Humans are living longer than ever. Our average lifespan has increased from 47 in the 1950s to 80 for women today. That's a significant difference and predates the incorporation of many of the medical and technological advancements we are experiencing today. While we are indeed living longer, what isn't changing at the same pace is society's perception of aging. The Red Hat Society, led by Debra Granich, is on a mission to redefine what it means to be over 50, 60, 70, 80, and beyond. Granich is altering how women over 50 perceive themselves and collaborating with Hollywood, major brands, and beyond to recognize the substantial potential that wise women offer.

Dan Michaels mother Dorothy Olson passed away a tribute, legacy, a song and a laugh too! Here's the full obituary Dorothy Olson, age 91, was reunited with Vince, the love of her life, on April 24, 2022. She touched many lives during her 91 years and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, April 30th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church. A formal time of sharing memories and stories about Dorothy will begin at 4:00 followed by the funeral service beginning at 5:00 PM. Interment will be held on Monday, May 2nd at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan at 3:00 PM. An online guestbook and the time of sharing and the funeral service for Dorothy will be livestreamed at www.lerudmathias.com. Dorothy was born to Art and Alice Ratzlaff on September 20, 1930 in Valley City where she grew up and graduated from VCHS in 1948. During her junior year, she met Vincent Olson. She was charmed by his effervescent personality, but was not particularly impressed that he did not seem to share her seriousness for studying. They began dating in 1947 and, as she would say, “the rest is history!” After graduating, Dorothy went on to Mercy School of Nursing in Valley City. Vince & Dorothy were married on same afternoon she graduated with her RN degree and Vince shipped out for Korea a short time later. With some urging from the Valley City community, the Olson Funeral Home was established and celebrated its grand opening in September of 1957. They then waited….and waited…and waited for business. Dorothy was the boots on the ground for getting organized and office affairs. To accommodate time with their growing family, they later merged with another funeral home in Valley City and started the Peterson-Olson Funeral Home (1965-1983). After “retirement,” Vince ran for the legislature, which presented Dorothy with yet another new adventure in Bismarck. Dorothy worked as a nurse in a variety of capacities. While Vince was in Korea, she was the night supervisor at Mercy Hospital, later working at MacDonald Clinic. At the same time, they owned and operated the ambulance service where Dorothy was the “onboard nurse.” In 1979, she quit working at the funeral home and began a new career with Proctor & Gamble, marketing adult diapers. The traveling was overwhelming and she left the job after two years. She then went to work for Professional Rehabilitation Management. Some travel was required, but now with Vince retired, he began “Driving Miss Dorothy” all over the region. Dorothy loved her friends and relationships. She played with the same bridge club for fifty years. She enjoyed her Bible study and was involved in many church activities. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and traveled around the region to attend functions. She was active with water aerobics, becoming the leader during the months she spent in Arizona. She always welcomed visitors in both Arizona and North Dakota, Let us raise our glasses with a Crown Royal toast to Dorothy for a job well done! At her 80th birthday celebration Dorothy said, “I have had a good life. God has provided me with a wonderful husband…. five children who have made my life worthwhile and, the loves of my life, seven grandchildren: Sarah, Becky, Mike, Charlie, Dustin, Hannah and Haley. I have been blessed indeed!” (Dorothy in her own words.) Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children: Bob Schlotman (son-in-law), Cooperstown; Linda Olson, Cooperstown; David Olson, Valley City; Dan (Patty) Olson, Fargo; Grandchildren: Michael (Jenny) Schlotman-(Bob); Sarah (Rodd) Zorn & Becky (Perry) Kuss-(Connie); Charlie Olson-(Linda); Dustin Olson, Hannah (Cory) Hoffstatter & Haley Olson-(David); and Great-Grandchildren: Berkley Kuss-(Becky); Grace, Madelyn & Gus Zorn-(Sarah). Hattie & baby to be born Hoffstatter (Hannah) Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vince; an infant son, Michael; daughters, Beth and Connie; and her parents and grandparents. Big things can come from humble beginnings. That was the case for Jenny Joseph’s poem “Warning,” which began life as a throwaway, according to the poet; and yet ended up its own industry, being the basis for a Broadway musical, a society with over 10,000 chapters worldwide, and enduring status as one of the best-loved poems of the 20th century.

