. . . Today's episode is my musings on the current season of full Spring and the corresponding celebration of Beltane that honours this mid way point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice... I ponder on why we celebrated joy, creation, new life and abundance when I was child during late October early November and wonder why we now put our focus on Halloween (which if we celebrated in late Autumn as the Northern Hemisphere do) then this would be in late April... How much is it a consumeristic and marketing influence? How many people actually know why we celebrate...well just about anything these days....!! I would love to hear your thoughts and perspectives on this topic. Listen in, enjoy and let me know what you think :) maria@parentingwithsoul.com Arohanui Maria ✨

In today's episode I 'muse' about Samhain pronounced 'sow en). Which is now known by many as Halloween. What is it? When do we celebrate it and why? How do we make this make sense in the Southern Hemisphere. We discuss this in more depth in my 8 week programme I am offering in May. Weekly catch ups online for 8 weeks. Covering festivals, celebrations, seasons, rhythms, traditions, rituals and ceremony. How do we weave this in to our family that resonates with who we are and our family values. Ryan is joined by Zipp and Bob of the No Redeeming Qualities Podcast Halloween's origins likely predate Christianity, harking back to the Celtic pagan festival known as "Samhain." During Samhain, the boundaries between the living and the deceased were believed to be indistinct. While historical records are scarce, our knowledge of Samhain comes from legends and indirect sources, revealing a picture of eerie and mysterious rituals quite distinct from the contemporary Halloween festivities we enjoy today. Did you know that the dead had nothing to do with Samhain? Originally the Gaelic festival focused on the supernatural as around this time the membrane between the worlds thinned, the need for protection was heightened, fires were lit to ward away the darkness, spirits and other unspeakable creatures. Creatures that within Gaelic texts and mythology invaded our world, heroic and royal figures met their untimely demise by their hands and ancient capitals were laid siege to. This link to death and ancestors didn't come into play till about 700CE when the pope moved the the holiday All Saints Day to November 1st, whereby the churchs many saints were honoured and prayed to. Divination was themed around death and marriage, did you also know that Halloween was massive rival for Valentines day in the victoria era? All my links are here. This week on the podcast, we are looking at how history has set your brain up to fail when it comes to you having a well healthy, energised, balanced, awesome body relationship with food and wellbeing. I really think that your awareness of this, awareness of history and your mindset and the psychology and some of the things that you may be consciously aware of in the day to day will really help you to have a more compassion towards your body and your health, which will then help you to make more progress and see results with more speed and ease. So, often people that I work with beat themselves up and take their current situation, their current symptoms, health diagnosis, the current area of struggle that they find themselves in, and they just blame it on a personal failing, their lack of discipline, their lack of self-control, their sugar addiction, etc. It can be really helpful sometimes to become aware of the context of your body and life and health choices because you will see the most and biggest and most easy to sustain results when it comes to your health, when it comes from a place of compassion. If you try to bully and criticize and push your way into balanced hormones and a better body composition and improved gut health and no more IBS and a better improved mood and all these things. What's up to my fetching free-tailed bats and bloodthirsty bobtails! Welcome back to the BNP and thank you for joining! It's a special Samhain/Halloween weekend Rager Raven edition of the pod. I had a wild and crazy couple days and have thus had limited time and *slightly* altered bandwidth with which to make the pod, however I did manage to compose a couple extra zany audio tidbits! Topics this week include a post-rave soliloquy recounting some of the realizations, epiphanies and spooky boundless mysteries which were conjured up while sitting around a fire all night with some fellow lovely like-minded humans. New evidence from S. Africa suggests that archaic human beings from the time of Homo erectus and Neanderthals have been sitting around fires together for at least 1 Million years. That is 500 circuits of 2000 years. Difficult to fathom that span of moons, but there's a reason your body's cells get activated by building and watching fire, especially alongside other hominids. Also included in this episode is a recent Yak Fest with fan favorite the inimitable Dr. Sylvie Salinger, where she shows me the tail end of a truly barfy clip of Stephen Colbert suckling Tony Fauci's wrinkled and befouled teats, and I react with visceral disgust and dismay. Sylvie then shows me a recent clip of Glenn Greenwald committing the mortal sin of going on Tucker to talk to half the country about American imperialism and the threat of nuclear war, and finally we have a nice tidy rant and rave about mass formation in the time of Covid and the sad state of the establishment narrative. I cannot think of a better way to end Season 1 of the podcast than this amazing conversation with my mentor, the incredible Lisa Lister. Lisa has been such a fundamental influence in my life over the last decade. She talks to us about the deep felt knowing that she experiences by coming home to her body. We discuss the power and wisdom within the menstrual cycle. We touch upon how the social conditioning of the overculture keeps us down and stops us striving to have what we actually want and need and forces us to fit in and be as 'normal' as possible, even if it's to our detriment. We also discuss how rest is revolutionary and moving at the speed of our body and heart is the medicine we all need right now. Lisa talks about her upcoming book, Self Source-rey and how everything we need is within us. Of course, as this is being released on Samhain/Halloween, how could we not talk about what it means to be a witch?! I am so proud to be able to close season 1 with this conversation.About Lisa:Crowned ‘the defender of female awesomeness' by Cooler magazine, Lisa Lister offers support, space, remembrance, spiritual guidance, cyclic maps and counsel to women who are exploring, navigating and wanting to heal their relationship with their body, power, sex, creativity, pleasure + passion in these 'interesting' timesWebsite: https://www.lisalister.