she resurface in a big way in the mind the general public, by way of an emotional re-appearance at the 2023 Grammy's to perform her song “Fast Car” in a duet with Luke Combs, who made it a Country hit almost 40 years after its original release. SIPPIE WALLACEOn this 1926 Okeh recording of “Special Delivery Blues”, we first hear the whistle of the approaching mail train, then the crescendoing piano rolls building up suspense musically. This wave of energy is capped by the immortal cornet of Louis Armstrong and the yearning phrases of Sippie Wallace begging for news of her man's return. She wishes and hopes that the guy who left her will come back soon, but it doesn't look good. Despite this, Sippie makes it clear she'll keep up the vigil as long as it takes.“The Texas Nightingale” built up her reputation playing tent shows, and releasing a spate of recordings that put her up there with Ma Rainy and Bessie Smith, but she decided to chuck it all and dedicate her musical talents to the Church, where she played organ for 30 plus years. During the folk/blues revival of the mid-1960s, she was rediscovered and enjoyed immense appreciation for another 20 years, until her death at age 88. TRACY CHAPMANI love GIVE ME ONE REASON because it's so simple and direct. Tracy is drawing a line: “I'm telling you that I love you, but you have to reciprocate, or I'm gone”. It's clearly stated without equivocation, but as the verses add up, you can just picture her, standing in the doorframe, giving her object of desire just one more chance, then another, then another…. Drawing one line, then moving it back a bit. She doesn't want to go, but it looks like she's going to have to.Tracy Chapman catapulted out of the Boston coffeehouse scene in 1986, 25 years after Joan Baez had accomplished the same feat, and her first single, “Fast Car,” a song which alluded to economic inequality, was ubiquitous - a definite anomaly during the MTV era, which shows that the public can respond to bare-boned honesty, (without bells and whistles), when they hear it. And, she has maintained her integrity as a socially conscious artist throughout the intervening decades.
Ep. 916 - It's a big week around the NFL. It's the final week to make evaluations. And for the Arizona Cardinals, the final evaluation happens this weekend or more specifically, Saturday night at State Farm Stadium. The preseason finale sees the Cardinals host the Las Vegas Raiders. Craig Grialou and Zach Gershman look ahead to the game and discuss who they want to see play. (FYI, as of Wednesday, head coach Jonathan Gannon hadn't said if the staters will play; Craig and Zach are assuming they won't.) The guys put the spotlight on several different position rooms, starting with cornerback. Also, there are a handful of undrafted rookies who have played well throughout training camp and the preseason. Can they do it one more time?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After the demise of the mighty Ramones there was a huge hole left in the fun-punk sub-genre. However, youngest member CJ (this fans' second fave Ramones dude (after Johnny)) stepped up and provided starving punk rockers with some great material that would have easily fit on latter era Ramones albums. Jesus walks through the garden of our lives and he reaches in to see if there is fruit. Sometimes we advertise that we are fruit bearing believers but when the Lord looks for it, He might not find anything. God prunes us because that is a part of Him extending His grace towards us. God is constantly trying to remind us of how far we have come, especially if we've allowed life to make us stingy with our praise and generosity! God didn't need Mary's worship just like He doesn't need one more voice to fill the choir of heaven, but He honored Mary because she understood what time it was and who it was that she was honoring. If everything in this life belongs to God, there is absolutely nothing that did not come from the generosity of God including the breath in our lungs. With this resource all He is asking is that we take care of His bride and we as believers will take care of what he loves the most for the following reasons: 1) How much we've been loved will determine how much we love. 2) It's not that we don't have a seed to sow, it's that most of us are sowing it in the wrong place. 3) God doesn't want our money, He is only after our hearts!Stewardship is all a test and God is looking for people that are willing to trust him with taking care of their lives. If we sow our seed in the right soil it produces a tree that produces fruit that continue to carry seeds. When we sow something it gives it the potential to bear fruit that will continue to bless us in the future. So if we want more seed in our lives, let's begin to sow what we have into God and all that He loves. Our God did not hold back when He gave all of heaven to save us so in return, let's become a group of people that give him everything!