Aired Sunday, 28 August 2016, 10:00 PM ETKen and Darlene created AmazingKarma.com around the non-religious concept, “What goes around, comes around.” They share what prompted them to come up with this unique website, social media and mobile app.Sometimes it seems like the world is caught in an endless cycle of acrimony and retribution. From wars and terrorist attacks to petty slights and insults that explode into full-blown disputes and destroy relationships, bad behavior seems to reign. Yet you don’t have to look far to find people who practice kindness and intentionally work to sow peace, friendship and goodwill. That’s the intention of Darlene and Ken Tipton, aka “Karma Dar” and “Karma Ken.” The California couple created AmazingKarma.com around the simple non-religious concept of “What goes around, comes around.” Marketing surveys show that over 180 million Americans believe in this Karma concept. 67% of women, 46% of men, and 73% of the LGBT community are true believers.AmazingKarma.com acknowledges acts of kindness, courtesy, and honesty, through the giving of Green Karma Cards. It exposes acts of unkindness, discourtesy, and dishonesty, through the giving of Red Karma Cards. Even though the two types of Karma Cards are given for different reasons, BOTH types of Karma Cards are treated the same way when they are registered in your free account. When a Karma Card is registered, it generates a positive Karma Point for that person and ALSO for EVERY person who registered the same Karma Card in the past. When someone receives and registers a Red Karma Card, it is assumed the person has “owned their actions” and taken personal responsibility for their bad behavior. If they haven’t, then Karma WILL pay them a visit.Author Bio:Darlene Lieblich Tipton is just your typical senior citizen: she knits, bakes, is an active member of the Red Hat Society, flies ultralight aircraft, owns a pooper-scooper company in St. Louis, Missouri, is a five-time Jeopardy Champion, a breast cancer victor, a former frog jockey, a member of Mensa, owns an award-winning movie production company, sang on British radio for five years…Ken Tipton (Karma Ken): Karma Ambassador Ken Tipton, aka. “Karma Ken,” is co-creator with his wife Darlene Tipton of AmazingKarma.com, a website and mobile app designed to help people reward acts of kindness, courtesy, and honesty, and expose acts of unkindness, discourtesy, and dishonesty. A serial entrepreneur, Ken is a writer/actor/producer/director and subject of the award-winning film “HEART of the BEHOLDER,” which was based on his family’s true story. Red Hat Day - A society initially intended for women over the age of 50, but now includes women of all ages, it started because Sue Ellen Cooper gave a friend a red bowler hat and a poem by Jenny Joseph which starts off with the lines “When I am an old women I shall wear purple With a red hat that does not go and doesn’t suit me” Today it is a group that gets together and enjoys activities that can be of almost any kind. With over 40,000 chapters around the world there the options are almost endless, but all have the intention of comradery for the women. One of the more popular events is that of tea parties. April 25th is the birthday of the Red Hat Society. Faroe Flag Day - This is the day that back in 1940 when the British occupied the Faroe Islands that the current flag was formally adopted. A small self governing country in the Danish realm. Located about halfway between Norway and Iceland and having a population of around 50,000 people the name translates to something along the lines of “Islands of Sheep”.
This week we're joined by Laura! We get pretty blue talking about Pokemon, slap bracelets, and the Red Hat Society.
Michael Senoff's Talk Yourself Rich Audio Marketing Secrets Podcast
If you haven’t heard of the Red Hat Society yet, you most certainly will and not just from this recording! The Red Hat Society is an organization of women who believe that there is fun after the 50 and that silliness is the comedy relief of life. There are currently over 800,000 members, and that number is growing rapidly. That being said, I know that you will enjoy this consultation that I did with Pam. You will hear Pam give details of the Red Hat Society and describe her small business of selling Red Hat Society apparel online and through Ebay. Although her business is successful, Pam felt that she wanted to develop some kind of information product for the fifty and over age group of women. She had listened to several of the consultations on my web site, www.hardtofindseminars.com and was hoping that I could help her with some specific ideas for products. Listen as I quickly come up with an idea about creating an information product targeted specifically to Red Hat Society members: Pam could create audio interviews with dynamic Red Hat Society members about their philosophies and how they have fun in the Red Hat Society. Listen to my advice about how to market these audios to different local chapters of the organization and, possibly, to the organization’s national chapter. This is an exclusive interview from Michael Senoff at www.hardtofindseminars.com.