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sassylisalister/About Meghan:Meghan Field is an intersectional social justice activist, Qoya Teacher, Intuitive Embodiment and Practical Magic Coach, Moon Mna/Irish Celtic lineage practitioner and Owner of Sacred Kernow Retreats. This is the Uncensored Cinefiles film review and esoteric analysis of the film The Witch directed by Robert Eggers. The Witch film has been praised as a feminist movie, and it has been endorsed by the Satanic Temple. This movie was extremely scary, and extremely graphic but accurate representation of early colonial life in America. This is our film analysis and review of this movie witch includes spoilers. So go and watch the movie "The Witch" then come back here to see our breakdown. Happy Halloween / Samhain! Origins of Samhain / Halloween discussed in this podcast breakdown as well. Many signs are often misunderstood in the astrological community, but there's something about Scorpio that represents that feeling, those times when you feel like the black sheep, like no one understands you, like you're different, maybe broken? And yet you know this isn't the case. Deep down in the depths you know you're where you're supposed to be. So what do we gain from this state of being? What strengths does Scorpio bring us?In this episode I mention parenting coach, Destini Ann - solid advice for parents and nonparents alike! Hello, beautiful alchemist! Today we are welcoming Amanda Sophia back to the podcast, after three years! Amanda is a Feng Shui Master, Celtic Priestess and facilitator of Divine Woman Awakening. The last time she was here, she shared the importance of creating sacred spaces, understanding how your environment influences wellbeing and various areas of your life. Today, Amanda is educating us about the season of the womb. Many consider this “spooky season”, which she will explain, but Amanda highlights the gifts of Samhain (Halloween) and the passage of the upcoming winter solstice. You'll learn about the gifts of healing that are reflected through the wisdom of earth, as well as an interesting technique for ancestral healing. Amanda also speaks about how current cycles are necessary for your process of rebirthing. And because it's not every day that I chat with a Celtic Priestess, living in Ireland, I also asked Amanda about Faeries! Learn more about Amanda and her work at http://joinamandasophia.com Happy Scorpio season, and don't forget to get your limited-edition, The Energetic Alchemist Oracle deck, at http://theenergeticalchemist.com

This week we're talking generally about horror as a genre for tabletop, and in particular how to make it work for Changeling. As a game, it has a reputation for being too light and fluffy for the World of Darkness; we beg to differ. Given that its purview is literally anything imaginable, all manner of horror can be worked into its fabric, even if it's not necessarily "meant" to be all about that. We take the opportunity in this episode to share opinions and ideas on that subject. It's kind of a wide-ranging discussion that we half-improvised, touching on (among other things) the importance of safety tools; differences between film and RPGs when creating a horror atmosphere; body horror vs. Gothic horror vs. psychological and cosmic horror; Bedlam, Banality, and nightmare; some media inspirations; and more! Hopefully it will help you generate some ideas for your chronicle if you're thinking of going in an eerier, more uncanny direction... But only one more week until Samhain/Halloween... ... your hosts Josh Hillerup (any pronoun) is unsettled by the over-abundance of geese in the neighborhood. Pooka G (any pronoun/they) feels discomfited by the rather limited coffee selection in your kitchen. Vi is back and Eric should be held accountable for his actions... Where is the limit for free speech, civil suits, and how long should we wait to celebrate the downfall of shitty people? From conspiracies and conspiracy mongers to the existence of God and the supernatural, we want to know if you believe any of it is true and why! Or worse, is he being illogical? Some of you have said so, but how does he defend himself against these accusations? 12:52Repeat Muslim caller Sajid wants to draw attention to the violent patriarchal systems being done in the name of Islam. The hosts discuss the Iranian hijab protests and how they got started, and commend Sajid for calling out members of his own religion for doing harm. If Hell existed, he'd be happy to send Alex Jones there. Eric is uncomfortable with this position. Vi nails a point that leaves Eric reeling for the next several calls. 37:22Is free will necessary for autonomy to be valuable? Vi defends their position that a deterministic universe would not negate the value of autonomy as a moral good. They also come up with the term “spicy determinism” that you can be sure will make future appearances in this broadcast. 56:09This theist caller still believes in God and Jesus, but is debating whether or not to keep calling himself a Christian. The term, he says, has been hijacked by political extremists and he doesn't want to be associated with them. Vi and Eric disagree on what next steps for this caller would look like. 1:08:02Eric lays down some hard truths when it comes to the question about whether it's better to be happy or to be right. The answer? Healthy boundaries! Meanwhile Vi comes for Boomer comedy.
