In this week's podcast, we'll explore the intriguing parallels between the Torah portion of Noah and Dave Eggers' novel, The Circle. Both narratives grapple with themes of isolation and the consequences of humanity's choices. In the story of Noah, we witness a world consumed by corruption, leading to divine intervention and a fresh start, albeit at a steep cost. Similarly, The Circle presents a society ensnared by the allure of technology and constant connectivity, where the pursuit of transparency clashes with individual privacy and freedom. As we delve into these texts, we'll reflect on how both highlight the delicate balance between community and isolation, urging us to consider the implications of our actions in shaping the future.

Podcast host Neal Pollack revisits his roots this week as he interviews his old friend Arthur Bradford, the director of 'To Be Destroyed', a new short documentary about the efforts of the school district of Rapid City, South Dakota, to ban a bunch of books, including the novel 'The Circle' by Dave Eggers. If you mess with Dave Eggers, you'd best not miss. And they did miss. Arthur was once a writer but is now a documentary filmmaker. He and Eggers had been talking about doing a documentary, but this was the obvious topic. Eggers went to South Dakota and met with students, and Arthur accompanied him. A crusade against injustice ensued. Neal and Arthur talk about the film and the issues at hand, and also about Neal's "psychological issues" surrounding his former colleague and mentor Eggers. A revealing conversation ensues about the realities of book banning and why Neal wants a camera crew to "follow me to Trader Joe's."A more conventional but still insightful segment follows. Contributor Greg Ford joins Neal to talk about the strange new adaptation of Giovanni Boccaccio's 'The Decameron', now airing on Netflix. They both enjoyed the performance of main character Tanya Reynolds but also found the adaptation to be overly long and needlessly silly. Greg, who has actually read 'The Decameron,' also notes that the show isn't nearly as bawdy as the book itself, which was controversial in its time for its overtly sexual and anti-clerical content, two issues that are not a problem today.Enjoy the show!

It is the 275th episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast! I am excited to welcome Ed Eason to the podcast to celebrate this milestone! Ed made his Reality TV debut on the debut season of Netflix's The Circle US. He entered late in the game and was joined by his mother, Tammy. Despite arriving in episode eight, the duo were blocked and exited the show on episode 11. He also became a trailblazer when he became the first cast member of The Circle US to crossover to MTV's long-running Reality TV competition series The Challenge. Ed Eason entered The Challenge: Spies, Lies, and Allies in the second episode, where he was partnered with fellow rookie Emy Alupei. The duo found themselves in hot water after they lost the “Heli Heist” mission. However, Ed and Emy faced Kelz Dyke and Love Island Germany champion Tracy Candela in the Flipping Agents elimination, where they won and were reassigned partners. Ed picked veteran Tori Deal, and they won the Sea Cave Recon challenge. They remained safe until episode eight. In episode nine, two-time fan-favorite Challenge champion Ashley “Millionaire” Mitchell teamed up with Ed in the “Bombshell Battle” mission. In episode 10, the duo joined forces with Amanda Garcia, CT Tamburello, Nelson Thomas, and Bettina Buchannan to form Sapphire Cell. The group lost the first two missions, and Ed found himself in the elimination ring, where he lost to fan-favorite Kyle Christie in the iconic Pole Wrestle game. Two years later, Ed Eason returned to The Challenge as a part of their 39th season: Battle for a New Champion, where he squared off against other contenders hoping to become the show's latest winner. Ed partnered with Olivia Kaiser, Colleen Schneider, and various teams throughout that season to get through the game. He won three daily challenges before he left the show in Episode 16. On the 275th episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Ed Eason spoke about his experiences on The Circle US and The Challenge and building his social media audience. In this brilliant episode Ariana chats to the indomitable reality star, disability rights activist and BBC documentary maker Paddy Smyth. We talk about Paddys challenge throughout life, finding love and acceptance for himself as a gay disabled man living with cerebral palsy. Overcoming adversity and grief through the loss of his parents, his desire to be famous, his foray into reality tv as a contestant on First Dates Ireland in 2017 before going onto win Channel 4's 'The Circle' in the UK in 2019. Paddy recently released an incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking BBC documentary called 'Should I be fixed' about medical advancements for disabled people and the identity that is often wrapped up in their disability, begging the question 'should you fix your disability if you could?'.
