Oh my god, we're back again. It's been a minute - huge life changes and all. But we're determined to get behind the mics more in the coming months. This week, a new bonus series begins: Midnight Myth Meditations. These shorter, looser episodes will begin with a question. Something we want to meditate on with relation to our core subjects: history, mythology, philosophy, and pop culture. We'll look at the question from all angles, with kindness and curiosity. This week, we're meditating on the use of the words “myth” and “mythology” to describe untruths, superstition, and world building/lore. Are we using these terms right? What can they teach us about language and critical response? — Podvoices.help Please consider donating to the National Network of Abortion Funds - or to a fund in your community. Fellow travelers on the path of the Beam, Derek and Steve are back after a very very very long break having finally finished the Stephen King masterpiece, The Stand. As one of the King's books closest to The Dark Tower, say thank ya, The Stand offers a wealth of references, intertextual links to other King works, and a treasure trove of thoughts, reflections, and analysis. Derek and Steve pick up after part one, Rome Falls, and talk about the book after the super flu all but wipes out the human race. Derek and Steve offer their thoughts on this enigmatic tome, wondering where to place it within the body of King's broader works. Does it live up to its reputation as King's best novel? Lastly, Derek and Steve ask and attempt to answer what this book is really all about, with surprising results. If Captain Trips has you down, don't worry, as the Wheel of Ka keeps turning and the Beam's live on, say true? Say thank ya, big big. Featuring yet another flamboyant abortionist, sideshow fetuses, Mother with a capital M, eugenic suspicions, and plenty more population panics. We'll see how the battle over family planning took very different forms from 1900 up to when Roe vs. Wade made abortion federally legal. We'll see how conversations around the history of abortion and birth control continue to leave out the most important voices, the voices of those who can get pregnant, instead promoting racial population fantasies and fears. #SatanicSummer sends you out as sheep among the wolves, to the heart of Babylon! This week, we're discussing the sinful delight that is 1997's Devil's Advocate. We'll talk about the religious origin of Satan and theological efforts to explain free will (it's a bitch!) Then, we'll dive deep into Devil's Advocate's greatest literary origins: Faust and Paradise Lost. At once a legal thriller, a gothic horror, and a domestic epic, Devil's Advocate plays in murky moral waters that are a treasure trove of philosophy, history, and mythology. — Podvoices.help Please consider donating to the National Network of Abortion Funds - or to a fund in your community. How many podcasts have you been a guest for? As we discuss in today's episodes, being a guest on other podcasts is one of the highest returns on investments of time you can have. A lot goes into being a good guest, message, sound quality, and the right type of podcast. It can be overwhelming all by itself, just podcasting add guesting on top of that, but as Mathew helps us see there is a process, it's a lot easier than we think once we get started. But as most things seem really difficult in the beginning once we get started, that first jump is always much shorter than it looks. Topics: · What do we need to know with regards to live streaming a podcast (1:08) · Picking what social platforms you will live stream on (3:05) · How do you give a clear call to action when you are streaming on multiple platforms (5:36) · Understanding your funnel (7:51) · Guesting on other podcasts (11:16) · Exciting results from collaborating with other podcasts (12:27) · Guesting is free advertising that doesn't expire (18:47) · The importance of having a website before you start (20:43) · What to know before pitching yourself to other podcasts (23:14) · Launching a book? This week we are spotlighting Don't Ban Equality, a campaign for companies to take a stand against abortion restrictions. The "Don't Ban Equality" statement underscores the impact of abortion bans on the workforce, specifically the alarming implementation of state restrictions and the looming impact U.S. Supreme Court decisions will have across millions of workers in dozens of states. To learn more about navigating a world Post- Roe, we recommend listening to the new season of https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ordinary-equality/id1492330633 (Ordinary Equality) Podcast. Hosts Kate Kelly and Jamia Wilson ask: what now? What does resisting bans and seeking care look like in a world without federal protection of abortion access? How can we build community and support the most vulnerable? And, how are abortion providers in states where abortion was already severely restricted working around the system? Follow and Visit https://dontbanequality.com/ (https://dontbanequality.com/) to support. This is a https://my.captivate.fm/growthnetworkpodcasts.com (Growth Network Podcasts) production. Mentioned in this episode: PodVoices.help In partnership with podvoices.help we encourage listeners to visit www.choice.crd.co for resources on safe abortion access.

