In this brilliant episode Ariana chats to the indomitable reality star, disability rights activist and BBC documentary maker Paddy Smyth. We talk about Paddys challenge throughout life, finding love and acceptance for himself as a gay disabled man living with cerebral palsy. Overcoming adversity and grief through the loss of his parents, his desire to be famous, his foray into reality tv as a contestant on First Dates Ireland in 2017 before going onto win Channel 4's 'The Circle' in the UK in 2019. Paddy recently released an incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking BBC documentary called 'Should I be fixed' about medical advancements for disabled people and the identity that is often wrapped up in their disability, begging the question 'should you fix your disability if you could?'. Paddy proves that being disabled can be empowering and encourages listeners to go out and live your dreams on your own terms. #disability #disabilityrights #diversityandinclusion#gayanddisabled#realitystar#empowering #loveyourself#lovewhatyoudo. S4 Ep27, Tuesday July 12 | Orlaith Condon and Paddy Smyth. Proudly sponsored by NOW.
We decided to mark our release day by sending out three episodes into the world! Our second guest this week is Paddy Smyth, an activist, presenter and 2019 champion of the Channel 4 reality TV series The Circle. Not only that, but he is also the host of Chancers Podcast, also available on the Go Loud app and wherever you get your podcasts, along with his co-presenter Anna Clifford - a writer and comedian. Paddy is funny, wise and warm and we hope you love his story.
Holly chats with presenter, activist and winner of ‘The Circle' Paddy Smyth. The pair share funny stories from knowing each other since their teenage years and recall how different life was before social media. Paddy chats about the reality of winning a reality show and covers topics like dating, heartbreak and living with a disability. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
By the time she reached her fifties, author and poet Catherine Simpson and her body had gone through a lot together – from period pain, an abortion, early menopause, birthing two daughters to shaming and harassment. When a cancer diagnosis entered the mix, Catherine began to reflect on her body and all its trials and tribulations which she documents in her book One Body. Human Collective is a brand of what's become known as athleisure – the comfortable clothes we embraced through the lockdowns which are happily now a fashion main stay. The brand promises to spread a message of equality and social inclusion. Clare is joined by it's founder Conor Buckley and Paddy Smyth who has long been an advocate for people with disabilities to be reflected in fashion campaigns and beyond And Barnardos recently launched their Big Active campaign encouraging children in classrooms throughout the country to think about their mind, body and soul. Clare is joined by Barnardos Wellbeing expert Jenny Murphy
Oh I so loved this conversation, even though I discovered in researching for this interview that I lived 10 minutes away from my next guest for most of our childhoods and teenage years and we went to the same college I only know of Paddy Smyth from what I have seen of him on TV. His biggest gig to date was winning Channel 4's The Circle, based around catfishing and social media the reality show saw him win 70 thousand pounds and a legion of fans but also brought with it a lot of criticism that Paddy had used cerebal palsy to win. Today we talk about how he dealt with this, how it's not the first time he's had to dig deep and push back against bullies and why he's determined to show that having a disability is not something you should have to hide and ultimately you have the same hopes and wishes as anyone else. Why shouldn't we see someone in a disability in a beauty ad or having fun at a festival advertising a beer - Paddy has set himself these goals and smashed these barriers.Prepare to fall in love with him, I did. Welcome to Episode 7 of the podcast. I had a great chat with UK reality TV superstar Paddy Smyth. Paddy won The Circle S. 2 and expected his career to really take off, but it didn't. Not to worry (he may have worried a little) he's seen worse, he's dealt with worse and when the chips were down, Paddy did what he always does...he pushed through and came out the other side, just how his arrival into this world went down. In the first episode of the actual decade, I talked to disabled activist and self-titled "reality TV whore" Paddy Smyth, who, in his usual sound way, made me forget there were microphones and chat as though we were pals catching up. His openness and honesty about life and love is refreshing. There's a further deep dive into Paddy's love life on my Patreon page (www.patreon.com/aislingmkeenan) should you want to hear more.

The UK general election campaign is, among other things, a battle for what kind of Brexit will ultimately happen. Our Europe editor Patrick Smyth sets out five possible election outcomes and the sort of Brexit the EU expects from each, from No Deal to a new deal - or no Brexit at all. But let's not get ahead of ourselves: the campaign is just beginning. To understand the dynamics and tactics at play in these early stages we talk first to Patrick Maguire, a political correspondent with New Statesman magazine.
This week we have Bláithín de Burca as a guest host and we discussed her fringe show, Paddy Smyth on The Circle, what to decide when having kids we borrow a queer ear from the Telegraph and have an event round up. The House of Commons is set for a showdown as rebel Tory MPs seek to introduce legislation today, blocking a no-deal exit from EU. Prime minister Boris Johnson held a last-ditch meeting with potential rebels within his party this morning, including former cabinet ministers, but is reported to have failed in his bid to win them over. Denis Staunton is on the line from London to explain how things might play out this evening and whether a general election is likely to be called. Johnson, meanwhile, has yet to provide the EU with alternatives to the Irish backstop as outlined in the Withdrawal Agreement. Europe editor Paddy Smyth reports on how the goings on at Westminster are being viewed in Brussels. Is there any truth to Johnson's claim that negotiations are bearing fruit?
On this week's episode of The Gosscast, Goss Boss Ali Ryan sits down with social media star turned presenter Paddy Smyth. In this in depth chat Paddy opens up about living with a disability, finding love and his new RTE show The Fitting Room.
When historians reflect on Donald Trump's presidency, will yesterday's press conference alongside Vladimir Putin in Helsinki be seen as one of its defining moments?Trump sided with Putin over his own intelligence agencies, saying he saw no reason not to believe the Russian president when he said they did not try to fix the 2016 election. The performance has been dubbed embarrassing, disgraceful and treasonous, drawing criticism from both the left and right, with even Fox News saying it was not a good outing for the president. Analysing what it means for the Trump presidency, the United States and the wider world, today's guests are Suzanne Lynch and Paddy Smyth.
He may not have found love on First Dates Ireland recently, but Paddy Smyth did win the hearts of the nation. The 28-year-old trended on Twitter during, and after, the show and has since begun presenting a slot on TV3’s 6 o’clock show. Paddy was already a star before all this though, having amassed a huge Snapchat following documenting his day-to-day life living with Cerebral Palsy with his now signature candour and humour. On this podcast, Paddy told Róisín Ingle about his 'almost famous' moment, making it down to the last twenty for Big Brother during its heyday on Channel 4. He also spoke about dating with a disability, why it's important to highlight the fun aspects of being disabled, and why no gay teenager should ever come out to their parents the way he did.