Special Announcement Before I get to the episode, we/I want to take a moment to address the June 24th Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe versus Wade. This decision stripped away the legal right to have a safe and legal abortion. Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health and independence of all Americans. This decision could also lead to the loss of other rights. To learn more about what you can do to help, go to podvoices.help. In this episode, I am reviewing a guilty pleasure and that podcast is Everything Is Alive. When Roe vs Wade was overturned, did you wonder how you could help? "Every podcaster has a voice" is the common language in the industry, but what happens when the voices combine to advocate for change? That is precisely what Arielle did with the recent Roe vs. Wade overturned issue. She posted a call to action on Twitter which exploded into people rallying around the effort and offering to play a consistent host read ad at the beginning of their episodes. It's a simple but powerful way where we collectively can influence a topic. But, as Arielle shares, this is just the beginning, and future causes will be added as the idea expands. Key Topics: · What is the call to action you have asked podcasters to do (3:33) · What were the expectations going into this idea (9:18) · What pushback from the effort has there been since it started (13:05) · How could others jump on board and help support other efforts (16:27) · What does the future look like for Podcast activism (19:06) · If a podcaster wants to support a future endeavor, where is the best place to connect (23:03) https://docs.google.com/document/d/%201JsnhYIIo6dnHSx_XKVM6jQGMPGc81uzs9yBXAQQFtl0/%20edit#heading=h.tynmc0hb14se (Host Read Ads Document) https://docs.google.com/document/d/159pEWaavC5iDpP5FESH4SRUAcgddm_gO2rc-FHk4TY4/edit (Ad Campaign Planning Document) https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/28/23186432/abortion-roe-scotus-howard-stern-my-favorite-murder-podcast (Article on The Verge.com) https://twitter.com/arithisandthat/status/1540360240591319040 (Tweet that started the movement) https://www.podvoices.help/contact (Podvoices Contact Page) Website link: (https://www.podvoices.help/ (https://www.podvoices.help/)) Social Links https://www.linkedin.com/in/arielle-nissenblatt-90348356/ (Community Manager at Squadcast) https://www.earbudspodcastcollective.org/ (Founder of Ear Buds Collective) https://twitter.com/%20%20soundsprofnews (CO-Host of the Sounds Profitable News Podcast) https://www.getrevue.co/%20%20profile/ariellenissenblatt?via=twitter-profile (This and That With Arielle Nissenblatt Newsletter) Mentioned in this episode: In Support of Podvoices.help June 2022 Campaign ****The pre-roll you heard is in support of https://www.podvoices.help/. #SatanicSummer continues with our roundup and discussion of Stranger Things Season 4. In this season, Netflix's runaway hit introduced a monstrous new villain and lovable new side characters, and found interesting ways to reshape their formula. Meanwhile, it takes inspiration from the very real, very disturbing moral panic, known as the Satanic Panic, of 1980s America. We discuss the complexities of American social and political change that led to mass persecution of outsiders, as well as the psychiatric “innovation” that laid the groundwork for it. Additionally, we'll discuss the Dungeons & Dragons villain Vecna, who lends his name to this series' Big Bad. Who is Vecna the Archlich? Where did he come from? Is he anything more than a namesake for the Stranger Things character? WARNING: Major spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4! Mild content warning for some of the Satanic Panic details discussed. — Podvoices.help Please consider donating to the National Network of Abortion Funds - or to a fund in your community. This week we are spotlighting an amazing organization working to close the health equity gap. HERhealthEQ is creating health equity in developing communities around the world by providing the resources that women need to detect, prevent, and treat the top healthcare issues affecting women. They focus on maternal health, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease – medical issues that are easily diagnosed and treatable with access to the right equipment. Episode “Dos” For you legal Mexicans who have ‘seen the light,' and who have… against your own self-interests and preservation, courageously opted to turn the political tides RED, and flip the house in November!! Midge will lament the fact that we are all losing our religion, she will interpret some of Marjorie Taylor Greene's crazy, she will share the wisdom and humor of Fox News, and she will make a case that story-time for children is destructive and must be abolished. On this episode, Midge celebrates (and we poke) her fellow deplorables: Jesse Watters, Greg Gutfeld and Judge Jeannine, the ENTIRE FIVE ON FOX, Scott Baio, Kid Rock, Kevin Sorbo, Geraldo-RINO-Rivera, Donald J. Trump, Amy Comey Barret, Ginni Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh, Liberty University and most deplorable of them all, Tucker Carlson! Engineering and Sound Design by the infinitely talented @DJBrianVasquez The women's right to choose is sacrosanct. SCOTUS is on the wrong side of history with this decision. Hi Bewitches – Before Amy and I get to the episode, we want to take a moment to address the June 24th, 2022 Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe versus Wade. This decision stripped away the right to have a safe and legal abortion. Everyone should have the freedom to decide what's best for themselves and their families, including when it comes to ending a pregnancy. This decision has dire consequences for individual health and safety, and could have harsh repercussions for other landmark decisions. Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health and independence of all Americans. Learn more by visiting podvoices.help. If you're able to support others, please consider donating to Planned Parenthood. Amy and I (and especially Dr. E - OBGYN) encourage you to speak up, take care, and spread the word.Final thank you to Arielle Nissenblatt of the EarBuds pod collective for starting this incredible movement.
